Dayton Lavon Kitchens
We're far enough in that I think I can hazard an opinion but this season is arguably to me the worst of the lot. Where to begin: 1) Kaley Cuoco's new look every week. It seems to me that she is changing her hair and general look in some way almost from episode. 2) Penny without the cheesecake factory and her horrible acting career. I didn't realize how much her dead end waitress job and hugely unsuccessful acting career defined the character but it did. 3) Raj. Does the guy from India have the least thing to do now? He has a girlfriend. Big deal. 4) Sheldon. the character might have shown personal growth but his wandering in the dark for a new focus for his career has added a real element of annoyance. Just my thinking.

gsxdoug
1) That's up to make-up and wardrobe 2) Personally, I prefer her with the new job. Happier and more confident. 3) That's been Raj in just about every season, so no change there. 4) Sheldon is as annoying as he has always been. Nogravitasatall
I don't think it sucks, but it doesn't sparkle. Its got a few ks on the clock, the shine has worn off and the alignment is out, causing it to pull to the right too much. Still, there is life in the old banger. I don't think it needs a new donk, though a tune-up wouldn't go astray. Watching Sheldon get tuned up might be fun. The whole thing is headed for the garage, and is circling around the block a bit to kill time before parking. And we know where they will pull up, pretty much. Maybe they can buff it a bit to make it look shiny and new again, but 10 years is a long tine for such a vehicle. Sentimental value remains while the plasticisers have pretty much evaporated and the suspension is creaking. But not sucking. I'm happy to hang on till they get there. fitzsimmons
Okay, just to play along: 1) Penny has literally had the same hair in every single episode this season except for maybe an adornment or two (not really unusual for her character). 2) Penny's career has never defined her. We saw more of her in the Cheesecake Factory in earlier seasons but not so much in the last few because she is a character who can be interesting beyond the confines of her employment, and she has gotten some very compelling storylines this season based on her new career. She's grown as a responsible adult, she's faced relationship struggles with Leonard over their earnings, but she's still maintained the personality traits and characteristics that she's always had as a person in the face of all the change. 3) I'm not sure exactly what your complaint is here. You're bummed that he has a girlfriend? Or you think it's not enough front-and-center focus for a supporting character? Raj has had no more or less screentime or storylines this season than he ever has. 4) Sheldon hasn't been wandering around the dark for more than one episode this season. Literally by episode two he's already chosen a new field of study and has been pursuing it. So again. Not really sure what your complaint is here. It sounds like you're bummed that Sheldon doesn't spit out "bazinga" at every opportunity or that Raj is no longer mute around women or that Penny is no longer struggling to scrape by. Kind of a bummer if that's the case because long running shows like this are going to have development and growth for its characters and if you don't like it, then maybe you should watch a show that's been canceled in its first season. 5Mississippis
Completely agree. The absolute worst of all the freaking seasons. As I stand on the edge and look down at the fucking cavernous black hole and smoking, flaming wreckage, FOR ME, that is the hellish carnage that is Season 8. 1) Adored her new look and loved how it was styled for the Prom episode. But with each passing show, it seems to be getting less pixie styled and more spiky looking. Was it just this last episode (the one with parental singing Lenny -- not for certain as I watched it once and deleted the painful to watch, abysmal episode) it seemed to be styled in a young boy fashion with it slicked down the sides and a sweep of hair brought up from the crown and pulled forward with the ends sticking out over her forehead. I remember looking at it and thinking 'Ehh, WTF?' but like I said, not entirely sure because it was and will forever be only one viewing FOR ME. 2) While I am thrilled is successful, being paid well, her colleagues love her, and she's doing well in her new job, it does seem kind of bland. At least at TCF, Penny had a sort of growling hissing pissed-off-ness around her (because she hated the job) that made for snappy dialogue and fun to watch. Maybe because we haven't seen much of her work yet? Except for the dinner with Bernadette and her boss (the wonderful Stephen Root!) I think they will show us more in the remaining episodes because she has to win that trip to Hawaii and NOT take Leonard. So, good times. 3) For me, mox nix. Here, I personally do not have a dog in this fight. 4) Extremely annoying and FOR ME not funny. Really tired of the whining big baby, although I have to admit he has been written 'softer' this season. And hey! Guess what! As a very disgruntled, disenfranchised, pissed off Lenny, who is really beginning to feel that TPTB = Bev and the Lenny = young Leonard as we're being emotionally neglected by design. I can add more to your list! 5) No Lenny. Season 8 has seen the Lenny completely minimized and have been reduced to cameo appearances. Now before the chorus of 'but they're stable and happy, they're together and not fighting' begins, I know. That's NOT the point. They have had very little screen time and are acting like the least engaged couple in the history of the world. Now, my memory is faulty and I have no reference as I have deleted most of the shows after one viewing, but the only screen time they have had together so far is the Misrepresentation, Expedition, and Prom episodes. Three shows out of thirteen! Not bad! But hey! Good news! 6) TPTB, in their omniscient wisdom, will be giving us a SHENNY episode before any real Lenny episode! Yes! Fantastic! How nice! Totally looking forward to this one! It's so great that TPTB are giving such wonderful sugared nuggets to our Shenny friends! I know that they will be thrilled! 7) Parental Lenny. Again. Third time. FOR ME, painful. And Parental Lenny singing. Beyond painful. Edited February 2, 2015 by Tensor
phantagrae
This topic and the complaints listed crack me up. The short answer, and the most on point, is no. This season does not suck and certainly is not the worst ever, etc., etc.. I think the degree to which one thinks it sucks may have to do with into how narrow a box one wants to keep the show. Does the quality of the show really depend on what hairstyle Kaley/Penny has going on? Or what job she has? Or what Raj is up to? As for Sheldon, he's always had struggles with his career because of his desire for that Nobel prize, trying to come up with a big breakthrough in a field where is little that can be proved. And yet the show, in it's 8th season, continues to be funny and smart, to explore the characters' changing lives without having to add more weddings, break ups, or babies. The show has the luxury of knowing they still have two seasons to work with, so they have the luxury of exploring smaller stories.
kitlovesjim
I always come as off topic. But... Changes happen. Unexpectedly. We cannot be like Sheldon uncomfortable with the changes. The show progresses. So did the characters.. :-)

tallin
1) I don't really care about Penny's hairstyle/wardrobe, she's acting great that's what matters to me. 2) Writers don't really put effort to explore her acting career, so I don't miss it. Cheesecake factory doesn't offer much of interesting stories and I like when her character have life outside of just interacting with guys, so I like they are giving her work focused plots and showing her success. 3) Raj's character was always revolving around his problems with woman, it was one of strong basis of his character so yes, while he has a girlfriend, it's intended to be big deal. Still his character had non relationship focused plot recently. 4) Sheldon is character with big need for success, working in field, in which it's extremely hard to archive, so yes, he struggles, and will be in the future. There is more comedic potential for writers with someone struggling, than in pure success after all... While I understand your complains premise was till the very beginning was to show development and changes. Penny moves across the hall and we are seeing how it affects (change) life of guys. I even think some changes are inevitable for show in it's eight season to keep it's fresh, interesting tone. I think writers are doing very good job, and this season is far from worst for me. Just my opinion ... Edited February 2, 2015 by tallin
legacy99
I've watched every episode of seasons 1-7 at least 30 to 40 times this season I haven't watched a single rerun of season 8. Don't find them funny at all. Plus Sheldon is just so much more annoying than past seasons I think the writers have pushed him pass being funny Sent from my XT1056 using Tapatalk
kerrycec03
Well....do I think this is the best overall season...No.....Do I think its the best season for a certain ship Yes.... I am still a big fan of season 5. While this season has by far had the most romance for my particular ship I do find some of the comedy has been lacking and also I really want a group episode badly. Now, personally I don't like to make such a statement until the full season is over. We know they pull out their bag of tricks towards the end of a season and we are heading into the home stretch and a lot could still occur. Also, this might be the most "deeper" season as they are dealing with the Mrs. W storyline which they have never had to tackle something like that before. That really wouldn't provide the silliness we saw in earlier seasons.

We already had some good episode, some very good but also so bad/mediocre ones. Just try to enjoy each episode, even if I dislike an episode, I will still look forward to the next one. Enrico Fermi
I don't think it sucks, but it's not especially great, either. 1) It would be hard for me to care less about Kaley's/Penny's hairstyle. 2) I miss the Cheesecake Factory set and the potential for funny stories from Penny being a struggling actress. I don't particularly care if any of the characters "grow" or succeed, I just want whatever is happening to be entertaining. 3) I'm fine with Raj's role. The mutism thing was stretched out to its very limit, so what he's doing now makes sense. I don't care about whatever he's doing professionally, much like Leonard. 4) I'm cool with Sheldon having a professional crisis. He defines himself by his intellect and scientific accomplishments, so it's kind of fun to see him knocked down a peg for the moment. It's a better story than his relationship with Amy. 3ku11
Please if Season One was Season 8 NO ONE would be watching. It would have gotten stagnant. I keep returning because of it ever changing. Penny's hair changing? She's had the same hair all season, and even if she has changed her hair who the heck cares lol. Problem is traditional fans want it both ways. You complain about the show now, but if it was still like Season 3 most likely you would be hearing gone stale. And I don't think you can class it a bad season soley based on Lenny being diminished who cares lol, they are engaged and in love. Apart from a few lines they are giving Penny to diminish Leonard. I thin the reaction is getting riduclous to Lenny. They are portrayed every time in scenes and solid and in love. Would it be nice if they gave fans more? Sure but status quo has changed. 1. Penny has grown up so much, her outlook and personality has completely changed. So she is working hard to offer something to their relationship. How exactly would be working as a waitress and struggling as an actress work when she is pushing 30? 2. Show is more relationship and career centric now. But people only miss early years as its nostalgic. But it's not original anymore.

Kasey
I don't think this is the worst season but wouldn't say it's the best thus far. I think that when anything starts to change, it creates ripple effects that not everyone likes. I think Penny's change in hairstyle and wardrobe is a direct reflection on her confidence at getting a job that she is good at and is appreciated. The financial independence doesn't hurt either in expanding her look. I don't quite know the original poster's problem with Raj. I will say that he is sometimes underused more so than Howardette. I'm actually liking Sheldon a bit more this season at times (shocking I know). But I also have to say that I'm getting tired of his IMHO flip flopping between growth and remaining an infant. Feeling a little bit sad at the lack of significant Lenny. I know the subtleties are cute but I would like to not have to watch without a magnifying glass if you know what I mean. Finally I would say that every season has it good and bad episodes but that does not negate the love I have for this show in the long run... Chrismo
Just my thinking.I agree with worst season part but not for the same reasons. 1 and 2 I disagree with . Really haven 't noticed her changing look and she needed a new career. 3 and 4 I can't disagree with. Need more Emily on the show. Raj's involvement with the show has become less than ever. In regards to Sheldon's annoyance it has become worse with his"career" focus but also his appearance in general espicially involving Lenny's life is even more annoying. I can see Sheldon fans(and Shamy fans) being happy as pigs in shit because the whole season has revolved around him. For Lenny fans in general while there has been no break ups or major battles there also been no "A" story lines either. Their Mommy and Daddy role for Sheldon has also beaten to death. The Hello Kitty duet was an all new low. Could the season be saved and my opinion change? Yes. As of right now though IMO this has been the worst season. Dayton Lavon Kitchens
Looking at the replies in this thread I think some of my opinions are more based on disappointment. We basically ended the season last year with Raj getting a girlfriend and biggest of all, Penny and Leonard agreeing to get married. The "Leonard & Penny commit to marriage" is probably the Holy Grail for the series. It is basically the centerpiece of what was set up for 7 years. Something like that should be causing not only massive changes with them but also serious ripple effects through the whole group dynamic. Instead it seems like as Sheldon likes to say "homeostasis". Everything has settled into a "new normal" Sure this series has probably little more than two seasons left to run now (I can't see another renewal after Season 10), but now is the time to experiment and try some really new stuff. Still think it would be one heck of a thing if Sheldon kicked it into high gear with Amy and she and Sheldon actually beat Penny and Leonard to the altar. Imagine Sheldon as a husband. Imagine Amy having to get used to his quirks EVERY day and not just on their periodic dates. Imagine a Sheldon that discovered he loved sex! Even more than Amy. Even more than Amy ever dreamed of. Even more than Amy can stand.................
