[Spoilers] Shamy: Season 9

Recommended Posts

I assume people are still in Shamy heaven? Whoever suggested to watch these Shamy scenes in slo-mo on Youtube was evil. That's all I've been doing all day.. Btw does anyone else love the audience's reaction when Amy kisses Sheldon after he asks if she is okay with his gift? All the aaws and cheering

Ok fellow Shamies, I typed up this report on the plane home just now. I've just landed and have another hour or so until I'll be home, but I thought I'd post this at least for you all real quick.  Sor

Oh...I thought someone has already posted a TR? No? Ok. First of all, English is not my first language, so I may have misunderstood a lot of the lines. Please forgive me if the episode turns out

I just wanted to say that after a couple days to get my brain back, cause I totally lost my mind!......I loved every wonderful moment of this last episode, and i have been loving everyone's take on it!  It was in two words delightfully beautiful!......And i can't wait to see more!  Big things, small things........lol.....ALLL THE THINGS to come for this couple!   Hmmmmm...it seems I am still having trouble verbalizing exactly how wonderful I thought this episode was....no words I can think of come close to being able to give it justice; ....every part of it, Penny, Bernadette, Amy, the guys....OMG Prof Proton (SO SO AWESOME, I CAN'T EVEN BEGIN) and of course Shamy!

lol...on a side note I had a crazy dream where Amy proposed to Sheldon during one of their weirdly romantic games (I cant remember what, exactly) and then freaked out thinking that she scared off Sheldon, only to have Sheldon say that his answer will be yes contingent on her saying yes to him first as traditionally it is the man that asks first....it was an awesome dream!

Nah, they aren't counting hits on any websites, for precisely the reason Melody is urging everyone to do.  Hits on a website are too easy to game.   As a simple example, there is no way to tell whether one person watched it 50 times, five people watched it 10 times each or fifty people watched it once.

Actually they can tell how many unique IP addresses hit (for example) the CBS website video page quite easily, the webmaster will have access to those statistics :)

They can do the same on youtube: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1714329?hl=en

Social media integration has become hugely important for brands in recent years, including TV/Movies. Nielsen even track twitter mentions now weirdly!

Ratings tell the studios (roughly) how many people / the different types of people who watch their shows but not why they watch the shows.

The highest rated episode of the Big Bang Theory ever was  7x02 (The Deception Verification) was that because it was part of the season opener double bill and there was a lot of advertising for it? Was it because the trailer showed Leonard with a beard and a lot of people are beard fans?

Until social media was invented producers didn't have much of an idea what parts of their shows were most popular with fans but between the reactions they get online, youtube/officall website video hits and from fans at events like comic con modern TV shows know exactly what their fans like to see.

Amy kissing Sheldon for the first time got well over a million views on youtube as did "the only conclusion was love" clip and the producers actually talked about their reactions to the ShAmy clips getting those types of numbers - was that at comic con? Help me out here someone.

So @stardustmelody has a good point about ShAmy fans showing their support, I was just curious if she thought the youtube hits more important than the official site ones.

I agree, but it's even more than that to me, from that episode. I think the point in that episode isn't just about what Amy wanted that Sheldon would or wouldn't give her (especially not just sex), but the fact that what she wanted or thought she wanted wasn't really important to her in the grand scheme of things. We have to remember where Amy started from, someone who was just as aloof and closed off as Sheldon, with no interest in romantic bonds or sex, and she came to desire all these different things through the years. I'm not saying that she doesn't really want any of them, because she does want some of them for sure, but the bottom line is that those were extra things added onto what Amy has *always* perceived as priorities or important in her life. And I think that intellectual and emotional connection she found with Sheldon trumps all the romance and sex that she might have come to want in the last few years, and it's something that the Amy of *any* point in their story cherished the most. It's something that was there all along, no matter how much everything else around it changed.

So I don't think she's "settling", and I think that, say, had she started a relationship with Dave, she might have gotten sex and flowers out of him, but she would have "settled" as far as everything else goes. Also, Amy isn't stupid. She said she "understands" why Sheldon struggles with intimacy, and I'm sure that they have had conversations about it, some of which we have seen on screen. And they will continue to communicate about it. I don't think Amy is deluding herself as she might have done early on when she was still in the 'infatuation' phase of S5. I think she's matured, she's more realistic in her desires and expectations now and I don't think it's a matter of sacrificing, I think it's a matter of prioritizing, and just because some rank sex at the top of the list for a relationship, it doesn't mean that's the case for Amy. She's sorted out her priorities, just as much as Sheldon has. And, like you say, they're in a much better place because of that.

And this is still the "worst" case scenario, which is unlikely to unfold, because I doubt the show would go there. I think it's more likely that we will we assist to an awakening of Sheldon's sexuality (as weird and unusual as it will be) through the season, particularly with the comments from TPTB about how it won't be a year until the next time despite what Sheldon's plan might be at this stage and how it's "part of his psyche" now and he will have to work at compartimentalizing it. Until they eventually settle into something odd and Shamy-like but that works for them as far as their sex life go.

yeah I agree for the most part. ive said it before, Amy of season 9 has matured and come a long way fron the Amy in season 4. my only concern nowadays now that Shamy is better than ever is that she and sheldon communicate better with one another. as much as Amy had become more aware of her desires, and in my opinion developed a lot of confidence, this break up was written with Amy reacting emotionally to Sheldon rather than communicating with him, which she had done succesfully in the past.

no one really talked about it in 9.11 because frankly we are all basking in the afterglow of the goodness that this episode brought us, but theres still a hint of that Amy still i the way she questioned Sheldon about his Star Wars plans. When he called her and told her about his conflict regarding attending the SW premier and spending her birthday with her, Amy pointedly asked him " were you actually NOT going to spend my birthday with me?" For a brief second I had that old "uh oh" feeling hit me at hearing this, and this while already knowing how the episode plays out.

now this could be just a very valid question and a reasonable one to ask given it IS her birthday. One could also argue the importance of the premier for Sheldon. I prefer to think Sheldon made the proper choice, but given the recent break up and the reason Amy initiated it still concerns me. Lucky for Sheldon he had made the right choice with the birthday and instead of responding to Amys question he essentially hung up on her. Obviously he, too, had an "uh oh" moment and made his escape!

that question could have certainly led to an argument given how things have been, and i just hope we are done with a lot of the drama concerning what Amy wants vs. what Sheldon is willing to give her. I expect there to be hiccups as they sort out their new found level of intimacy, but I hope the days of taking each other for granted, and miscommunications over things like this, are in the past...

Did anyone notice that picture of Meema and PopPop on top of Sheldon's dresser during the Tag when Prof. Proton visited him?

Some posters before noticed that in a previous episode the same picture was in Leonard's bedroom. It was pointed out I think in "The opening night excitation" thread...but it's sweet the people in charge of setting up the sets decided to put a picture of Sheldon's grandparents in the room anyway!

I didn't notice this at the time, cus I was too busy laughing at his fake yawn and quick hang up but the other half saw it and said:
"He's learning! Last season he would have out and out told her 'of course not' and it would have turned into a fight!"

Skewed progress?

Out of curiosity, I've checked the number of visualizations of the sex scene in different Youtube channels (it's sunday morning, I've nothing to do and that was a way to watch the that scene for the 1000th time...) The number of visualizations in the Official TBBT channel is impressive, since it was uploaded just a couple of days ago, but is literally nothing if you compare it with the numbers in other channels; just to make a single comparison, it is roughly 35.000 visualization on the Official TBBT channel and 200.000 visualization in the unofficial channel I usually use to catch up with the new episodes the day after they air in USA. But on other unofficial channels the numbers are almost as high...I think it's understandable, since the Official TBBT works just for USA people, who most likely have other media to watch the scene over and over again if they want), while all the others work for everybody else in the world, who may be not able to watch the scene on TV for many months. The problem is that I really don't know how "legal" are those unofficial channels, some of them are very often closed due to the violation of copyright laws, so, even assuming TPTB look at the number of visualizations in YT channels, to look at those unofficial channels seems a little masochistic, they are looking at people who make them loose money publishing what they publish. Of course, I think they "bear" the presence of most of these channels, since it is still advertising, but this whole stuff seems strange for me. I'm sure TPTB  look at audience reaction for every episode and for this in particular and search for it also in social media, since theirs is a business and every business is based on customers satisfaction, but not sure how they measure the costumers satisfaction...

If you watch Jim puts on an eye twitch for Sheldon, he also flexes his cheek and neck muscles sometimes. These kind of 'tic's are very common in people with social anxiety problems and just one of the million reasons that he is one of my favourite actors :)

Yes he does you're right - and MR JP , is honestly the best  and always deliciously amazing !!! :icon_redface::icon_cheesygrin:

You are right, the official CBS youtube shouldn't be accessible to people outside the US but a lot of people use VPN blockers so that they can.
The unofficial ones have more viewers because that is how a lot of people see (at least parts) of the new episodes before they reach their countries.

Officially those channels are breaching copyright but they are very easy to find if the studio powers that be wanted to shut them down, as long as you don't upload an entire episode of a show most TV clips seem to stay up. Maybe because fan generated content is free advertising? Maybe cus they're too busy to notice? Who knows! but TBBT powers that be have discussed those views so they clearly know about those clips :scratchhead:

Game of Thrones got a lot of press for being the most illegally downloaded TV show which led to Sky (the UK broadcaster) to start showing the new episodes the day after the US. So broadcasters are definitely paying attention to what goes on online illegally!

Ugh, yes. I had the 'uh oh' moment as well. And please, no more of that, writers. It doesn't show either Sheldon or Amy in a good light if you are continually having Sheldon fail tests like this- not least because you are only ever giving the tests to Sheldon, and you are continually making Amy sound like she is never happy. Even when her concerns are perfectly valid, it is a tiresome note to give Amy to be continually exasperated or disappointed, because guess what? We will register it as 'The saga of the fuckup and his put-upon mother/lover'.

Thankfully, the rest of the episode IMMEDIATELY went pretty much all the way to correct that little hiccup. Sheldon and Amy took turns reassuring and comforting each other, helping each other over hazards and rough places. It was wonderful. The one other hairy moment was when Sheldon said 'I can't wait for your next birthday to do that again', and Amy's face seemed to fall, and I went 'OH DON'T YOU DARE SHOW', before Amy seemed to calculate 'Well, it'll probably take me about that long to recover the use of my legs', beamed happily and said 'WORKS FOR ME!'

Phew. You win, show. You win.

we think alike on this. the probelm with how the break up originated, and Amy's unconditional return to Sheldon after aquarium, is that it simply makes Amy appear to have had an emotional moment that triggered it. my opinion based on what i saw those first few episodes is that the break up was just another one of Amy's pissed off reactions to something Sheldon said or did (ie., Mars episode).

So, while we all agree it looks like Shamy is in an idyllic world now that 9.11 has them reaching new found intimacy, and more importantly a balance with both characters and more respect for Amy from Sheldon, little moments like Amy's pointed question towards Sheldon has us wondering if it could happen again....

Despite the ILY exchanges in 9.10 and the heavy make out session we still have little moments that can suggest it can happen again. i dont want to suggest Amy should be afraid to call Sheldon out on stuff but at the same time i dont like how she has reacted to things dramatically as of late without a discussion. i hope she is through with that, but that comment she made makea me doubt it somewhat....

I know I keep harping on about the kiss in bed - sorry I'm obsessed lol but if you have Instagram , go the TBBTCZECHPAGE and watch the black and white video of the kiss , it's zoomed in :) .

It really is the sweetest , most tender , but sexy kiss . I love it and love how Sheldon goes the last inch ......so adorable . He's so sure and calm . Swoon , our boy is so ready .

Grin still permanently on my face from this perfect episode !!!

I actually expect the show to give us a few more of those "uh oh" moments where we just know how this could easily turn into a frustrating pre-breakup situation - and then they're turning around to show us how both Sheldon and Amy are dealing better with those now.

I had a similar feeling with the TR from 9x12 when I first read how Amy was away and said she would want Sheldon there with her just for him to be like "yeah, how about no". And I feared this could be again her wanting more than him and all that jazz, but by the end of the episode she's wording the same sentiment a little differently and now Sheldon reciprocates because he has a literal mind like that. Of course he doesn't want to be on a neuroscience conference, but he still misses her as well. (Not to mention that in the meanwhile he named an asteroid after her because he's that kind of big ol' hippie now! lol)

I agree, there will always be moments in which Sheldon says or does Sheldon-y stuff which irritate Amy and moments in which Amy's expectations are too high or not very realistic given who her boyfriend is;  what this episode showed for me is that both of them has learnt a lot in the meantime and the both of them are more aware of those moments and more willing to "correct" a wrong behavior. Sheldon himself (with the assistance of his wisest inner part) realizes that his priority is as a matter of fact to be with Amy on her birthday and not to watch a beloved movie on its premiere, he is quicker than usual to realize that he has said the wrong thing at the wrong time and finds a way to get out of troubles. As for Amy, the Aquarium episode has already shown that she values her relationship for what it is, she doesn't need the "usual" romance and all the other things she was looking forward for in the past. And the line "That works for me..." is so strong for me, it means she is trying to make this new aspect of their relationship work at her own rules, without taking into account what is considered "normal" or "accepted" in a romantic relationship. Of course I really hope, as I told in many other posts, the times of "frustrated" Amy and "oblivious" Sheldon are over. But I don't expect the conflict to be over; it creates comedy gold, when it is not mean, and in Season 8, for example, for me it was not mean. I expect and hope a new and more mature way to face the conflict.

From http://tbbt-faves.tumblr.com

This is the man who refused to high five Raj a few episodes ago about to be physically intimate for the first time, he's clearly anxious until he sees her and then he's suddenly fine because "if you're with the right person it'll be ok"

... if anyone needs me I'll be over in this corner having died a Shamy related death ok?!

I loved this post!! You hit the nail on the head for me, I know some ppl didn't like the next year on your birthday line.. but it was actually cute to me. if you really think about it, yes he is thinking a whole year away in true Sheldon form, but this is the same person who had to ask what gift would be better, couldn't pick between and Xbox1 or a PS4,  had Penny help pick out jewelry (tiara) Bernadette to help find a Christmas gift to stop all Christmas gifts....But he already knows what she is getting next year on her birthday.
