The Mushroom Log Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Season 8 was one of the most unfunniest season in.sitcom history. Sorry sorry, too much drama :D. I found that it wasn't as consistent in its humour as previous seasons. They were more continuously funny whereas Season 8 really just had a few laugh-out-loud moments (or at least attempts at them) interspersed here and there.I can count the number of funny moments in Season 8 on my hands (or even just a hand)...what does that tell you?! Stand out for me was probably the pigeon scene in 'Clean Room'.

Friends had that periord of stagnitism. Then s8 happened, maybe s9 well be Bbt equivalent to.s8 Friends. Fresh new storylines is what needs. Yes, the last season was kind of static, for me on purpose, and this fact impacted not only in the plot, but also in the pure comedy...For some reasons TPTB decided that "nothing" had to happen in S.8; I think this has something to do with the fact they don't\didn't (for me now they have an answer to that question) know for sure how many seasons they have, so they didn't want to "spoil" some BIG events (like breaking the 4A/4B arrangements, Lenny's wedding, etc) too soon. And, by the way, IMO this is also the reason why S8 focused mainly on Shamy (not that I'm complaining about it...) Given their previuos pace, you can build a whole season on them, and still don't touch the main issues of their relationship. Of course they took a very big risk doing that, many fans complained about the lack of developements or the regression of their beloved characters, and I want to believe that the "shocking" finale may be a signal they understood the problem. I'm very excited for Season 9!!! hopefully in Season 9 they will have a different pace.

5Mississippis Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 The finale script has the exact same writers as this premiere script!I know it remains to be seen and I really do hate to pre-judge but this makes me very sad. When it was mentioned that they keep it hidden because everyone is worried about Shamy, I thought that would be perfect. Just like the cold open in 7.23, when everyone pretty much ignored Lenny to run to Raj. Then I thought about it some more. If they don't tell anyone they got married, it could be a repeat of season 8. Go all year with showing them as a couple only a few times, then show movement by them telling everyone in the last episode of the year, with the added bonus of the show not having to worry about breaking up the 4A-4B. I been mulling this scenerio over and I have yet to see the charm in any of this.
rubyanjel Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 I know it remains to be seen and I really do hate to pre-judge but this makes me very sad. It makes sense that they're writing it because they were the ones responsible for the finale and the ones able to pick up from what happened from there. Though, as the finale was in a sad note, one can't help to have a knee-jerk response that it will be the same. I'm not saying it's bad, but that it's totally understandable. 3ku11 Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 (edited) I.just want my light hearted, geeky, fluffy comedy back. If i want to.watch a bad dramady, ill watch himy heh. Heck when show starts either marry Lenny or move in together. Tbh i.hope are married get it over and done with. All this stalling is stalling the "nothing happens this season" and the show. Its getting in the way of quality of the comedy. Needs resolution. Heck if they wanted to Lenny already be married by s6, and Shamy would of already done it a million times haha. But they to delay growth. They also struggle to accomodate seven characters. Until theirs resolution to the characters relationships, the pure comedy well continue to suffer. Especially with loosing its impact, on the opposite spectrum of their run. Edited August 6, 2015 by 3ku11

It was all smooth-sailing and static...so they decided to leave everything for the finale! That single episode probably had more significant plot development than the rest of Season 8 altogether. Which is a little sad, tbh...The dynamics will definitely be a little different in Season 9, at least in the premiere. Hopefully this will lend itself to a change of pace...but who knows?I think we can all agree though that we want Season 9 to be funnier than Season 8 was! It should live up to its genre as a comedy. Maybe then it will be in the running for an Emmy in 2016

TBBT could at least be nominated next time My expectations are probably the lowest they've ever been for anything TBBT-related, but I'm going in with a positive mind. Even if it's bad now (for any storyline), it will hopefully get much better later on. Staying optimistic is obviously easier said than done but it's so important to not just focus on the negatives. Who knows, they might surprise us all and Season 9 will end up being the best season we've ever had!

After all.these years the feature of the show is still Leonard and Sheldon. Just overall back to being an.ensemble.

tmp Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 I don't think the last word of the title is ultimatum because it's not sciencey enough to fit the pattern of episode titles for the series.

They struggle futilely against what they meant to be. But let's see.I like it the other way around, they get married but Penny is still pissed/hurt over the whole kissing thing so when they get back they both go to their own apartments, a situation similar to Leonard being made to sleep on the couch. They could not talk to each other and the gang could think they are broken up because when asked they both seem unconcerned, because they actually know their married. Sheldon's breakup with Amy could make them keep the secret longer, not to upset him, and they end up sneaking around after they make up. Then the 200th episode can be used to reunite Shamy and let Lenny's marriage secret out, so Lenny can move in together and Amy can move into 4A. Well, it's not a slap in the face (or what my boyfriend thinks as he loves his Silicon Valley too much for being a Mike Judge fanboy) if you think that they're two different comedy shows. There were similarities, but it's like comparing a pizza to gnocchi.I would imagine that in season 9 there will be an awkward marriage topic coming along and for being a Shamy fangirl for so long, I cannot for the life of me imagine what they writers are thinking for this coming season. I think I need a binge watch for Season 8. Oy vey.

Guest Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 (edited) Actually, I didn't mind Season 8. It had its funny moments. I've been watching repeats of certain episodes of Season 8 and did find some laugh out loud moments. When I first watched them, I didn't laugh as much but I didn't watch Big Bang Theory when I normally watch it (8 at night) since I had other commitments on Thursday nights this past year. I would watch it at 11 at night from the West Coast Feed and was usually tired and not interested in watching that much. At 11 at night, I watch TV to make myself tired and that is what usually happens. I fall asleep! Isabelle Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 IT'S ABOUT TIME THEY FIX THE ELEVATOR, no one says anything, no more yellow tape and once everybody realise it and start using it like they enter the twillingt zone, Leonard breaks it again. I'm thinking neither of us will be on the money. I don't understand really why they would not tell Sheldon if they are married. There is being considerate and then there is putting a friendship ahead of your marriage. I feel the married couple owe themselves more. Either you are in the marriage or not. Id be disappointed if they were married and didn't revel in it. That'd be sadder than an unmarried couple having a break. And because no time had passed we might see Amy totally reverse her position. Sheldon hasn't suffered for long yet. It's only the audience that has felt the prolonged pain.
