Sometimes Penny Is Like Rachel Green.

Has anyone else noticed how sometimes, Penny sounds/acts like Rachel Green?

 

For instance, in The Zazzy Substitution, when Howard is using the pumice stone on Penny's foot, the way she says "Wow, That is better.", is so like Rachel Green.

In what way? I would suggest you check out the site TVTropes.org. They have all sorts of similarities between shows. You might be amazed at how many different shows are 'Like' TBBT.

There are a few more superficial similarities. They are less intellectual women (though Rachel is more sophisticated and educated than Penny) dating pretty geeky men with Ph. D's. They are both avid fashion shoppers without the paychecks to back up that as a hobby. They both spent a long time waitressing, a job they both hated and both sucked at mostly out of fear of the unknown. Penny's going into sales, Rachel worked in sales.

 

They aren't carbon copies, there are some similarities.  I would venture to say Penny is closer to being the spiritual love child of Joey, Rachel and Phoebe.

They are both less intellectual women yes. But in Friends they were all pretty much equals other then Joey haha. So I think if your going to compare anyone in Friends to Penny it is Joey, but of course you would need to overlook the sex part . So most of the likenesses are superficial, look deeper they are not similar at all. In BBT case though because Penny's closest Friends are geniuses, and they both have jobs in the Scientific Field, and to them choosing a career in acting is so one to million shot, she is perceived as unintelligent and stupid. But look closer Penny is smart in her own way, like later on in S10 Joey was kinda the voice of reason, Penny can be too.

This maybe only me, but I always thought Ms Green was always looking for someone better than Ross and that the baby had something to do with them finally getting together.  Penny was always into Leonard, their relationship only got stronger as the series went on.  I really don't think if Leonard and Penny got drunk and married, in Las Vegas like in Friends, they would have divorced without giving it a try like Ross and Rachael did.

I disagree.    Penny is written as having a good deal more common sense and (aside from her sex life) more maturity than Rachel was ever shown to have.

YES! They do! I googled this and was happy to find this page.  It’s SO clear they ripped of Rachel to create a Penny. 

First off, they talk a like. They have the same humour, and same mannerisms.  But let’s get down to how they really are the same — hot chick moves in across the hall from geeky male character. 

They BOTH do a Vegas wedding in each show. 

Rachel and Penny start as waitresses and become a success   They both have a box of Ross/Leonard’s stuff from when they dated. 

Not to mention both shows have a song about a cat lol  

 this is a total rip off. Penny even has the same lines said in the same ways as Rachel

Definitely... i get that feeling a lot.. many of her expressions are inspired from jen anniston. Especially the way she looks at someone in a quirky or weird way.. she shrinks her nose and tilts her head..that is so rachel
