From the empathy to the entire Meemaw stuff, if she wants him for life, she wants a man and she will NOT be a replacement for a mommy in his life. And he is going along with this. I also think this will help push him away from the sotto Mommy & Daddy Lenny even more. Love this!! Yes that has been tbe theme of the season. Get Sheldon from boy to man. He has grown so much and I know he will grow even more the rest of tbe season.

Agreed...in the first Skype scene he is laying on his stomach in his PJ's talking to his girl... having a sweet chat with his Amy. How are you feeling? How can I answer in a gentle loving way? Second Skype he is in his clothes sitting with his back against the headboard with the laptop in his lap. This is when she gently guides him into working on being a better person. Two Skype scenes, two very different conversations, staged very differently. Nicely done.

I always love him , but Raj poledancing just stole my heart hahaha. One of my fav non-Shamy moments this season for sure! I wish we'd see more of the party Raj, he's so in his element ! Popular Post vonmar Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 From The AV Club: http://www.avclub.com/tvclub/heartfelt-episode-big-bang-theory-sees-sheldon-rec-230785 Throughout this season of The Big Bang Theory, there’s been one consistent story and character arc amongst the rest of the stagnant bunch. Ever since Sheldon and Amy broke up, the show has done a wonderful job of exploring, with nuance and patience, the feelings, actions, and inactions that created the divide between the two seemingly compatible partners. Most of that exploration has focused on Sheldon because he was the one who needed to grow and mature the most. Amy had been more than patient with him, and it was time for him to take responsibility for his role in the demise of their relationship. That led to a genuinely earned reconciliation stretched across numerous episodes. While “The Empathy Optimization” isn’t nearly as deep or fulfilling as those episodes that took a hard look at Sheldon and Amy, it does once again prove that the show’s strength lies in its ability to question and critique its characters. Sheldon has legitimately grown this season, but that doesn’t mean his work is done. He’s repaired his relationship with Amy, but he still struggles to open up to his closest friends. That changes a bit when Sheldon, after lashing out at his friends (and Emily—yeah, I said it) when they try to take care of him when he’s sick, realizes that he’s been insensitive and cruel to the people he cherishes the most (and Emily). That’s where his relationship with Amy comes in. She’s the one that helps him come to that realization after he complains to her via Skype about their reactions to him. The idea that Amy is staying in Michigan to avoid being around sick Sheldon is a little much, especially considering where they left off, but the essence of their relationship is there, with Amy guiding him in social situations and him being more open to accepting her help and criticisms.

It makes sense that Meemaw would let Sheldon have it to pass on. If Missy had it she would have to hold onto it until a guy asked her to marry him, and then she would have to give HIM the ring to give her lol. Awkward. Mary says it is her grandmother's ring and she seems to have the responsibility and the decision-making power. Meemaw's mother or mother-in-law would have been the last to wear it as an engagement ring. Yes, the rings are given by the fiancé/husband to the fiancée/wife. Traditionally the engagement ring usually comes off on death if it hasn't been lost or destroyed earlier, and the wedding ring then either comes off or stays on to be buried with the wearer. For no particular reason, probably only because it's jewellery and she has a jewellery box, a female relative tends to take care of the ring(s). There won't be a hard and fast rule about how it's handed down unless it's in somebody's will and/or covered by law. Mary says Missy is married - ( meaning in that case she's got an engagement ring already ) - and she doesn't want her other son to have the ring. I agree it would have been a bit bizarre for Missy to get the ring upon her own engagement but it's a funny family. Mary was just dismissing the possible reasons for needing the ring back in a hurry in a way that Sheldon could take in at the time. Having said all that, I have known women wear their deceaseds' engagement rings as jewellery out of sentimentality on another finger or as a pendant. If it's a family with a tradition of handing a ring down she gives it up when it is wanted by a male relative for his fiancee. Here's a bit of nerdy trivia : in 1970 the law was changed in England and Wales to make the engagement ring the personal property of the woman. If the engagement was broken, she could keep the ring whether or not it was new when given. At the same time, jilted women could no longer sue for breach of promise. I have absolutely no idea what the law regarding heirlooms and marriage arrangement is in Texas.

Amy knocks on the door and Sheldon leaps off the chair and jumps to answer VERY excited. He says, "that's her! oh you're gonna love her, Meemaw... She has the same fashion sense as you." Amy comes in nervously, and Sheldon introduces them. Meemaw is nice and smiles. Sheldon is so excited, he says to Amy..."Ask her for tissue..> Go on..' Amy says... "Okay.. can i have a tissue and Meemaw says Sure and pulls a tissue outta of her sleeve. Sheldon says "she's just like spider man." Amy smiles, and Meemaw says something like "I dont understand that..." Cut scene. Angst with Amy and Meemaw.. Later scene: Amy is with Meemaw, and they have the conversation that she doesn't know what its like to date Sheldon. "You haven't had date night interrupted because Google changed their font." Meemaw says, I dont understand that, but I do understand what's like being with selfish man. AMy says, if you understand, why did you give me such a hard time? Meemaw says, "because you broke his heart when you broke up with him." SHeldon knocks at the door. Lenny makes Sheldon come in and sit with Meemaw and Amy on the couch, between them, on the middle cushion. Sheldon says something about how I want you two to get along, because she's my girlfriend and I have to defend her. SOmething like that. I wish I could remember the exact line. Amy says thank you SHeldon, that means a lot to me. Sheldon rolls his eyes and says "Oh lord now she is going to get emotional again", reaches over to Meemaw's sleeve and pulls out a tissue and hands it to Amy. Sheldon turns back to Meemaw and smiles. Meemaw says, well... if that's what you want...I wont stand in your way. Amy says... so... if he wanted to give me that ring... you wont mind. She says... I guess not. She pats Sheldon's shoulder like she almost did in the Best Buy scene.. You know... He turns back and says, "I just gave you my virginity... Cool your jets, woman." Amy drops her hand but still smiles. I hope that helped. @jlove has a better taping report than my memory about it. Yep, I just didn't think to put in the tissue scene, it was cute. When Sheldon says "I'm sorry Meemaw, but I have to defend my girlfriend," Amy says "Oh Sheldon, thank you..." Then he says something like "Oh boy, now you're going to get all emotional," reaches over into Meemaw's sleeve, pulls out a tissue and hands it to Amy before turning back to Meemaw to have the Pop-pop discussion I mentioned before. :-) These two! 2 hours ago, MAH_B said: JLove, your new fanfic just totally rocked my world. Popular Post Soopysue Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Guys I loved the episode, Amy helping guide Sheldon . They were adorable on Skpe and I laughed a lot during the whole episode - it was very well done. I agree that it still stings a little they had Amy stay away - but I'm not worried at all and do get the reasoning behind it . Also love the extra info about the tissue scene in the Meemaw episode , Awww . Thanks again guys Agree that this season is Sheldon becoming a man !!, in more ways than one !! . I love that he's totally trusting Amy's judgement to help him with this and is keen to get it right - he's not being dragged along as we've seen in early seasons but willingly listening and accepting her guidance and help - he wants this and I think is proud of himself when he "gets it " . Love it ! Now - about this ring , what do we think ?? Valentine's Day ? Or 200th or when we least expect it ? . Oh the suspense !!
Popular Post 2L344 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I really enjoyed tonight's episode, I'm always amazed how I go into the episodes thinking one thing after reading TR's but come out with a whole different vibe! Not a criticism of the TR's (I wait eagerly for them!), but sometimes the narratives lose something in the finished product when finally viewed...anyway, I enjoyed the Skype scenes and Shamy continues to look solid in my eyes! Amy truly appears to be helping Sheldon deal with this latest dilemma and I'm even okay with her delaying her return because she outted herself to Sheldon. Had she maintained the lie it would've been shady and a step back, but her letting Sheldon know that she remained in Detroit because of his illness was like saying she trusted the relationship enough that Sheldon would understand and forgive it. And frankly, he didn't seem too upset if at all. I love her dead delivery of her fake empathy when Sheldon told her to try it regarding her lie, and true to himself he completely misses the sarcastic delivery by Amy lol. Sheldon really paid attention to Amy's advice and had yet another epiphany in the process, that he truly had behaved poorly all this time. Armed with this newly discovered info he goes about in true Sheldon fashion to right the wrongs, and isn't deterred by the banter of the others. I liked seeing it, even if at times he might have looked a little self serving with the apologies....in the end Sheldon makes a very sincere apology to Emily in the bus, so much so that she later admits to Penny that she feels sorry for him even though she knows he's a jerk sometimes. To which Penny replies now you understand lol...and Sheldon makes the sincere gesture of not including himself on their trip for their sake, which Spurs the invite back on the bus. That giddy sprint back to the bus was hilarious! And poor Stuart too.... Other thoughts-- After the various scenarios of Sheldon being an ass to everyone was played out, I'm good with the Vegas retreat idea and didn't feel a lot of sympathy for Sheldon frankly. The gang was all there for him during the illness and didn't try to hide-they went out of their way to make him comfortable and he was a putz. I found it interesting that Wolowitz described the 6 month break up while discussing the Vegas trip as Amy taking some time off, which improved the relationship. "Time off"? You were all there and know it was a breakup lol... Sheldon describing Vegas as "America's urinal cake".....wow lol Amy telling Sheldon to "Now try it as if this isn't your first day as a person" after his insincere empathy line. Totally reminded me of when Sheldon asked her to be his girlfriend "Now try it without the quadruple negative".... I loved Sheldon's chortle and and giddiness when recalling his spellcheck tour of restaurant menus with Leonard, he looked so relaxed and happy despite having to start an apology tour! Sheldon catching himself mid-sentence when describing the Emily/Raj fight to Penny. the look he gives Penny when he realizes his description of the fight was not what she was asking, he gets it! Atta boy.... i found it interesting that Emily and Raj fight over her "standing up for herself" to Sheldon. I like how Raj described her stand as making him uncomfortable since it prolongs the fight with Sheldon. Kind of prefaces the upcoming stand that Amy is going to make with Meemaw, and maybe how Sheldon is going to feel too? Anyway, I gotta say that angry Emily scares the hell out of me lol.... I had a good time with this episode and though we still haven't had the group meal in 4A yet, this kind of felt like a group thing and it was funny! Yeah, the gang kind of unloaded on Sheldon, but he kinda had it coming and frankly Sheldon didn't appear to be hurt once he figured things out and was not deterred by the vibe. He took responsibility for his sins and did the right thing. I like it!
