You mean like how Leonard couldn't drink wine (because of the Sulphites) but now can?

Or when Sheldon, who is supposed to be allergic to cats, buys 25 cats...fun fact, Jim Parsons is for real allergic to cats, he had to be under antihistamines to shoot that episode! But again, had the writers stuck with "canon" so literally, we wouldn't have had "The Zazzy substitution" which was a really cute episode; other pets could not have done as well as cats, which are the pets you usually buy to fill a void, the joke was all about that...

I'm sorry if that's the goal, the plot would be Sheldon kept his birthday a secret from everyone but when Penny asked him, he told her.

However, in the show, Sheldon revealed his birthday for the sake of the experiment. Actually I just checked, the exact line was "The point of this experiment is to be completely honest with each other", if anything, I think Sheldon keeping the secret about his birthday was a way to show he's a man of science lol. Sorry that line and a large part of that episode to me was just the writers catering for the needs of some shippers whose name I won't say.

And there're plenty of ways to do a sweet friendship episode without being ridiculous. Also even if Penny didn't forget Leonard birthday, there could still be other explanations for him to read her diary, which leads to him wearing that carror suit.

I don't know...I don't mind Shenny friendly scenes, on the contrary I like them pretty much (the kiss of course is a whole different story, I hated every second of it) so that part of the episode was ok to me (the b plot was not so good, instead, JMO) and, even if the birthday stuff was not  believable, I can let it go.  Everything can be made in a different and sometimes better (sometimes worse) way, but unfortunately is not our job to do it; I don't think there was a subtle plan by the writers in both episodes to indicate that Sheldon is closer to Penny than to Amy or that Penny doesn't care enough about Leonard, sometimes jokes may be funny or irritating, but they are just jokes...

Morning peeps! Let me clear up and give a more in depth shamy reportings!   There were 2 takes of the second kiss... As they finish kissing the first time round. They break apart. Sheld

Ok fellow Shamies, I typed up this report on the plane home just now. I've just landed and have another hour or so until I'll be home, but I thought I'd post this at least for you all real quick.  Sor

Oh...I thought someone has already posted a TR? No? Ok. First of all, English is not my first language, so I may have misunderstood a lot of the lines. Please forgive me if the episode turns out

I find mistakes in TV series irritating when I know an actor has been playing a part for years and could have said something when s/he saw the script. Perhaps I'm being fanciful in believing  all actors know their character.

Keep in mind that a lot of these things that are "hard facts" for us fans are just throwaway gags for the general audience and more often than not less than a faint memory for most actors. They learn a ton of lines and probably forget most of them the moment the episode is done filming. It's really the writer's job to keep track of continuity.

I don't mind Shenny friendly scenes either, as long as they don't involve people not knowing their husband/boyfriend's birthday.

The second part, well I guess that's the problem, I just don't find not knowing other people's birthday funny. But that's just me...

Yes they are. That's why I thought it would be funny for Raj to catch it. If it came in his direction his cricketer's instinct might kick in. :) (He could of course then hand it to whichever lady he'd brought with him. )

Heh. With a triumphant 'Howzat?', as he looks for the umpire to signal 'wicket'?

I'm from  nineteen - fifties Wales :):) and remember when teatime TV was always a children's zone. Channel 4 (Can't speak for S4Cymru as we couldn't get it in my part of England until last year) donkeys' years ago broke the convention of post-9pm by putting Friends on at children's traditional viewing time. Naturally it became popular with children, as does anything with a bit of rudery in it. Where Ch4 were coming from, goodness knows.  In the years since then we've had digital TV arrive and there have been separate children's channels developed so there hardly seems to be a concept of a 'watershed' any more. BBC and ITV have moved all their children's programmes across to CBBC and CITV. What's happened to Schools Broadcasting I don't know.

Ch4 shows Frasier in the morning even during school holidays (used to be after 10 pm ) and Ch4E shows The Big Bang Theory throughout the day (I've given up housework for ever) with Ch4 showing it late Saturday mornings.  I have noticed, though, that in the daytime some lines such as 'I went to the library to find out what a whore did' and 'This store gives you genital warts' get altered or are omitted from TBBT but are included in the later evening editions. Even so, there's some risqué stuff left in that wouldn't have been allowed when I was growing up - not that we had daytime TV apart from Schools' programming then. Good job. I'd have been a perpetual truant.

Yeah no. Teatime is not children's viewing time lol! C4/E4 show daytime edited sitcoms (including Big Bang) there is no rudeness and they even edited out the word "condom" from an Episode of Big Bang once.

I'm form the UK too and Friends was never a kids show!

I knew this probably had been discussed before but I just thought of this.

In 902, Sheldon said Amy made him a birthday cake once ("Let's talk about the time Moldova made Romania a birthday cake, and Romania said it tasted good even though it didn't"). Considering before 8x16, nobody knew Sheldon's birthday and it was less than one year between 816 and 902, we could assume that Amy made him a birthday cake in 8x16 after Penny told (or texted) everyone about Sheldon's birthday. And there really was a cake on the table in 8x16.

However, the love experiment only took a few hours, at most. And the question that made Sheldon reveal his birthday was NO. 33. How could Amy make a cake in a hour or two? Maybe it would make more sense that Amy, Leonard, Emily and Raj bought a cake on their way home.

I don't know where I'm going with this lol...Guess what I'm trying to say is that it's ridiculous that Amy didn't know Sheldon's birthday before 8x16.

5 minutes or so to put the ingredients together, bake for 30 minutes and another 5-10 to decorate and a cake is possible.

... but maybe it was bad cus it was rushed ;)

OR Amy knew his birthday the whole time and had previously baked him a cake and had a private celebration for the two of them and played along cus she had previously promised to not tell the others?

Yeah, I mean, making a cake in that time period is possible, but the cake on the table looks like a pre-made, store-bought cake (sheet cake with those little balloons and on a black tray). However, I honestly cannot accept that Amy didn't know Sheldon's birthday. Logically, she must have, which means she was following his wishes these years? It just doesn't make sense for her not to, but that would be so sloppy. Her playing along with his 'no one knows' wish seems like the only reasonable option (if you disregard it just being a throwaway thing).

(And man, that episode was a weird choice.)

I liked it (the episode) but the cake thing might just have to be one of those throw away lol-lines that they come up with just for jokes with no regard for the continuity of the show. I hate those lines and the constant contradictions but If I think about it too hard I get a nose bleed ;)

I also hate lines like that. I liked the episode (not a lot, admittedly), but I don't know if that's because I didn't like it in the context of the episodes around it (if that makes sense).

Out of topic,

Back to season 2, that I am watching right now, episode 2 :

Leonard : "if science ever discovers a second member of your species, and you two would like some privacy I would be happy to get out of your way.

Sheldon : well, all right, then."

well, that just made me smile. :) We all know someone kinda in his species came over almost 2 years after.

I'd like to see that come back with Sheldon requesting some privacy lol!

I've always figured this was the case, since he gave her an actual copy of his personal information from his HR record at CalTech.  Not to mention she isn't the type who would say "Oh, you just don't want to tell me your birthday?  Ok, I'll accept that for YEARS."  Ha, yeah right!  Lol

Yeah, maybe that's really what it takes...

Cold open: Sheldon's room. Shamy in blissful post coitus glow. "Happy birthday, Sheldon." They cuddle.

Cut to: Leonard's room. Lenny lying wide awake in shock. "You said they wouldn't be here tonight!" - "I didn't know." - "Tomorrow we move out."

Cue opening credits!

This is genius btw (my internet cut out before I could quote you

'They're screamers, too!'

'Both of them!'

''Thank God the screaming was in their made-up language!'

'Yeah'..... (beat) 'what if we start picking up the language?

'That's it. We're moving out right now.'

Sheldon doesn't know as much about the female menstrual cycle as he thinks, if he thinks his meemaw still has one or anything close to "regular"

Sorry, heard it wrong. Not familiar with the word cync, is it the same as sync, i.e. from synchron? Well, than he should really brush up on his biology, meemaw must be at least in her late seventies.
