Interesting term I've never heard before, but then again, this forum has been extremely helpful in expanding my vocabulary.   Until a couple of days ago, I didn't know what a red herring was.

"she can't half drink"

What exactly does that mean?  Is it similar to you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink?

Hello!  I was wondering if I could get some ideas from you guys.  My current story is pretty dark, but that's ok, I got big plans for that story.  I want to try my hand at a happy (shocking!) one-shot.  But I'm out of ideas.  Do you guys have any ideas that you'd like to see in a one-shot (happy stories) I'll do my best!

Did you want to tackle Shamy going ice skating together with Sheldon on the sidelines Googling hypothermia.   Maybe you can come up with something positive to tie in there that Amy remembers using her scarf as a reference and how Sheldon ended up with it to return to her.

I'd give it a try if I weren't trying to finish the last two chapters of my current story.

Hi Jenafan,  I ended up going with another idea, and I posted my one shot story on it a couple days ago called:  The Cooking Class Catastrophe.  Your idea sounds great though, I hope you'll tackle it when you are done your longer story!  Take Care!

No. It means "that woman can really drink", as in, she can consume copious amounts, albeit getting seriously drunk in the process.

All right, here is another question for you wonderful FF experts out there, and I appreciate everyone's assistance.

Do my followers get an update notice whenever I make a change to a previously published chapter?      I've been reading FF references and brushing up on grammatical and punctuation guidelines in dialogue to try to improve my writing.  I hope readers don't get update notices, because even with a beta reader, I continuously find spelling and grammatical errors and feel the need to go back and fix them (a little OCD on my part), and don't want to drive them crazy.   Along with making corrections, sometimes I feel the need to add to or change a minor detail in a previous chapter, to the benefit of those who have not read the story, yet.

On the other hand, Chapter 10 of my latest story was supposed to be the end.  After publishing, some readers requested I continue my story, and I've decided to do so.   As such, I went back and reworked Chapter 10 to add more detail and revise the ending to be conducive to a continuation.   In this case, an update notice to the followers would be in order.   However, I figured that when I write Chapter 11, I can advise the reader to revisit Chapter 10 in my A/N.

It seems writing FF has become my new hobby, and I want to continuously make improvements to the way I write and my understanding of its effect on the FF community.

Also, as I love getting reviews, I see the need for me to step up in giving reviews to others.  I just love picking up my mobile phone to see that another review has been submitted.   It is exhilarating.

Thoughts and suggestions, please?

I'm following your story and never received an update notice for previously posted chapters. I think that FF only sends them for new chapters.

I'm excited that you're continuing the story! It felt complete to me as is with the last chapter but now you have me curious about what you're doing.

Once that writing bug bites, it becomes addictive. Welcome to the dark side. ;-)

Thank you.  Your enjoyment of my story and positive reviews are part of the bug that has turned me into a writing monster and FF fan.  :fan:

No, they don't.

I often tweak my chapters, after I've published them (spelling mistakes, missing words and punctuation, etc.) and I don't get the notification.

I also, on one occasion, pointed out to a fellow author, that Amy's apartment is on the 3rd floor, and not, as they had written, the 4th floor, and they modified the chapter, but, again, I didn't receive a second notification.

It seems writing FF has become my new hobby

Mine too. :icon_biggrin:

... It is exhilarating.

It is, isn't it?

OTOH, it can be frustrating to see lots of people following/favoriting your stories, but not posting a review.

Going back to fanfic questions, is there a particular name, for the lightweight, two tone, jacket Sheldon wears, om his date night, in Indecision Amalgamation?

To the first question, I agree.  I have a lot more followers and people who have favored me over those who have reviewed me, and some reviewers have been gracious enough to review each chapter.   It's still a compliment to be followed, even if no review is left.     I think in a world where everyone wants a review, survey, etc, (at least here in the USA), people are tired and just don't bother.

Regarding Sheldon's jacket, I've read it described as a golf jacket, and the bag he carries as a messenger bag rather than a laptop bag.

OK, i'll go with windbreaker, which, to quote Bernadette "sounds dirty, but I didn’t mean it that way". :icon_biggrin:

I like the sound of windbreaker, too.   Below is the article where I came up with the golf jacket:

http://www.tvstyleguide.com/big-bang-theory/how-to-dress-like-dr-sheldon-cooper/

The article is wrong, because Sheldon actually has two jackets.   A light and dark colored one.

If you are joking, I don't get it.

I'm not joking about windcheater. That's a perfectly correct, English name, for a wind proof jacket.

As for "sounds dirty, but I didn’t mean it that way", in England, the term "windbreaker" can refer to a flatulent person, who has to/chooses to release his/her flatulence.

Think of Leonard, after he's eaten Shepherds pie and frozen yogurt. :icon_biggrin:

OMG, that is so funny how even with the English language the definition can be so different between England and USA.

Given your definition of a windbreaker, I like the golf jacket or windcheater term better.  Just keep in mind to a reader in the USA, windcheater is going to sound strange.   The term is not known here.
