The inconsistency of the Hofstadter's financial situation is one of the glaring faults in the show.   Leonard helps Penny financially all through the time he dates her, even buying her a car when she needs it and she is always broke.  After they get engaged, she gets a great job, makes twice as much as him, offers him a loan and has to have a guy to manage her money, and now Leonard is broke and has huge student loan debt.  Now that they are married, Penny has huge credit card debt and has to keep her high paying job to pay it off, while Leonard has a secret bank account.  None of this makes any sense, in the show.

The writers also really have not told us exactly  how much Leonard and Penny actually make at there jobs or how much debt each of them brought in to the marriage but in the long run those details don't really matter and the money Penny got for selling the car seems to have disappeared unless that's what's in the secret bank account but that was supposed in to go in to a joint savings account I guess we will find out when the episode airs

On the episode when Leonard tells penny the he received a government grant to see if lasers could shoot incoming ballistic missiles, he did tell penny money was pretty good. So based on that, leonard must make a decent salary.  I suspect his father might help them out.  makes no sense for penny to have her own appertment if she lives with her husband in his own place.

Same here! I always wondered that too -- what the actors thought about the ceremony we were given. If you look to the comments sections of any of the social media sites, the viewers who felt inclined to voice an opinion about it do seem to have overwhelmingly negative ones in various degrees about Leonard's and Penny's wedding. I think that TPTB must be aware of this but I think the true measure is how much do they really care about these responses and the seemingly overall viewer dissatisfaction associated with this event.  

This is a little blurb from The Hollywood Reporter from February, 2016 that came out at the time of the 200th episode. And although he doesn't slam the wedding directly, it seems that Johnny would be agreeable for a wedding re-do. 

A Formal Ceremony?

Leonard's mother (returning guest star Christine Baranski) seems to be a little bit miffed that her son eloped and deprived her of a formal wedding. As it happens, that's something that Galecki hopes the series rectifies for Leonard and Penny. "I wonder if they might have some sort of ceremony for their nuptials since they went off on their own," he says. "I think they might regret that. I hope that's the case. I'd like to see their best friends and family celebrate them. Not necessarily a wedding episode because how many times have we seen that but some sort of ceremony."

I can only recall one occasion where the actors said they didn't like a storyline (Johnny & Simon saying they got angry over Penny/Raj). But I'm guessing they're keeping those thoughts to themselves overall in order to not offend the writers. I agree that Johnny and Kaley can't possibly be happy with that wedding, though. And I think Johnny's quote above was the polite version of saying it.

I just re-watched 1x01 - 1x05 for the millionth time and fell in love with Lenny all over again. I really do love watching the nerd + popular girl.

Most of you fellow lennies might know, but I was reading an interview by steve molenaro where he says, no plans for a formal lenny wedding as of yet. So hope there is hope still; On the interview even johnny galecki was surprised their friends were not present.

I remember them saying that they were surprised about the wedding in general when they got the script for the episode.

I do recall reading that johnny was not happy at all with penny/raj intimate situation in bed. As a lenny, I felt I was watching a twight light zone moment when I saw that, saddest part was leonard reaction to it; he was crushed. Now I recall, I think hearing kaley saying that johnny got upset about the penny/raj intimate moment. We all know nothing happen between penny snd raj.

I agree, I like penny as a pharma sells rep, the possibilities are enormous financially speaking. Pharmaceutical drugs command large fees/commissions; so penny can make substantial income.

Fellow lennies, anyone foresees a big lenny moment for s9 finale? a good moment of course, leonard surprises penny with something she always wanted, she throws into herself into Leonard's arms with happiness.

I don't know, the elephant in 4A is Leonard and Penny, maybe them moving out will be the cliffhanger, they could leave us with a will they or won't they move out for the beginning of Season 10.  Leonard's could give them some fatherly advice like the reason they split up was because they spent so little time together, so Leonard and Penny need more alone time for their marriage to flourish.

You are right Tensor, cliffhangers are a tough one to decipher, I hope the writers don't bring a mandy angle again; that was uncallef for, for lenny. It is something good regarding our favorite couple. :-)

Oh man, this cliffhanger thing is giving  me some uneasiness. For sure must relate lennys living arrangements.

I think they're through with Mandy, but I fully expect some other off the wall conflict between them. It's what the writers like to do.   We've had very few of the sweet episodes, like "Proton" (all three) or Leonard's trip to the dirty store, over the last few years.  It would be great to see more of those type for our favorite couple.

This secret bank account might be more of a trouble thing for leonard than he expected.  Seems she did take it too kindly, she does have a short temper so Leonard must be ready for not so nice spontaneous reaction from penny. When is Leonard learning that he must not do things in secret from penny. :-) she loves him to death but just don't have secret bank accounts.

I think the secret bank account was just a way for Penny to open up about her own secret, she is not happy with her job.  I think we will see more about that in the future, maybe even before the end of the season.  

Do we know for sure that the cliffhanger involves the Hofstadters?  Maybe it will be a pregnancy scare for Amy or something else.
