[Spoilers] Shamy: Season 9

Tensor

Recommended Posts

I really thought I would stop commenting for the season after we got to a 1000, but then I realized the parallels between Bev/Penny and Meemaw/Amy, where both older lady praised the woman not with her son/grandson for their achievements and then crapped on the girls they were supposed to be bonding with.   At the end though, Bev admits that Penny makes Leonard happy and I'm bummed that all Amy got was, "I guess" or whatever it was about the engagement.   So my season 10 bucket list is already getting started and now includes Meemaw giving Amy a better vote of confidence than she did.

I doubt we'll get a Meemaw/Amy redo BUT I do want a Mary/Amy episode.

But yes, the parallels between Bev/Penny and Meemaw/Amy were very very direct and why I was happy for Amy!

I think if Sheldon had really not wanted to go shopping he would have said so in the first place.

When he sent Stuart to sub for him it was because he hadn't cottoned on to the fact that part of the reason Amy was 'making' him go shopping was that she wanted them to spend time together. He was probably a little bewildered by what the fuss was all about. I'm glad he didn't wait until the movie was over to apologise. He admitted he was wrong but I'm left wondering whether he understood what the 'wrong' was. To him 'nonsense'  means something that doesn't make total sense to him.

and actually....his knee jerk reaction WAS to miss the movie....he declined and said he was going shopping with Amy.  He only wanted to go once all his friends were going...and egging him on about using a stand-in (FOR the line of course which a rules follower was about).

and actually I loved the guys remembering all the lines they've waited in line together through.  Kinda like its rare now with all their busy relationship based lives now to do this.

I think he apologized knowing she was mad but actually through Stuart, he was told it was wrong to send Stuart and was insensitive.

I'm happy we are heading into a good hiatus with Shamy (for me & some at least).  No regression to me.  I might want to hide when the finale airs and so many are disappointed (critics, unspoiled, etc).  The finale is lackluster but I'm holding out hope for a glimmer, a look, anything... but ok if what we know is what we get.

yeah...while I may be glad that we get a shamy drama free summer, when the finale comes around after all the hate for this episode (which I just can't find within myself) I may need to avoid tumbler/forum/any form of social media.

I was checking out tumblr earlier... boy are they mad! Then again the writers ever so often say in interviews how the audience teaches them to not go too far and if this is one of those teaching moments then by all means let off some steam, fandom!

I'll probably have to let it sink in a bit and see the finale to form some more constructive thoughts on this. But yeah, I don't think it's the end of the world and there's a lot of great story potential they could mine from this. The frustrating part is really just the wait for S10. Can we like fast forward to September or something???

Until now I was indifferent to Beverly, well...not anymore! :icon_razz: I really liked her interactions with Amy, they seemed to get along very well (unsurprisingly). They talked about science and then she complimented her and her relationship, that was great! And I'm glad that Amy accepted the interview. They looked very chummy. She seemed comfortable enough with her to vent about her concerns.

Which brings me to my next point: I don't find Amy pathetic, or a doormat, for that matter. Talking about your frustrations isn't pathetic, and she really ripped Sheldon a new one via Stuart. IMO nowadays she knows how to pick her battles. Now, the massage thing is another matter. It's ringing a few warning bells as far as their physical relationship is concerned. She said it took her five years, so it's after the break-up. What's up with that?

wasn't at the finale last year she said "five years since our first date"? not necessarily post break-up (or maybe it is)

either way I still hold my theory that maybe he thought three minutes was the "safest" time limit, if you catch my drift

I've been kind of lucky because I got into the show proper a few months back watching the 8 seasons on Netflix and then pretty much a week after I saw the Season 8 finale and felt absolutely devastated at the breakup they started showing Season 9 over here in the UK on TV.

So I never had to suffer during the summer like some of you must have wondering about Shamy and how or when they were going to get back together. I could imagine it was a really tense time. At least we know this summer there will be none of that.:icon_biggrin:

I very much agree here. I think it's great Amy is given a platform to vent her anger to someone who knows and admires Sheldon as well but who isn't one of her usual friends. Berverly is an outsider to the group and thus has a different view on their relationship. I like that Beverly is so understanding and complimentary of Amy.

And of course the short sidetrack into some science topic was much appreciated as well. There isn't nearly enough science for the girls these days so thank goodness for Beverly! Can she visit more often?? lol

lol mirs1 and I wondered about the same thing earlier today. The breakup was shortly after the 5th anniversary and we're currently closer to the 6 year mark so... when exactly was the massage?? The comment itself makes it hard to date and get an impression of "what kind of Sheldon" (for lack of a better description) we're dealing with here.

@Jedichic98 You could be right.

@Jonny83 I started watching last summer, though I wasn't devastated about the break-up at all.

I just hope that the first eps of season 10 will have some great Shamy interactions. And you know, since hope dies last, let's hope that there's some Shamy hidden in the finale...(I don't really think so, but what the hell).

I don't want to double post so:

@April Like Jedichic98 said, it could be before the break-up. Then I'll just take it as Amy venting in general about her very slow WIP boyfriend. If it's not though, I'll have to wonder WTF Sheldon felt the need to time it. Of course, we could always assume that he might think that massages are nonsense or something, but that would be pure assumption, unfortunately.

Last year was no pic-nic, so I'm ok with something a bit underwhelming but not a train-wreck, LOL!

The time frame of Amy's complaints it's very difficult to understand. How do they count their 7 months break up? Sheldon seemed to not count them, when he was speaking with his meemaw of his WIP. Because 5 years may mean soon before they broke up (if they count them) or  after they reconciled (if they don't count them). But  after they reconciled there was 9.11, I don't see how a massage could have been seen by Amy as an achievement after that...Watching the episode, TBH, I got the impression everything she mentioned happened after they reconciled and she was speaking about more recent issues. But, indeed, thinking about it, it could be also just before it, which would made a bit more sense (and the timing part of the massage would have been less disagreeable if it refers to that period...)  Anyhow, Season 10 has to start really big for Shamy, because this last part of Season 9  has been a bit of  a let down.

I always have to do two viewings before commenting.....so I've done that and in my opinion, Shamy are doing fine.

I loved Amy turning Sheldon's "hired gun" Stuart on him...that running gag made me laugh.  Sheldon's "turnabout is fair play" line could be interpreted as "well played Amy Farrah Fowler"

I loved the interaction between Beverly and Amy..."maybe he couldn't get in a word edgewise".  Beverly's acknowledgement that being in a relationship with Sheldon can be difficult, too often their relationship is mocked, it must have been comforting to Amy to have someone acknowledge that.  Then to have Beverly admire their relationship.  All around good experience for Amy.

Sheldon's apology was so Sheldon, Amy pausing and leaving him hanging for a few seconds before accepting his apology....his subsequent "Thanks, you're a peach" made me smile.

Interested to see what the finale will bring.
