[Spoilers] Shamy: Season 9

Tensor

Recommended Posts

Penny is clearly amused by the possibility of Leonard's dad and Mary hooking up, but I couldn't quite make out what Amy's thoughts were on it as she observed it coming together at dinner. Bewilderment? Curiosity? Shock? Anyone have any thoughts on it?

I'm so grateful for a relaxing drama free summer !!

IMO - engagement will come before living arrangements in season 10, I feel that it's easier for the writers that way - they keep saying how changing LA is scary !..... But I'm thinking with Shamy sleepovers at 4a.

Ive only seen clips of the finale, what I've seen I loved :) . Am I right in thinking wedding re do will be in the first ep of season 10 do you think ??

I'm  already excited for season 10 - we have lots of good things to come !

10x01 or maybe 10x02 if they make it a double episode. According to Molaro the details are not set, yet, but that is indeed the plan so far! :)

I think she was a bit shocked, and maybe...worried, because she realized that for Sheldon that is not exactly "good news". So she tried to give him some heads up, but when she realized he was as oblivious as usual (bless you Sheldon!) she didn't insist with him, but kept a WTF face during the rest of the dinner. She was funny, though!

I would agree. Amy saw something early on developing between them but perhaps was a a bit shocked in the end, I think she probably knows Sheldon is going to freak out over this as well. I know some might have found it annoying that Amy was telling Sheldon to play with his phone (perhaps plays into this treating Sheldon as a child thing), but it was pretty obvious she was trying to stop him from saying something outrageous.

Amy and Mary seemed to get along well, looking forward to more interactions between them in the future.

Little as Amy likes having Sheldon treated as a child, I think Amy realised this time that it was better to keep Sheldon occupied than have him misbehaving at someone else's important event.

It's the first time in years that we've seen Amy and Mary interact. It's interesting that Amy's hitherto continued to call Mary 'Mrs Cooper'. I also thought it was telling that Mary referred to Amy as 'your young lady' not 'your girlfriend' or 'your fiancee'. It sounds much more respectful and established than the former and not using the latter term shows she's been kept aware that her family ring is still tucked away somewhere. She's accepted being addressed formally by Amy for five years and now wants to be addressed by her given name, which shows to me that she finally feels Amy is a permanent part of her life.

Loved the episode, it was hilariously funny! Yep, I also thought Sheldon was too clueless sometimes, but it was okay. And Amy telling him to play with his phone twice was really just because he was about to say something embarrassing or to distract him from something that might upset him. So not really upset or worried about that at all.

The Howardette/Raj B-plot was okay - of course not the highlight, but how could they compete with Beverly, Mary, Alfred, Shamy and Lenny in the A-plot?

Loved the interaction between Mary and Amy in the car. And Sheldon's look in the backseat is great - he seems dumbfounded that his mother and Amy are getting along really well. Interesting that it bothered him when meemaw didn't like Amy and now it seems to surprise him (bothered would be too much) that Mary seems to love Amy.

Lenny: So cute! And I'm really happy that we will (hopefully) get a ceremony with their family and friends in season 10!...and really wonder how this will play out with the development we got in 9x24.

Mary and Beverly: Fantastic!

Beverly and Alfred: Even more fantastic!

Aaaannnd: Malfred: LOL! Penny just sums it up at the end: I love it! :haha:

Now the writers definitely managed one thing: I can hardly wait for season 10, it will be a long summer! But a happy one this time, because with the info we have now (Mary/Alfred, Beverly, Penny's family being there) this second wedding ceremony has the potential for a real comedy highlight! :good2:

I loved this episode :)

Sure, it definitely wasn't the most exciting finale, but honestly that's perfect lol. No worries for the Summer, no overly dramatic cliffhangers, no impatient pacing of the floorboards waiting for season 10... Well, at least not yet haha.

Loved the interaction between Amy and Mary! You can tell she really likes her. :shy: Hope to see more of this in season 10! And hopefully we'll get to see Sheldon interacting with Amy's family at some point too.

And one more thing...

Malfred <3

I would love them to have sleepovers in 4A.  I think there are some great chances for some comedy between the two couples.  Would love to see Lenny freaked out by hearing Shamy in the next room and then sneak out to 4B for the rest of the night.

I wonder about Sheldon and the ring...We know he had it for god knows how long in 8x24. I think that he would have proposed soon, if not at that Skype call (yikes), but I doubt he would have been able to deal with all the implications of an engagement and a subsequent wedding at that time.

Then he was going to propose to Amy in the Spock episode but that was just his way to try and save his relationship in a "last resort" way. Not the best way or reason to get engaged to someone.

In Convergence he didn't want Amy to get too friendly with Mary, so something must have changed. Plus, he's still unhealthily attached to Lenny. So...what's going on there? Did he get too comfortable living with them and now he doesn't want to disturb the status quo? Does he want to take it slow with Amy for his own reasons (as he told her to "cool her jets")? Both of these? Something else?

I wouldn't read too much into it honestly, it could just be that the writers have decided to slow it right down and save that storyline for later. If we get through most of Season 10 and then there is no mention of the ring then it's time to get concerned.

I don't think he was trying to stop Amy being friendly with his mother, he had that line about calling her Mrs Cooper which I agree was a little bit weird but maybe Sheldon has this view that until you really know somebody you don't call them by their first name. Amy doesn't really know Mary that well yet even though she has been with Sheldon for some time.

I'd have to go back and rewatch the earlier episodes where Mary Cooper has visited, but I'm thinking the gang always called her Mrs. Cooper.  In which case, Amy calling her Mary is a change, and our Shelly hates change.  I think he will get used to the idea, but it takes him time.

I took the Mrs Cooper thing as one of those quirky Sheldon things when he is possessive of something...Amy, the love of his life, doesn't sit in his coveted "spot" and she doesnt het to call her Mary just yet. Kind of a dumb throw away to me, I didnt think it was funny.

I DID, however, like how Mary shut Sheldon and his nonsense down both with the "Mary" talk and also her praise of Leonard for taking care of her boy. She tells it like it is, love that about her. And she clearly enjoys Amy in Sheldon's life, and it looks like Amy soaked it up, especially given the Meemaw reception she got in the past. Perfect!

Actually Penny called her Mary once.

I watched the scene again...You guys could be right, I still have my doubts though.

And @2L344, Mary was awesome in the car. She looked so happy to have Amy there! And yes, she knows how to handle Sheldon's obnoxiousness. Kind of like Amy :D

Hello everyone! A bit late cause I was super busy all day but here are my 2 cents with regards to the Shamy bits we got in the finale:

- I'm super happy for the lack of drama in this. The parents' interactions were so damn funny and the resulting tension/awkwardness brought out some hilarious reactions from Shamy/Lenny.

- Loved the Mary/Shamy car scene with Mary being so sweet to Amy and granting her first name privileges. It felt like a nice "you're part of the family now" kind of thing. <3 The gang indeed always called her "Mrs. Cooper" - at least until 8x23 when we see Lenny calling her Mary. So I guess after something like 8+ years and a ton more interaction personal and per phone than Amy ever had with her on screen they were allowed to call her by her first name.

- There weren't many big Shamy scenes in this but I really liked how the little things showed them being in a good place. There were many glances at each other as a reaction to the surrounding awkwardness by the family bickering. I also liked how it seemed that Sheldon is looking to Amy for guidance through the social interactions and the execution of the phone comments felt like he was willingly taking her clues to shut up and stay out of a certain conversation. (No, Sheldon, you don't need to explain a joke in the middle of a toast.) I expected to be annoyed by this but it played out milder than I feared it would, if that makes any sense.

- Overall Sheldon's cluelessness is a bit of an old and tired joke but I guess at least they're consistent with this. He doesn't pick up the subtleties of social interactions and boy he really doesn't get when someone is flirting. I hope that on some level Amy got a clue about how she was kinda setting herself up for failure with her subtle flirting attempts and maybe, if the writers have mercy with us, she'll find a way to address what she wants in a more direct way and they'll figure something out that works for the both of them in S10.

So then, what I got from this was a light-hearted finale that leaves me wanting for more in S10. I guess in that regard it worked rather well for me. <3

First bold...Penny also calls her Mary in that episode.  Penny arrives and greets Beverly first then Sheldon says "You remember my mother" and Penny says "Oh yes, Hi Mary"

Second bold...agreed, he trusts her, implicitly.  No sass, no backtalk, he basically acknowledges that Amy knows better in these types of situations.

Third bold...I thought that this was more about who was doing flirting...his mom and Leonard's dad.  When Amy flirts with him, I feel like his reactions are based on trying to deal with being a sexual being and trying to integrate that into his whole being.  In this case, it was his mother, many adults have trouble acknowledging that their parents are sexual beings.  I think that "clueless Sheldon" was ramped up in this situation.

Overall, the episode left me feeling a little "blah".  It didn't feel like a season finale, more like a mid-season finale.  It will be interesting to see if they take this anywhere at the start of Season 10.

Hence why I wrote "Lenny" as in: Leonard and Penny. ;D

Right? <3

I also like that Amy is kinda "picking her battles" here (well, "battles" is the wrong word because there is none but I can't think of a better expression right now). Sheldon explains the joke Mary made to her? He gets a half-sweet, half-sarcastic comment (which puts a smile on his face lol). He wants to explain a joke during Leonard's toast possibly ruining the moment for them? She signals him it's not the right time and he immediately shuts up.

I don't think this is mutually exclusive - this being his mother here surely just adds to him not suspecting anything until Penny makes it more obvious in the tag.

But also, the assumption in bold is as of now just a theory. We don't really have a proper explanation on screen so far - the only consistency is that Amy makes a flirty comment and Sheldon subsequently wonders why she's saying weird things. He simply doesn't seem to understand the suggestive meanings behind her comments (which is consistent with his character in that he has always had trouble reading people).

I do hope that we get more on this in S10 though - I would love to see Sheldon trying to integrate "being a sexual being" into his life somehow. And maybe then it will turn out his reactions to Amy's flirting do have something to do with that but so far I don't think we have concrete evidence simply because the writers sadly haven't addressed it at all so far. But it does have a ton of story potential for S10 - they better not waste it.

Well, the mid-season finale felt like a season finale so I guess we reached equilibrium! LOL

I liked this episode. But it was very Blahhh. Clearly, The Opening Night Excitation is and will always be the highlight of season 9 :shy:

I enjoyed the finale episode, thought it was certainly one of the best of the season. Opening Night for me was the best all round episode of Season 9, it was so well written and acted.

But if we are talking purely Shamy I did have Opening Night as No.1 but I've now changed my opinion and Earworm is probably taking the top place for me having seen it again.

"Opening Night" and "Earworm" were from far the best episodes of the season, talking about Shamy. But I would certainly love if they let it to the finale. How awesome could it be to close a season which started poorly by putting the main couple (imo) to lose their virginity with each other? It would have the most watched finale ever, and also the best rated!
In general, I can't complain too much, only thank the writers by giving my Shamy back and wish they warned me that this season would be a wild ride. I could have put my seatbelt, at least.

Bloopers only at September, right?
