What ironic is Amy has a strong POV about women scientist shouldn't being doing sexy photo shoots. Understood. But as Bernadette put it who wants to see Amy flaunts her sexuality? Sheldon? What Bernadette said was mean and shouldn't have been said and deserved an apology but was it wrong?

Ok, so let me clarify...yes ultimately the magazine took the shoot away.

However, when Amy was sitting with Bernie and they were hanging out as friends, part of the conversation went like this:

Bernadette:  "That was for me to decide, not you."

Amy:  "I disagree.  As a female scientist, I think what you do affects all of us."

So, I think presented like this...I can see initially why Bernie would be ticked.  Do I think her comment back to Amy went too far? Yes.  That is my opinion.  I think they were both wrong. That is my opinion. I give Amy props for bringing up so it wasn't a surprise if (and yes the magazine pulled it), so yes based on what was presented and how it was presented it sounds like Amy was a partially a factor in the magazines decision to not run that shoot (even if the was one of many letters of opinion).   I think it was one time story that will never come up again but was presented on screen, IMO, does show that Amy had a role in taking away that option from Bernadette.

I think it was wrong, but we will never know for sure I guess.

I think there are enough ppl who would prefer to see Amy flaunt it instead of Bernadette or even Penny.

Maybe not the majority of man and women out there, but definitely some.

But that was  my whole point. Amy felt that if Bernadette did the photo shoot it affects ALL of us( female scientists) Do you agree with that? I don't. Sure there are people that would prefer Amy to flaunt it instead of Bernadette or Penny(not me LOL). All Amy and Bernadette did was give opinions on the photo shoot and the sexuality.

I was surprised to see how mild-mannered Dr. Lorvis was.  Billy Bob Thornton usually plays such outrageous characters that it was unexpected for him to be so milquetoast.  For me, the subtlety made his performance that much funnier.  I would call him more desperate/lonely and socially clueless than creepy.

My two cents on the Amy/Bernie fight is that Bernie was way over the line, but she apologized instantly and begged Amy not to leave, then went to Penny's to smooth things over.  It doesn't fix the hurtful comment, but IMO it counts for something.

I love the way the writers have twice lately (also with Focus Attenuation) show that, even though all four guys are in relationships and they've matured, they're still the same guys.  They're still delightfully child-like in their love of sci-fi and video games.  Even when they're 70-year old grandpas, they'll be buddies hanging out playing video games, watching sci-fi movies, and arguing over comic books.

Dr. Lorvis came off less creepy in watching the episode than he did on reading the taping report - he was more socially awkward with boundary issues like the guys were in the beginning - Leonard and Sheldon cleaning Penny's apartment while she was sleeping, Howard using a satellite to find the America's Top Model house - as the title suggests, he misinterpreted Penny's signals, but he was going to leave after Leonard explained the situation to him, until Sheldon invited him in for a hot beverage - it wasn't cool locking the guys in the game room, but I think between three PHDs and a masters in engineering they could have found a way to get passed a locked door if they wanted to get out, but they were clearly having to much fun to be concerned about it - and yes, the guys will still love geeky stuff when they are old and grey.

Saw XIII: you must escape this room in 30 minutes to survive. But to do that you will have to live with never beating the high score on Donkey Kong Jr. The choice is yours.

Amy never did that to be 'mean' or because she was jealous of Bernadette, let's look at this from Amy's angle. She genuinely thought she was doing Bernie a favor. She thought that since it took years for her to be taken seriously as a microbiologist and get respected in her field, getting semi-naked in a magazine would completely ruin all the hard work she went through to get where she is now.

Yes, Amy didn't have anything to do with this, she was out of line to e-mail the editors, but her intention wasn't to hurt Bernadette.

Bernadette on the other hand, purposefully said that to hurt Amy's feelings. She may be socially awkward and not the best dressed woman in the world, but she has feelings like everybody else and one of her best friends just called her on her greatest insecurity. So...yeah Bernie was a major jerk. And since this will never be addressed again...meh

And apologized the second it came out of her mouth. And spent the rest of the day looking for her to apologise again. We all say shit in anger we regret or don't mean. There's some real pent up emotion building in Bernie this season that needs addressing by Howard methinks. I'm cutting some slack for her on this one.

I can't be really on Amy's side. Amy's conduct in the past does not show her to be a beacon of moral principle; if she were chosen and not Bernadette, she would have gleefully rubbed it in Bernadette's face.

Also I am remembering very vividly when Leonard slept with the old lady, Amy revealed that she has a fiancee in Saudi Arabia who bought her a multimillion dollar microscope. So she has prostituted herself worse than Bernadette. Much worse.

To top it off Amy is a terrible friend.  AND she is always putting Bernadette down in front of Penny.

So even though Amy's words did make sense, I am 100% on Bernie's side!

Exactly ,she always put Penny's beauty in front of Bernadette's brain. She also never missed a chance to let Bernie know this.

Hypocrite.

Yes Amy can come across hypocritical. Hence why I was on Bernadettes side. For once I would love if ppl would take Amy accountable for her behaviour and actions. And not treat her like some special case jmo. Same occured with Penny in s7 finalie, Penny wasent perfect. But nothing she did was wrong all detrimental. Tbh she was fine, per usual no accountability for Amy. Hope that changes as fans.

the same people that don't make Amy accountable don't make Sheldon accountable. Coincidence?

Haha well possibly. Look Bernadette and Penny can be bad friends too in terms of characterization. And i well be the first to say they have been bad friends to Amy too. But lately I have noticed how Amy devalues Bernadettes beauty for Penny's. Not to mention always obsessing over Penny's looks. Now she's having a go at Bernadette for that mag? Yeah sorry that doesen't mesh. Just seems to be this trend in the BBT fandom, selectively choosing when to make Sheldon or Amy accountable for their actions. Don't get me wrong I like Amy, I just don't think her happiness is the main precedent here. Watching the S7 finalie I was surprised as Amy came across kinda selfish and a bad friend to Penny. But what ever this whole thing is just a isolated instance, I am sure Penny well go talk to the hand Amy, and that well get the Penny haters in full force haha.

Did anyone (Amy vs Bernie debaters) actually watch the episode or listen to the dialogue? It was an ARTICLE not a PICTORIAL about the 50 sexiest female scientists in CALIFORNIA. There may have been photos accompanying the article, but they may have just as well been taken in their work clothes/environment.

Amy told Bernie her feelings and she should have left it at that. Bernadette was hurt that Amy went behind her back and helped the article get cancelled. And Bernie was probably right. If Amy had the more mainstream image of a sexy female, she would be the first to jump on it. Being featured in the article could have led to Bernie being headhunted by a bigger company with a bigger salary.

As for BBT (Billy Bob Thornton or Big Bang Theory). Not a fan, but he was perfect for this part. A socially awkward doctor (gee, where have we seen that before) who misreads woman. I can understand why you want to keep his taping a secret, but why the hell wouldn't the network or the production company advertise the hell out of it before it was broadcast. BBT fans that don't watch TBBT would be brought in and might stay.

ADDED: There was a photo shoot schedule, but it was never said what she would be wearing.

Well ... she said "speaking of underwear," Amy said in various stages of undress and Bernie didn't corrected her, she told her no one wants to see Tyson in wet t shirt bend over the hood of a porsche, so from that I get some picture of what it should look like. I think if that was article you described, Bernie would just tell her  to win the argument, and she wouldn't feel bad about it.

The female scientists were going to be judged on their "sexiness", not on their work acheivements.  If a woman was "sexy" enough to make the cut, her intelligence or scientific achievements would be meaningless, for the article.

What Amy objected to was that such judging would demean the acheivements of ALL women scientists.

I don't understand why some people seem to think that A) Amy somehow would have not had the same principles about the nature of the article/photoshoot whether or not she was considered "sexy", or that B ) those who are defending Amy's stance are doing so only because she's Sheldon's girlfriend (implied by others, not by BigBang15.)

So, if Amy had been chosen for the article, along with Bernie, do you think that she would have had no principles about the demeaning nature of the article?  Or that Bernie should want to be headhunted by a bigger company for the size of her breasts rather than for the nature of her work?

This was an article about SEXY female scientists, not the BEST female scientists or the HIGHEST ACHIVING female scientists.

Should a company hire Bernie because she's sexy?

This discussion highlights the same discussion going on about Kaley and her haircut.  Some people apparently value Kaley not for her acting chops, but only for her looks--if she cuts her hair, suddenly she's not "the sexy blond across the hall" and not even pretty anymore (in their eyes) and therefore suddenly not funny.

Does Kaley's value lie only in her looks?

And this kind of conversation still swirls around Mayim.  Because she doesn't look like Melissa or Kaley, she's "ugly".  That may not happen here in this forum--though I've seen some rude things said here--but it's not uncommon for people on the internet to call Mayim ugly.  Never mind that she's a good actress who gets Emmy nominations.  If she's not "sexy" or "beautiful" (by someone's personal standards) then she has no value.

IMO, Amy was right to email the magazine and call attention to the demeaning nature of the article, and Bernie was wrong to accuse Amy of jealousy.

I have to agree with BigBang15, Amy would be the first one to take the opportunity. I'm just not buying her sudden behavior.

I think that she wants to be considered sexy, but not at the expense of her work, which is what an article like that one would do.

Besides, she already considers herself sexy, in a way.  She thought that her beckoning hips had made Leonard fall in love with her, she was very confident in her own beauty when the girls were trying on bridesmaid dresses.

But even so, she was offended that Penny was going to use her sexuality to schmooze the Tenure Committee members on Leonard's behalf.  Amy was there to help support Sheldon as the most brilliant scientist.  Sure, she might have been impressed by Penny's "gravity defying" bosom, but she also said that no amount of bosom would alter the fact that Sheldon was the most deserving.

And in the episode where Amy was going to come to work at CalTech, when Sheldon expressed his misgivings, she said that she was a scientist first (and his girlfriend secondarily.)

I think she may want to be beautiful, as we all do, generally, but I think that she's expressed her professional integrity more than once.

There's a difference between wanting to be attractive and wanting to compromise your integrity for the sake of sexual exploitation.

She expressed her misgivings to Bernie right away, and it was very clear in the conversation that she objected on principle, not on a personal level.  If Bernie had not been involved, I think Amy's reaction to learning of such an article being planned would have been the same.

Still the question remains? Why did Amy always put down Bernie simply because she considered Penny more pretty than Bernie. She never raised the point of Bernie being a scientist back then.

If she had the same attitude , which she had shown in this episode , she would always try to support Bernie instead of Penny.

Anyway as one the poster mentioned above she was engaged to a dude from Saudi Arabia to get some funding. Something which is work related.

Again it boils to the same thing, as long as she does it , its ok. But if others do it is unethical or demeaning. Hypocrite.
