Alright, the verdict( from my deranged perception of course) Plus points : Mayim was really funny, I actually forgot what a gifted actress she is. And I'm glad we got some more kisses. Now, here's the not so great news. I know everyone's entitled to their own opinion yada yada yada... but I disagree with what the naysayers are naysaying... to me that was huge progress, of course you have your own view of the show. I tend to keep an open, unbiased mind... but the "Sheldon's asexual" fans must be soooooo delighted right now... I mean, they're so glad that they were right that they're missing obvious signs... I suggest you go watch that episode one more time, but this time try it without the condescending . I actually used to like this forum, now I see it's a breeding place for unnecessary drama in my life... to be brutally honest... you're all reading into all this waaay tooo much.  But right, everyone's entitled to the own opinion, even though that opinion is a thinly veiled attempt to really sink the ship. You're succeeding, cos this has been my last post on here. I'm sure I won't be missed, but atleast now you can all go back to speaking your truths in a thread dedicated for the SHIPPING of shamy... Tot siens en geniet jou lewe!

You are free to do whatever you please, but I guess I am missing something here.  95% of the comments tonight have been about how much people loved the episode.  And most of the disappointment came from the fact they cut the part with them cuddling after sex.

Sheldon used this line in Season 5, I think it was the 100th episode, when he got the huge picture of Spock, but it was Zachary Quinto, the wrong Spock for him...He said "Live long and suck it, Z:Q..." The fun thing is that in a BTS for the 100th episode, the writers said that for that line they needed a lot of legal stuff and permissions done...This time it was not needed, and the whole WW stuff at the movie theatre was so fun!

I had to do some research on this because I had never heard of this term before.   It is interesting reading.  I didn't know men were capable of multiples, and that Tantric makes it possible, giving him more control over pleasing his partner.

This does seem plausible if Sheldon did his research and had a lot of practice. It would work in harmony with his love of repitition.

However, he is new to this, nor is he spiritual by any means. 

I think Sheldon's successful prowess is a reflection of:

1.  As he has "opted out" of sex for many reasons but has to bare the cross of getting urges, he has mastered control of his sexual faculties.  Maybe he needed more force and speed to overcome his intimacy anxieties. 

2.  Brain matter exceeded genital matter.  Perhaps he used thought distraction or kolinahr to keep from letting go too soon, giving him more time for Amy to do so. 

3.  All of his emotion for Amy manifested itself physically and came pouring out in his actions. 

4. Seeing Amy's reactions caused him to become extremely excited to where he just became unbridled.

5.  Amy guided him on what she was feeling and needed.  She seems to like things rough, and if the spanking is any indicator, she could have egged him on. 

6.  The "O" comes easily for Amy, if her reaction to Zack is an indicator, making it easier for Sheldon to do his part.  She has practiced with Gerard.

7.  Sheldon did research, listened to Penny's advice, and incorporated his own techniques based on such.  He did tell PP that he understood the mechanics.  I think Sheldon would give himself another PhD here based on results of his study on the subject.

8.  Sheldon and/or Amy together formulated some type of math or science equation to determine the most effective way to get there.  Amy has been quite successful at pleasing starfish.  Brain function has a lot to do with sexual satisfaction inspite of all the jokes.

9.  They are just right for each other in every way, intellectually and physically.

10.  Because it is Sheldon and he has to excel at everything he does, including making sure his gift resulted in her enjoying it.

11.  Their relationship needed this, and while sex may not become a prominent part of their lives, it will strengthen their bond.  This was meaningful, special, and lengthy on purpose, not a quick dance under the sheets.  Sheldon was in absolutely no hurry to jump out of that bed, but lay there in accomplished reflection.  

Sheldon later told PP in the tag he didn't need his advice anymore.  That says a lot.  He is at peace over his decision and the outcome.  In addition, it did not interfere with his enjoyment of the SW movie at all.  It was a win-win.  Like the sex, he got to enjoy that with Amy, too.  

I got to thinking that his line about Amy not knowing the SW franchise as he did was a valid statement and could be paralled to their consummation.

Sheldon went into Amy's bedroom having prepared and done the research. He didn't know what to expect, but he knew what he was doing and what he wanted to accomplish.   In essence, he was further ahead than she was going in.  He may have actually enjoyed it a little more than she did.

Those are exactly the  reasons why I posted the link to the interview!! I had to run for a class, so I couldn't elaborate more, but those were the parts I wanted to underline!!!!Those...and the two hours coitus, of course!!! LOL!!

I think now is for sure that the take in the EW interview was made in another moment; this kiss is much more "fluid" with respect to the other we saw in that video...Jim softened his moves in getting the phone, and it was a good thing, it looked a little awkward and forced; or maybe it's the angle that changed....Anyway, now it's perfection!

After rewatching it a few times now it was perfect for do many reasons to me. The fact that we see Sheldon really put her needs & wants first from picking her over Stars Wars, asking for advice for gifts that are all Amy themed, getting tips from Penny, getting her flowers, the knocking with birthday girl, calming her when she is nervous....he was 100% absolute perfection.

And Mayim killed it with her acting. I totally am a Amy that gets all into the hype but gets super nervous at the moment. She was open and honest with him.

The tie into Star Wars was genius.

Also adding I loved their friends reconizing how big this step is. The girls asking if he was ready and the guys saying how cool it was he chose Amy over Star Wars. Now everyone knows Shamy is no joke!

Did I miss the cuddle sure BUT instead we got a sentimental bed kiss. And the kiss on the couch was hot.

When you marry this with E10 what huge growth you have for both of them alone and together.

At first I was bummed reading comments by Molaro saying its an annual thing (which he in other publications says may be sooner than that) but I do get this. They kept Sheldon Sheldon. They didn't drastically change either of them. And he did enjoy it and can't wait to do it again. And she obviously did lol.

A little late to the party. Got a bit distracted because OBVIOUS REASONS SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!1 <3

My usual two cents:

- The Star Wars opening was gold! LMAO

- Love the way the Amy's b-day vs. Star Wars conflict was brought up and quickly resolved, but still in a way that made it all meaningful, if that makes any sense.

- All the PP scenes were so perfect! Bob Newhart is such a delight.

- The Shamy night time call! "It's late, gotta go, bye!" LOL

- How do those knock knock knock jokes never get old?? lmao

- The scene with Sheldon, Penny and Bernie was so sweet. And seeing how Sheldon presented his other b-day present options I'm sticking with my assertion from earlier this week that coitus was his #1 choice and he just cobbled together some half-assed alternative ideas for when he was asking the girls. ("Harp thing, sheep thing..." - "...WILD thing" LOL Bernie, I love you so much! <3) Furthermore, the way he explains that despite his issues he thinks that this is the right moment to do this step with her, really sells the idea to me that he thought about it and has been ready for quite some time now, and was just waiting for the right opportunity to broach the subject.

- The whole stairs scene with the girls preparing Amy for the evening had me cackling. It was so hilarious - and sweet at the same time! Perfect!!

- Did I mention how great PP was?? Him trying to impale himself with the lightsaber! OMG

- "This is an important night for us." awwwww

- Wil Wheaton trolling the theatre audience was so funny as well. "YEAH, LIVE LONG AND SUCK IT!!"

- BIRTHDAY GIRL!! #dead

- The whole living room scene was so sweet and funny. aww lol

- Love especially the homage to their first kiss. <3

- Aww, Amy liked Star Wars! <3 (And yes, as much as the final joke is about Sheldon not getting the sex reference, sex with Amy is still on his subconscious mind days later and I'm sure it won't go away.)

- The whole juxtaposition of Star Wars and Shamy's first time with all those expectations and fears and whatnot was brilliant. And looking at the discussion here, I guess it also works brilliantly on a meta level for the hype we got that was building for a month now.

All in all, I loved it back to front. There's maybe one little flaw with the cuddling being cut but otherwise I couldn't be happier!

While we're on the topic of losing one's virginity, I thought I might lose my "essay virginity". Whoa, I'm a little nervous actually. Okay, here goes:

What I enjoyed most about this episode was that in the midst of all the jokes and laughs (and there were plenty of them! Good ones at that!) there was a healthy portion of realism – in writing as well as execution.

As Sheldon himself tells Penny and Bernadette he’s struggled with intimacy throughout his life, and the concerns he voices are valid. “It’s an important night for both of us” he tells Professor Proton, “and I’ve never done this before. I’m scared I’ll be overwhelmed and ruin everything”.

As hilarious as some of these scenes come across they are also surprisingly poignant, at least to me. It’s a big step for anyone to share one’s body with another person, but for someone who’s essentially spent his entire life in fear of said body it’s a gargantuan task to undertake, one that might actually force him to re-evaluate who he is and how he’s chosen to lead his life. As always, Sheldon approaches this with pragmatism and organization – it’s how he’s always done things and this is no different, and when he has a feeling he knows it. Without hesitation he once again proclaims his love for Amy and lowers his guards enough to actually ask for advice on how to make it perfect for her. It’s incredibly brave, mature, and unselfish of him, and really does confirm that he is – as he says – ready to be intimate with the woman he loves.

Amy cannot believe her luck of course, and for a few blissful seconds she is so wrapped up in her cocoon of love and euphoria that she forgets to stop and really think through what is going to happen. It’s like when you’ve dreamt for years to go sky-diving and you’ve seen pictures and movies and read books, and you’ve imagined yourself up among the clouds and it’s all so beautiful and mind-blowing. But once in that plane you realize it’s four kilometers between you and the ground and what you thought would be a liberating experience becomes frightening instead.

Once in bed together, Amy is so nervous she’s on the verge of crying. She hasn’t had more than a day to think this through, unlike Sheldon. And one tends to forget that while they’re very much alike, they are essentially different people. Sheldon’s expectations are realistic: he knows it might not be perfect – after all, none of them has any experience whatsoever and some fumbling is to be expected – and he also know that it’s okay because they will learn, together. It will be alright. Amy however is afraid she might have set her expectations too high and she’s just realized Sheldon might not be the one who “ruins” it – but Sheldon steps in (for once acting as the voice of reason) and assures her that the most important thing is that they’re in this together. The rest will come in time. Amy’s smile couldn’t say “I love you” more if she tried, and they lean in for a tender kiss that seals their bond and opens the door to a new era in their life together.

The aftermath is both sweet and hilarious, but it still gets a very important message across: they’ve overcome this obstacle together and they were both happy with the end-result. Sheldon quietly but happily contemplates the events of the evening while Amy is lost in her bubble of bliss. They’re different alright, but they’re different together. And that’s what it’s always been about with Shamy.

I just watched it (earlier than I thought yeah!) and I am speechless!! Having read some comments this morning I was really disappointed about the cuddle being cut BUT now that I have watched it I am so so happy!!!! I loved everything about it and LMAO for the "a few hours later"!! Shamy had fun (for hours!), they are happy and the best of all on the same page!! I loved Amy saying "this works for me" and it would be funny if the girls thought she would be sad but turns out Amy is honestly fine with it. I am definitely crossing my fingers that Amy won't take that back and starts pushing and we get the same dynamics again! But I hope that won't happen and the the will find a clever and sweet way to show us that they will be doing that sooner than later!! The cold open was purely genius!!!

Since there are no gifs, words or anything to convey my happiness right now I will stop now!!

The whole thing was perfect. I can even live without the after cuddle just because of the kiss before. That was special.

I absolutely loved PP and at the end when Sheldon didn't get the implied jokes he was making....I thought it was perfectly IC for him.

I also loved that Amy saw the movie. To me that was terrific. It said to me, yeah I hate this stuff but I will go because I get to be with the man I love. The girls may not enjoy all the same things the guys do but they always do it with them regardless because that is what you do in a relationship. You give and take.

SO all in all I loved this episode. And I can honestly say I don't care if they do it again soon o)r in another year for her birthday again.(of course I don't think that will be the case)

I like how they are going to fade into the background for a while....and just be happy.
