Yes, she misunderstood Sheldon's looks, but according to the taping report, half of the audience did it too (of course, those writers...) The reason I'm fine with this episode much more than with the part in Penny's apartment in the 200th episode is just that, TBH. Amy was there expecting nothing and drinking her tea when Sheldon said that he has few hours before his bedtime with killer looks. Not very funny either, I agree, but at least she was not demanding anything. Of course, that's what I say now, before watching the actual episode... oh yes, I know. That comment wasn't meant for this most recent TR. This TR showcases the related thing of 'Sheldon makes a possibly-sexy remark. Could it be-maybe-possibly....? NAH!' Which I also find frankly tiresome. Edited March 2, 2016 by wowbagger

kerrycec03 Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Thank you again to those that provided info. Sounds like a cute episode, and as somebody already pointed out, this episode allows us to have Amy express her love of Sheldon for all his "quirks & all". And they are really drilling home the how close they are post-breakup....All good things (and always stunned how anybody can find a glimmer of complaints but oh well). And the hoarder is so IC. Of course somebody who hates change would have a hard time parting with things. And with disclosure agreement this is a part of him probably NOBODY knows. We know he is afraid of people thinking he is weird (man, how he has changed) and he finally opened to Amy about this secret life. If anybody knows anything about hoarders, this is classic behavior. They are embarrassed, know its not normal and don't let people in. So kudos to the writers for keeping this on point.

Yeah, this really seems to me like one of those things that is a typical Shamy situation but with the twist of Let's see how the two deal with it now! The nature of such a plot may not lead to radically different storytelling, sure, but overall I do get a more positive vibe from it. Especially since the hoarding issue seems to be such an exclusive secret (as opposed to other times when everybody knows about that weird quirk whatever a previous episode might have dealt with) and him sharing that with her seems to be the basis for a moment of emotional bonding between them, which is something that is always on top of our Shamy shipper wish lists. So I'm happy to get that with this episode!
MsRajeshFowlerCooper Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 I like this hoarder plot, but it reminds me of the episode of Friends with Monica's secret closet. Does anyone know how many episodes are left after last night's taping? I'm having trouble keeping track, but I'm starting to doubt my previous prediction of a finale proposal. They are embarrassed, know its not normal and don't let people in. So kudos to the writers for keeping this on point. I did not know this ! I am the opposite - known far and wide for being a hoarder. ( My annual Lenten task consists of going through what I've saved and making decisions to throw papers or other things away. I've been known to be in tears by Good Friday. ) If anybody wants an obscure item such as an obsolete part for something, they ask me if I've got one. I always know exactly where I keep it too. I rather enjoy poking fun at OCD types who throw things out. When I was a school teacher the headmistress put a picture on every classroom door to reflect the personality of the teacher within. My picture was a squirrel. With me it's partly genetic and partly the result of a postwar rationing childhood when make-do-and-mend was a necessary fashion. I even save old toothbrushes to put to good use. My study/sitting room looks like 4a. Stuff everywhere. Not a bare shelf in sight. Hoarding becomes a disorder when things pile up in the home and restrict one's life. If Sheldon takes his worn-out things to a storeplace then this quirk of not throwing things away hasn't quite tipped over into abnormality yet. It seems like a good idea to me and if I still had a car I'd hire a store myself. A friend of mine used to keep saved items in her car and she once saved my bacon with a golfball she took from the glove compartment . Why Sheldon would choose a golfball of all things to throw away I can't imagine. No wonder he put it back.

Many "closet" hoarders keep storage units or other residences for their hoards. Its not just sloppy nor is it just exclusive to ones house or car. I would quite have liked it if Amy and Sheldon were both 'oh, yes, I have a storage facility for my class notebooks. I will.give it to my biographer after I win the Nobel. Why are you looking at us like that?' I also.don't really have a problem with Sheldon not getting innuendo. My issue is that others (like Amy) are STILL put in the demeaning position of making innuendo and batting their lashes expectantly at him, only to be disappointed. It would be one thing if Amy had no expectation that Sheldon would understand, but enjoys making the innuendo and cackling to herself while Sheldon gapes. This? makes Amy look like an addled amnesiac, honestly. But I agree with you that the writers are unlikely to rock this particular (leaking, unfunny) boat. It sounds like, though, in this case Amy didn't actually make any innuendo. From what shamydawson said they had Sheldon clearly make the innuendos and then Amy say "What did you have in mind?" I'm hoping this reflects her trying to figure out what he's really saying, not making assumptions. We will of course have to see how it plays out, but I like that much better than if she had said "I have an idea what we can do…" then nothing came of it. So I'm happy to get that with this episode! Yes, I like that he had hidden this but opened up to her, and that he knew and was honest about the fact that this is not normal, healthy behavior. When we first heard about the storage unit in the taping, I joked that he would probably say something like he wanted to give The Smithsonian a head start for its eventual Sheldon Cooper wing. It seems like just the arrogant way the old Sheldon would respond to something like this coming to light, but he's grown and matured and because he loves her so much and trusts her (well, with a non-disclosure agreement - yes, he's "still Sheldon," thank you very much, writers), she gets to see who he really is, AND he really cares what she thinks of him as a result. Love, love, love. And yes, I agree with much of what wowbagger said, but I think so much of the theme of Sheldon in the show has been about him learning to trust. Yes, of course he had a million and one quirks/phobias/aversions/what-have-you, but the more I rewatch, the more I'm realizing I don't think the main conflict was ever about Sheldon learning he needs people, or learning to like having people in his life, I think he probably always would have wanted and liked having close relationships (it is a pretty basic human desire after all), but I think he had kept people at arm's length because he had been hurt so much as a young child he no longer trusted people. He was hurt at home (where everyone should feel safest) by his father and his siblings, hurt by neighbors, picked on by kids at school, discouraged by teachers, 'targeted' by the federal government just for trying to give his neighborhood free power, etc. The only good memories he seems to have from his formative years are of Meemaw and Pop-Pop (and trusting them got him hurt when Pop-Pop died, which also led to him getting let down by Santa) and Mary (god bless that woman!) If that's the case, that makes any instance of him opening up and trusting people with his feelings, fears, innermost thoughts, challenges, etc. really meaningful. Seeing him let Amy into something he's always kept hidden makes me happy.

But then I didn't get why it was funny to think someone must be drunk if he didn't put a question mark in the right place. Everybody I'm likely to text would strongly suspect I wasn't sober if I messed up my punctuation and none of them would text me without checking theirs, plus their spelling and grammar. I don't think the question mark line was a way to show Sheldon's quirk. Yes many other people don't mess up with their puctuation and grammer in their texts either. And their friends can tell if they are sober or not by a question mark. Just like Amy can tell but Penny can't. They are not saying Shelon's weird. They are showing us how well Amy knows Sheldon.
