The other side to this from my point of view is to let the characters develop outside their significant relationship too.

Like let Penny have a career. She does not need to be defined almost entirely by her romantic relationships.

i totally agree with you in regards to

Penny's career. IMO that was way overdo. The thing is there has been no development in regards to Lenny this season. I'm not sure I want to go into specifics since it probably cause an argument but there have been in my opinion some unnecessary story lines that have been brought up this season.

hey, we get a taping next week and a new episode. That should be fun, huh?

I wonder if it will pick up any of the L/P directions we have been mooting or will there continue to be an L/P shaped hole. Or be so satisfying that we ALL just swoon. That'd be nice.

Alternative Thought.

Leonard Experimental Physics. Penny a famous actress. Will penny still love Leonard and marry him?

Of course. Is this even a question? They're one of my fav OTPs (One true pair)  :shy:

I have no interest in taking hours to go though all the transcripts and compile numbers on how many episodes involved Leonards and Penny's various relationships. I just don't see that as a productive use of my time and I don't think anyone but you are interested in the numbers anyway. So no I can't be bothered with that. I simply stated a lot of time in the first 7 seasons was devoted to Penny's and Leonard's relationships. I don't really care what the actual numbers are.

All I asked for was some balance. You're the one that came back suggesting that the lack of them this year had something to do with balancing out them showing Lenny "a lot" (again, nothing quantitative) in earlier years. I simply pointed out that the numbers show you were wrong about it balancing. Of course you don't care what the numbers are, because if you actually bother with the numbers, it would show that you're wrong with you statement about the balance in previous years.

Here is my 2 cents in the beginning of the show there were 5 cast members with Penny being the only women and Lenny being the only couple now you have 7 cast members and 4 couples to write for with Emily and Raj included and the writers know they have 2 more seasons after this something most shows don't have that so they may have slowed Lenny down  to devote more time to other stories knowing they have 2 seasons left I still love the show and going to enjoy the rest of this season and the next 2 seasons

It does seem that Leonard is being used more as a device to set up plots or play a foil to the other characters these days. Sheldon has certainly taken centre stage more than ever this season, which has pushed back Leonard almost to supporting cast now. With there being less and less scenes of the whole gang together, Leonard is no longer at the centre of the groups and many of the plots involving him in the show these days seem to happen almost around him rather than with him.

It is a shame that this character is no longer as important to the show as he used to be but I think this has been done for the right reasons- Sheldon, Penny, Amy and Howard are all far more interesting characters to develop and their various quirks make them funnier.

I won't strenuously argue on Sheldon and Penny since they're two of my three favorite characters on the show.  But Amy and Howard?  Howard has only seen a character resurgence because of the unfortunate tragedy.  His dynamic with Stuart got old by the prom episode, and just about every joke with Ms. Wallowitz that could be told was told.

Also as far as Amy goes.  Amy's character for this entire season has revolved around being Sheldon's love interest.  While some of that has been good (the prom episode) some of it has been dull (the Christmas episode)?  What about other things in her life that don't revolve around Sheldon?  Even in Leonard's smaller screen time, he came up with a new scientific theory.

I'm sorry some people are so unhappy with various aspects of the show this season.  You certainly have a right to feel and say as you wish, so please don't take what I'm about to say as a challenge to your rights.  My philosophy of watching this show is to relax and enjoy the ride.  Relationships and characters that right now are taking a back seat will always get their turn in the spotlight soon.  (I said this a couple of years ago to the Shamy fan base when many were frustrated at the lack of progress, and look what has happened recently.)  This show tends to focus on certain ones for a while, then there will be an arc that brings back the other ones.  I just try to enjoy what the writers are giving us, and trust that they'll deliver in time.

It's not so much about the show not giving me one thing this season.  It's about what they've been giving us in its place.  Comedy that has either been hit or miss, or comedy that has felt like it's been pulling it's punches this season.

I haven't felt that the comedy is hit or miss or that the writers have been pulling their punches at all. I do think that when people aren't getting whatever it is they think the writers should give them, then everything seems worse than it is.

But in reality, I think the jokes are just as funny, and the stories have been more varied, combining timely stories (and skewering them) with old-school type science based stories.

Anyway, I'm having fun with all the episodes this season.

I could agree with that if I weren't reading about the taping reports and how things have gotten changed around in the final product. For two examples:

-Raj's father in the christmas episode got the biggest laugh when he called up his ex-wife, to tell her Raj and Penny did it.  For some reason, that got edited out.

-Leonard/Penny's adventure with erotic body paint had a more emotional narrative where Penny tells him they should try and not be a boring couple again, and Leonard reaffirming that with the time being past 1 a.m.  What made it on screen barely had a plot to speak of.

There are other examples, but those two really stand out at the top of my head.

Where do you get the idea that Leonard and Penny had some kind of deeper emotional discussion about not being a boring couple? Do you remember something they were supposed to say specifically? I read the taping report and it didn't seem to me to imply anything more than what we saw--the two if them talking about how they stayed up late watching Netflix, and wondering if their boring sex painting meant they were boring, but reassuring each other that they could do better, etc..

I for one am glad they cut out the phone call from Raj's father to Raj's mother. If they never bring up that "crazy naked night" again, it'll still be too soon for me.

Totally agree! However I think we will need to suffer through one more mention when the whole Penny/Emily "I hate her" thing gets resolved (or blows up).

I wonder if they're really going to pursue that.

I think that if they do bring up any difficulty between them it will be resolved over some other issue, like the two of them bonding over something (wouldn't Emily be the type to love Serial Apeist 2?) or otherwise finding something that gives tehm respect for each other.  And I don't think they'll have to bring up that night in order to get past it.

Don't know if anyone has posted on it already. But actress Kathrine Von Till guest stars in tonights episode.

And apparently, they were working on set during the weekend. The people going on WB tour met the Assistant director on Saturday while being on Stage 25. And on Sunday it was closed for visitors. Don't know if it means some kind of special was in the making or something.

i think it will be brought up in passing--- briefly referred to. If E & P are to be friends or are to be aquatinted through their SO's it will need to be put behind them.

I so love the idea of the ice being thawed through "...Monkey See, Monkey Kill" (also love that subtitle!). Emily seeing it with another friend. "Hey, I know that killer gorilla!"
