[Spoiler Free] Shamy: Season 9

I actually didn't want to comment originally because I'm one of the many who didn't like the episode. Also, the Shenny closeness is already irritating me haha pardon. But I'm not only a Shamy shipper I'm also as a Lenny shipper. I'm so mad at the writers right now. Not only did they invalidated the Little Lady endearment to Amy (Sheldon called Bernadette that), he also called Penny "babe" once. Haha, so irritating. I really wanted to comment here to spark some sort of discussion, but the only discussion I think I would inspire is pretty negative. Even while reading fan-fics, I say ah BS!, Sheldon is never gonna be that sweet or kind.

I re-watched the last episode to try and find any redeeming qualities but the only good thing I ever saw was this:

GIF.gif Somebody not treating Amy like crap.

I'm not sure what the point of last week's episode was. Sheldon had come a long way, now he's reverting back to his old ways? The only thing I can come up with is the writers are doing this so that when he proposes, we won't see it coming. Kind of like after The Platonic Permutation when we (or at least I) was losing hope that they'd get back together, then the next episode they reunited.

I agree that it will be nice to wander outside of the spoiler free isolation zone at last and see some more discussions and speculations. I’m hoping to find some good fanfic to read from this season because I’ve been avoiding all of those to stay spoiler free as well.

I have mixed feelings about last week’s episode.

Likes:

  • It mentions a wedding celebration for Lenny which we might get to see.

  • Sheldon’s strict adherence to the rules about lines felt like classic behavior from him, and I’m happy to see them keep some of his quirkier, less likable traits. It’s part of what makes him distinctive. This also provided a reminder of why Amy is frustrated by him at times.

  • Stuart as a go-between was a unique way to insert humor into the situation.
  • I enjoyed the fact that Beverly seemed to get along with Amy right away.

Dislikes:

  • Shamy drama isn’t what I was hoping for near the end of the season.
  • The line confrontation wasn’t funny to me, probably because the second-hand embarrassment/cringe factor was too high, and it went on for too long.
  • I don’t want a rehash of Sheldon being completely oblivious to Amy’s wants and needs in their relationship.

Having said that, Amy really should have told Sheldon that his action hurt her feelings because he most likely thought that she was just mad. He’s not going to figure out her thoughts/emotions if she doesn’t tell him. For what it’s worth, I don’t think that he chose the movie/line over her. I think he preferred a movie over shopping, and he didn’t want to break what he considers to be the strict, absolute rules of line etiquette.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we get some good stuff for the finale!

These were my favorite parts of last week's show.  Kevin Sussman is hilarious as Stuart.  I haven't liked Beverly much in the past, but I thought she was a lot more likeable in this episode.

This.

I know the apology was rushed as the whole plot was Sheldon rushing to get back to the line but it would have been more powerful in my view if Amy had perhaps talked to him in the hall and told him that she accepted his apology but he should have told her he didn't want to go shopping in the first place and they both needed to communicate better.

That's looking at it from a Shamy perspective only, it's clear that the writers thought the line drama and rushed apology had more comedic merit.

I'm interested in hearing what everyone's favorite Shamy moments have been so far this season.

Some of mine are:

- Sheldon realizing he needs Amy in his life

- the long kiss in Earworm and Amy kicking the door shut on Dave

- the whole coitus episode

- Sheldon naming a comet after Amy

- bed Skyping

- Sheldon telling Amy his hoarding secret; I love how she's the only one who knows

- Shamy all cute playing Never Have I Ever

Amy’s instantaneous, nonchalant forgiveness of his rushed apology was surprising, and I would’ve preferred some kind of conversation, but perhaps you’re right that it was a concession to comedy. Maybe his gesture of leaving the line and coming to apologize to her at the risk of missing the movie was enough to reassure her of how important she is to him? I don’t think he’d have cared enough to do that kind of thing for anyone else, and Amy probably knows that.

This is a great list! The only thing I can think of to add is the Thanksgiving episode when Amy realized that Sheldon is the one she wants, quirky imperfections and all.

I do like the fact that Sheldon apologized to Amy in person and didn't wait until after the movie.  That does show some progress.  I agree that they really should have had talked more and that Amy would have understood if Sheldon just talked to her rather than sending Stuart without an explanation.  Of course, then we wouldn't have seen Kevin Sussman's comedic performance.

I really don't think Sheldon's reason for going to the movie rather than going shopping with Amy was because he didn't want to spend time with her.  The two events just happened to coincide.  Had the other guys not have gone to the movie, it sounds like Sheldon was still planning on being with Amy.

I think it's possible that she just calmed down a bit and perhaps talking to Beverly helped with that. It was clear that when Stuart first got in the car her immediate reaction was that Sheldon just didn't want to spend time with her but that shifted to he just didn't want to go shopping so perhaps it felt less of a personal snub.

I also think that she acknowledged that she wasn't blameless especially when she used Stuart as well. The line where she says 'we got back into our old bad pattern' as opposed to 'Sheldon has got back into his old bad pattern' is telling. Maybe that was why she wanted to draw a line under it so quickly.

The line she said to Beverly about worrying they were getting into communication problems again and not being honest with each other was the sort of line she should have said to Sheldon in my opinion. Sheldon may have been even more conciliatory had he knew what Amy had told Beverly and that she was a little bit worried, but then then the joke was Sheldon was in a rush.

I agree, Stuart was hilarious and I really loved Amy and Beverly. They were the highlights of the episode. The line confrontation was obviously there because they needed to fill up the episode somehow.

I also agree that it would have been better if the penultimate episode of the season was drama-free for Shamy. I don't have a problem with the occasional conflict but I think that this episode should have come earlier in the season. I could find believable the notion that amidst all the progress something like this would happen (as a one-time thing) but it just feels underwhelming towards the end.

But anyway, IMO this storyline had some interesting parts. I quite liked that Amy acknowledged that they were going back to their old patterns, which by extension means that the writers were aware of what Sheldon's actions meant. I also liked Beverly's remarks about Amy and her relationship with Sheldon. She was very supportive of her.

Oh, and I completely agree that Sheldon just preferred a movie to shopping.

This is also what I took from the episode, that it was enough for her. She looked satisfied when she said "fine" (to me, at least).

I hope that when Sheldon said "It will never be repeated and that's a promise" (or something, I can never remember anything about this show) he meant it. If he did and this was the last time such a thing happened, something good will have come out of this episode.

Yay I love seeing many new posts in here. For a spit second I thought I had accidentally went to the spoiler thread. haha

My favorite Shamy moment this season has to be the earworm make out, specifically when she pulls him back in for another kiss. That moment blew me away, it was incredible.

Another moment that I really "liked" was when Lenny find out about the ring and Sheldon yells that he is fine. The look on his face is the kind of Sheldon I was hoping to see from the break up, heartbroken.

Let's see...

1. Shamy's scenes in Platonic (especially the car ride and the actual aquarium).

2. When Shendon goes to Amy's apt in Earworm.

3. Their scenes in Opening Night.

4. "I miss you" in Sales Call.

5. FwF and the tag.

6. Their scenes in Solder.

7. The tag in Big Bear.

8. Their brief interaction in Fermentation.

I'm really happy to see lots of posts here! It has been quiet lately because there isn't much for Shamy after the Opening Night episode, I guess?

So on with the list...

- re-emergence of the ring in The Spock Resonance. I love how Sheldon is so in denial about how hurt he is; it becomes more obvious how he really feels for Amy.
- the long kiss in the Earworm episode
- Opening Night's deep Shamy kiss on the couch just gives me goosebumps. The Earworm kiss is just ugh-mazing! but this is just different, especially when Sheldon tilts his head while doing so.
- well, the coitus itself
- Valentine's ep, especially Sheldon's wink at the end.
- Shamy's knee-touch on Application Deterioration (shallow, I know. it's because I still get feels on their touches, no matter how small.)
- all their scenes in Solder ❤
- Never Have I Ever tag
- their cute argument in Fermentation

Not much Shamy in the episode but a much better end to a season compared to last year when they broke up. I liked some of the interactions between Mary and Amy, it felt like there was some genuine warmth there between them. If they do get engaged at some point in the future I hope they explore that relationship a bit more.

Season 10 is going to be a big one for Shamy you would think.

I personally loved the finale, even though there was not much Shamy.  It looks like they're in a good place.  They seem comfortable together, and I loved Mary's interactions with Amy.

Disappointed due to lack of Shamy?

The finale seemed pretty good to me, for the most part. I thought the guest stars were great, and I enjoyed Amy’s interactions with Sheldon’s mom. It was odd that none of Penny’s family had showed up yet.

The little bits of Shamy were cute. Sheldon was in the company of his mother, Beverly, Leonard, and Penny, but it was still only Amy that he looked to for guidance and social cues. He was so obedient about the phone thing that maybe it was something they had pre-arranged to help him avoid any social faux pas.

A story focused on L/P was quite overdue this season, and I like that it set up (probably?) the first episode or two of season 10 without resorting to a cliffhanger. I’m interested to see their wedding redo, and pleased that we didn’t end with relationship drama for the main couples. Like Penny, I feel nothing but amusement at the idea of a dalliance between Mary and Leonard’s dad.

Underneath her icy retorts, it seemed like Beverly was still hurt by the end of her marriage. She would be a great person to have a little conversation with Sheldon about the consequences of focusing too much on science/work and not prioritizing a relationship/affection. I doubt that such a thing will happen, of course.

The Howard/Raj/Bernadette storyline didn't interest me very much.

There were only two disappointing things for me at season's end.  The first is that the living arrangements (and thus the ring) didn’t come up. The situation is weird, forced, and illogical at this point, and it looks like deliberate stalling. The second thing is that I wanted some mention of more Shamy coitus. I posted once before that I don't want them to get all the way back to Amy's birthday before it happens again. It would look too much like obligation or like something that Sheldon doesn't really want to do.

I'm hoping for good things from season 10, and I think there's a lot of great potential for more Shamy stories. And hey, at least we didn't end season 9 with a breakup.

It would have been a nice touch if the ring had come up somehow, not necessarily a proposal quite yet, but maybe Mary asking Sheldon when he plans on giving it to Amy.

I didn't like the fact that it didn't feel like a finale. It was very anti climatic. I know a lot of people have been saying that they enjoyed it because it was angst free, but I for one love angsty finales. I wanted something that would keep me glued to the show. Something to keep me anxious waiting for the new season. The finale did nothing for me. It was very bleh and a disappointment for me.
