[Spoilers] Shamy: Season 9

Also we don't know how much she knows of what Sheldon's been through, how badly he was hurt etc. Maybe it hasn't occurred to her that he was confinding with Meemaw (or anyone) about the break up, etc...

I apologize if it's all incoherent, it is 7am and i probably should go to sleep after spending another night discussing Shamy  x D This ship is really bad for my sleep patterns!

Sleep patterns disrupted here too ! I made it to bed at 6 am today, which is early compared with the last few days reading this ship.

It's possible Meemaw referred to her 'Moonpie' on some occasion on the phone and Amy partly remembered it so it could have rung a faint bell.

It's also possible Amy had an idea Sheldon would confide in his mother and his meemaw. Mary might have even phoned Amy to find out for herself how true it was that they had broken up. Just because Amy can't confide in her own mother doesn't mean she's not learned by now that other people talk to their own parents and grandparents. What Amy can't guess is the extent to which Sheldon appears to have lied. It seems as though Meemaw was led to believe Amy broke his heart. Heartbroken he was indeed, we saw some of that, but Sheldon obviously didn't tell Meemaw he did it to himself, that he was the one who forced the issue.

Now he's gone and been an even bigger swine by not warning Amy what he'd told Meemaw, instead leading Amy to believe she was finally going to meet this sweet old lady who would love her on sight. So he's prejudiced Meemaw and goodness-knows- who-else in his family against Amy. He really ought to put that right. However much they'll acknowledge the reconciliation she'll be 'that cow Sheldon's  married to' for the rest of her life if he doesn't do something towards acquainting the matriarch of that side of the family with his own responsibility for what happened to him.

Morning peeps! Let me clear up and give a more in depth shamy reportings!   There were 2 takes of the second kiss... As they finish kissing the first time round. They break apart. Sheld

Ok fellow Shamies, I typed up this report on the plane home just now. I've just landed and have another hour or so until I'll be home, but I thought I'd post this at least for you all real quick.  Sor

Oh...I thought someone has already posted a TR? No? Ok. First of all, English is not my first language, so I may have misunderstood a lot of the lines. Please forgive me if the episode turns out

oo, interesting! In a 'you bastards have been enabling him all this time! No wonder I sometimes felt like I was being shoved into the role of mommy!' Sort of way? Man I would love that. I would love Amy to draw a line and say 'i love you but there is no way I am going to cater to your every whim. You are my boyfriend and at some point you will be my husband. You are NOT my child and there is no way in hell that I am going to be your mommy or your meemaw.' I am a fan of the fact that , to a large degree, when amy calls him on his shit, she does it as one adult to another. I shiver uncomfortably at any suggestion (e.g. The thanksgiving episode where she instructs him to apologise, or indecision where she uses a very mommy-esque fake-interested voice) that amy is Sheldon's put-upon mommy figure as well as his lover. Even the episode where he has a cold? I am uncomfortable with the idea that amy (who is actually less socialised even than Sheldon!) would show him how to be better. I much prefer arrogant, spirited Amy saying she is the best there is, slapping down meemaw and barking at her to not treat Sheldon like a baby. Quite right, doctor fowler.

Yep. I mean, in the end Sheldon exploiting Lenny's willingness to pamper him needs to be addressed in some way to resolve the issue with the living arrangements. Someone needs to make a first step here. Maybe Lenny come to their senses all alone or with the help of Dr. Gallo if they continue to see her. Or Sheldon has an epiphany of some sorts that he wants to move on with his own life and doesn't want to take care of Lenny anymore (because of course that's how he'd see the situation).

But with the news from yesterday's taping I'm still on a "YOU GO, AMY! THAT'S MY GIRL!!!" high. Not all of what she said might have been perfect but I take Amy defending herself (and Sheldon and their relationship) even with unkind or unwisely chosen words over the Amy who's meek and tip-toeing around other people any day. I feel that now after the breakup she's regrown her spine and makes good use of that. So she could be the one to throw a wrench in the machinery here.

And yes, I don't want to see her in a mommy or caretaker role for Sheldon so I'm so so happy that she flat out states that he shouldn't be treated as a child (this better not be cut from the final episode ugh). It really makes me hope that when they move in together the writers will make a point to have her move in as an equal partner and not his new babysitter. I can even forgive the occasional mommy-esque moment as long as the broad strokes paint a coherent picture of an adult relationship.

Quote

although that said, I still cackle uncontrollably at 'the launch acceleration' where amy is explicitly accelerating sheldon's emotional attachment to her by linking herself to cherished memories of his childhood and Mary (via sausage-spaghetti). But! But! I am hoping that that is because what is so awesome about that episode is that amy is explicitly telling Sheldon what she is doing, and showing off her big brain and her neurobiological bag of tricks. Yep. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

That's what I love about that episode as well. Sheldon's "Oh-oh" look when he finds that her neurobiological bag of tricks is working on him is priceless! lol I never saw her methods as her specifically putting her into a mommy-role or whatever since she's doing a lot of other things as well. Cooking his favourite meal was just one of them.

Nice video EvilStewie, alhough, personally, I prefer the Cher version, of the song.

Also, I'm wondering if we could work If I Could Back Time, into the Shamy breakup clips?

Slight edits, and an audio swap for you!!

First of all: Thank you to everyone who shared details about the episode! And jlove: Thank you so much for the great report! :good:

Hesitating a bit to share my thoughts because they are biased due to personal experiences, on the other hand - so are most of our opinions... :icon_cheesygrin:

Okay, I simply hate the fact that sometimes our parents (or grandparents) think they need to tell us what to do and how to live our lives. Yes, I know, they do it because they love us, but hey, once we are grown up it is our life, and we need to make our own mistakes. That does not mean they cannot give advice (preferrably  when asked for it), but to tell someone who to marry or not to marry after about half an hour of knowing this person...ugh...no.

So I can totally understand that Amy was pissed off. And everything she said then (hand me down ring, being his best shot...), results from this anger. As she said: Sheldon is a grown man, and maybe if the people around him would stop putting up with everything he does he would learn to act like one. The fact that some people continue to pamper him (Mary and esp. Meemaw) results in the people living with him on a daily basis having to deal with the consequences.

Maybe if someone would have told him as a kid that it is not okay to verbally abuse others when you are sick he wouldn't have done it his whole life?

I'm absosutely okay with Amy learning about the heartbreak she caused him. And I'm okay with Meemaw telling her. But I got the impression that Meemaw wants Amy to continue to pamper her special boy (him needing more care...). And I just love that Amy somewhat tells her: No! I will not make the same mistake, I will let him grow up! :good: Maybe Meemaw realized something here? Maybe she has been too soft with her Moonpie? Maybe he is capable of so much more if you only let him? :shok:

And I also love that Sheldon proofs this to her by showing how much he has grown, how much he cares for Amy...and still continues to be Sheldon. :icon_cheesygrin:

So all in all this appears to be a great story that shows how much Shamy has grown as a couple!

Oooookay...ugh...just realized: In a few years when my eldest comes home with her first boyfriend, I hope I will remember what I said here... xD

Yes to the part in bold.  You have said what I was thinking.  Bravo!

I think he looks adorable while he's chatting to Amy lying on his bed. He is just a bundle of cuteness !!.

Maybe late to the party but here is my two cents. After reading everyone's posts I'm just not bothered by what is bothering most people.

1) The and you never will line about his spot. The writers have to set up Amy to be somewhat...resentful? Of Memaw from the start. It is like the flowers with Mary. Yes these are the two most important woman in your life.... When am I going to be on that list and get allowances made? I am sure also later in the game when Amy is welcomed in his spot that line will make it all tbe sweeter.

2) The "I'm is best shot" line. It is true! Memaw needs to hear that. If she wants her Moonpie to have grandkids then better start liking Amy. The man is 35 and just lost his virginity. Obviously no other woman stood a chance with him. Also I know we all love him, adore him, think we could put up with his quirks... In actuality if he wereva real person many of us would not last a day. Amy embraces his quirks, she needed a break to realize that she could handle them. That a man without them just is not the same. Also to the poster @cryptokitty who I am too lazy to find to quote. What the actual f**k? How has Penny done things for him Amy has not? Penny rolls her eyes at every turn. Is exasperated by his almost every action. Amy is his only shot!  Get used to it old woman. This makes the virginity line even funnier.

Would I have prefered Memaw to love Amy right off the bat and spend the evening baking cookies, looking at baby pics? Hell yes! But being from the south I know us mothers and grandmothers do not let go of our menfolk graciously. I am 100% sure I will be a heinous bitch to the women  my sons bring home. I will need an Amy to call me on my crap.

Loved your take on this, very interesting and put a whole new spin on things for me - thank you :)

lol It's adorable! I don't think we've ever seen him casually lounging around like that, have we? I suppose it shows how relaxed he is these days.

This totally makes me think of girls gossiping at a slumber party and I love how Sheldon is in that informal "whatcha doin?" position while he's skyping with Amy :)

****

And there are too many people I wanna quote so I'll just make a new post and add on to a bunch of things people have said regarding 9.14:

- There are going to be a few cringeworthy lines between Sheldon, Meemaw, and Amy (the moonpie reference, Sheldon never letting Amy sit in his spot, Amy being his "best shot", the "hand me down ring".... ugh) BUT I'm hoping the ends of this meeting will justify the means (literally MEAN! lol)

- I'm starting to feel more positive about Amy saying she's Sheldon's "best shot". I don't know what the line is right before she says it (can anyone clarify?), but I'm starting to think it's her saying "I know you don't want to see Sheldon hurt again. He is more susceptible to getting hurt because in many ways he's still a child and he is very emotionally vulnerable, but I've known him over 5 years and been his gf for most of that time and I know how difficult he can be. But I have also seen how much he has grown as a man. And despite our difficulties and breakup, I love him and will do everything in my power to make sure he always feels loved and doesn't get hurt. There's no one else that I could ever love as much as him, and as such, there's no one who could love him and want to make a wonderful future with him as much as I do. I'm his best shot at giving him the happiness you and I both want for him."..... and ok, maybe I'm being overly optimistic because I don't know Amy's tone when she says this - but even saying it in a snarky way I can't imagine Amy sincerely means "I'm the best he's gonna get so you're gonna have to accept me because no one else will take him!" but if the writers did mean it this way I'm gonna be pissed lol

- I also think Amy is putting Meemaw in her place about Sheldon needing to be an adult, and that maybe she is his "best shot" in helping him make that journey because she'll be by his side

- I think Sheldon is already showing major signs of becoming an adult just in THIS episode -- he stands by Amy and tells his precious Meemaw that they're in love and they know what they're doing. Moonpie is becoming a man ;)

- I hope when Meemaw responds to Amy's question about getting her blessing and she says "I guess..." she isn't implying "ugh, I don't have a choice so I guess" but more "I guess... because I hate to admit it but you're right. I hope you truly make each other happy."

*hooray for overthinking!!!!!*

I love this post 1,000,000 times.

You made me feel so much better about Amy's side of things, and I really enjoy this perspective.   I'm going to go with it.   So, it's not Amy being entitled, it's Amy standing up to not enabling Sheldon any longer.   She is his "best shot" because she is the only one willing to help him become a better man and person by not treating him like a child and still love him as his partner, not his mother.

Sheldon recognizes this about her, and that is why he loves her.   That's why he listens to her, because he knows she is acting in his best interest.

Going backwards an episode, it causes me to appreciate how she addresses how unbearable he is when he sick, so much so that she admits to avoiding him, too.  Sheldon knew he was wrong.   That is why he reached out to Amy to help him understand why.    I will have to admit, though, I cringe a little when Amy comes up with a reason to discontinue the Skype conversation and reaches for the "End" key on the keyboard.   It reminds me every time of the Skype call where she broke up with him.

I still can't get over how adorable Sheldon looks in the privacy of his dark bedroom in his pajamas Skyping her, not with the computer in his lap but so intimately comfortable on his stomach.  I wanted to give him a teddy bear.   Watching his legs kicking back and forth in the background like a giddy boy in love just gives me fuzzies all over.

I love your humility in that you recognize that it may be difficult to follow your own advice when it comes to your own children.

Thank you for such an insightful post.   This is a perfect example of why I enjoy reading opposing views.   Sometimes my perspective is changed as a result of someone else's well thought out argument.

eta: Given the environment in the s9 thread right now, I wish to make it clear that when I say 'bastards' above in my post, I mean it with love. I think Lenny are almost always adorable with Sheldon.

I find it pathetic and sad that it has come to this, where we have to clarify everything we say or be politically correct to keep from offending.

Perhaps the one being offended should consider that their offense is offensive.

So others don't think I'm pointing fingers, I want to clarify that I never exclude myself from my own words.

With that I am done on this subject, now back to happy Shamy feels.

All of the Meemaw stuff could be fixed with a 12 second scene of her alone making a phone call saying, "You're right, Mary. She's the one".

Also, people seem to be mad at Amy for the way she tried to get Sheldon back after the aquarium, but to me it makes sense.  All she ever wanted was time, but Sheldon didn't give that to her and was a jerk, so she was pushed further than she wanted and broke up with him.

She turned down 2 guys and didn't start dating until he said he was trying to move on.

She just wanted to take a step back and if it hadn't spiraled out of control, it would have been reasonable to basically be like, "okay.  I've had enough time. I want to be your girlfriend".

Did Sheldon just admit that he's been in love with Amy for the last five years?

Well, we've always known he's been smitten with her since "Hello," even though he was in denial.

Speaking of "Hello," I just love the way it just rolls off his tongue when he speaks to her, even in person.

I am probably missing it somewhere, but people keep mentioning Amy saying something about Sheldon being a grown man in the Meemaw episode. Is that part in the taping report? I have read it a few times and I'm not seeing it. When does that happen?

Thanks so much for the spoilers to all those who attended the taping!

I think I forgot it when I typed up the report, but mentioned it later.  At some point, while Sheldon is still there, she tells Meemaw to either stop talking to him like a child or stop treating him like a child, I can't remember which.  She either says he's a grown up or a (grown?) man...
