[Spoilers] Shamy: Season 9

Recommended Posts

One thing that confuses me is that Amy knows Meemaw well enough to know about her Christmas cookies and even got the recipe but she doesn't know why Meemaw calls Sheldon moonpie??? I mean???

Either this is another inconsistency in the writing or Sheldon is a little embarrassed to tell Amy the reason because "She thinks I'm yummy yummy" is not something a boyfriend would want to tell his girlfriend.

I hope it's the latter one because Sheldon trying to pretend to be a man in front of Amy is cute. Also there're already too many inconsistencies in the writing. You'd think the writers would be better at consistency considering this is a show about science lol.

Oh I refuse to believe "Amy never cares enough to ask" is the reason. That's just crap.

Morning peeps! Let me clear up and give a more in depth shamy reportings!   There were 2 takes of the second kiss... As they finish kissing the first time round. They break apart. Sheld

Ok fellow Shamies, I typed up this report on the plane home just now. I've just landed and have another hour or so until I'll be home, but I thought I'd post this at least for you all real quick.  Sor

Oh...I thought someone has already posted a TR? No? Ok. First of all, English is not my first language, so I may have misunderstood a lot of the lines. Please forgive me if the episode turns out

Can someone who went to the taping confirm/deny that Memaww did not want to give Amy the cookie recipe and that Mary made her?

That was floating around earlier today but I've not seen it mentioned in the longer Taping Reports so I am just wondering if it was a misheard chat room thing?

Cheers :)

I said it on the chat room, because I thought I had heard that, but as English is not my first language and none of the other girls confirmed it, I probably misunderstood it. Just ignore it please :icon_cheesygrin:

I keep having this nagging feeling that Meemaw was testing Amy, maybe testing both of them?

This girl broke my Moonpie's heart and now they're back together...I'm gonna make damn sure that she won't ever do that again.

They are back together and he says he loves her....show me how much you love her Shelly.

Yeah, during the taping at first I think a lot of us thought she was testing Amy...but it didn't feel like that once the ring was outed.  That felt like a step too far to do that abd ruin a potential proposal and surprise if you didn't mean it.  Just my $.02 of course...

THINGS I DIDNT LOVE:

That it was Meemaw who said these things.  Amy has had to fight for any scrap of acceptance from everyone her WHOLE life.  Sheldon immediately liked her for who she is, but as soon as he started having feelings for her she started having to fight for affection from him as well (we've all read/posted long diatribes about how even their early camaraderie felt damaged by his withdrawl as their relationship progressed).  She never had ANY friends and even had to worm her way in with the Penny and Bernadette before she became accepted. (Remember The Hook-Up Reverberation?  "What if you just hang around and pretend to be her friend until you wear her down?  I mean the next thing you know you're in her home eating her food, drinking her wine...")  I would have loved for there to be ONE person, ONE place where she was immediately loved and welcomed with open arms without having to earn/justify/prove herself worthy.  Meemaw could have been the perfect opportunity for that...now I'm not sure there is anywhere for it to be found on the show, and that makes me a little sad for Amy.

Amy's statement to Meemaw that she "is his best shot."  As if that's all that matters - like Sheldon was looking for a woman and he is so difficult and so out there that he should just take her because she's his best shot.  What the literal hell?  The right answer has something to do with the fact that they LOVE each other and they GET each other like no one else every could they WANT to be together.  Not because he can't get someone better or because he's getting old and just needs to have someone so he's gotta take what he can get or whatver.  I really, really hated the wording here.

Amy complaining about how much "she puts up with" with Sheldon.  Sweetie, this was the moment to confess your love for Sheldon, to tell Meemaw why you two are so good together, to show her that you're the best thing in the world for her beloved Moonpie, not for you to gripe about how difficult he is.

That Amy didn't say anything after Meemaw said that she really hurt him with the breakup "and I don't want that to happen again."  It would have been awesome to hear "It won't" or "I don't want that either" or "We both made mistakes in the past but we've gotten beyond that and the important thing now is the future" or "I'm sorry, it hurts me to know I hurt him, too" or anything, really.  How great would a little speech about how she loves him and wants to spend the rest of her life proving it to him and to Meemaw and everyone else in the world (since the ring had already come up they were already down the rabbit hole, she totally could have said something like that.)  I would have just loved for her to say something that showed Meemaw that this really was the real thing, that Amy really wasn't out to hurt him and be able to giver her REAL blessing going forward.

So yeah, LOTS of good.  My one gripe really is that, though Meemaw was acting kind of like a b*tch I think Amy blew a chance here...though she was backed into a corner and attacked repeatedly, so she wasn't in her right mind I'm quite sure.  But overall, yes, lots of good, too.  I'll be interested to see how/when/if this whole debacle is ever mentioned again...

This is hard for me too, mainly because Amy had such a strained relationship with her own family and growing up she didn't have a warm loving accepting environment. I would have loved for Amy to find that loving family with Meemaw.

I am hoping with the parallels between "Meemaw and PopPop" and "Sheldon and Amy", that they will have that relationship and it will bloom into that, maybe even at the wedding or a future episode. Or maybe Amy and Mary will bond over it ...maybe Mary and her mom don't have a good relationship and Mary likes that Amy stood up against Meemaw.

Either way I am soooo excited to see the episode and more excited for whats to come.  Also, thank you to everyone who went to the taping for sharing your experience!

Thank you so much, jlove, for such a detailed report.   Spreading love for you all around.

Now about the spoilers, I'm going to reserve final judgment until I see the final episode, but I am shuddering a bit here:

1.  I guess Amy got Meemaw's cookie recipe from Mary, since it seems Mary is her fan and not Meemaw.

2.  I have to wash the egg off my face.   I honestly thought Meemaw would love Amy, and that she was only upset about the break up.   However, there seems to be more causing her demeanor towards her.   Also, I misunderstood the info from the chatroom last night that said Meemaw let the ring slip unintentionally.   Definitely sounds deliberate here.  So, I have to take back some of my earlier post.

3.  Meemaw chastised Amy for not knowing why Sheldon calls her moon pie, but why is this Amy's fault if Sheldon has chosen not to reveal it to her?   If Penny knows more than Amy, it is because Sheldon has revealed more to Penny.    Sheldon has been outted by his own grandmother for being neglectful in letting Amy into his life.   Penny has always gotten dibs on Amy regarding Sheldon's intentions, including wanting coitus with her.

4.  It seems Meemaw is old-fashioned, thinking that because Sheldon is so accomplished that Amy should give up her career and to support and take care of him because that is what he needs.   I guess Meemaw is not a feminist.  (Is this a foreshadow of things to come, arguments between Shamy on career vs. family?   Sheldon thinks neurobiology is stupid anyway.  Oh no!)

5.  Sheldon will give Amy his genitals but says she will never sit in his spot.   Sounds like S4/S5 Sheldon all over again.   Cringing here.

6.  Amy is with Sheldon because she thinks she is his best shot.   Does she think she is some kind of prize?   What?

7.  Amy insults the ring by calling it a hand-me-down.   I thought she'd be more appreciative.

8.  Is Sheldon defending Amy because he wants to or because Penny put him up to it from the other room?

I'm just concerned that some of these things are a foreshadowing of drama to come, but at the same time it makes me wonder if Meemaw is pulling a Mary and testing the waters just to make sure that Sheldon and Amy both know and are sure about where they are headed by playing indifference with "I guess so" in her blessing at the end.

Now for the cute moments:

1.  Sheldon loves the way Amy dresses.

2.  Sheldon being all affectionate with Amy while defending her.

3.  Sheldon admitting to his "sin" in front of his Meemaw.   He's not ashamed at all.

4.  Meemaw confirming that happiness and longevity can be achieved being married to a difficult man and she doesn't want to see Sheldon hurt by someone who perhaps doesn't get that.

5.  Sheldon and his trains again.   It's good to know that his being mugged during his 45-day trek didn't ruin it for him.

The writers are causing Meemaw to be Sheldon's voice over the break up.    Through her, Amy really gets to understand just how badly she hurt Sheldon.  He is so smitten with Amy right now, he doesn't want to broach the subject himself.  He is absolutely convinced that he wouldn't know what he does now if the break up didn't happen.  That shows growth on his part, even if he wants to turn the tables toward her to take the spotlight off himself.   The key is that Amy gets it by smiling back and translating for him.

Obviously, Shamy still have some work to do on their relationship, but it seems they are getting there.

I'm looking forward to how all this plays out on screen.

I am just using this post as a basis for my thoughts.  There seem to be some people who are upset with a few things Sheldon said in this episode--things that are reminiscent of old Sheldon.  First of all, I am not surprised he would say some of the things he says.  Yes, he is beginning to change but I think we forget it will take time for any changes to be totally ingrained in him.  He will go back to S4/S5 Sheldon on occasion.  When we are trying to change ourselves for whatever reason, it can be difficult to always maintain that new change in ourselves.  In fact, if I remember, from a post Mayim Bialik wrote when Shamy reconciled, she did say that Sheldon will probably continue to annoy Amy.  It's not all roses, guys!  The writers, therefore, are being realistic about it.  Change doesn't happen overnight.  There's no magic formula to it.  Sheldon will continue to say things that arecringe-worthy--to the average viewer, he is still Sheldon.  I think there are a lot of us who are still in a honeymoon phase with this couple.

I'll intone my usual Wednesday mantra...

The taping reports and tidbits from the attendees are beyond awesome.  There are not enough ways for me personally to express my gratitude to generous people who supply us with information.

But...

The finished product...edited and polished up can often come across very differently.  Facial expressions, vocal intonation, body language, close-ups, reaction shots, etc.

I can't wait to see this episode.

Me either, for just those reasons!!!  :-)

I didn't hear the recipe mentioned at all.  Meemaw did say "Sheldon may think I'm just here to bake him cookies, but the real reason for my visit is to size you up" to Amy, but that was the only mention of cookies I heard.  And the only time I heard Mary mentioned was when Meemaw said Mary might be ok with Amy, but she (Meemaw) wasn't so sure.

With regard to the editing....in the Skywalker episode Chuck made them re-shoot an entire tag scene.  So we have no way of knowing what will and will not make it into the final product.  There are lines from last night's taping that might be deemed too harsh, too sappy or too out of character to be put on the air.  We shall see.

Try to see this in a positive way like I'm trying to do: she still didn't realized how much Sheldon loves her and that she is not his best shot. GIRRRL YOU'RE THE ONE AND ONLY, CAN'T YOU SEE???

I think we're all mostly positive and excited about this episode -- we just gotta get out the jitters we have before it airs so we can hope for the best but expect.... not the "worst" but not the best  we're shippers. we overanalyze and nitpick and still end up ultimately worshipping TPTB; it's our thing! :icon_cheesygrin:

I assumed Amy got the recipe from Meemaw because at that time in the Christmas episode things were going fine and Meemaw wouldn't object to giving Sheldon's gf the recipe- anything for her Moonpie! As for Meemaw disliking Amy before the breakup, I'm still holding onto the idea that Meemaw's dislike was the result of Amy's initiation of the breakup and nothing more. Meemaw knew Sheldon was in love and was going to propose and there was no objection from Mary or Meemaw back then. Once Sheldon was dumped he no doubt shared with them both HIS side of the breakup-- his confusion as to why, his belief that her affections changed, etc etc. That version would no doubt piss Meemaw off. We don't see Meemaw during the six month breakup because there was no need. But a reconciliation with Amy? Oh you betcha!

As for Meemaw's stance on Amy's occupation I'm kinda confused. Why is it ok for Penny to work but not so much Amy? Eh, who knows. I can say this- my Dad is a Texan from a small town and they are still pretty old school there, housewives are the norm in that town and my grandmother was very much the "a ladies place is at home" kind of a woman.

#6 and #8 though, yikes! Same thoughts went through my head when I read that. I thought we were done with them both taking each other for granted. This idea that Sheldon can't do any better than Amy is off-putting. Maybe she forgot that it was SHE that went back to Sheldon...and cmon, I really do hope that Sheldon didn't have to be nudged once again by his friends to do the right thing (like the Star Wars premier where Lenny both have to plant the seed before Proton takes over and Sheldon chooses correctly)...I'll have to see how that (and the other stuff) plays out.

What did you think of Amy asking Penny if she knew about the ring? I think you and I both thought that this would be an issue for Amy someday, I had to laugh when I read that Amy asked Penny this and Penny scurries away...

The ring is finally out there, I did not see the Meemaw connection to it coming! So much for the Spock film, or Sheldon's ability to surprise Amy. Now that it's out there it will be interesting to see how the writers craft a proposal, assuming that it is still on the table (and I am)....

I liked the good stuff that you listed as well. I like that Sheldon stood by Amy (whether he was prodded or came to it himself) and that he compares his relationship to that of Meemaw's. I'm still not sure about that statement Sheldon makes about the "growth" that one of them was able to achieve through the breakup, I'm hoping he was referring to his growth and not suggesting Amy had to grow up ( of course they BOTH did).

Im pretty happy how things seemed to have been left after the episode, Shamy looks pretty solid all things considered.

Yeah, the cookie recipe:  As I explained to vonmar, I had posted the same as you earlier that I thought Meemaw only didn't like Amy for breaking up with Sheldon.   The TR makes her sound so extremely harsh for having liked her at one time.

On the occupation thing I guess Meemaw, like her grandson, doesn't take Leonard's job seriously.  So, Penny has to work to support them.   I'm not really sure what to make of this.    However, I do get the impression that Meemaw is informing Amy that Sheldon needs a lot of attention, so Amy better be prepared to give it to him.   Of course, Meemaw is likely speaking from the mentality that a woman is supposed to stay home and care for the house and her man.   There is nothing wrong with this, if that is what Amy wants to do and Sheldon and Amy agree on it together.   Perhaps Sheldon told Meemaw that Amy chose staying at her conference over coming home and taking care of him while he was sick.    We just don't know what information he is feeding her.

I am very put off about Amy's line about being Sheldon's best shot.   I don't think she meant it as an insult.   The more I think about it, perhaps she is telling Meemaw that she should like her because she does put up with Sheldon and already loves him in spite of it all.   It took (5) years.   The chances of Sheldon finding that again are slim to none.    However, I think Amy forgets the reason she is even his best shot is because Sheldon chose and opened himself to her.  It's a two-way street and not all about what she's done for him.

I think Sheldon was nudged by his friends because he was afraid to stand up to his Meemaw.   My concern is if they didn't, would we have gotten the defense fest that we did?   True, he did it Sheldon-style trying to divert the issue from himself to Amy, but I love how Amy redirected it to address both of them rather than singling him out.   She helped him save face in front of his grandmother.   I'm sure that impressed her.

I keep forgetting that Meemaw's impressions of Amy are biased based on the information that Sheldon has shared through his filter.   She really doesn't know Amy's version.   However, Meemaw seems to understand how difficult Sheldon is, so the reasons for Amy's break up decision don't matter to her.   What she really wants to know is if Amy has learned something and is she going to stick by her man through thick or thin, even if the thick outweighs the thin.

The ring.   Yes, I am ecstatic that Amy called Penny out on knowing about the ring.   It's just further proof of everything Amy missed out on as a result of her actions.    By shutting everyone out, they essentially kept her in the dark as well.

Yes, Amy had reasons to break up with Sheldon, but she's reeling the consequences over how she did it by learning how much she underestimated and hurt Sheldon.   She's not going to make that mistake again, and I think these recent Skype sessions we've been given prove that she is trying to do a better job at understanding the things Sheldon is trying to say before jumping to conclusions.   If she has something that needs to be said, she's choosing her arguments more carefully by doing so in a way that Sheldon can grasp her meaning and react accordingly.

I agree that they look pretty solid, for now.  I hope it continues.

I'm very happy with the shamy meemaw stuff from.the episode
I was beginning to think I'm the only one

I was there and I too am a bit stunned too. Overall it ends great and was well built. And the "I am the best Its gonna get" reminded me of spoiler alert when she said to Sheldon "I am the best girlfriend you are ever gonna get". Didnt feel mean spirited or self-righteous more Amy defending herself. To each is own though so all good.

Also people still keep bringing up the cookies. It was clear and verbalized she is only sizing her up because she broke him and she is his possible future.

I think this episode might actually be a limited version of the "talk" we were all waiting for Amy and Sheldon to have about the breakup.... and if I let my optimistic side out to play, it makes me believe this episode will make them even more sure of their future together.

to be fair though, jena's post (and that of a few of us here) are critical of things Amy has said/ done too. her comments to Meemaw about being Sheldon's best chance for example...Shamy shippers were put through the ringer this season. i think what youre seeing is some of us expressing our anxiety over the things we see and nervousness about whether we are truly over some of that ugliness of the first 9 episodes of the season.

i think for me personally its less about being critical of our favorite couple and more about being freaked out at the possibility of future drama yet to unfold, and lessons not learned by Shamy through this breakup.

i want more of the fun that a great sitcom offers and less drama, well intentioned or not :)
