After reading the teaser and thinking more about the possibilities for the premiere of season 9, I feel like the engagement could actually happen in episode one.
There has been a lot of debate about Sheldon and Amy's relationship on here. The general consensus is that they have their own way of doing things, showing feelings, and that Sheldon has a lack of social understanding. Combining all those things together, provided they have the conversation about their wants in the relationship, Sheldon may decide to just do it right there and then.
His rationale would be something to the effect of "I want to be engaged to you, I have the ring, what would be the point in waiting when I've already came to the conclusion?".
Either way, I'm excited to see what the writers have planned. And my Big Bang Theory calendar is sending me good vibes with today's picture and quote:

"Your mother thinks you might be losing your mind over me. As a neurobiologist I was curious."

Molaro has made it quite clear Sheldon is not the only one who's wrong here and Mayim herself has said she's not sure what Amy wants either. I think to ignore the fact that a lot of the stuff Amy wants is overly superficial romantic nonsense that was never what their relationship is really about, or to put it all on Sheldon. is a very simplistic look at their relationship and Amy as a character. She might come across as more "normal" than Sheldon because she's more open minded and malleable but they're fundamentally cut out of the same cloth. There are definitely things she genuinely wants, and rightly so. The question is what those things are and how much of the rest is her having unrealistic expectations based on how she thinks a relationship should be but in reality is stuff that doesn't matter to who they are as a couple. There must be reasons why she "loves Sheldon" and I think part of the break is for her to rediscover those reasons. I think she's been so buys cajoling Sheldon in the direction she wanted him to go that she's lost sight of why she's with him in the first place. Again, I'm in no way saying that Sheldon has no growing up to do, he does, he has done and he will do. Like everyone else. But in any fight there is rarely one side that's totally right and one side that's totally wrong and, again, Molaro has repeatedly said they both have a leg to stand on, here, so there has got to be more to this time off than Amy simply waiting around for Sheldon to change or deciding what she can or cannot compromise on. That would me mind-numbingly uninteresting to me and the topic of one hundred fanfics. I hope they can so better than that.

Koops: you make your points very eloquently (as always), but happen to not agree with any of them. I'm not saying I'm right either but I think differently than you do. I think that most of the things Amy wants are NOT superficial romantic nonsense, I think they are all normal things that any woman would want. I think she genuinely wants, and not just because they fit the idea of what she thinks a relationship should be. The part that perhaps I most disagree with if when you say there must be reasons she loves Sheldon. Really? I don't think so. There can be, but not necessarily. When you love someone , you love someone. To paraphrase Penny: "the heart wants what the heart wants". I also don't think that the "separation" is for her to figure out why she wants to be with Sheldon because she already knows that: because she loves him. Besides that what difference would it make to her to know the reasons (consciously) or not? She wants to be with him. Period. Where feelings are concerned I really don't see the need for rationalizing everything so much, TBH. The other point you make that I don't agree with is that she hasn't been busy trying to change Sheldon, she has been waiting for Sheldon to change by himself , or by the power of her love. Yes, I know you may think that's a little sappy, but I guess I'm a romantic at heart.

For me, reasons are not important...just feelings.

At least I did not spend the summer crying over Amy breaking up with Sheldon, I told myself they were on a break, nothing more. But now, I can be fully depressed. Or should I be happy? I know this break up will lead to something good

hmm idk how to feel? I'm not really upset, but not entirely happy? I'm now just looking forward to the next taping... This break up could be interesting... Let us all close our eyes, calm down and remember the Zazzy Substitution.

Well, thank you, writers for turning the most unique couple on television in yet another romantic sitcom trope. This makes zero sense, other than the fact that you just don't know what you're doing anymore. Not to mention that it seems to me like Molaro blatantly lied in all of his recent interviews. There was no need whatsoever for a proper breakup to tell a good story unless you're planning to turn Amy into just another girl, get her out on some dates with some guys, then maybe when the show is on season 34819 and nobody gives a f*** anymore she can get back to Sheldon so he can lose his virginity. Well, you won't have me around sitting and watching through that. So long, show.
