When taping dates were announce earlier, some people remarked that they were 2 to 3 weeks earlier than normal.  Looks like both sides built some wiggle room into the scheduling between taping date and show date.

Seven and a half weeks does seem like an inordinate long time between the first table reading and the season premier, so hopefully you are right and they built some padding into the schedule as a contingency.

I thought they moved taping up because of the Emmys being moved up?  I think a lot of shows did this actually.

Contact holdouts have happened lots of times, but usually it is one or two actors, not the whole cast - although the cast of Modern Family had a walkout a few years ago, it's actually a smart way to do it - instead of all the negative attention landing on one actor, they present a unified front.

Premier no, taping, it's going to depend on if the delay is only one day or more.

 

I meant the premiere TAPING date, not the premiere itself.  I know they have lots of time before the air date.

And you know, I don't think Modern Family has been hurt by any negative publicity over that.  I don't think that fans turned on the actors or the show.

I actually forgot about the Modern Family walkout until I read it in an article about TBBT situation, as long as the season isn't delayed or one of the actors leaves this will be quickly forgotten too once it's resolved - I am sure that only fanatics like us even knew the first table reading was scheduled for today.

Haven't received any word yet from Audiences Unlimited, but I can't imagine they'll be able to keep to the same taping schedule if the start of their production has been delayed.

I don't think The First Table Read being delayed for a couple days would delay The First Taping would it? If it delayed more then Two Days (If they reach an agreement on say like Saturday) then yes it would obviously be delayed but if They reach an agreement tomorrow or Friday The first taping could still happen On Tuesday the 5th. The thing about Modern Family is that they are not filmed in front of a Audience so it made it easier and more flexible to delay Taping while BBT is Taped in front of a audience and so it make it a little more tricky. 

 

Also wasn't The first Table Read for season 3 or 4 delayed because of Contract Negations?

Multi-cams have a very structured production schedule though, and the table read is the first day that kicks it off. Then they have several days of rehearsals and taping any scenes that can't be done in front of the audience. Taping happens on the fifth day. Getting the taping on Tuesday would mean them having to work through the weekend if the contract situation takes a few days to shake out.

I would "hope" that if they are back to work tomorrow they could still do a taping on 8/5.  Beyond that its tricky.  My stomach is in knots over this!!!

 

Like I said, I really really hope this is all being ironed out today.

It is possible, but it would have to be rushed. I can't imagine, if they're still nitpicking contracts, that they'd be game to shorten their rehearsal time and rush the first episode when they can just bump the taping. :/

agreed, but I don't think a table read day is a full on day, you know.  So they could do it tomorrow, and then start reheasing afterwards.  But, again, who knows.  This is killing me!!

I don't know that they'd want to bump the taping, though, because it would cause a domino effect for the next 2 tapings as well. I mean, if the stall lasts more than just today, they might eventually have to bump it back, but then that would cause the very same issue for the next two weeks.  So, either they'd have to cram and work a short week, or they'd have to bump 3 weeks of tapings back to keep each one with the usual number of days from table read to taping.

 

And I can't imagine they're still nitpicking the contracts.  I suspect that pretty much everything is already set and that it's just one or two sticking points, like the backend percentages.

 

And those helicopters.

sadly (well sorta) the ones who I think would be really "cramming" it in if they did it shortened to stay on schedule isn't the actual cast, but the behind the scenes folks. 

 

Plus, I heard the writers revamp things over the weekends anyway.

It's not the whole day, but it gives the writers time to make changes to what doesn't work in the script. The table read is meant to be the first sort of rehearsal to hear the dialogue and jokes out loud and see what works and what doesn't so they can make changes to the script before rehearsal starts. The table read is pointless if they just go straight into rehearsal after it without time to make adjustments.

I'm completely guessing here, but my best guess would be that they would just cancel the first taping (8/5) and tape the first episode on 8/12 and just push everything back. But I don't actually know, but that would make the most sense since people (not us, but other people LOL) don't care what episode they see taped and would just like to schedule to go to a taping based on when they're free and not based on which episode it is. So they wouldn't punish people with 8/12 tickets by moving them a week, they'd just have them see a different episode taped.

And because I think it'd be a nightmare to try and reschedule the lives of their entire audience to accommodate the specific episode schedule, so rather than risk that they might not be able to fill seats by rescheduling everyone, they know they've got a full audience of people for 8/12 and they'd just move the episodes up. I would assume, anyway.
