phantagrae Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Yes, obviously I am not the 'posting police' and I cannot tell people how to write their posts, but I was just pointing out that some may consider the way she writes certain words in her posts in all capitals to be rude and unnecessary. She is quite entitled to continue to do so if she wishes to, but I was simply informing her in case she did not already know about the other ways of emphasising her point rather than in all capitals, because it is considered by many to be the literary form of shouting and impolite to some as it comes across as if she is constantly in a rage about the topic and is just sounding off. Yes, but maybe she chooses to make the emphasis the way she does, or maybe her options are limited depending on her device, where it may be simpler to use caps than to use bold or italic. As long as her whole post isn't in caps, I don't see it as rude.
Tensor Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 For instance, if you don't have flash on your mobile device, you can't use our WYSIWYG editor. phantagrae Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 A few BTS moments from the taping--and maybe Trina can remember others or saw something I didn't see? Each of the guys had a little flub here or there, especially in the opening cafeteria scene, where the dialog was tricky in talking about the sciency stuff. Simon had some difficult stuff to rattle off quickly (as Howard was supposed to be excited), and Kunal, I believe, had a similar kind of flub. Johnny misspoke something, but they also had him redo the "Mommy raised a gentleman" line with a different tone. I think the first couple of times they did it, he was kind of quiet and a little sheepish, but the last time they did it, he was bolder and a little smug about it. It was cute. In the scene in Raj's apartment, I think Kunal flubbed once or twice, but they were minor stumbles. Then they re-did it a bit. At one point, Raj sits down to ask Leonard about what comes lower than Omegas, but I think the first time (or maybe it was the other way around) he says it while standing at his white board. In the first scene between Sheldon and Penny, I think Jim messed up at the door once, and they also had him change his expression and/or delivery as he answered. I think the second time Sheldon was a little more smug about the knocking thing, and the timing in the dialog was a little faster. Kaley must have been cold because she had people standing around her, putting a jacket or blanket or something over her shoulders while they waited to start, while she also had hair and makeup fussing over her. When they were waiting to set up the next scene between them, Jim was pacing around the living room, muttering his lines to himself (and practicing his facial expressions and gestures, as well), and chewing gum. At one point, he stopped suddenly and kind of did this open-mouthed silent gasp and clamped his hand over his mouth. I don't remember if he said something right away, but I think he called someone over as he was wiping at his mouth, and then they started dabbing at his lip with a napkin or kleenex or something. I think he bit his tongue or lip or something. He kind of fussed over it for a moment. I guess Kaley might not have been in the apartment set at first because she didn't know it happened until Jim was telling her later, it seems. They did the first take on the discussion at the counter and then while they were resetting to do it again (and Kaley had her blanket and her hair fussers and was even holding those hand-warming little packs in her hands) Jim was obviously telling her what had happened. She was surprised and asked him when it had happened and he was gesturing over to where he'd been standing, etc. Somehow it was kind of cute. Anyway, at one point when they were redoing the scene, Jim got stuck and then said, "It's not the words, it's the rhythm" and they started over. They hadn't gotten very far when Cendrowski stopped them and came over to talk about the iPad Sheldon is using to show Penny the picture of the train. While Jim was talking (and I noticed this the first take) he was holding the iPad up, but as he gestured it was moving around and catching glare from the stage lights overhead, so in the last take he was holding it very still. I think there might have been a little flubbing in the second cafeteria scene, but nothing major, that I recall. It does seem that there was something funny that someone said, in re-doing it, but I can't remember now. In the "building on that" scene, Jim had his notecards with him and he stuck them under the seat cushion before they started the scene. Then while they were waiting to go again, he was leaning back on the couch (because he was kind of perched at the edge so he could jump up at the end of the scene) and he was holding his knee and swinging his foot. At one point I think he kicked his foot up at Simon, kind of goofing around. In the second scene in the living room I can't remember if it was before the first take, or while the scene was getting some rewrites, but Kunal was kind of wandering around the apartment set and off on one side or the other, then as he passed the coffee table that had snacks set out for the scene, he was snagging chips from a bowl and munching as he wandered. A few minutes later, one of the crew guys came in with some food on a paper plate and handed it to Kunal, who went offstage for a little while. He came back later, still chewing, looking for a place to throw away his plate and napkin. Dude was hungry! During that long wait, Jim was talking to Anthony Rich, I believe it was, for almost the whole time. I think at one point Johnny was jumping up and down, to pump up his energy, I think. When the writers came out with new pages, the all huddled around and talked about it and I guess each of the guys got their own copies of their new lines and when they were done looking at them, handed them back to Anthony Rich. I remember Johnny kept accidentally saying "big fat slug butt" in the Jabba rewrite, but had to remind himself there was no "big" in the line. I think he also had some confusion about something in the line because he was discussing it breifly with Anthony Rich. While they were waiting to redo this scene Jim was yawning up a storm, sitting on the couch. It was getting late. There was nothing spectacular, but it was interesting to see how they adapted to the new lines, how much waiting around they do for rewrites, and how they occupy themselves. Oh, and I think someone might have mentioned it, but one girl in the audience asked Mark Sweet if she could with Jim a happy birthday, before they started and Jim smiled and waved at her. Oh, and when Sweet was introducing the cast, Jim came out and did this big jump, where he kind of pointed one hand and foot out toward the audience and kind of folded his other foot up under him--there's an old S1 (I think) publicity shoot of him doing that same jump)--but when he landed I think he landed harder or at a slightly unexpected angle because he was kind of chuckling with Kaley and shaking out his foot where he'd landed. Stewie99 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 For instance, if you don't have flash on your mobile device, you can't use our WYSIWYG editor. As a result, unless you go in and add the bold or italics tags(and not everyone knows how to do that) the only other option is to use caps. I understand that sometimes it is not possible to use bold or italics, but there are still other ways of putting your point across without the need to write certain words in all capitals, which often makes posts seem like arrogant tirades. The fact that no other member of the forum feels the need to use this method of emphasis, either because they find it rude as I do or can put their point across without the need for excessive, impolite and completely unnecessary emphasis on certain words, is reason enough to make my point that this sort of posting is not attractive. Trinabeana78 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Kaley and Johnny came out and talked to the audience 2 scenes before the end. Kaley mentioned they appreciated us hanging in there because it had been a long night (the taping went until almost 10:30 because they basically had to rewrite almost 2 whole scenes. The last scene with the guys in the apartment took at least 45 or 50 minutes to finish). Also something funny in one of the cafeteria scenes, I believe the cold open, there was a little wait while they were rewriting some jokes. The crew was moving one of the cameras around and there was a loud crash. Jim can be heard over his mic joking, "crashing cameras into props, see this is why we have separate unions." The audience cracked up and you could hear the other guys snickering through their mics, lol.

Why the heck do you even care about the tone of her posts? WHAT IF I DECIDE TO USE CAPS!!! People use them all the time, it just depends on the conversation and the thread. Emphasizing words like this has never struck me as impolite or excessive--but sometimes the impact is what you're going for. But again, it's not your place to say what is or is not attractive or how one should emphasize their stronger points. Let it go already. It's not a rule. Tensor Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 There are many ways of getting one's point across without the need for all capitals. All caps is considered yelling and could be considered rude. Specific words being capitalized is a perfectly acceptable way to emphasize a point.

Actually, I am quite entitled to say what I believe is or is not attractive in a post and how one should emphasize their stronger points, and this was all I did. It was a polite request to the user, asking them to stop writing their posts with words frequently in all capitals, as some perceive it to be rude and aggressive. As I have already said, their are quite within their rights to ignore my advice entirely. What you have done is treated it as some kind of personal attack on the user, which it was not- simply a polite request. To quote what you said to me in an earlier post 'you are not the posting police' so why do you feel the need to tell me whether I can say what I think is or isn't attractive in a post? Isn't that a touch hypocritical? I am quite aware of the forums' rules on posting and I am also aware that posting in all capitals in not prohibited here, and rightly so. People have the right to get their message across however they see fit, but it is simply my opinion that it comes across as rude and as shouting. Please just leave it there. You didn't care for what you thought her tone came across as. I don't care for your reproach for something completely harmless. Martin Pollard Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Doing all-caps like this reminds me of Daria's high school history teacher, Mr. DeMartino, who used to shout every fifth word or so (and bulging out his right eye as he did it). phantagrae Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 the woman next to my wife was complaining the entire time espicially at the end. she had come with her son who was a fan of the show but she was not. I can imagine it wouldn't be all that interesting to someone who isn't a fan because it can be a long evening. The warm up guy was kind of getting on my nerves after a while because he was having to keep coaxing the audience to be peppy, but that's his job. He was funny enough at times, but some of the stuff got a little tedious. But once they were taping, it was interesting and funny and exciting. So did this woman get dragged along (maybe her son was hoping she'd like it?) or why else would she go to something like that if she wasn't a fan? And even so, why open your trap in a case like that. They're not going to let you leave--they even warn you at the beginning. If it's not something you're going to want to sit all the way through, then go ahead and go home before it starts. Chrismo Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I don't think that Penny getting a part in a movie would delay their wedding plans in any real way, since they haven't yet picked a date or anything. A movie shoot would take forever, especially if it's for some indie film by Kevin Smith. If she decided to quit her job, she apparently has money invested or whatever, so I don't know that she'd suddenly be indigent or whatever. And I think Leonard would still want to marry her, even if she had no job whatsoever. If she were to suddenly lose her sales job, like if the company decided to lay off some of their workers, for instance, I don't think Leonard would suddenly walk away from her. Just like Penny, I think some people are worrying about something that hasn't yet happened.i think though you nailed the problem with Lenny fans and season 8. While A part in the movie wouldn't delay anything there's been no planning. many Lenny fans have mentioned no interest in getting season 8 DVD because how the season has gone for them. I see my fellow shippers point on that. if you were a Lenny fan, missed the first 21 episodes this season, and asked someone to catch you up on what happened with them IMO there's nothing to say. The prom episode could have happened any season as could the body paint. Moving in together was discussed but that too was discussed in season 6 and that storyline was really IMO just as much about Sheldon than it was about Lenny. Season 8 episode 22 could easily followed season 7's finale and a Lenny fan wouldn't of missed anything. I agree with you they is nothing to worry about at this point but there is really nothing to be excited about either.I can imagine it wouldn't be all that interesting to someone who isn't a fan because it can be a long evening. I mean, if you hate everything else about the show, then I guess there would be no point in getting the DVDs or whatever. But, as I've often said, I like it all. And I'm a completist, so I'd get the DVDs anyway.
