I thought I'd share my thoughts (and confusion) about the Meemaw episode. I read the TR before viewing the episode but decided not to weigh in on the Meemaw/Amy "face-off" until it aired.  In both cases, I was really surprised by how Meemaw and Amy interacted. It seemed like they were strangers who had never spoken before.  Forgive me but I was under the impression from episode 8x11 (The Clean Room Infiltration) that Amy spoke with Meemaw:

Sheldon: Cookies?
Amy: They're your MeeMaw's Christmas cookies. I called and got the recipe.

I imagine the two women would have shared stories during this off-screen conversation. If so, shouldn't Meemaw know Amy's love for her grandson? Amy's character?  Even if their relationship was strained because of the breakup and Meemaw needed reassurance that Amy wouldn't leave Moonpie again. I don't get why Meemaw acted so distant.  It was as if they never had any interaction/conversation prior to that moment. From both Amy's comments (you'll like me once you get to know me) and Meemaw referring to Mary liking her.  It just sounded like Meemaw had never talked to Amy to make her own opinion of her. Which I find weird considering 8x11.  Then again this is an assumption on my part, perhaps Amy got the cookie recipe from Mary in 8x11 and not Meemaw herself.

Would love to hear others thoughts on the Meemaw/Amy interaction in light of 8x11.

Some people guess maybe Mary gave Amy the recipe. IMO this is just another example of inconsistency in the plots. But here we like to defend the writers for whatever reason, so let's just say Mary gave Amy the recipe and Meemaw had never talked with Amy before.

Oh...I thought someone has already posted a TR? No? Ok. First of all, English is not my first language, so I may have misunderstood a lot of the lines. Please forgive me if the episode turns out

I saw someone mention about the 'meemaw cookie recipe' elsewhere & it got me thinkin too.

I too think it was Mary that was the 'messenger' between the two. Mary probably told Meemaw about Amy after she met Amy. I'm see both Sheldon & Mary know how important it is for Meemaw to like Amy, even, up until the last episode, if it was just through word of mouth. I'm sure Meemaw adorabed the sound of Amy which is probably why she allowed Amy access to her recipe (whether it was Mary who gave it to her or Meemaw essentially Meemaw would have had to give the go ahead initially) probably because she was so dead set on Amy being 'the one' for her moonpie she wanted to past on the recipe to the next Cooper women. That being her expectation that they'd eventually marry & be together forever built Meemaws picture of Amy up so high that when Meemaw heard about the break up, she marched straight to LA & shuned Amy the way she did.

It's all about the stakes in acting :) I know there are lots of people out there who hated Meemaws reaction to Amy but looking at it from Meemaws POV you can understand why she was so pissed.

Plus. It made way for sassy Sheldon *swoon*

I tried and I can't like her! I think sure Granny can be there for advice, and guidance.. but this is creepy! He is an adult now. Plus Mary couldn't even keep her in check cause Mary told her everything was OK and she flew out anyway. As a parent I would have been pissed if my mother undermined my parenting, and seeing she still treats Sheldon like he is a kid, that is what she is doing.  I have yet to see Mary coddle him when she is on, and the gang don't either. Plus to me, Sheldon enjoyed it, that is the biggest thing. .. that proves this is the LAST thing he needs!!

Meemaw is an adult of advanced years and experience and can make her own mind up about who she does and doesn't like without having to seek her own daughter's permission. Mary should 'keep her in check' huh? No, I don't think so. How hypocritical that you condemn Meemaw for not acknowledging that Sheldon is an adult, but in the same breath declare that she should be kept in check by her daughter as if she is somehow rendered incompetent by her age.

Sheldon certainly is an adult. An adult with extremely poor social skills. An adult who, when left to his own devices, envariably finds himself the victim of those who would seek to exploit this weakness. Good job he does have 'enablers' to take care of him because how else would he cope? A low IQ adult with similar social skills would be classed as a 'vulnerable adult'. Does the 100 or so extra IQ points that Sheldon possess change that?

Is Meemaw blind to the fact her grandson is vulnerable? No, I don't think she is. Is she wrong to have his back? Again, no. Is she the only one to treat him like a child? I don't think so, let's see, we have Leonard, Penny, even Mary....

Sheldon: I am a grown man. I am a professional scientist. And I currently occupy the moral high ground.
Mary: Go to your room.
Sheldon: But I occupy the moral high ground.
Mary: Go to your room.
Sheldon: But I'm a professional scientist.
Mary: Go to your room!
Sheldon: *Backs away to his room* I'm a grown man.

Me: Show, how do you continue to create these opportunities and continually refuse to take them?

Show: Opportunity? What opportunity?

Me: For Amy and Meemaw to talk about what they value in their relationships! Forget Meemaw, she comes from a different generation. What does Amy value about her relationship with Sheldon that she is willing to endure so much, and why isn't she allowed to talk about those things?

Opportunity to explain Amy's feelings intended?  No...happy accident.

Wow, I'm feeling the urge to let Amy explain her feelings.  And one, and two, all right, Wowbagger, we're good.

In a picture, there are blue and yellow streams in the apartment along with wrapped papers in the background, and the speculation stems from that when combined with how close the date is to Sheldon's birthday. It's an attempt to explain the seemingly party atmosphere in the picture.

I still think this is for Batman's anniversary, March 30th... Or maybe a launch party for the comic store, or a baby announcement for Howardette's baby. I just dont think they will do Sheldon's birthday. If they do, it will be a disaster since he hates celebrating it.  (Other than that Cake Amy made for him which he hated and we are supposed to ignore since he ONLY told Penny his birthday (Cough cough BS))

Yeah. . .on the one hand, I do think they'd write something like the party without taking into account anything like that, but I am hoping it's just a Batman party. I honestly don't know anything about baby announcements or anything, so I couldn't even begin to speculate on that front. I would hope it's that.

The more I read old posts and what not, the more I just don't know what could happen because of how the internal consistency/world building functions.

I hope someone buys that kid those little towels with hoods that are designed like the Avengers. That's got to be a thing, right? IDK the timeline of the pregnancy, but if it's 16 or so weeks, perhaps it's a Batman themed baby party?

But if it were a luanch party for the comic bookstore or for Batman's anniversary, then the comic bookstore would have been the place decorated, not the apartment.  I can't see them going to the apartment for that when they have had plenty of other parties at the bookstore.   I definitely don't see them going to the Howardette baby story again in this episode because they will have hit it in two episodes in a row and their story, while shocking is not going to be big like the breakup story was.  I doubt it is for the baby.   I could see the girls throwing Bernadette a baby party, but that will come later in the season when she is further along.   Too early for a baby party.

Sheldon won't hate it, because it will have a lot of things about it he will love.  He always says he is going to dislike something but ends up loving it.   I think it will be his birthday and he will like it...and end up with another restraining order to be proud of as well.   They have it airing exactly a year after his last birthday was mentioned and aired.   It just seems very likely his birthday.

Out of left field...could the cast and crew been just have been celebrating someone's birthday on set?

I've seen pictures of a cake for Mayim during a tape night, Jim getting a cake and balloons on a swing set.  Are we sure that this is set decoration for a scene?

I think so because Kaley also had a photo where she pointed to a party decor item Batman themed....so yeah..I think it is something to do with the episode and not a real life party thing.  Usually for cast and crew they decorate a table off to the side (with cake, balloons, etc.)  and not on the set.  This had the set with streamers, etc.   I don't think they would do that for anything but for a show.  I could be wrong, but it just seems unlikely they would do anything to the set given they are so careful about those sets.

Agreed.  Also, when other fans mentioned Bill Prady tweeted asking how to say "Batcave" and "Fortress of Solitude" in French, I had a feeling a comic theme (Batman or Superman) episode was coming up.  Sheldon even called himself Batman during an early episode when he was trying not to divulge a secret to Leonard.

I used to watch the Batman series with Adam West growing up (POW, WHAM), but I have never read comic books.  I started trying to lookup information and was reminded of the episode where Penny and Stuart return from a date and Sheldon's discusses with Stuart about who would replace Batman in the event of his death, Jason Todd or Dick Grayson (sp?).  However, the more I tried to understand comic book plot lines, the more confused I became.  Let's just say the number of variants for comic book plot lines make me regret complaining about the writing inconsistencies with TBBT.

It would make sense, Sheldon gave Amy a pretty good birthday present so she may want to do something really special for him!

I think  that's the reason why the idea of a  birthday party for Sheldon (organized by Amy) in the 200th episode sounds  likely; after Sheldon made Amy's birthday so special, I can see her doing everything possible to make his birthday special; and meeting one of his childhood heroes (Adam West) and possibly getting a Restraining Order from him to add to his collection of RO would make his birthday really special. Sheldon doesn't like parties or presents, but meeting Adam West is not a "common" present, so I can see him bitching at the beginning for the party but ending up loving it.

I remember ages before the full TR came out, Lio (I think?) speculated that Meemaw might be particularly harsh with Amy because she had liked Amy and felt personally betrayed by her. 'I gave you my cookie recipe! No one has that cookie recipe! No one! And you walked away without a second backward glance, you cookie-stealing hussy! And now you felt like walking in and you expect me to be free! Well, I'm savin' all my cookies for someone who's lovin' me- I mean my MoonPie!'*. And that might have been interesting, I think. But nope- this one we chalk up to the writers' historically sieve-like memories....

* That...sounded dirtier than I meant it to.

I think I might have actually enjoyed the Mee-Maw episode, even if it involved increased yelling and arguing and slamming doors or flaring tempers, had the writers used this betrayal angle.  It would have made "testing" the strength of the relationship more believable as well and demonstrate to Mee-Maw that Sheldon and Amy were not just giving it another casual go, but were actually committed to making their relationship work.  Sheldon could defend Amy that she did such a great job trying to make him happy with the cookies that they tasted like Mee-Maw's hugs could have softened Mee-Maw enough to still give a reluctant blessing, but Mee-Maw could still issue a stern, "I'm still watching you and don't entirely trust you yet."

Well, in fairness, Meemaw's babying of Sheldon was already enough motivation for her to dislike anyone who hurt her Moon Pie. I don't think her animosity came from nowhere, even if we need to do some fanwanking to square how Amy came by her cookie recipe without having interacted with her. But yes, I absolutely agree that there was a missed opportunity for Sheldon to explain what Amy adds to his life apart from enduring him (and- hee!- giving him a 'little work in progress' to endure himself!).

Anyway. Here's hoping Round Two of Fowler vs Meemaw (assuming there is such a Round Two) holds together better.

Not to beat a dead horse, but that is my peeve with the "babying" of Sheldon.  If Mee-Maw even has to say "let the adults talk" and still views him as a child, then why would she want Sheldon in any relationship?  Why not have Mee-Maw try to convince Sheldon to go back to swearing off women all together, like Sheldon told Mary in the season premiere, and not just this "mean" woman who broke his heart, but anyone who has the potential to hurt him?  Ok, maybe Mee-Maw wants someone to coddle Sheldon, but that is why the potential "bonding" between Amy and Mee-Maw about their difficult partners needed elaboration, not an interruption where Sheldon appears to save the day, by standing up to Mee-Maw.  The rescue gesture fell flat for me because it still was prompted by Lenny and appeared to be out of obligation rather than willingness (and I know Sheldon has to take baby steps, and Amy is definitely a 'work in progress' post reconciliation, and all of this should be considered huge, believe me I am trying).  Your humor definitely helps lighten the mood btw!:)

I know I shouldn't nitpick, and I promise I will try to not respond anymore until the next couple of episodes.  I guess I just miss when the plots were well developed and you were so caught up in the story that the jokes or insults caught you offguard.  Now the jokes and insults seem to be the driving factors and the plotlines limp around awkwardly in between creating more confusion and making it even more disjointed and choppy, at least in the Mee-Maw episode anyway (end rant).  Here's hoping for a better Round Two or any type of progress from any source at this point.

So yeah, maybe we will get something more concrete on that, as in actual words coming out of Amy's mouth, in one of the next episodes. During the last episodes the writers have constantly added situations or lines that put an end to a lot of discussions we've had in the past (often things that annoyed the heck out of me, so thanks for that writers!) so who knows what they'll have for us next?! With the speculations about the next episode being about Sheldon's birthday maybe we'll get something from that.

I'm so into that speculation that now I'm scared I'll be disappointed if it turns out to be wrong!! Anyway, my favourite possible scenario for the party is that Amy persuades AW to attend it (I'm sure it's not that easy  to make him go to the birthday parties of his fans...) saying something meaningful about the things she likes in Sheldon and\or about how the break up has affected both of them.  Not even necessary that Sheldon listen to those words...Wouldn't that be nice? A girl can dream, right?
