Bill Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 For example, if the big bang theory do not have Indian Raj, or Jewish Howard, I think the series will lose a lot of fun. If we can add more multicultural element in this series, like a Japanese, Chnese or Korean charactor in the next season, this will be more interested. If we can add more multicultural element in this series, like a Japanese, Chnese or Korean charactor in the next season, this will be more interested. But they will have Raj and Howard. The actors are signed through season 10, just like everyone else in the cast.
phantagrae Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 THey would only add another character, whatever flavor he or she might be, if that character served a purpose in the storytelling. So far the only characters they've added as regulars were the girlfriends, along with having more Stuart as a recurring character. If there were a need for such a character, one could be added, but it would never be another regular, like the main cast. And I would sincerely hope they wouldn't add another character just to pay lip service to some kind of racial quota.
fitzsimmons Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 But they will have Raj and Howard. The actors are signed through season 10, just like everyone else in the cast. I think the point is that the show is fun in part because those characters add a diverse cultural element. Not that there's a fear of losing them, just that their presence already adds something to the show, and some more cultural diversity as yet unrepresented on the show would be beneficial. I agree that media representation of minorities is seriously lacking and it's always nice to have well-rounded characters represent those minorities, rather than single-sided stereotypes that are there for comic relief. However, I'm not sure if the ninth season of a show with an already large ensemble cast is the place to introduce that. If they did, I wouldn't complain. But I don't see the show taking on any new major characters any time soon when they've already got a strong main cast of seven and several supporting characters who are regularly utilized. The point I was answering was the comment "If the big bang theory do not have Indian Raj, or Jewish Howard, I think the series will lose a lot of fun." If just sounded like the OP thought Raj and Howard were leaving.

Cereal Apist Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 There's already a Chinese character on the show. On Penny's right buttock.
The Mushroom Log Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 We've already had a few Asian characters on the show, although none of them were really recurring. Just off the top of my head:- Dennis Kim (1x12, 'The Jerusalem Duality')- Joyce Kim (3x22, 'The Staircase Implementation')- Sheldon's previous roommate (3x22, 'The Staircase Implementation')- Chinese restaurant manager (1x7, 'The Dumpling Paradox' and 1x17, 'The Tangerine Factor'). It's too late to introduce any more main characters. At best, we'd get a new recurring although even that's leaving it a bit late... nibbler747 Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I DEMAND LIP SERVICE!!! Just kidding. I like the show how it is, wouldn't change a thing. I don't think they should cast just to fill a racial quota. In general though, it's nice to see more minorities popping up, where there used to be none at all. Just shows that our society is increasingly multicultural. In my case:Kunal Nayyar - BBTMindy Kaling - The Mindy Project/The Office (sadly not on air anymore)Aziz Ansari - Parks and RecKal Penn - HouseNaveen Andrews - LostSendhil Ramamurthy - Heroes (Swoon Swoon!!) When I was a kid...unheard of! I just had good old Apu...
