sorry Rachel, but Penny has no say in the outcome for Amy. Its not like there is a quota of affection on the in the world and Penny has got more than her share. It's between Sheldon, a grown man and Amy, a grown woman. No one else can do anything.

unless i misunderstand your last sentence about "can't have it all"

She finished with Leonard because she couldn't return his love, yet gets upset when he gets a new girlfriend, is he supposed to wait until penny can return his love?

That's what I meant about can't have it all

Taping Report    “The Prom Equivalency”   Hi!!   This is my first taping report EVER so please be considerate and I will try my best. This was also my first taping, now that I live in LA, I was

I want you guys to know how hard these ladies are working on this report! "All right, who's got scene 13?" "Oh, that's me!"

Okay, so I'm not sure if anyone has reported this yet, but there's dialogue from the prom episode that I'm not sure was in the taping report. In the scene where Amy tells Sheldon she is going up to

Selective bias coming through there. Penny already had the phone out of her pocket ready to call Amy before Leonard opened his mouth.

And obviously she had it all pre organised and prescripted with the psychic so she could just rehash the words. Seriously, Penny's been pushing the Shamy relationship for years.

Anyway, this is a recycled argument that has been going on since the taping report of the finale and no one is ever going to change their minds on it so let's move on. We really need Season 8 to come as soon as it can because most of these S8 threads start up with a few interesting suggestions but then end up being battle grounds for opposition forces who are pushing their personal dislikes for certain characters or couples . On current trends Season 8 sounds like no one's going to be talking to anyone on the show. Penny's going to kill Sheldon, Lenny are going to destroy Amy's life by luring her into 4B then kicking her out on the street when they take the apartment back to escape Sheldon, Leonard is a terrible person who is forcing Sheldon to move out, Amy and Sheldon are breaking up, Amy and Penny aren't going to be speaking to each other anymore, forcing Bernadette to choose sides, which ultimately will cause tension with Howard because he won't be able to visit his friends and Raj and Emily won't last. It's going to be such a happy show next season image.jpg

Can we get off Season 7 issues and get back to a S8 discussion thread. ( I know I'm relatively new here and wasn't around during the time between seasons 6 and 7. Was it this combative then?)

this fairly mild repartee :). Imho

Yeah, love sucked for Leonard for a while. Seems to be sucking for Amy too. But Penny looked like she pined. Will Sheldon pine or do they just go on and on in S8? We will have to wait and see. More cats for Amy this time, or are they back to taws? IDK. :)

I get it that Penny has many things to think of and deal with but what does that exactly mean? I mean there is your friend in front of you crying hitting your boyfriend. What possible could she be thinking about her career or her marriage? Something like "damn look at my nails I seriously need a manicure before the wedding". Tbh I don't think she was thinking at that I believe she wasn't thinking at anything cause she just was incredibly bored. I know she is not the romantic sensitive type (not most of the time anyway) but I don't think that's an excuse. How exactly did they break the stereotype by saying look for once the woman is the insensitive one!! I don't believe men are insensitive to people's hurt anyway I think it depends on the person.

As far as Amy concerns I think her biggest mistake in regards to Penny is that she lied to her. But the fact that she lied shows that usually she is with Penny and takes pretty serious what she says and supports her but she needed a break. She didn't want to hurt her feelings by telling her she needs that break or make Penny stop confiding in her so she lied. Amy is to blame on that one she should never lie but that doesn't prove that she doesn't care about Penny just that all that was a bit much for her. She made a mistake but what she had in mind was Penny that's why she didn't just tell her "oh please will you just stop??". Or she could ask her to pass the butter cause well that's Amy :p

That is the difference. Friends make mistakes all the time but the real question is do they really care? Amy was wrong to lie at Penny but she does care. Penny technically did nothing wrong at the time. But does she care? Sorry I personally think she doesn't or at least not that much. I didn't even dream about a hug then all I wanted was her famous looks saying "awwww sweety you're hurting but Penny's is here". That's Penny she is the most sympathetic person in the show even if she is not sensitive or whatever.

My guess that was an odd and a bit disturbing choice from the writers or the director. They probably thought it was funny. I really don't know why since I didn't laugh once during the scene. I was sad about Amy but I wanted to shout at Penny's face "who are you"? That made me even more sad. Chances are that no one will remember that next season and everything will be alright again. Besties and all. Tho an emotional adorable scene establishing that they both love each other is what I need. They are the besties and now I am getting emotional and don't you people dare stare at your hands :p

Oh come so what Penny didn't pay attention to Amy's need's for once. Like some have said it's not like Amy or Bernadette have been a heck a lot supportive this season too. Does that make either of them bad friend's, no it's just life, they are not perfect, they have their hangups and flaws like anyone does. Showing emphathy or not does not make Pennny unsupportive or a bad friend, I mean what she susposed to hug everyone to prove she has a sympathetic side I mean really. Penny probably didn't feel the need to support Amy, she has more then enough to worry about. It seems a lot feel sorry for Amy, yet their is ton more evidence that suggest Amy hasen't been a heck a lot supportive of Penny and her career crisis as well. Like I said Amy and Bernadette have bonded, and I kinda feel tbh Amy and Penny and Bernadette are really growing apart as friends, it would be nice too see them reconnect, but I don't think its central to the show if they don't.

um... There, there...? :)

It may well be part of the new S8 narrative that Penny isn't so cuddly with Shamy. We will have to see how Amy reacts to what happened and whether the group dynamic change, though I don't think it will. I know that people don't necessarily have a great love for their partner's friend's partners but I don't think this is that. Where is Sheldon in all this? There might be an element of fatigue in Penny's reaction. Sheldon fled what he couldn't cope with, which included Amy. Last time Penny sent Leonard after him (s3 retreat to Texas), this time she chose to let him go. Amy could still track his phone with Leonards help and chase after him. She has options besides falling in a heap. All speculation of course until we find out.

Like Leonard forgave Raj, so we might have to forgive Penny (by we I mean those who are perturbed). Or like me, you can harbour a cold, burning anger that resurges whenever you think deeply about the nature of the character (by that I mean Raj) :)

its all preference.

Haha thank you Norg! :p

Shamy and Amy are two different things. Amy might be distressed over Sheldon but that doesn't matter. They are two separate people so I don't see why Penny should have a common attitude towards them except in cases like the table one. Amy is not just her friend's partner she is her friend. But if there was purpose behins that reaction then I am ok with it. At the end of the day is it a crime if Penny doesn't want Amy to be her good friend anymore? Just like I loved that Amy stopped idolising Penny and genuinly like her with her faults I can accept that Penny probably changed her mind about Amy. I won't like it but if there is a reason behind it all and that's it then it's ok. What I fear is that next season will start with Amy thanking Penny about the support. So we get the lamest scene and the supportive part is lost during summer.

That was at the start of season 4, things change.

Are you saying she does not care about their relationship? Because I don't think their is any evidence to say she does or she doesn't, it's just none of her business, or anyones for that matter, and she is more focused on her own life at present.

That's what I think, yes. But it's not a fact, just my interpretation.

And that moment where she is digging the Shamy, was before she met Amy.

And we all know how that first date turned out from Penny's POV, it resulted in her (and the rest) hiding in her apartment to escape the Shamy.

I won't go so far as to say she actually acted to break them up, but she did encourage Amy from time to time to start looking around for someone else.

I don't blame Penny for that, clearly anyone would encourage Amy to look around for someone else, as Sheldon clearly wasen't to Penny anyway boyfriend material. She could prob see that Amy was miserable in some aspects in her relationship with Sheldon, so Penny seeing Amy upset obviously wanted to change that. And to be fair it wasen't just Penny who hid from Amy, they weren't hiding to escape Shamy, but Amy. Remember even Leonard, Howard, and Raj found Amy to be very obnoxious, Leonard even said this, so they all hid at Penny's to avoid her haha.

I know someone who would be much better playing the blond Sheila in Hair. ;) As far as Penny's Broadway roles, let's hear it for Hokie3457, who has had Penny play Blanche Dubois in streetcar, Maggie in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Linda Loman, in Death of a Salesman, all in his fanfic The New York Revelations.

Yikes!! Thanks for the shout-out sir!

Enough with the Penny hate.she wasn't trying to destroy Amy, nor Shamy. She was supporting Sheldon. He needed to perspective in his life. For all we know, Sheldon gaining perspective may be the major push he needs to realise how much he cares about Amy.

agree with you 100%.  As a shamy fan, I see nothing wrong with how it all went down...and I've said it so many times, Penny is more close to Sheldon then Amy (even if Amy thinks otherwise).  I think the only hiccup was her bored look during the phone call at the end...but I think Penny has become numb to Amy's antics at times (she's numb to Sheldon's too).

And yes...all of this will hopefully play out well in the end.

I believe we are just discussing something about the show. It's not Penny hate it's just people interpreting facts in a different way. True different people prefer different characters. And there is a big chance that this preference is colouring all our opinions. So what? Anyway if someone prefers a character it's probably cause they get that character more so in a possible fight (or whatever this is) there are more chances to understand that character's side better. It's not Amy vs Penny or Shamy or Lenny or whatever. Anyway do we need a Penny fan or a Lenny fan (since we confuse people with couples) to say Amy was right now?? Fair enough when a shipper supports the "others" it shows that they're impartial and maybe have a point but I think all opinions said here supporting Penny or Amy or against Penny or Amy did have logical arguments and at least for me that means one thing. That our issue here is not black or white but it depends on personal views and level of tolerance of some things. For example what I disliked the most was the bored expression Penny had. If I was Amy I wouldn't question them why they didn't tell me but I would be hurt by Penny's indifference (though I don't think she noticed). If I was Penny I would probably encourage Sheldon to leave but I really really hope I would never react like that if a friend was heartbroken.

I don't think it's hate I think it's a conversation.

I live in a house full of young drama queens - and older ones. At some point you just go "build a bridge". I get what Kerry (oops) says. And Penny has just taken some big steps and has levelled up. Its not like Sheldon is on fire, has cancer or has fled the country. He caught a train and called her back. Penny is exhibiting a sense of perspective.

(didn't I say I was out? Where's my sense of perspective. LOL)

uh, this is one of those times I'm kind of sitting with Sheldon from s1e1 and saying "what's happening?"

  1. Perhaps Penny thought that Amy's behavior was simply predictable and the best course of action was to just let it play out.
  2. I could be forgetting something but generally it is Amy saying Besties. Generally I don't think Penny encouraged that but sort of put up with it.
  3. Penny probably figures this is the sort of stuff you are going to get if Sheldon is your boyfriend.

So, really where are you coming from on this? Penny's non reaction seems perfectly Penny to me.

Yes, we'll see the about the leveling up after the next career set back. My guess is wedding planning will be used to ease the pain. I hope she hasn't run off all her friends with her perspective.

Amy's emotions aren't more or less valid based on Penny's perspective of them. Nor does the fact that Penny is momentarily annoyed or inconvienced by them invalidate Amy's feelings. Amy will gain perspective with time, Sheldon might wish she hadn't, if she does it right.

Besides Penny taught Amy how to make a scene. That's on her.

Well, Penny was trying but in the end I think it really was Raj who demonstrated how to make a scene.

that's true, but Penny explained the benefits. Raj is just so much better at it.

Everyone takes their own journey. Penny as you point out has a very tenuous grasp on financial survival. She just made a big step up the continuum of life choices, which is a different dimension to the economic. She doesn't have a lot of resources and isn't an elite genius who got to Harvard and is poached from one university to another

In her field she is almost infinitely substitutable, and what she wants is almost unobtainable Sucked to be her for about 7 years on the money front too, so sure, lets feel good about that contrast.

Amy's problems are real to her, but love can be cruel and many of us learn that in the playground. Amy is going through what heaps of people experience at 14, 17, 25 or any age. And the guy called her back for freaks sake. Its sad for her but no one actively did anything to cause her harm except, wait umm,.. Sheldon. By any relative measure she is a drama queen here, because he wasn't even there to see the scene she made. She wasn't honest to him about her reaction. I don't get why she panders. And the outburst was meant to be funny.

i look forward to the Shamy reunion. It could be a hoot.

Remember Penny digs the Shamy tumblr_static_so_digging_the_shamyy.gif

That was at the start of season 4, things change.

She still ships Shamy.  Remember Anything Can Happen (7x21) - when they're at the psychic:

Psychic:  Yes, you clearly are.  But I'm seeing a specific woman that you're in a romantic relationship with.

Penny:  Oh, oh, here we go.

Pychic:  Does she have dark hair?

Penny:  Yes, yes, your spirit guides are on fire!

...............

Psychic:  He should give himself to this relationship.  Once he does, all his other pursuits will come into focus.

Penny:  Sheldon, do you hear that?  I mean, Amy is the key to your happiness.

Hey why don't we petition the writers to start the first episode of S8 as a 'to the second' continuation of that damned tag scene and they can show Penny's beautifully supportive follow up reaction to Amy's pain that may well have happened off screen ( once she stops whacking Leonard of course, if she intervenes during the belting she might cop it in the face too - has happened before). Then Penny can have her moment of redemption in front of  all those offended by her 2 second disdainful look, the besties are reunited, she can stay and have dinner with Lenny and discuss wedding plans with them, Amy gets to be maid of honour in her tiara again and all will be right in the world!  :sarcastic: We can call it a pre-tag scene.
