The comments on IMDB are among the stupidest out there.  I can't tell you how many stupid things I've read from horrible people on IMDB in the past.  It's like a gathering place for idiots.

And since the writers and PTB on TBBT approved of her haircut, then no one in the audience can say that she just decided to change her character.  She can't really "change" her character (and her haircut didn't change Penny at all, IMO) since she doesn't write the #$#@ scripts.

I think that people will read into the character what their own perspective demands.  If they hate the hair, they'll assume that Penny has suddenly changed as a character.

Pixie cutes have been around forever--I think Twiggy made them popular back in the 60s.  My Aunt Delores was a beautician (as they used to call them) and she gave my older sister and me pixie haircuts when my little sister was born so my mother wouldn't have to be braiding hair and all that while she had a baby to take care of.

We looked cute.

I've had short hair off and on since then.  I grew it long after that first short cut, because all the girls wanted to look like Marsha Brady, and long straight hair was the popular thing (like hippies...) but then in 7th or 8th grade I cut it short and I've worn it short ever since, except for a little while at the end of college/beginning of grad school.

Hair is just hair.  Kaley didn't dye it black or green or shave her head or whatever.  I think her short hair is really cute and she can wear it straight and "serious", or she can fluff it up with product and look more "scruffy" or whatever.  We've only had 4 episodes to get used to how she's wearing it, and we still don't know if Kaley will decide to keep it short, let it grow out, or go back and forth.  I REALLY don't think it's going to be the ruination of the show, no matter how many hockey knuckheads are crying about it on the interwebs. :p

Yesterday I read a comment on Facebook... this guy said he'll continue to cry about it, until he and others did enough damage to the show so it gets cancelled. I mean... what?

Sadly, for some, Kaley's choice has translated into anger that she has decided that making the attraction of men lower than her top priority somehow is an affront to all men and to them especially.

After all, men like long hair, it is one of the signs of fertility; large breasts, waists extentuated by a 10" difference in circumference to hips and long hair! Get that? Long hair ladies! Come on, play the game. Why would any sane woman ever want to change something that decreases her capacity to please men?

I speak as someone who has recently cut her own locks and has been enjoying the invisibility cloak of a pixie crop over the last few months. The freedom to move and go about my business unmolested and unharrassed has been bliss. And yes, I got the 'cancer' questions. And yes, the lesbian question too. In fact, since I've had this short cut, the amount of ladies who seek me out to start a conversation has increased from once in a blue moon to quite frequently, but sadly my hair cut is writing cheques I can't cash!

Now, at chin length, I'm starting to see the old patriarchal nonsense creep back. The 'cheer up loves' when I dare to look less than decorative in public (after all, clearly, as a woman this is my purpose in life) and last week an idiot who followed me round the supermarket whistling a medley of Blondie songs, only to scuttle when I asked him if he had something he wanted to say to me.

Am I a bright young thing in her 20s like Kaley? No, I'm a haggard old bag in my early 40s, so if I see the difference then you can bet she sure as hell does.

Kaley owes no-one a damn thing. And she sure as hell knows it. All power to your pixie crop beautiful lady!

Women, you are more than a summation of your nubile parts.

Awesome post! 11/10!

To be honest, I've never seen somebody telling a woman how to dress, how to cut her hair or whatever IRL. But I'm shocked people like that really exist (the guy who followed you). Why do they even care, I don't get it? But what do I know? I'm a guy who loves women with pixie haircuts...

Penny's hair doesn't affect the show for me, but I don't like it...... I don't think it flatters Kaley at all. It looks like they are piling on more makeup on her because her hair is gone....

I love her hair.  My hair has been that short.  It takes guts to do it because it shows off your face and you can't hide behind it.  I hope she keeps it for a while because she has a beautiful face and you notice it more now.

Just to make you more uncomfortable ATOB, you are still a younger woman. 40's, hah. Halcyon days I wish .... mumbles into oatmeal.... looks for other glasses... thinks about idiotic youth fashions...

Helicoptering out, the hot long haired blond was part of the design of the show and was a hook. It makes sense in context that she change but there are always consequences to actions. To quote an entirely fictional event, Dr Who brought down a prime minister by whispering "she looks tired". Personally I think it be interesting to see how this plays out. The show isn't going anywhere, Sheldon gets the focus anyway, and they keep packing in more cast. And a lot of the crying about this is unthinking nostalgia, I do believe.

I guess change is the only constant. Penny's change, even as small as a short hair is polarizing. But you cannot say that all guys don't like Penny or Kaley without long hair. I think shes never looked hotter. And tbh after long hair for 8 years, its kinda refreshing too see a new look. People don't like their beleif systems being suspended. Big Bang had a formula for a few years, but even a subtle change even small, can leave a sour taste in ones mouth. It's more a socieity thing, why people's reaction has been so well polarizing. People watch sitcoms for reliability. You can rely on sitcoms, regardless how your life is going, from an escape to your current reality. To alot the show has been changing so much, from nerdy guys playing video games. To guys dealing with real world issues. But I Think the real issue here. Is idealizing someone based on their looks. So Penny therefore is only funny because she had long hair, was the hot blonde girl dating dumb gym guys. But my point is I cannot understand being shocked by a hair cut. When not only has her life choices changed, but she has also less being the sex symbol, which is a change you have been seeing since S4. Her hair just supplements all those changes. So unless people are not interested in story telling, so have missed the whole story. The reaction tends to imply yes. But if the premise of Penny being the hot dumb party girl is based on dating dumb guys, she has been dating Leonard since S5, almost Four Seasons. So not liking the hair cut is one thing. But the shock even sadness that her character is not funny anymore because of that premise, surprises me, so must indicate people have not being following the story.

OH MY GOD, your cat's hair is WAY too short, you should get rid of it. Seriously, it doesn't fit at all!

Just kidding, I like your kitteh...

I know that I may get flogged for saying this, but I have been wanting to say this so here it is. I am one that does not like Penny's new hairdo. IMO, it is too short and doesn't look like Penny anymore. It seems like the character is going to go in a different direction and is going to loose the characteristics that made her Penny.

I don't see why you should come under attack for having a particular opinion on something. I'm going to stick my neck out and say I think the haircut looks fab on Kaley, but in terms of Penny as a character I do miss her long hair. I can understand that the writers are trying to mature her character what with the new pharmaceutical rep job, so the haircut does fit in with that. Personally I hope to see a return to acting at some point.

I still don't see what the length of Penny's hair has to do with growing up or changing her focus. I mean, it so happens that they're going that direction with her, but they could just as easily had her working as a drug rep with long hair, and had her pursuing her acting career with short hair.

If she were to audition for a role that somehow called for or suggested long hair, she could easily buy a wig for the audition. Actors invest in things like glasses and stuff for auditions fairly often, I believe.

And as for maturity, there's nothing that says that being mature requires shirt hair or that immaturity demands long hair. Ironically enough, a lot of people have compared her new look to Miley Cyrus, who is hardly the poster girl for maturity. When I was 7, I had a pixie cut. Did that make me look more mature?

I think people are reading way too much into the length of her hair and giving it much more weight than it really has.

The short hair is not a hindrance to auditioning. If anything it gives more scope. It's easier to wig short hair than long. Actors head shots are incredibly standard (and usually cheesy) shots of the actor in minimal makeup with their hair off their faces in a number of traditional poses. The casting agent wants to see what the actor actually looks like and is perfectly capable of picturing a wig or glasses on them to put them in character (that's their job).

First of all I think Kaley can do with her hair whatever she wants since she is a free person ;-) she has informed the producers beforehand so they were aware of it. Does anyone think they would have given her the go to go ahead if there was any slight chance of a problem they saw?

Besides, I don't think it changes the way that her character is displayed. It just makes clear that Penny indeed is undergoing a transformation and I am glad that's the case. I don't want the ever same stories with the never changing characters. I am grateful for the slow progress that Sheldon is making and I am perfectly happy with the changes that Penny is dealing with. At some point the character had to grow up ...

I just think its a sign people are not interested in the story telling of the show. I mean trying to justify the length of her hair diminishes her characteristics that made her Penny seems odd to me. The hair cut is a subtle change, to supplement a new grown up Penny. So your right she has changed. But compared to all the other big changes in her life. Like life choice changes, career changes e.t.c. Cutting the length of her hair, should not be the main focus. It also shows me most people who watch the show, are not interested in story development when it comes to comedies partic Big Bang. And just see it as binge worthy, and easily digestible. And prefer to put Penny/Kaley under the sterotype of a hot blonde with long hair, and even a little change disables their belief Systems. Im a guy do I prefer her long hair of course I do, but techniquely she looks as hot as ever. I mean she looks cute as hell haha. The point is she did this for a movie, we don't know how long this is going to last. But I am not going to sit here and bash her on Facebook or social media, because it blows my illusion of the show. ITs Kaley's hair, and it is her life. If it alters your perception of the show or her character, then tough cookies. I mean I even read a comment on FB saying the shows not funny anymore because Kaleys hair is a curse, I mean yeah.

Very different, as ppl are not shocked by her hair at all. Its her overall look people are shocked by. Yeah its different. But shes older now, and she looks great imo. Yeah i was shocked, but its her life. Society needs to get over this concept of possesion and ownership with Celebs. Because it leads them to beleive when they change even a little bit, it alters their perception and beleif systems.

I think it's too short.  I liked it better long.  But I am surprised that people would say that she looks like she has cancer or is a lesbian because of her haircut.  That is just really stupid and ignorant.  How does a haircut make a person look like they have a disease or determine their sexual orientation? That doesn't make any sense.

What amazes me is that people are STILL TALKING ABOUT HER HAIR!

Yesterday, Mayim posted a pic on IG of herself, Jim, and Kaley.  In the comments there were still rude people saying stuff like, "Hey, Kaley, you hair looks horrible" or whatever.  Just incredibly rude crap.

If they hate her hair so much, why don't they just go watch somebody else's hair on some other show, since that's apparently all they value.

I don't think her haircut even needs to be explained with a "Penny is growing up" defense.  It's JUST HAIR!  Does it change her look? Yes.  Does it change who the character is? No.  Does it change Kaley's ability to act? NO.

Was the hair acting? NO.

I actually don't mind the hair on Kaley and even if I did, I certainly would not criticize her personal choices. However, I don't think the hair particularly suits the Penny character, even given her career change.  I think the short hair looks more severe and makes her seem less approachable, when Penny's outgoing nature has been one of her major character traits over the years.

I'm obviously not going to stop watching the show over it, though.  People are blowing it way out of proportion.
