Stewie99
News just in from www.tvwise.com:'The eighth season of the CBS comedy series The Big Bang Theory will receive its UK premiere on E4 on Thursday October 23rd at 8:30pm, it has been announced.' Good news for UK viewers as premieres for previous seasons were usually in November time. E4 have also chosen a good timeslot for the show at 8.30pm on a Thursday- there isn't much competition around on other channels so TBBT can expect to get some decent ratings. The early premiere date means that UK viewers will be just seven episodes behind US viewers.
rachelshamyfan
Cheers for that, although we know from previous years that there will be a break from Jan to April which is ridiculous really, just glad I can watch all the episodes online rather than waiting! TBBT is actually one of the quickest shows to come over here after the new season starts in the states. The new season of Modern Family doesn't start here until next month and The Middle is still airing it's previous season, never mind the newest one! I'm looking forward to the Premiere. Doesn't look like we'll get two new episodes on the first night like our friends in the US, though. Edited October 9, 2014 by Stewie99
StuBFrost
The trouble is that by the time c4 have butchered most of the lines out the episodes don't make much sense.
rachelshamyfan
True! Cooper kripke episode is the worst for that, by the time they've cut out the convo between Sheldon and Barry none of it makes sense

That is way I never watch it on C4. Or even reruns, they proper ruin it big time by cuting out some good bits. Come on, C4, show it at 9 o clock. Come on, C4, show it at 9 o clock. I've never know them to cut bits out of episodes being shown for the first time- at least, not noticeably. I think they only cut stuff out of the episodes which they show in the daytime. The first time an episode is shown on E4, it's uncut- but after that, they cut bits out so that they can repeat the episode at any time without offending anyone. Sorry to disillusion you but I watch the E4 first showing to specifically see what is cut out and the episodes are butchered, even on first showing at 8.30PM. eg Tenure Turbulence lost all the trash talk, Tangible Proof lost all the Bitch references and let's have sex, Contactual obligation, only Pennys space mountain confession appeared out of the 3. Interestingly in the case of Tangible proof the Bitch references went back in for the Sunday repeat at 8.30.

The show airs even earlier in the US than it does in the UK- at 8pm. Does the UK just have much stricter TV rules?

The U.S. episodes are the complete versions, the E4 cuts are local to the UK, they basically cut out (crudely) any swear words, references to slut, bitch, politically incorrect (Raj's confession to Penny in 501 perfect example), and any sexual innuendo. they basically try to get it below about a 12 rating for programs and in the process ruin a lot of the jokes.. The uncut version , the DVDs are uncut, are much funnier. Edited October 11, 2014 by Zhalen565

I remember watching the 1st ever episode when penny said "what do you guys do for fun, E4 literally cut the whole sheldon comment about the sperm bank. Which was one of the funniest jokes in that episode. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
Stewie99
I suppose it is because E4 want TBBT to be a 'family programme' to get more viewers. If they put it on after the 9pm watershed, they'll be losing a lot of their younger viewers. As an evening programme rather than a late night one, families are more likely to watch it because the kids can watch the show as well. If it's too inappropriate for kids, that may put casual family viewers off completely. If it means a million more viewers for the show if you cut a few sex references out, you can see why E4 might be inclined to slightly edit the episodes. Tonstar17
I get that, but with all the sex references and stuff its not really a family show. If they want more viewer's, why don't E4 show new episodes at 9.00pm and repeat the next day with the edited version for families. It's just annoying having to watch the edited version. MTBigBangTheoryFan
I dont think of BBY as a Family Program. TAAHM has way more Sex in it then BBT but still neither are exactly Family Programming nit in the sense like ABC Wednesdays. In the States BBT airs at 8/7 and TAAHM airs at 9/8. BBT use to air at 9/8 in it Early Seasons. However CBS has never really been about Family Programing at least not since the 1970s. I think it suck you get Uncut Episodes when it airs in the U.K . E4 should air it an hour lager then and post the Episode on it websites

It makes sense. They are showing some old episodes on E4+1 & just skipped past it by instinct. Even though it's past the watershed. Just a habit because I am thinking cuts. 3ku11
They cut things over here in NZ too, but its more to fit into the schedule over here. Unfortunately in NZ we have to wait till April-May. I did send an email to TVNZ (Our broadcaster over here). Just replied with a lame generic email "We appreciate your feedback, we make a concious effort to read all replies, and be assured we have read yours". Not sure if that means I well get a reply but anyway haha.
