[Spoilers] Shamy: Season 9

I never said that he hadn´t lived on his own before he met Leonard, I just wanted to say, that I would like to live him on his own after Leonard has moved out and before he Amy moves in, because I think it would be interesting, how Sheldon would handle the simple things of life on his own. Because I don´t want Amy to be a replacement for Leonard, who takes him to the doctor´s and to the Lego store and who cleans up behind him. I want him to become an independent man who is able to buy his daily needs, to drive to the Lego store alone in his own car (I still didn´t give up my dream, that he will drive one day, Amy taught him how to do it).

This so much!!! As much as I want Shamy to live together as soon as possible, I actually think he needs to live alone, at least for a little while!

I sooo don't wanna see Amy be his personal caretaker to the extent that Leonard is...

Morning peeps! Let me clear up and give a more in depth shamy reportings!   There were 2 takes of the second kiss... As they finish kissing the first time round. They break apart. Sheld

Ok fellow Shamies, I typed up this report on the plane home just now. I've just landed and have another hour or so until I'll be home, but I thought I'd post this at least for you all real quick.  Sor

Oh...I thought someone has already posted a TR? No? Ok. First of all, English is not my first language, so I may have misunderstood a lot of the lines. Please forgive me if the episode turns out

Like I said everyone was fine. I didn't ask why everyone was fine. I used "but" because I use that word randomly.

Yes. I was.

You said "but everybody was fine" - in English that would imply that the people around Sheldon and Penny should not be fine with them hugging, which is why I asked.

Can I ask what exactly you expected from this episode? You seem really disappointed in the taping and I'm sorry for you :(

hat did I say? I said party on, didn't I? Which part of party on sounds like I want you all to hate this episode? I don't care how you feel about the episode at all. I was just stating my opinion.

I just got a vibe that you're mad at those of us who enjoy Sheldon & Penny moments and that made me feel sad haha : /

I am sorry you didn't enjoy the episode as much , hope the next taping you go to has lots of cute Shamy moments and no Shenny  : )

agreed, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it and to each is own.  From what I'm reading and heard from many its a great ensemble episode and the Shenny part was all of about 3 minutes.  But again, different strokes for different folks.

I wanted to quote your previous post but it's not there...I think you're overanalyzing this. You don't like their friendship...that's fine...but come on, a Shenny-centric episode? We haven't even seen it yet...

...just trying to tell you that Sheldon and Penny are friends so they are bound to have their moments now and then...it's Sheldon's birthday, after all. Sheldon and Amy also had their moments in the episode and I can-not-wait to see the tie scene.

I don't know. I expected it to be a nice, warm group episode. Although a lot of people showed up in this episodes, it was still Sheldon centric. But really it was the Amy and Leonard arguing who should comfort Sheldon part and Penny comforting Sheldon part ruined the episode for me. It was weird IMO. It felt like Amy's still not close enough to Sheldon and even Sheldon's friend thought so.

Judith, I think Camelliayao actually was at the taping, she has seen it.

Why would I be mad about how other people feel? I just don't feel the same things you feel. That's all. If you enjoy the episode, good for you.

So after Amy talking him into a Party, her helping him with his tie and asking to see him naked the Sheldon and Penny talk in the bathroom ruined all that for you? :(

I thought Leonard and Amy arguing over who's place it was to comfort Sheldon was funny and kinda sweet not long after an episode when literally everyone was trying to get away from him cus he was sick and now he has people fighting over who is closer!

Let me put it this way. And to be clear I'm not trying to tell people how to feel at all, just my own opinion.

The Sheldon and Penny bathroom scene was one of the highlights of the episode, along with Stephen Hawking singing happy birthday and maybe the Shenny hug. It was one of those kinds of scenes that intended for people to remember. That's why I said it was an Shenny episode.

It was not Sheldon and Penny's moments "now and then". They were the main focus. Most of Sheldon and Amy's moments are really just small moments that maybe only shippers could capture.

Again, just my opinion and I'm biased. I'm not trying to tell anybody how to feel.

It would be hilarious, if Sheldon drove slowly down the street in his car and an officer would stop him, because he´s too slow.

The officer asks him, why he´s driving so slow and he would simply answer: "My engine light is blinking, so I´m driving it slowly to the next car workshop to check it before the engine breaks down."

Right in this moment Penny´s head appears from the back seat, saying: "Officer, I told him that´s it not necessary to drive that slow...."

"You better be quiet, it´s all your fault, I´m never going to lend you my car again! If you were a superhero, your name would be Blinky Girl, the heroine who makes engine lights blink!

But back to topic, I want him to become a man, so maybe his family finally accepts that he´s a grown man and treats him like one.

I like that idea ! it's better than the one I had, which would involve him getting stopped driving the baby's car too slowly one day when Howard's sick and Sheldon has to babysit. He doesn't want to take her on the bus. The car, with all sorts of equipment in it, is the lesser of two evils.

Leonard still showed he was sick of Sheldon at the beginning of this episode, if I remember correctly, something like "And we live here so we have to go to your party." and some other lines.

Yes. It ruined for me, maybe not all of them. Because like I said in previous posts, Shamy cute moments are really small moments that maybe only shippers can capture. But the talk and hug scene are highlights of the episode. And it was weird because usually Leonard would happily step away if Amy's there to take care of Sheldon. But he didn't this time. It felt like the whole argument was for the purpose of letting Sheldon and Penny having the talk.

It would have to be Penny who stepped in so she could say that if she'd been there she'd have made birthdays miserable for Sheldon like his twin sister did. Neither Amy nor Leonard could have said that.

Someone (sorry can't remember who!) on the DT made me feel much better with the thought that maybe this whole dynamic of Leonard/Amy "arguing" over who is closer to Sheldon and Penny taking on the role of no-nonsense sibling cheerer-upper actually does speak to larger character growth and things to come. And that perhaps, this might be the beginning of Leonard saying goodbye to Sheldon as a roommate and "handing the reins" or whatever over to Amy as his closest "person". And then, as a continuation of the rest of the ep's plotline, that Penny- in saying she identifies with Missy's part in his childhood heartache and then saying sweet things to make him feel better - sort of takes on the role of his surrogate sister in healing that past trauma. Thematically this works for me and emotionally it also made me feel A LOT better about it. So...I'm going with it! Check out the original argument/spin on this in the DT. I thought it was very well argued!

It was fair to say Penny identified with Missy's part in Sheldon's childhood. I agree with that. Still, they way they shoot the bathroom scene and the hug scene, I have to say it was not easy for me to watch, especially after Amy and Leonard having that argument. And maybe it was only for laughs, but Amy's arguments were weak, compared with Leonard's "I've known him for many years." It felt like the only thing that made Amy special to Sheldon now was she had sex with him, once.

Like I said, it felt Lenny and Sheldon are a family and Amy's an outsider. They showed how thoughtful Leonard was to get Adam West to Sheldon's birthday party. They showed how Penny and others prepared for Sheldon's birthday. They showed the argument, the talk, the hug. And Amy? How she got Stephen Hawking to wish Sheldon a happy birthday? What gift did she get for Sheldon? None. It felt like Amy's main purpose in this episode is just to suggest the idea of a birthday party and that's it.

I know how you feel sweety because i have the same impression.. i wasn't even there nor seen the episode yet i just only read the TR and i feel so bad for amy, she's my favorite and this kind of "moments"  make me think that maybe the writers are trying to say something about how stronger the shenny "relationship" is... Even more that the relationship they actually have with their own partners... And that's sad and unfair, for both Leonard and AMy...

It really depends on how you look at it. The reason why Sheldon hates celebrating his birthdays can be anything. It could easily be they chose to use the Missy one so that they can have that bathroom talk scene.

Ok, but, I don't think that logic will get you anywhere but a circle.

I think, with only having read the TR, they picked to have Penny step into Missy's shoes and just didn't consider how the characterization they'd previously sacrificed for one-liners and jokes would make that look to some. The writers absolutely picked Missy as why Sheldon hates his birthday. That's what writers do, and I'm betting they see it as a way to make Penny into Missy while being to unconcerned with how it my look in the big picture to some people regarding how they treat Sheldon's interactions with Penny vs. Amy.

Yeah, they could've picked anything, but this could theoretically set the stage for Penny and Leonard moving out (finally, my god, they've been there for ages) because it's an emotional shift. Physical shifts usually come after.

ETA: I am not a fan of how this places Leonard and Amy as potential parallels and how they've not moved out yet. There's a lot of that dynamic that doesn't make a lot of sense for the characters (and it's coming across like how we're missing Amy's POV on the split) even if it's their tried-and-true formula for comedy.

IMO, it's natural for the writers to put emphasis on different relationships at different times. Would I have preferred Amy to go talk to Sheldon in the bathroom? Sure I would, but like people here already said, I see it as a way for Sheldon to get closure on the issues he had with birthdays.

The two people he's closest to were fighting about which one will comfort him and Penny who has become his unlike friend was like "Ok, let's get this over with". For me that's not a bad thing at all.

At least from what I understood from reading the TR, I didn't get that they were trying to make any comparisons between relationships.

Correct if I wrong but those that went did say that Sheldon did give that as the reason he doesn't like birthdays.  It was the reason they got Adam West to go.
