Shel_Ra_Ho_Le Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 After weeks of trying, I finally succeeded! I am going to see our show live on Feb 17th and I can't even explain my excitement. It's been since 02 since I've seen a live taping so its long overdue! Plus it's been four years since I've had a vacation, yet another thing overdue! Expect a full report when I return! I am known for my taping summaries. :D
trainspotter Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 That's awesome! I've been trying to get tickets also, but still no luck. Any tips?
white_knight Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 that's great, the thing that I wonder mostly is if you get to see the taping of the entire episode or just a few scenes? or for how long will you be there? what you do in the beginning and at the end? and if spoilers and intel aside from the taping it would be great thing to know, even if it is by a private message jejejeje.Congratulations for being able to go to the taping. Shannon Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Hey Krys I'm so excited for you hun! You're gonna have a blast! that's great, the thing that I wonder mostly is if you get to see the taping of the entire episode or just a few scenes? or for how long will you be there? what you do in the beginning and at the end? and if spoilers and intel aside from the taping it would be great thing to know, even if it is by a private message jejejeje.Congratulations for being able to go to the taping. I've been to 3 tapings of the show (episodes 2.22, 3.2, and 3.10) and actually going to my 4th taping next week on Tuesday So I've gone enough to be able to answer those questions in other words! When you see a taping you see the entire episode taped and they film it in order how you see it on the episode from start to finish that way us in the audience do not get confused as to the storyline. The tapings start at 6:30pm and usually last about 3 hours (yes it takes 3 hours to tape a show with less than 30 min run time haha) so we get out a little before 10pm. At tapings since tickets do not guarantee you will actually get in you do need to show up a couple hours early or you will not get in. Once you finally are done with the check in process they take you back in groups and you basically follow the leader around the Warner Brothers studio backlot until you get to stage 25 which is the studio the show tapes on After going through more security checks you are told where to sit (being first in line doesnt mean you get the best seats...its random how they seat you). About 30 minutes before the taping starts we watch on the tv screens above us the episode that will air before the one we watched taped (usually its the episode that they taped just last week). So in other words, we get to see 2 new episodes (one we watch on tv and the other being the one we see taped of course). Once we finish watching the episode on the tv's, the MC guy who "entertains" us in the audience the entire time and also directs us as to what to do in situations (like reminding us to laugh even though we've already seen the scene every time before they say "action"), will introduce the cast one by one and they basically just wave to us and then take their place either on stage or backstage if they will not be in the scene. From then on we watch the episode taped in order. We see everything except sometimes at a taping there might be 1 scene they pre-taped the day before for various reasons (its always a very short scene though...no longer than 1 min long) and we watch it on the tv screens so they can record our laughter. Throughout the taping music is constantly being played every time they yell "cut" (they actually have a DJ in the back who is playing the music) and the cast can sometimes be seen dancing to it while on stage About an hour or two into the taping the audience is given pizza and water free of charge so we don't go hungry or thirsty. Anyways during tapings very often we watch a scene anywhere from just 1 take to as many as 6 times....it various a lot but the average I'd say is 3 takes a scene. Several times the writers will have the actors try different lines just to see which line goes over the best with us and/or works simply better for the scene. When the taping is over the cast has a final curtain call one by one and all stand together on stage waving goodbye to us. The end of taping, if you go down to the rail you can try to get autographs from the cast. Every single taping is different as to how that goes though....sometimes you might not be able to get any and sometimes you can luck out and get them all to sign something (luckily that happened to me once)! FYI Kunal signs the most by far and spends a long time signing for as many people as he can. So yeah overall its a really fun thing to do and even better is thats its free haha. It's definitely a lot harder now though to get tickets....quite difficult anymore to be honest, but still possible if you are persistent enough

That's trully great Shannon! Thanks a lot really a lot to tell me how it is and the process and details, what you get to do, see how it all goes through, I really want to go and try to get tickets when time allows it and you already have gone to 4!!!! now that's luck!!! I don't know, but I'm sure that if you go to las vegas you can win a lot too!! :D Really thanks for all this info, I was particular curious because long time ago, though I don't remember how long it was, I manage to go to the taping of the "mickey mouse club" lol yep, in orlando and that taping was really short and it was just the music number not the entire episode, we didn't get to talk, or wave or any autographs from the cast just the shouting and the applause, though at that time my goal of watching Jennifer Mcgill live in person or at least closer than the tv was accomplished, that's why I wanted to know if it would've been the same case going to a BBT taping. They should also have some sort of tourney or challanges with the fans for ping pong, that would be a good idea between the taping. So any spoiler would be welcome, one thing is knowing what its gonna happen and visualize it and another thing is when one actually see it and say: "it was the way I thought" "I didn't thought it was gonna be like that" that's why I can deal with the spoilers jejeje. Shannon Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Really thanks for all this info, I was particular curious because long time ago, though I don't remember how long it was, I manage to go to the taping of the "mickey mouse club" lol yep, in orlando and that taping was really short and it was just the music number not the entire episode, we didn't get to talk, or wave or any autographs from the cast just the shouting and the applause, though at that time my goal of watching Jennifer Mcgill live in person or at least closer than the tv was accomplished, that's why I wanted to know if it would've been the same case going to a BBT taping. They should also have some sort of tourney or challanges with the fans for ping pong, that would be a good idea between the taping. Have fun next tuesday! No problem. I know how helpful it is to know more about something especially something you are interested in doing. Yeah I try to go every couple months to a show....I know due to the popularity of it that by season 5 it might be impossible to get tickets at all so I'm trying to go while I still can but at the same time, I couldn't and wouldn't want to go more than every so often to be honest (the MC is really quite annoying after you've heard him more than once because he has the same act every show). There is one girl I know though who has gone to every single taping this season....I think thats a bit crazy and selfish knowing how many people want to go to tapings, but that's just my own personal opinion on that. I don't see how she is able to even get tickets to every taping (it took me 3 weeks of trying to get tickets for next week) but I did overhear her at the last taping I went to that she can show up w/o tickets and they'll let her in just because she comes every week......again I personally don't think thats a fair system....but thats up to them. But yeah they tape it completely in order and you see everything minus maybe 1 short clip. The last taping I went to though the short clip they pre-taped was a scene with Bernadette leaving Wolowitz on the porch there if you remember that scene in "The Gorilla Experiment." Taping was almost done and the MC told us that the writers wanted to try re-shooting that scene with us in the audience there to try some different lines so they had the actors go get dressed into their wardrobe again and they tried about 4 different lines (a different one each take). The writers are listening very carefully and constantly re-writing which is really cool to see in other words. As far as the autographs, it depends on what night you go and how the actors are feeling, but you can usually get at least 1. Jim Parsons is by far the most difficult to get a hold of though because he is of course incredibly popular and gets a bit mobbed so he tends to just go backstage right away, but I did luck out 1 time though and he stuck around long enough to sign 3 autographs including one for myself....I was very happy needless to say The cast are all really sweet because they really don't have to sign any at all. The audience unlimited staff is overall pretty cool about letting you stick around for about 10-15 minutes trying to get autographs before then you are told to leave for the night. haha I would loooove to see them play ping pong but they keep that backstage so we can't see it Also tape night is fun, but the actors are working and not playing at that time so ping pong would be a huge distraction even though yes it would be fun to watch! And thanks! I hope the weather improves by Tuesday because southern CA has just been having some tough weather lately and would not like having to sit in the cold parking structure in line when its really cold! I'm second guessing my trip out there from NY if tickets don't even guarantee entry, though. Of course, I don't even have tickets yet... If you show up a couple hours early then you will get in okay. It's really not a bad wait if you come prepared with your ipod or whatever. But yes your tickets do not guarantee you will get in. The first time I went to a taping last season I showed up at the time the ticket said to show up and I barely got in....we were the last people let in and didnt get seated until right in the middle of the cast introductions. There were about 30 people behind us in line that did not get into the taping. If you don't get in you are given a little slip of paper and the next time you are able to get tickets to a show you are given priority to make certain you get into that show you have tickets for. But yeah there are a lot of "VIP's" and honestly that does get annoying because they can show up whenever they want which is usually hours after we've been waiting in line and they are let in first and they get all the assigned first 4 rows of seating. The taping has seats for around 220 people and the number of VIP's can vary, but I've gone to a taping with as many as 150 VIP's....so in other words only about 70 of us were actually let in who were not VIP's. Each taping there are 30-40 people turned away with tickets....I think the number should not be that many personally because a lot of people are travelling far and wasting their own money/gas/etc. and taken time off work and the show is so popular that the chances are high most w/tickets are showing up and I don't think any more than 10 should be turned away at shows....but thats just my opinion. Also....there are some people who of course in line save for their friends who don't show up till much later and that's of course annoying as well. The taping I almost didn't get into, I got stuck behind 2 guys who ended up saving for about 10 of their friends who showed up just before check in time....saving is just rude to do, but there's nothing you can do about it if they show up before check in time (during check in around 5:15ish the staff mark on your tickets a number which indicates your spot in line). So overall in other words if you are persistent enough to get the tickets you have to know you have to also be prepared to be persistent the actual day of taping too....if you are, then you'll be fine to get in, but you can't show up for a 6:30 taping at 4:00 and expect to get in. Not gonna happen.
Steve Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Hey, Shannon! I'm extremely jealous of anyone who has had a chance to attend a taping. Living in the wilds of Michigan as I do, attending a taping of the show sounds like some sort of fantasy dream. I'd like to include your notes in our TBBT wiki, if you wouldn't mind. May I have your permission for that? Also, if you have any specific notes about the episodes you've watched filming -- things like on-set changes to scenes or other interesting observations -- can you share them in the Notes section of the wiki pages for those episodes? Those kinds of details are so interesting for fans. Steve TBBT Wiki Project Another question: After you attend a taping, are you allowed to tell us the name and number of the episode? Or are you not allowed to share that kind of thing? Steve
SmartbutSlow Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 You all go to live tappings? Is that in Los Angeles? All you people live in Los Angeles ? Now, I'm jealous. All I get to do here in Honolulu is run into Dog the Bounty Hunter's gang and tons of trucks filming LOST.

Or are you not allowed to share that kind of thing? Steve Hey Steve. Sure anything that I wrote that you find interesting about the taping itself you are certainly allowed to put on the TBBT wiki. Thanks for asking. As far as any specific notes about the episodes, so much happens that I'd really have to think back. I write up a taping report on the fan forum spoilers site the night I get home from a taping when it's fresh in my head and I know the Sheldon/Penny live journal community usually has one up each week or every other week (just have to be a member there to read those) where you can get great details about the tapings. As far as on set changes, when you are in the audience looking down at the set from left to right this is what you see: the cafeteria, penny's apartment, the hallway/stairs, leonard and sheldon's apartment, and the far right is one of the swing sets (swings sets are the sets that change frequently and usually most often the swing sets are places like the comic book shop, one of the guys' bedrooms, etc.). Any other additional rooms needed for taping will be shot out of our view to the very left or very right of the audience. For the stair shots it's what you likely expect....the hallway is the same no matter if they are on their 4th floor or the 3rd floor....it's just slight set decoration changes like the numbers on the door, what caution tape/sign they put on the elevator, and maybe a potted plant or whatever to change it up. At tapings when you go to your seat you have a pamphlet waiting for you that names the show, date of the taping, episode title, cast, and guest stars which you can take home. Here's a pic of what that looks like: And no we are not discouraged in any way from talking about the taping or the episode.
Steve Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Thanks, Shannon! I've created a page on the wiki where I copied some of your comments. I'll add what you wrote above as well. Great stuff! I need to find the spoiler forum you mentioned to read more. Steve
Shel_Ra_Ho_Le Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 I am going just to see the show. I will not seek for autographs or try to meet the cast afterwards. I used to do that all the time but I just want to enjoy and let what happens happen. I have absolutely no expectations other than being able to get in. :D

Jan Congrats on getting tickets Jan You'll have a really good time and glad you found the info helpful. Every taping is different, but I highly recommend you get there no later than 2-2:30 pm to guarantee you'll get in w/no worries. Sure you might still get in if you show up after, but its a risk you take and since you're coming from far it's really worth it to you to just bring some food and stuff to keep you busy for a couple hours in line. I went to my my last taping last month and I got there at about 1:15 and I was the 11th person in line.

BradC Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 I was also at the taping last night with my wife. We had a blast, this is one of the funniest episodes yet. I got to bed at about 11 last night and got up this morning at 4:30 for work but it was totally worth it. I remember a lot of good lines from the episode, I wrote up a summary this morning (more for myself than anything) and plan to flesh it out as much as I can. The two pre-taped scenes aren't sticking in my memory as well because we only saw them once. But with all the repetition of the live scenes, I remember a lot of thoseblines (including some of the altrernates.)
