I don't think he'll need it in the future and clearly he has no emotional attachment to it. So why does he keep it? Because he has too. He feels uncomfortable throwing it away even though he knows there's no use keeping it. And he does this to every object he has ever owned. For a rational person like Sheldon, this can be something to be ashamed of. Because what he does is not logical or rational.

We're talking about stuff like old toothbrushes and broken laptops and useless golf balls and god knows what's in that storage room. It's explicitly mentioned that the simple act of throwing away things like that is causing him discomfort of some sort. Most people are able and happy to throw away an old used toothbrush - they don't keep them to gather dust in a storage room somewhere. Like, we're not talking about him keeping stuff that he wants to keep or deems useful, like keeping an old toothbrush to use as a cleaning utensil or something. It's a storeroom full of useless broken stuff that seemingly has not value to him beyond the fact that throwing it away would cause him discomfort. That is a problem. Not only do I not get all the jokes, there are occasions when I don't know whether a line is a joke or not. I'm glad to know that line was not one. I've been puzzling over it since the TR. Now can somebody explain Howard's one about the hot tub please ? It got laughs. 8 minutes ago, camelliayao said: I think most people keep things because A, they may need them in the future, B, those things have special meanings to them. Let me tell you this, when you are there with over 200 people and a very, very enthusiastic MC in the front trying everything to make you laugh, you just laugh more than you normally do. Sometimes the lines are not funny but people still laugh. And when others laugh, somehow you laugh too. It's contagious.
ashleyo85 Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 I'm posting this in a few different threads in hopes of catching most of our members. Zimbio is running it's annual March Madness TV Couples. Shamy is nominated and is running against Barry/Patty from the Flash. Shamy holds a small lead over them right now. If you want to vote, they are the 3rd set up from the bottom on the left hand side. You can click on the set itself to bring up the voting, you don't have to go through all of them! http://www.zimbio.com/brackets/TV+Couples+March+Madness+2016 For anyone interested, Lenny is also nominated, and desperately needs votes. They are the 7th set down from top on the right hand side.

Sheldon is weird: Check. Amy is patient and understanding and maybe slightly worryingly maternal: Check. Sheldon opens up and the show pretends that this is a big deal, although it has been going to the well of Sheldon's Past Trauma so well it has frequent flyer miles: Check. Sheldon says something suggestive: Check. Amy responds sort of hopefully, maybe: Check. Show says PSYCH!: Check. I mean, don't get me wrong. I am sure the actors will be very charming and this all sounds very cute and fluffy, but wow, show. That comfort zone has been dropping pointed hints about how maybe you should move out (not unlike another two characters....). Live a little, show! Let Amy be the one with the weird behaviour! Let Sheldon be the one to help her! And for the love of God, cut it out with the 'Sheldon Cooper Does Not Do Innuendo' humour. We get that he doesn't do innuendo. Stop having other people (especially Amy) make innuendo around him and look at him hopefully. Stop behaving as though you are Aristophanes because you have the bait and switch of Sheldon saying a possibly risqué thing which turns out to be-oooooooo-not so risqué after all. We have all of us watched this show before. Even if we haven't, we have all of us consumed fiction in some form. Having Sheldon telegraph something 'naughty' in such a manner can only be followed by a smash cut to something that is not naughty at all. If humour derives from the unexpected, this is the equivalent of getting us to cackle at 12:01 following 12:00. Retire the joke. It was already stale by the time you got your hands on it. I'm waiting for an episode where Sheldon says something dirty but Amy has gotten so used to him not making/understanding innuendos so she takes it literally, and then Sheldon says, "Amy, I'm talking about coitus, silly!" something like: S: Thank you for driving me home... maybe you'd like to come upstairs so I can return the favor and give you a ride... A: No thanks. I wiped out the last time I tried your Batman scooter. S: .....Amy, I'm talking about coitus. I don't know if the show will revisit this plot but it would be nice to see if he's made progress with Amy's help a few episodes down the line. It would be good if there was something in there he could use to mend something else.. As Raj says, old, broken things are so much more interesting than new things that work. I daresay it's getting the old tings to work again that's the fun. Or even better - there might be a part for whatever they're building. I'd no idea before that this was supposed to be a problem : perhaps turning items to good use would help. Sheldon's obviously finding his hoarding bothers him but Amy might be able to cure it. Last season we had Penny say she sees him like a brother. In 200 Leonard told Sheldon he IS his brother. How can anyone think TPTB would consider destroying this with a Shenny twist in the end of the series? This is a beautiful, imperfect but loving family, all these guys and gals. Think about it - none of them have great, functional happy families of their own, so they all made one together. Happy sigh... April Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Not to put a damper on our fun with Schrödinger's Sex Live™ but a bit from Molaro, thanks to vonmar in the general thread: Quote Sheldon and Amy’s sex life has cooled off considerably since [their] inaugural love-making session in December. “Sheldon made it pretty clear that this would be an annual event on her birthday,” explains showrunner Steve Molaro. “I don’t know what the future holds, but so far, he’s been sticking to that.” So then, is the cat dead? Is this just empty showrunner talk? I mean, would he say something like "Well, of course they're getting busy off-screen!" here?? Hmmm.... Judith Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 (edited) So...according to Molaro, Sheldon and Amy only had sex that one time. And he's not sure (yeah right...) what the future holds...Interesting...With a little faith, something good could come out of this Maybe we should start a countdown for the episodes left in this season? Because I'm pretty sure that if this sex thing is ever to be properly addressed, it will have to be in this season because otherwise it won't make sense. *Also, for anyone who's interested, there are documentaries about hoarders online that you can watch. I found a few on youtube, I don't know if they're still there but try and look them up, they're very interesting. People have actually died from this condition... I don't actually think them having sex was a one time thing. It would be weird if they treated it that way. And very anticlimatic - especially after all the anticipation. I just hope that when they do address this, it will all come together nicely. Edited March 2, 2016 by Judith

Is this just empty showrunner talk? I mean, would he say something like "Well, of course they're getting busy off-screen!" here?? Hmmm.... Well...I guess it's safe to say he knows better! Anyway the writers are doing anything they can to remind us that the cat (which now we know is dead) is indeed in the box. In the past seasons there were the usual (and never hated enough) jokes about frustrated Amy and oblivious Sheldon or reminders that the two of them didn't do it, but the were not as frequent as they are now (almost in every episode past 9x11...) So I'll stick with my idea that TPTB are trying to capitalize as much as they can this plot line. Nobody will care anymore how often they have or don't have sex after their second on-screen time, so they are just teasing the audience on the subject to keep them interested. And it's working, at least for me...I won't be once a year, because otherwise it would be really predictable, but they will play with this plot line for some\a long time, JMO.
