ATM
I did read your post. You said that they wouldn't work unless they got those big paychecks. I pointed out that it was WB who kept them from starting production, not the actors striking until they got their big paychecks. There's a difference in the implication you make. "Working for the fans" doesn't mean they don't deserve a big paycheck. People act as if actors should be working for free and that getting a paycheck makes them selfish. I know you don't work for free, but getting a paycheck doesn't make one selfish. You call yourself selfish and I can't dispute that because I don't know you. So why would you call them selfish unless you're trying to imply something about the size of their paycheck? What I'm saying is that getting a paycheck doesn't automatically make one selfish and getting a big paycheck in an industry that deals with a lot of money also doesn't make one selfish. We all look out for our best interests when it comes to negotiating our salaries. That doesn't make us selfish. Selfish is a loaded word. You can call yourself selfish, but you can't call someone you don't know selfish just because they make more money than you do. And what I'm saying is that the awards do matter in terms of industry cred, but that in many cases the award nominations/wins can be affected by the tendencies of those voting bodies. Just because you don't "idolize actors" doesn't mean that them getting recognized for their work is meaningless or that wanting to see actors or projects you like being acknowledged is silly. Just because you don't care doesn't make caring about it foolish or whatever it is you seem to be implying. And if you don't care about the process, then why are you commenting on it--to show how above it all you are? To imply that it's a waste of time or energy or something. If you don't care, why point out that you don't care? Why not simply ignore a thread about something about which you claim not to care. I never said that the award show processes are perfect. All we were talking about is how and why some things get attention and whether or not the process is fair. In some respects it's tainted, but I think that for the most part all those who vote on these things are trying to vote for shows and actors they think have done worthy work. But in regard to OITNB, the category-hopping taints the process. It's like a basketball team that's unable to compete in its division going to play in another division where there are fewer competitors or weaker competitors. Not a perfect analogy, but close enough. If you can't compete against the others in your category, simply submit yourself in a category where it's easier to stand out. We were talking about how OITNB has been rewarded for category hopping, even though many in the industry think it's unfair. That's an objective issue, not a "my favorite actor/actress didn't get nominated!" whine. Even without the skewed process, perhaps Jim or the others or TBBT would not get nominated. That be disappointing for the fans--you know, those of us ignorant enough to care--but at least it would be more fair in the process. All award shows are essentially judging apples and oranges since they're not doing a direct comparison of say 3 actors performing the same role to see whose version was better. But it's still about saying that this man or woman has been doing good work, or this show is really enjoyable, etc. And no, it doesn't mean that the award show is right when it acknowledges your favorite and wrong when it doesn't. But again, we were talking about what it is that a show like the GGs values. Again you are putting your own thoughts and my thought as writing huge posts quoting mine. I don't idolize actors because they are doing their job ... as simple as that And again the rules are formulated by the awards shows itself. So if OITNB is submitted in the category and award shows who are actually giving the awards unlike you are ok with it then I don't understand why for whatever reason you don't like it or think it is skewed. You say the awards shows are affected by the tendencies of voter bodies, I just put it more crudely in one of my posts that there are a lot of politics involved. It is one the reasons I don't care much about award shows. As far as me being here , I like to post things on online forums , that is one of my hobbie You seem to consistently write long long posts when some one says they don't this , they don't like that time and time again and again. Why don't you just block them . Follow your own advice

I don't idolize anyone. I simply enjoy performances of good actors in various projects. And some are, indeed, better than others. Even if it's just their job. As a musician, I enjoy good performances. Yes, we're all just doing our job, but some musicians are better than others. And those who are really good may get paid better than others, or even win Grammy awards. No one is saying you have to like awards shows. And your opinions about them are certainly your own, but that doesn't invalidate the discussion that was going on here apart from you.
bigbangsheldon
Just disappointed we won't get to see them at the actual award show this year. That's all I care about!

kerrycec03
yea, bummed about that too. Its so fun when they are all together and the Golden Globes they would have been all at the same table. Jim might still go because of the Normal Heart
Chrismo
But if Kaley was nominated, it would be a different story, huh? I seem to recall a discussion around Emmy time when some were very displeased by Kaley's lack of recognition. The awards do carry weight in terms of what jobs/opportunities actors will get in the future. It's comparable to adding something to your resume. Probably because of the non- stop talk about Mayim. I didn't realize you knew I had a thing for Kaley. LOL. I'm not sure any of the cast members need to worry about job opportunities in the future. I don't dislike her, but I wouldn't call myself a fan of hers. No, they don't need to worry about future job opportunities. But, the point of being an actor is taking on different projects and roles to further your skills. Having various accolades attached to your name often times makes you more desirable to casting directors. Anyways, I am not bothered that Jim or Mayim were not nominated. I am disappointed that show itself wasn't nominated because they deserve it and there are shows in the comedy genre that should definitely not be there. I'm the one that has a thing for Kaley. I know you don't. In regards to the show being nominated it's the only show I watch every week and your expertise (on this) is certainly better than mine. I think BBT and Modern Family, among other network comedies, really got cheated out of being nominated by shows that are more drama focused. I am sure it is no sweat off of their back, but I feel like the show deserves an award.
3ku11
Bbt was nominated last year? Correct me if im wrong. The industry really underestimate how unique bbt is. They wont realize what a gem they had with Bbt till its over. Bbt never wan so technically its new haha. All about whats trendy not whats the best. Cable comedy shows fit the mould. Personally I think out of everyone on the show Simon and Kaley deserve an Emmy before anyone. Simon took a creepy character in danger of becoming a cariacature. Into a real person. Kaley imo is the most underestimated comedic actress on tv. Her physical expressions are second to none. Been on the show since day one, works hard. But gets overlooked every year. Mayim deserves one too, and Johnny. Heck they all do haha. I feel seeing bbt style is pure comedy no drama like the other comedies that were nominated. Was overlooked but I never want bbt compromising on its unique style just for a few awards. Edited December 11, 2014 by 3ku11

phantagrae
so they're not going to attend tonight? I can't imagine why they would if they're not nominated for anything. But someone did mention that Jim might attend for The Normal Heart. I'm probably going to watch at least part of it because David Duchovny is going to be presenting. Don't know wh they're calling on him this year, but hey...
Andy_90's_generation
what a shame, really. Season 7 was a good season, really balanced between comedy and sweet/serious moments, like i said what a shame they are not nominated. But i understand there have been others that've been snubbed too... what a bad year for GG then. I personally, don't think Jim will go.
Shamyfan
I kinda can see Jim going. He was really proud of the movie and.he worked hard on both the play and movie. I hope he goes and i hope tnh wins.

3ku11
No surprises. Golden Globes award groundbreaking, trendy shows. BBT is a long running tradational sitcom. I was so sure after "Bernadette's Song" that would get them an Emmy. But nope lol. OiTNB unfortunately is trendy, and is on Netflix. So most likely it well win, and set a bad precedence. I don't expect any of the cast to arrive. Jim may for TNH. But other then that. I find it ironical. That MF has beaten Big Bang in the Emmys 5 years in a row. Yet in an awards based on what the people want. Big Bang has beaten MF four years in a row now haha go figure. stardustmelody
Well, what did you all think? I am disappointed that "The Affair" won over "The Good Wife" which is really such a great show. I am also surprised Boyhood walked away over so many more powerful films like 'The Imitation Game" and "The Theory of Everything" both which were pretty flawless. Also, I still have an issue with putting cable/digital in the same categories as network TV and dramas in the comedy category. They so need to revamp these events. Most of all, I was finding it hard to keep paying attention when I knew there were no BBT folks there. I had not realized how much I look forward to seeing them at these things.
