I wonder if the surprise could also be something for Grok?

camelliayao Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 So basically nothing new in totay's PaleyFest, but they did show us 919 before the panel began. It was super sweet and cute, one of my favorite this season so far.
Popular Post chipmunk1 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I just saw this photo, and it melted and broke my heart at the same time. I think that you can see so much in Sheldon's face... we knew by the taping report that he was insecure about telling Amy about his secret hoarding tendencies because he was afraid she'd be disappointed in him, and in this image he's like 'I know this is not normal, but I can't help myself. This is who I am'. It's sweet and heart-breaking and beautiful and... and I can't wait to watch these next episodes!
Popular Post camelliayao Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) Actually Amy was a little shocked at first, but she calmed down quickly and was super sweet to comfort Sheldon and to help him. Sheldon said "I'm sorry if you think less of me", Amy replied "I don't". Sheldon was surprised because even he thinks less of himself every time he walks in the storage room. Also Amy bought Sheldon the perfect laptop. She even went to the guy that Sheldon would go to. I think Sheldon's very very lucky to have Amy in his life (of course this goes both ways) but from this episode, I really envy Sheldon lol. He has a girl who accepts every bit of him and always admires him; who understands him, takes care of him and buys expensive laptops for him.:) Here's a pic I took. Yeah I felt that several people was taking pics during this scene. It's just too cute. The scene at the beginning with the skype session going bad because Sheldon's laptop was on its last leg was hilarious. Amy's phone call to him "Get a new computer!!" was a good ending lol 6 hours ago, camelliayao said: Actually Amy was a little shocked at first, but she calmed down quickly and was super sweet to comfort Sheldon and to help him. Yeah I felt that several people was taking pics during this scene. It's just too cute. I'm just glad Sheldon acknowledges that her laptop was perfect and that the computer store guy who he knows by name knows his stuff. He wasn't so keen on her buying the laptop and gave her the third degree about taking the experience of buying a new laptop away from him. Yeah I like how Sheldon explains to Amy how his storage room embarrasses him because it makes him a "fraud", that the fact he professes to aspire to be a perfect robot hybrid someday is lofty considering he can't even let go of things in his life. Amy is awesome in this episode and so sweet even though you can tell she needed a minute to digest it all when they walk in. I liked how she tries to give Sheldon an example of how SHE also saved some items, mentioning the slide of her first brain dissection, in order to put Sheldon at ease. And right after saying that she looks around and still has that "but wow, this!" look on her face lol. But she handles herself well and it's a touching scene, and she doesn't push Sheldon to make changes and offers to help him if he ever wanted to try. Love me some Amy!
April Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) @2L344 & @camelliayao Both your accounts of the finished 9x19 ep make me really really looking forward to it - well, to be precise, more than I was because from the TR I was already digging the the whole thing. But it's great to hear that the finished ep holds up to the expectations. I've been very happy with how respectful many of the stories this season deal with quite real and difficult issues and how sympathetic they approach the characters having to confront those situations and grow from that experience. And it seems like this one is no exception. As someone who's totally into character development and all that jazz this makes me so happy you have no idea! <3 Edited March 17, 2016 by April

And it seems like this one is no exception. As someone who's totally into character development and all that jazz this makes me so happy you have no idea! <3 It's a great episode to be sure. It starts off in a very silly way with the skype session and the back and forth between Sheldon and Amy, it's hilarious if you can imagine two people trying to be seen and heard while dealing with a laptop who's audio and video feed is breaking up. Later when he finally skypes Amy with the new laptop in all its 4K video resolution glory he is simply giddy, even though Amy is put off by driving all the way home just so Sheldon can feel like she's in the same room with him (" And yet I'm not"), and so he could see that she looks so clear that he feels he can touch her ("And yet you can't")...the old laptop's funeral scene was funny, and when Amy points out that it's "just a laptop" Sheldon counters with Amy mourning the death of a lab monkey as being no different. Amy gets defensive and says "that monkey told me he loved me in sign language!"...just funny stuff! But it gets serious pretty quickly when you realize Sheldon has a secret, and it's not played for laughs...when Amy presses him in 4A about why he won't return the old laptop for store credit Sheldon cuts her off loudly in the exact same manner he shouts down Penny when she pressed him about the ring in the Spock video episode. Amy jumps a little and so did I lol...Sheldon instantly regrets it and the discussion takes place about taking the secret ride to the storage room (after the non disclosure agreement is discussed lol). I can't emphasize enough how throughly embarrassed Sheldon is about the situation and you can see it in his face and the things he says. His body language and tone to me suggested a guy who was falling on his sword and acting like his revelation was likely gonna have Amy running for the hills. I think he really thought that Amy was gonna judge him harshly and that he was just going to get the big reveal over with so he could make a quick death of it. It was a little sad to watch, but Amy was awesome and saves the day. He owes her, big time. That's why in my mind, in the following Big Bear episode, that the wine game relaxes him enough that they share a moment in their bedroom off camera later. He needs to be that guy for her more often... Lol sorry for the mini report on the episode lol, Cam's post just reminded me of that episode we previewed! The one thing I don't get, and I discussed it with brilliantfool and rf1013 afterwards, is why the writers decided to introduce the hoarding plot to begin with. I mean, Sheldon has enough issues to deal with and work through and is already considered challenged in a lot of ways, so why add yet another challenge for him to deal with? Any thoughts? Funny you mention the Spock reaction because I wanted to write down in my earlier comment how this feels like a similarly heavy episode but then thought to point out that parallel later after I actually saw. But I didn't even know there would be that kind of intense moment in it - HOLY SHIT! Quote The one thing I don't get, and I discussed it with brilliantfool and rf1013 afterwards, is why the writers decided to introduce the hoarding plot to begin with. I mean, Sheldon has enough issues to deal with and work through and is already considered challenged in a lot of ways, so why add yet another challenge for him to deal with? Any thoughts? I think it has to do with the fact that it had to be something that nobody else knew about and that was a really big reveal to Amy. I don't think it would have had the same impact if it was something everybody else already knew about or would have easily suspected, like for example some other phobia or whatever. This type of secret hoarding also fits his OCD and personality so it's also quite believable. And furthermore, NDA or not*, opening up to Amy about something like that shows a great deal of trust and vulnerability. And I think that is the point of this episode - not that Amy is there to help him with his issues as some sort of therapist or whatever, but rather that she's a person he can trust with stuff like that and seek out for support. They're in a relationship and she's his partner and confidant. I think it was @jlove (correct me if I'm wrong) who said many pages ago how Sheldon needs to learn to trust those people around him and I think this is part of this journey. (*I mean, that kind of thing is essentially meaningless. What would he do if Amy told Leonard about it? Sue her?? lol It's really just for his own comfort and obsession about contracts.) Just to add: I think it's also an excellent visual story telling device. We all know Sheldon is a mess and has a gazillion issues but it's always hard to make that kind of stuff tangible and seeing certain reactions to Sheldon as a character some people simply can't grasp what he's dealing with. But when you have a storage full of old stuff it's a brilliant way to show it. Just like Amy you can have that kind of reaction and simply being overwhelmed by the whole issue because it's just such a big physical thing suddenly. And that's a great way to draw a parallel how Sheldon must often feel. Edited March 17, 2016 by April

Thank you for the details, they episode is going to be amazing, and it's fortunate, since we have to wait so long for it! Besides what April said, I think a possible explanation for it could be reinforcing some of the aspects of their making up. After 9x09, Amy wanted Sheldon back quirks and all, no conditions asked, since she realized that he was the person she wanted. And she was allowed to have that epiphany because Sheldon trusted her when she propose to go together to the aquarium, even if he thought it could be a very weird situation. Here she sort of expresses the same feeling again. No matter what Sheldon's issues might be, as long as he is going to trust her and tell her his difficulties, she is going to be there, without judging him, because he is the person she wants. It had to be a "new" expression of his OCD, because in order to have this dynamic unfolded, there should have been trust on his side and acceptance on her side, and that for me would have been more evident with something nobody knew. Hoarding is something you don't expect from Sheldon, because involves being "messy" and being attached to things. Those are stuff difficult to admit for Sheldon, but he decided to be honest and that was a good decision.
Stephen Hawking Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 A similar hoarding story took place on Friends, involving Monica, but Chandler just made fun of her. Glad to hear Amy didn't make fun of Sheldon.
Desdemona Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) I´m somehow not surprised that Sheldon has a warehouse where he keeps everything that is precious for him. He has lost members of his family in the early years of his life, which affected him a lot, so maybe that´s the reason why he keeps everything, because he can´t let them go, because he wants to have at least one thing in his life, that he can make sure, that wouldn´t leave him. A great proof for Sheldon´s fear to loose someone, is the episode where Leonard has this nose surgery and Sheldon is frightened that something could happen to him, so he waits in the waiting hall for him, but as soon as the earthquake begins, he panics and wants to go to the operating room, to see if Leonard is ok and runs against the glass door. You're welcome! :D I really can't wait to see the episode cause I want to write so much more about it. Like, coming back to the Spock parallels and seeing how much that measures up to what I'm thinking this means in the grand scheme of things. I mean, remember how much we talked about that damn Spock tape and how great it would be if Amy saw such a vulnerable side of him?? Without having seen 9x19 I think this might just be it. But instead of a tape that had a bit of an audience with Lenny/etc. being there, THIS one is truly a secret and something Sheldon has a hard time dealing with and probably an even harder time opening up to towards Amy. And from your description the episode also hits a few similar emotional notes with Sheldon's distress and vulnerability. So it feels like it's basically what we wanted all those months ago but in a different package and bigger and better! (I'm so digging it when we get some meaty stuff to talk about in this thread. Can we go back to our essay writing days? Because I miss those!) ~~ On a less dramatic note: I'm immensely enjoying all the stuff coming from Paley and the biggest delight is probably Captain Jim downright campaigning for more Shamy pillow talk in pretty much every interview I've seen with him. The man is on a mission! Make it happen, writers! LOL Edited March 17, 2016 by April

Bella Duveen Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Oh, I know it's all been said before, but it was so beautiful! Funny too, with the rest of the guys at the Movie with Wil Wheaton! So sweet how they were so nervous together, and I love how Amy raced down the stairs to get waxed after the girls told her! It must have been so important to Sheldon that this happened - he wouldn't have missed that movie for anything but her, and Proton's appearance shows it all came from him. Lovely episode - really enjoyed it!
