If you think that kissing is the same as having sex... well, at least you are getting a lot of action. Also, the girl kissed him, he didn't initiate the kiss. And Penny was an adult who made a choice to star in that movie, it was on the Internet and anyone could have seen it. Also, Penny herself got Sheldon drunk a few times, and laughed along when his humiliating drunk video was posted online-and he wasn't even aware that the video was being made, unlike Penny starting topeless in that movie. It wasn't a private video, it was a scene from a movie that was readily available for wide public viewing and for all we know it was her only scene in the movie so the only way Leonard could have shown that his girlfriend acted in a movie was to show that scene. so if he was drunk enough like penny was when she spent the night with raj.....and had sex with her...... there is no difference...kissing or having sex is cheating.....as simple as that................ I think it was a way to bring up the question of commitment--when they're talking with Sheldon, they're going on and on about how they don't need to set a date, that they're in a good place, and then go on the do a quickie discussion of what kind of ceremony they want (complete with flying worms), but they still avoid setting a date, or even a ballpark for the date. So Penny gets this wild hair of dashing off to Vegas, which is still avoiding the process of planning that most couples go through. Dashing off to Vegas is almost just another way to not really think about any of it, to not consider where they're going to have it, who they're going to invite, family issues, etc.. It seems romantic on the surface, but because they haven't gotten down to the nitty gritty of discussing the wedding, they're treating it like a date to the movies. So, when Leonard's confession comes up, they're not in the middle of a sober planning session, but in the middle of a whim, which makes such difficult news even more difficult. But it's also a plausible situation, therefore not, IMO, clumsy drama. I think that there have been many fans who have questioned why L/P haven't talked about the wedding or haven't just gone out and done it. Well, they decided to just do it, but now they have to decide if this news is a deal-breaker or is going to postpone the wedding even further or what. They have to, if you'll pardon it being very "on the nose", determine if they are ready to commit--not just to engagement, but to marriage. They feel ready to commit to engagement, but they've gotten rather comfortable with the status quo. Yup, I can totally see that. so if he was drunk enough like penny was when she spent the night with raj.....and had sex with her...... there is no difference...kissing or having sex is cheating.....as simple as that................ would'nt that make even worse..... She was Sheldon's assistant (Sheldon is a theoretical physicist while Leonard is an experimental one), only a grad student at the time (although very smart) and was an astrophysicist. You must be as pure as the driven snow to be so unforgiving. As others have said, it's not an excuse for bad choices, but an understandable circumstance that led to the situation. Leonard didn't go out there looking for an affair or to meet a new woman. When he kissed Alice, he made a deliberate, sober choice. I think it was indicative of the fact that he didn't love Priya as much as he pretended or wanted to. He told Penny that he and Priya were in love and might get married, but he still wanted to figure out a way to have sex with Alice and not be a bad guy. But he went to her apartment apparently ready to have sex with her, but stopped himself from going that far--and when she kicked him out, there was part of him that regretted being the "good guy". But that was a completely different situation than this. There was a lot of drinking and partying, meaning that probably no one was in their right mind all the time--saying and doing stupid things. He's feeling good about himself because of the work going well, some girl comes on to him and he gives in under the influence of not his sober mind but his drunk mind. That's not an excuse, just the circumstance. Even so, many people have forgiven worse--even sex with another person. The level of forgiveness depends on the depth of the love that is present. Ahh....this is pretty clever ..........but talk about writers and characters is completely different as you know...... it does'nt matter when the writers got the idea that leonard kissed a girl on the boat ( 2 years back or 2 weeks back ) .....what matters is real (or fictional ) kissing happened 2 years back.......... and I think it is easy to blame the writers easily for everything while actors generally get all the prize....... but its pretty easy for actors.......if they have talent(like this cast).....it's pretty easy for them act out different situations...its always acting.... but for writers.....churning out real good creative ideas for 8 seasons is a pretty difficult job............... With the two last statements especially the last one, one could say that he's just being a guy not all guys are the same.........and not all guys repeat the mistake which they once felt *guilty* of............. Um yeah there is, In The Good Guy Flucuation, Leonard screwed up a LITTLE by kissing and being tempted by Alice (but owned up to it), Priya screwed up ALOT by sleeping with an ex-boyfriend (and she couldn't be bothered to see the difference in the degree of wrong she was in). Also how much of a clear picture do you ACTUALLY have of what happened on the boat? You haven't been given much of a clear picture of what happened, but yet you seem DEAD SET on throwing the book at Leonard EVEN THOUGH you DON'T KNOW all the specific details of what happened during that time or how everything went down.
