Big Bang Theory Schedule States Vs Overseas

Recommended Posts

I was just curious as once again TVNZ over here has put BBT on a mid season, temporarily hiatus. Is this common in the states? In NZ Big Bang Theory get's played on Wednesdays 8:30, but then a week later it get's taken off for a cooking show lol. I am just wondering as I am aware, their are hiatus's in the States, for Football games e.t.c. But is it common to have it taken off every two weeks? As it has been the case over here in NZ the past month.

In the states, they usually run an episode in the first to second week of December, then pick back up in the first or second week of January.   The second half of the season here tends to have a few "holes" (two to three weeks between new episodes) as they usually have about 13 episodes for the part of the season after the start of the new year.  However, starting in the second week of January,  there are about 19 weeks of the season, and there are only 13 episodes.  On top of that, they have to use 8 episodes in the two sweeps months(February and May).  That leaves 5 episodes, for the remaining 11 weeks.  With back to back new episodes at the beginning of January, they are down to three episodes for the remaining 9 weeks, which they seem to be randomly inserted into those 9 weeks.    Because of all the missing weeks, it would seem the hiatuses overseas, may simply be an attempt to group all the missing weeks together.

Cheers bolded part thought maybe true, however the Finalie has yet to air here yet, about four weeks away.

To be fair to the UK channels, they tend to get TBBT over from the states pretty quickly. For other US comedies (Modern Family, The Simpsons etc) it can take the channels several months to get them- we are still only halfway through the latest season of The Simpsons.

Yeah well our TV provider to get all the shows from the states is called Mediaworks, and this season it deconstructed it's fall schedule, and lost the right's to some fox shows. However seeing Big Bang Theory does not fall under Mediaworks, it is on Tv2 it is kinda odd being on hiatus every two weeks. It make's sense it is catching up for the missing episodes in the states, so they can only play so much, so they are maybe delaying it. But this has never happened before, even last year TVNZ played every Big Bang Theory Episode of S6 back to back each Wednesday without fail, has done that basically every year since 2008 (When NZ got the first season), so it is odd as to why it is happening this year.
