chas Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 (edited) Yes I am new to this forum, not sure where to post this. But Penny's new hair cut has drastically changed her character, and for the worst not the best. It gave her that Smart look, she will no longer look right dateing dumb guys. Her character no longer has that funny "dumb blonde" look. Plus removing her from the cheesecake factory waitress job has also helped ruin her character. I have read many hits where many fans are upset, me included. It has almost ruined the show for me. EDITED: BTW I have been watching TBBT for 3-4 years, I also watch the reruns everyday. So I am NOT a newbee to this show. I love it but Penny's haircut has changed her character for the worst, she will never be as funny with short hair and I'm not alone. Tensor Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Why exactly would she be dating dumb guys if she's engaged to Leonard? She hasn't been a "dumb blond" since before the writers strike in season 1. Since you didn't know that, or even that they were engaged, or even that she has a more professional job, that fits her haircut, makes it appear that you have even watched the show in a while. chas Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 (edited) I love the show so why put me down and try to make me look like the bad guy, does being a MOD give you that permission? Guess I'll find out if my post goes live or is deleted. I started watching TBBT about 3-4 years ago. I watch TBBT reruns everyday so you do not have a clue about how much I watch TBBT. Penny has played, what I call, the dumb blonde girl every season until now. Leonard/Penny have been on/off threw out the lifetime of the show and sh'es also's played the dumb blonde girl(in my opinion) You have your opinions I have mine, if everyones opinion doesn't aggree with yours I guess they are wrong, is that right? In my opinion until this year, penny's character is essentially the "dumb blonde". And with the new hair cut that character is gone. WHich in my opinions ruins her character. She's not dumb ole Penny anymore who wants to be an actress but is stuck in a cheesecake factory waitress job. She's no longer the funny character she's been for the last 7 seasons. FYI, Penny dated Zack in Season 4 Ep 11, Penny was Wonder Woman Zack was Superman. She played the dumb blonde girl then as she did most every episode until this year. Mr. Mod. If you are right then I guess this article has a ton of wrong opinions, even Sheldon hates it. Part of the link below says: Not since Felicity chopped off her curly locks has a television character's haircut inspired so much vitriol. chas Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Forgot to add. Penny and Amy where my 2 most favorite characters. They both had their own different type of comedy and a comedians personal apperance REFLECTS how funny they are. By Penny cutting her hair to me it has taken away from her being funny. She has a few expressions that partially make her character, EX. when someone says something stupid she move her head away with that move/stop 3 times or jerky motion then walks away or when she rolls her eyes. THose funny motions are just not as funny as they was when she had long hair. Bottom line, if you don't believe me. Go google it and you will find that by cutting her hair she has taken away something from the show. I am betting she is regretting doing it. phantagrae Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 What the hell show are you watching? Did you miss the last couple of seasons? She hasn't dated anyone but Leonard in ages and just engaged. And she doesn't have to be a "dumb blonde" in order to be funny, and she doesn't have to have long hair to be funny. Her hair wasn't doing the acting. And there's nothing that says she's never going to try acting again. She's only just barely started trying something different. We don't know how long it will last or if she may end up doing something different. I still can't believe that people are so hung up on her hair. It's just hair, not a character in the show. Penny is more than just a "dumb blonde". Characters are allowed to grow. Howard is no longer a pathetic lounge lizard ladies man wannabe. He went to space, he got married, he's learning how to be a husband. Even Sheldon has grown, in his slow increments, to the point that he not only has a girlfriend, but he has learned how to kiss her. Penny shouldn't be forced to stay the dumb blonde actress/waitress just because some people are afraid of a haircut.
3ku11 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 (edited) I dont get how you can equate change of hair cut, to suddenly changing drastically her character. Its a shock to you, but your projecting your own issues with it onto her character and the show. ITs just hair lol, I know several who think it looks great. I think she looks as hot as ever, really grow up hot IMO. Maybe you havent been watching lately, but the whole "dumb blonde" look hasent been their since Season 4. The new hair cut just supplements something that changed years ago. I mean Howard is no longer creepy, and therefore not as Funny, and your not acknowleding that change. Yet Penny is not funny anymore, because of her hair right. Oh yes Sheldon has an opinion, it is automatically fact yeah whatever. Penny has not been the hot party girl since Season 3. The show has been changing since Season 4. People need to get over the fact the show is not about four nerds and the hottie girl anymore. Even in tv land life moves on. Penny is growing up, she doesent have to be the hot blonde and thats it for ever. The new hair cut is reflecting a new change for her. Whether or not you find that funny or not is irregardless to the fact, you consider it a drastic change, when its not. chas Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Being a comedian or funny on a show or act, half is your apperiance/expressions. And cutting her hair has changed her character, anyone who can't see that is blind. Did anyone jump down Sheldons throat for hating it? In his personal life he hated it. If some would come out of their shells and do a little research, they would find that most do not like her new look on TBBT. I'm not gona argue with a few, especially when the majority of the worlds opinion aggrees with me. Google " Big Bang Theory Penny cut hair " and let me know how many hits you find that say the new look is good for the show. I found none. chas Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Not sure, but maybe in the back of my mind her new SHORT haircut reminds me of Miley Cyrus's. And since MC has went off the deep end, I can't stand her. Maybe thats part of it, Penny w/short hair reminds me a little MC. Tensor Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I love the show so why put me down and try to make me look like the bad guy, does being a MOD give you that permission? No, but being a member gives me the right to post my opinion, just as you are free to post yours. Guess I'll find out if my post goes live or is deleted.Sorry, we don't do that here. If you verbally attack another poster, or start to call names, or get personal, then you're posts will be edited or deleted, depending on the content. Can you be specific, why you think I was showing you to be the bad guy? I gave two specific reasons that I said made it appear you haven't watched the show. Can you explain why you would state she won't look right dating dumb guys because of her hair, when she is engaged to Leonard? She won't be dating dumb guys. As for your dumb blond claim... I started watching TBBT about 3-4 years ago. I watch TBBT reruns everyday so you do not have a clue about how much I watch TBBT. And I've been watching since 2007 and the only episodes I've seen less than 10 times or more at the ones from season seven, so what? It doesn't mean a thing if you make a statement that contradicts what has appeared on the show, and your statement did. As a matter of fact, That time with Zack was the last time Penny has been shown out on a date with anyone other than Leonard, coming up on four years ago. So your comment on her dating dumb guys now makes even less sense. The only explanation I could think of was that you haven't seen the show lately. Can you clarify why you would state any reason for her dating someone other than her fiancé Leonard? Penny has played, what I call, the dumb blonde girl every season until now. Leonard/Penny have been on/off threw out the lifetime of the show and sh'es also's played the dumb blonde girl(in my opinion) She was a stereotypical dumb blond, at times, prior to the writers strike (her Lincoln-Omaha comment in 1.01 Pilot, Her rambling on to Raj and forgetting what she was saying in 1.01 The Big Bran Hypothesis. But even during that time In Several Other episodes, she showed something more than a dumb blond. For example, she understood that Leonard did think that their time out in The Fuzzy Boot Corallary was a date, even though he denied it. You have your opinions I have mine, if everyones opinion doesn't aggree with yours I guess they are wrong, is that right? Does that mean if I disagree with your opinion, I'm wrong? This is a discussion board. You give your opinion, I'll give mine, others will give theirs. Doesn't mean one is right or or another is wrong. Unless of course you make a statement that conflicts with what has been shown in the show, or can be shown to be wrong. In my opinion until this year, penny's character is essentially the "dumb blonde". And with the new hair cut that character is gone. WHich in my opinions ruins her character. She's not dumb ole Penny anymore who wants to be an actress but is stuck in a cheesecake factory waitress job.See, this is the kind of comment that made me question how much you actually view the show. She hasn't been at the cheesecake factory, since 7.13 "The Occupation Recalibration. Since 8.01, "The Locomotion Interruption", she's been working for Bernadette's pharmaceutical company. So why you would claims she is stuck at The Cheesecake Factory is puzzling, if you see as much of the show as you claim. She's no longer the funny character she's been for the last 7 seasons. I have no problem with this statement. That's your opinion. What I had problems with was your misstatements of fact. FYI, Penny dated Zack in Season 4 Ep 11, Penny was Wonder Woman Zack was Superman. She played the dumb blonde girl then as she did most every episode until this year.Dumb Blond? Zack played the stereotypical dumb blond role in that one (The Justice League Recombination). She was far from dumb, and again, that was four years ago. And if you want to include a Zack episode, can you explain why she understood their experiment in 7.23 "The Lunar Excitation", but Zack didn't? not to mention her ability to explain Schrodinger's Cat, in 2.02 "The Codpiece Topology" although again, the guy with her played the dumb blond role by asking about Charlie Brown and Schroeder. While she has "Blond Moments" at times (they all do), she simply is of normal intelligence who happens to be in a group that has a far higher intelligence quotient than she does. That doesn't make her a dumb blond, that simply makes like the majority of people. She is far more intelligent than the guys she was dating, making her "not the dumb blond." Tensor Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I was offended when you bashed me, thats why I said that. You need to show where I bashed you. You made a statement that made no sense, at best, and completely wrong, at worst, and considering the shows that have been aired this year and last, made it, as I said earlier, APPEAR you haven't seen the show in a while. That is not bashing here and note I didn't say you haven't seen it, just your misstatement made it appear that you haven't seen it. I loved Penny's character and as my title said, cutting her hair sadden me. Her short hair does not fit the character she's had on TBBT for 7 years, she's not as funny. It hasn't affected the ratings yet, so I'm not sure it really matters to those who are the majority of viewers. As for her being funny, it may just depend on if you like or hair or don't. I thought she was hilarious tonight, especially with her looks at Raj and Emily. But, YMMV.

Post a national/worldwide site review link where viewers think Penny's new hair cut didn't hurt her character and the show. And please do not post this forum. I'm sorry, but just because some people go online to complain about HAIR doesn't mean that they represent the majority if the shows viewers. Out of TWENTY MILLION viewers, it's unlikely that any forum or tumblr site or blog is going to reflect the MAJORITY of the viewers. The comments section of any article about pretty much any show is going to have people posting negative things and for Big Bang in particular, there is always a group who think it's cool to rag on anything about the show. But the people who do so hardly represent the majority of anything. And even among fans, forums and online comments hardly reflect the majority of the show's viewing audience. With as many members as we have on this site, we barely represent a drop in the bucket, and we're just the "focused" fans, not the vast majority of viewers, who may or may not care about anybody's hair. And the idea that a comedic actor's appearance is key to their performance is ludicrous. Does that come from the Hollywood Comedian's Handbook? You can have all the opinion you want about Kaley's haircut, but that doesn't make it fact (that she's not funny with short hair) and it also doesn't make it the majority opinion, no matter how many online comments you see. As for your position on the forum, having such a histrionic reaction to people disagreeing with your opinion-stated-as-if-it's-fact isn't likely to make it easy. You state your opinion, others will state theirs, and that's the way the discussion goes. Some people might agree with you, but if others disagree with you, it's not bashing. No one attacked you as a person. It was your assertions that were assailed.

ajond Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Happy to say I prefer P with long hair. Her look that is. Length of hair has zero iimpact on how funny or dumb the character is or appears to be, I'm guessing the writers have a lot to do with that. 3ku11 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Lets be honest if Big Bang started with Pennys long blonde hair ppl would either A: Not notice a thing with Penny and it would be a constant or B: Say shes not the hot party girl anymore, shes outgrown that look. Her new haircut good or bad has got ppl talking. It has added shock value to her character. But i fail to see a point of difference between short hair and long hair equating to being funny. If you were under the pretense her appearence predated her character, and the lvl of funniness. Then thats probably your fault. She got introduced as the hot party girl, and archtypical blonde girl next door. But beleiving or being under the illusion, that over the course of history the "dumb slut joke" has been part of sitcoms. Means it well always be a constant with Penny is short sighted. Like saying a few comments in some articles deternines fact. Are you really relying on others comments and article stating it as fact, to form your own opinion? Like some said you cant possibly no the majority viewers. Penny may hv bn blonde, but its a misconception shes an tradational dumb blonde and thats where all the comedy should come from. She is intelligent, and maybe some have stereotyped her role in the show. But their is more depth and layers to her then that. The whole party girl image was being deconstructed by S4. Last "dumb" guy she dated was Zac in S4 . She has bn dating Leonard since S5. Almost Four Years. She has prooven quite capable when she wants to be. Like S3 when she learnt Physics to impress Leonard. You may prefer the "dumb blonde" and maybe her physical apperance changed that for you. But your point was, everyone knows it has changed. When the change was set in motion back as S4. The new hair cut just supplements her growing up to a new Penny 2.0. Like i said even in tv land life moves on. I can understand you prefering long hair Penny, but you predisposed your stance as "everyone knows" when your only speaking for yourself. Thats all keep posting though everyones entitled to an independent opinion.
Itwasdestined Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Chas, let me introduce myself. 6 months ago I wrote my first post as a newbie. I disagreed with the opinions of several posters and said so. Some people didn't agree with me and some did - I even got some likes. A few days later I wrote a post that was vehemently disagreed with by one of the top posters here. I didn't get upset about it. We had a lively discussion, agreed on some points and agreed to disagree on others. No hard feelings and a few days later, I was surprised to be added as a friend by the same person I'd spent a few posts having a debate with. Granted I'm hard to upset - I don't know you from a bar of soap - but the best decision I made before posting here was to spend time lurking and getting to 'know' the people on here so I'd know how to interact with them. Take Tensor. He likes to get into 'discussions' with anyone who doesn't use logic and passes opinions off as facts. He does it with everyone, from newbies to long time members. Sometimes he wins, sometimes he loses. We get it and don't get our balls in a knot over it. Don't take criticism on this forum so seriously. In the same thread on the same day, you can cop abuse and get a like in ten minutes. If you want to express an opinion you are free to, just be prepared to back them up with more than "google it" and 'everyone on the Internet agrees with me'. As for your 'opinion' on Penny's hair being the ruination of the show, just because you can 'google' a bunch of websites that are frequented by a trivially small community of Penny hair haters, doesn't make you right - or wrong. It just means you have found some people who agree with your opinion. Well done. I can also google Martin Luther King to find a website that purports to be the 'real story of Martin Luther King'. But I can also find out that same website is a front for a white supremacist group by doing a bit more with Google than just using basic search. That has nothing to do with Penny's hair being the ruination of the show - it's just something I found out on Google! Take advice from Martin Pollard and Nograv above - they have the gift of saying it straight when others (like me) say too much. We have fun about 80% of the time in here but for 20% of the time we argue, sometimes quite forcefully. But we bounce back. I suggest you do the same. Hope you hang in there and join in some other discussions - it's just that like phantagrae said, we're probably over Penny Hair discussions. Like Bernadette, 'we're nice to everyone' - some of the time. Cheers.
Chaliceinnana Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I don't happen to like the hair cut and I don't think Penny has been very funny this year. I don't think these things are related. Kaley hasn't been given anything to work with outside of her scene with her new boss in the first episode. Other than she's been reacting to Sheldon, Amy and Bernadette. That's not the fault of the hair cut. That's the writer's not giving her anything to work with. Then next week she gets to sit in the hotel while Amy and Bernadette rip Vegas a new one. I don't see the streak ending there. As for the haircut, I don't like pixie cuts very much on anyone, she isn't changing my mind. And there is no graceful way to grow out a pixie cut. I'm the same way. I don't like super short hair on women but that's my personal preference. I'm not a fan of her haircut either but its her hair and she likes it and I'd bet there are tons of people out there who do like it even though I don't. But her haircut has zero bearing on Kaley's acting ability, her likeability, or the success or failings of the show. I do think they are not writing Penny with as much meat this year but that has nothing to do with her hair or Kaley's ability to act with the material she's being given. kerrycec03 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I do think so far this season they've written Penny kinda snarky (and this is more based off the facials she makes when reacting to Sheldon/Amy/Bernedette/Howard)....thats not a reflection of Kaley, but the writing for her. For instance, the scene at the resturant after Leonard said that sweet line, her face just didn't say much to me (and I agree...a kiss should have been placed there). I also am not a fan of the short hair. Does it bother me, no, and I get it shows she's grown up and matured but I just don't get that fun vibe anymore. That could change but not loving it. hazelra7 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I am going to throw in my two cents here, but I will probably regret it, but here we go... I think the nut meat of the argument is the assumption that Penny was cast for her appearance. That appearance has now changed. If she all of a sudden gained 300 pounds, or got a bunch of tattoo's then would the discussion be different? I think not. Most men find long hair sexy. (Yes I can back up my statement, before you ask: http://www.relationshippsychology.com/flirting/attracting-men) Penny was cast as the sex symbol. When she changed her appearance, she changed her status in that regard. However, she is part of comedic troop, not just the sex symbol. She is supposed to be funny, charismatic, and the interpretation of these geeky guys for the audience. But let's be honest, Leonard wasn't looking at how funny she was when he saw her across the hall. He didn't say, "Our children will be smart and funny..." So the elephant in the room is: Did Penny lose her status as the eye candy of the show? Yes she did. However, the character has evolved past that status to being part of the group, not just the eye candy. Now, my opinion is that they are evolving all the characters to more adult and mature status. Sheldon seemed older, more comfortable in his own skin. Leonard is already acting like a married man and Penny is growing up. Being a Phar rep with a sophisticated hair cut is great, and might have been a decisions the writers made when they saw her hair. (Before you jump on me, I have no idea, so I don't need the hate mail, this time) Bottom line: Did Penny character change? God I hope so. I am glad they are evolving the cast. I look forward to it, especially Sheldon. But, Penny lost some sex appeal with the hair cut and I am glad for it. Okay, I will wait with anticipation for my impending doom... I usually don't comment on character's so I am not sure what I am signing up for here, but there it is...
SRAM Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I am going to throw in my two cents here, but I will probably regret it, but here we go... No I agree with some of the stuff, Penny is no longer the hot party girl with big dreams and a big heart across the hall, she is now the pretty woman who is trying to make something of her life, job wise and relationship wise.
