djsurrey Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 But I would really expect that a few years after the marriage, not before. They quasi live together since they walk into each others suites on the same floor, sleep over whenever and they have been in this pattern for years. Apart from interference from Sheldon it is as though they slipped into marriage unaware it was happening about the time he returned from the north sea. Their engagement was/is like a virtual non event.

djsurrey Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 (edited) They don't quasi live together Sheldon made sure of that. Only one night a week Judging by season 8 that was one night a week and most evening meals was all that was needed to kill the mystery and put the honeymoon period in the rear view mirror Edited May 21, 2015 by djsurrey

Mislav Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 They're talking about Lenny I was talking about Shamy when I said that they are on a break and not broken up. But I guess the discussion took the other turn.

Carlos Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Some people are not reading the posts correctly, while others don't know what they're talking about, while others are being their usual sarcastic selves, while others can think of nothing else but their obsessions, while there are others I agree with, Old Navy: Whether DJ Surrey agrees with us or not, I too think that the quality of the writing has decreased dramatically since the end of season 6. I don't agree with you that it should have ended at the end of S7, but the end of S8 would have been perfect IMO, as they would have had 2 years to wrap up all the important storylines, and they wouldn't have to use so much filler. DJSurrey: If you don't think the quality of the writing has decreased dramatically, I really don't know what show you're watching. And of course this is not how relationships work, but this is a fictitious relationship and as such it can perfectly work in the way described by others. Martin Pollard: Moving a relationship forward is making the characters evolve and BUILD on what they have shared in the past, so when a person mentions going back to S1-S3 Lenny, that's not bringing the relationship back, but bringing it back to a time when it was written better. I would have used S6 as a season to bring it back to because that's when Lenny had the most growth, but I didn't post the original comment. Stephen Hawking: S1-S3 is not about Shamy, of course, because everything is not about Shamy. They were talking about Lenny, OK? From my perspective the story lines may be interesting but they are not important. It is a sitcom. Just for entertainment. There is no high purpose here. My guess is that most what I enjoy in TBBT is stuff you consider filler. Overall I don't see a significant change in the quality of the writing but I'm no English major either. I still find the show entertaining most of the time.
Carlos Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 For me what interested my about TBBT were the special characters that were Sheldon, Raj, Howard and Leonard, as wells as Penny, and the "clash" between both their worlds, and the relationships between them. Btw, by filler I mean contrived story arcs and stories in general that don't feel (at least IMO) organic to the characters' development. I used to find TBBT funnier and more intelligent than I do now.

Stephen Hawking: S1-S3 is not about Shamy, of course, because everything is not about Shamy. They were talking about Lenny, OK? Who said that it was all about Shamy? The confusion was made since my original post was about Shamy (except for the comment about agreeing with meka3000's predictions, that regard Lenny too), while SRAM replied with a comment about Lenny (which isn't something bad, it can happen to anyone, but since it was a reply to a post about Shamy and none of the characters were referred to by name, the confusion is understandable). The rest of the discussion was about Lenny, and nobody says that it isn't allowed to talk about Lenny, but Stephen was referring to a comment about SRAM's reply-a reply about Lenny to a post that was about Shamy and in neither of the posts were characters referred to by their names (again, not a bad mistake, but it can be confusing). Of course that first three season are not about Shamy, but do you really think that some of the comments couldn't have come off as confusing (unintentionally)? And that people don't have right to be mistaken without it being some sort of an insult or something inappropriate shipping-related? Why such anger? God. Martin Pollard Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Why such anger? God. Why do you think my ignore list is now bulging to the exploding point? I come here to enjoy myself, but this season has made otherwise sane, rational people act like rabid jackasses on hypersteroids. Since I'm not obligated to put up with such nonsense, into the list they go (and they're more than welcome to do the same to me, if they haven't already), and they're not coming out until they calm down and grow thicker skins. I value my peace of mind too much.
djsurrey Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 (edited) Leonard may be able to collect social security before they get married at this rate Or they may never get married. TBBT does not put marriage on a pedestal at all. Just look at the parents in TBBT as examples. [edit]...and Raj's vision of the future in 7.18. (drifting apart...) Martin Pollard Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Handy tip that I had resisted for a long time. Mine is hardy exploding though. On the other hand I mostly avoid shipping threads. Well, I may be exaggerating slightly. But it's definitely gotten longer during the course of S8, particularly after the finale. (I take no pleasure in it, believe me, since I'd rather have a productive conversation with everybody, but in my opinion, that's not possible right now. Ignore lists are blunt instruments, to be sure, but useful ones when situations become intolerable.)

bigbangsheldon Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Oh Martin, how could any of us ever be as rational and calm as you. We should all aspire to be just like you. Poor guy, he only wants to listen to the people who agree with him and not the crazy passionate people. Imagine that: the horror! An incomplete view at best, wouldn't you say? Stewie99 Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 (edited) 12,704 posts and counting on this thread about Season 8... That's going to be hard to top next season. Season 8 has been momentous in many different ways. It has been a season of change for the show, and perhaps the biggest season in terms of drama that TBBT has undergone thus far. The writers will have their work cut out if they want to make the show even more dramatic (yet still funny) next season. Looking forward to checking out the Season 9 forum!
