I think Amy was right to question the idea of the article. This issue arises again and again in many fields where women have achievements in traditionally male jobs. Someone's always wanting to do a calendar of hot women in whatever field, usually involving lady cops bursting out of their uniforms, etc..

And I think that Bernie's comment grew out of her frustration and maybe even her embarrassment that Amy was probably right.

Anyway, I think the matter was resolved. Bernie seemed to agree with Amy's stance before she found out about Amy's email, and she did come over to apologize. Though they were interrupted, Amy seemed to be over it,

I enjoyed this episode, laughing out loud several times, even though I was totally spoiled. I really enjoyed BBT's performance and there some really funny lines.

One of Howard's was really funny, the one about how a galant man would defend his fiancé from being compared to a urethra. :)

Anyway, I really enjoyed it. :)

Hi Everyone, I'm a newbie!

I really liked this episode because I always love when the guys joyfully geek out over stuff. It's fun to see them so happy. I liked the B plot with Bernie and Amy much less, but I'm just glad to see all the main players get some air time.

I didn't have any problem with Penny looking single to up her sales; we all know she's not going to cheat on Leonard.

An appearance by Stuart would have been nice. He could have been at the apartment with the rest of the guys and gone to the doctor's house with them.

I agreed with amy. And she didn't specifically get Bernadette kicked off the article. She complained about the whole premise, and since the magazine listened I'm guessing it was a real (quasi)science magazine, not something like Maxim where that would be appropriate and they have no shame in admitting it. I kind of liked how they tried to touch on women being judged on their sexuality no matter what profession they're in. I'm glad they didn't go any deeper because this is a short comedy but it is a real issue and just to see it acknowledged in a show that really revolves around the mens' lovelifes is nice.

Enjoy this episode a lot.  The guys were hilarious and loved the Billy Bob Thornton cameo.  His lines were the funniest  his "Alright"  is just like Bob Newhart's "No." lol.  Billy is really good at playing creepy guys though I still think Bad Santa is his funniest role lol.  I wouldn't mind seeing this creepy doctor guy back again, I think it be hilarious if he tries to flirt with Howard's mom and then Stuart and Howie both get jealous.

I wish the Amy/Bernadette debate was more properly resolved because it did touch on a really interesting issue in the real world.  But, real world problems like sexism in the workplace are not going to get resolved in a sitcom anyway so overall I still enjoyed this one.  I still found it funny, but mostly because of the guy's storyline.

At first, I agreed mostly with Amy because I do think its very annoying that women aren't taken as seriously as men in the workplace not just as scientists, but really in most fields that have more men in them, politics, law, even mining etc....women are not treated as equals.  But at same time, I do think it was wrong of Amy to send that email without telling Bernadette first.  You can tell by her face when she told her the truth she felt guilty because she did it behind her back, which wasn't right.  She could have just been upfront about it and said "Look, I've got to stick by my principles on this I think this is wrong so I'm writing an email."  Bernadette still wouldn't have liked it, but at least it wouldn't have came off as Amy going behind her back to wreck something Bernie was excited about doing.

Plus I'm sure Amy was a little bit hurt/jealous that Bernie was chosen and not her.   I know a lot of intelligent girls or athletic girls who aren't considered pretty or sexy by certain beauty standards others set so they try to make fun of the "sexy" girls call them dumb or slutty or make fun of what they are doing or wearing  or call what they are into sexist because they choose to flaunt their sexuality.  Its really petty jealousy driving them, and not just concerned feminism.  That kind of jealousy that is very unattractive in general and leads to more problems for women not less.  But, at same time it doesn't mean women who stand up against this kind of thing don't have a point if this magazine flaunting sexy scientists is only about women and doesn't have an equal one for sexy male scientists then that isn't right.  And Bernadette is wrong they do have sexy male scientists to after all in my opinion the guys on this show are sexy in their own way and could be featured in magazine just as easily as Bernadette especially Raj he is quite good looking especially if you put him in a sexy suit.

Basically, if people choose to do flaunt their sexiness, they can and should be allowed.  Other people just have to suck it up and deal with it or come off as dictators or creepy like that doctor guy. I do think society has brainwashed both males and females into treating  people like sexual objects, women get it worst, but even men are flaunted for their good looks in magazines and its been that way for a long time that is never going to change.  But, any professional science magazine should be focusing on actual science and what these scientists have accomplished in their fields not on their looks because well that is just tacky and very unprofessional.  So yes, I'm totally fine with Amy getting them to shut down the article, just not the way she did it without at least giving Bernadette the courtesy of knowing what she was going do first they are friends after all.  And I do hope next week some of Amy's sexual frustration issues are dealt with cause she has been sexually frustrated for too long and Sheldon needs to start meeting at least some of Amy's needs or she needs to break up with him and find someone else who will.  Otherwise she's only going to keep making herself and everyone around her more miserable because she wants more love and isn't getting any and then Bernadette really will be kind of right for what she said even if it was mean to say.   hopefully next week's prom episode Sheldon will at least do something romantic.  I'm looking forward to that.  Amy doesn't just deserve romance she desperately needs it NOW! lol  :)

Amy clearly was right, and Bernadette was just being a bitch (but she seems to be that more and more, and not in a good way).

Bernadette should have known how Amy struggles with that aspect of her relationship with Sheldon, thus being mean on purpose.

And once again we get confirmed Penny only has one "skill", but we all already knew that.

I liked the creepy doctor at first, but it got boring really fast.

Gave it an Okay.

This episode moved really slowly for me. I didn't laugh much, and I don't get the excitement over Billy Bob. He was boring in this role. I think a lot of actors could have done a better job playing a creepy urologist. And I'm still recovering from the meanness of Bernie's line to Amy! At least Amy got some male attention.

Looking forward to Prom, though! Looks a lot more fun than this episode.

I just watched it, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  My favorite line was when Leonard protested Sheldon inviting the doctor into their apt because he tried to score with Penny and Sheldon replied (pointing at Howard and Raj), "so have these two and they're having dinner with us!"

I knew BBT was the guest star, but had mixed feelings about it - as while I have liked some of his movies, others are on my all time stinkers list, but I thought he was perfect as the creepy, lovelorn urologist with a cool basement - he gave a funny understated, deadpan performance which made me laugh often - my favorite part was the bit about the Mississippies, as well as the guys knowing nods at his saying collecting geeky stuff doesn't get you girls, and I liked how he became interested in Penny, Amy and then Bernadette in succession - the game/memorabilia room was awesome, I can see why it was Sheldon's idea of Heaven and laughed when he thought being locked in the room made the day perfect, glad Bill Bob got his wish to be on the show granted and I hope he comes back again.

As for the Bernadette/Amy argument, I thought they were both wrong, Amy crossed the line by getting the article and photo shoot cancelled, basically foisting her belief system about women in science on Bernie - it was Bernie's decision to do it or not, not Amy's - but then Bernadette crossed the line by saying that nobody wanted to see Amy sexually - that was unnecessarily hurtful - it is good that she attempted to apologize, but Bernadette has become a bit to mean spirited lately.

Not Halloween themed, but it was a fun episode for Halloween eve that I thought was very good, bordering on excellent. :good:

I love Billy Bob Thornton, so this is perfect!

Good episode, that bit about "scoring with Penny" was really funny.  Really enjoyed this one, actually a instant "favourite" and not just because Billy Bob was in it either, although that did help.

I found the Bernadette/Amy storyline really interesting and very thought provoking.  I myself,  I am guilty of appreciating someone's work because of how they look, their charisma, yes it is sad that it helps get people noticed, but it does, but I will say there has to be something more than just looks that keeps my interest there has to be talent, skill and an intelligence behind their work.

I was pretty happy with this. Billy Bob Thornton was tremendous - his insanity obvious and ominous but throttled right down. The room was a cave of wonders. Sheldon was a delight with the urology jokes. And Penny appears to be doing good work too. She seems well and quickly settled into the sales job. The Amy/Bernadette argument was nicely provocative as well. It's enjoyable when they give just one or two stories a run. No complaints at all.

Well tonight's episode is proof that this show appeals to lots of different segments..

I enjoyed the episode and found some funny lines. I have to admit I was more patiently awaiting next week's promo so I was distracted...

I rewatched the episode with my husband later in the evening and witnessed why the show appeals to so many. He was in a state of pure aww when the guys went into the basement. He was sitting there naming off all the games, movies, etc. It reminded me big time of the something for everyone factor.

Me personally I enjoy the relationship stuff but for my husband he was more in love with last nights "stuff".

Overall I thought it was a cute episode

Was Amy right about being in such an article? Yes, definitely, and I think it's a pet peeve of Mayim's as well, as it looked to me like she put a lot of heart into her delivery. Where Amy went off the rails is when she stuck her nose into it by firing off that blistering email to the magazine. It wasn't her place to interfere like that, period, full stop. It would have been better if she had convinced Bernadette on her own; doing it this way created unnecessary tension (which, of course, was the whole point... COMEDY!!!). Just my $.02...

I enjoyed the episode.

Loved the girls hanging out in Pennys apartment.

I didn`t know the gueststar Billy Bob Thornton at all (sorry but I really don`t know him) but he was amusing  in his role as Dr Lorvis I loved it when he counted the Mississippis *LOL*

And the scene where the guys saw his basement was cool! Love that what he all has there. And it was fun watching the guys playing Donkey Kong *LOL*
The thing with Penny that she took off her engagement ring kinda reminded me of that story from Gabby and Carlos Solis from Desperate Housewives where Gabby tooked her ring off (she was married but ring is ring) to sell more and Carlos got very upset about it. Thank god Leonard didn`t freak out that much. Loved Leonards " You owe me one" *LOL*

Loved Pennys reaction when she saw the Dr and Amy *LOL*

I personally don't think Amy was wrong in sending that e-mail. It's not as if she forced the magazine to cancel the photoshoot.

She just offered her opinion, and obviously convinced the magazine it was wrong to do.

Amy constantly praised/lusted over Penny and used to put down Berni a lot because she thought Bernie was not as sexy/hot as Penny. What happened then ? Why not praise the fellow scientist?

And clearly it was not her place to intervene in Bernedette's choice

I agree with Martin on this. She did this without trying to convince Bernadette. If you agree with Amy on what she did you can't be mad about Bernadette's comment about no one wanting to see Amy flaunt her sexuality.

This episode was okay for me.
I don't really know Billy Bob so I was not very impressed by the announce of the guest. And for the episode, the story is fine but I don't really laugh so much, some few jokes anyway, but I find that the episode lacked pace.
I feel the same with Proton's episodes because, he, like the Billy Bob's character, spoke very quietly. Maybe the others should be more energic to compensate, I don't know.
Anyway, it was nice to see this collection.

Wrong. She stuck her nose in where it didn't belong. This was Bernadette's choice to make, not Amy's. In a very Sheldon-like maneuver, Amy interfered in a situation that was none of her business, and was in the wrong for doing so. I don't blame Bernadette for being pissed off at her -- not for the article being cancelled (which she actually didn't have a problem with, as she had become ambivalent about it anyway), but for Amy's interference, though her mean-spirited crack at Amy went over the line (but again, COMEDY!!!).

That's your opinion, I just think otherwise, which is just as valid as yours.

I don't understand how someone else's opinion is "wrong". Doesn't that defeat the purpose of an opinion?

Anyways, I don't think Amy was wrong. She wasn't just angry that Bernadette was doing it; she was angry because women in science, as a whole, have enough trouble being taken seriously and this was exploiting them. Again, not only Bernie but the other 49 women as well.

She also did not tell them "you can't do that". She pointed out how she felt and they agreed with her. Sorry you all didn't get to see Bernie in little to nothing. Bummer.

I agree. Amy is not the editor of the magazine, and magazines get feedback letters like this all the time. She has every right to express her opinion. It was the editors choice to cancel the article--and frankly, I have a hard time believing ONE email, namely Amy's, would be enough to get them to change their minds. I know Amy said something like "they cancelled because of me" in the episode, but I disagree. They cancelled because the editor/editorial board, upon reflection, decided to cancel.

Amy possibly stepped over the line in contacting the magazine without telling Bernie first, but Bernie's response about Amy's sexuality was unbelievably mean. I guess you could take it as Amy isn't hot enough for the magazine article, but I think what Bernie really meant is that Sheldon isn't interested in her sexuality. I wish Amy had a can of change in her purse again so she could have flung it at Bernie. I don't like how mean Bernie has become this season. I hope they tone her down a little.
