I would die laughing if it turned out Penny and Sheldon were related somehow. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

He already has one "dumb" sister so it seems he could handle it. Don't know about Penny through :icon_cheesygrin:

I usually don't trust anything that comes of the inquisitr web site they are usually way off, so it's probably just a rumor, but it would be an interesting twist.

As for the first article, even if it would be kind of funny (not for Shenny shippers, of course) to discover that Sheldon and Penny are actual relatives, I think it's just a rumor, hopefully writers can do better than that!

The second article is in my opinion more interesting, at least it is based on a Mayim Bialik interview and she actually said those things. I don't know if she is spoilering something she already knows, all actors in the cast say that they don't know anything about the script before they receive it, so maybe is just how she feels about the ring. Anyway, it is interesting that she has that feeling, I guess she knows very well the way the writers think and act, so, to tell the truth, after seeing on youtube her interview, I've started to be less excited  and now I don't really think we will see a proposal this new season. I trust her impressions more than mine here!

I hope to be wrong, not just as Shamy shipper, but also because, if it is not an engagement ring, I can see only  silly explanations for it (like, I don't know,..."I've found this somewhere, should I go to the police to return it?") and this will be beneath the writers usual skills!

I'm not ruling out a proposal just yet...as awesome as Mayim is, at the end of the day she is not on the writing panel so this is more than likely just her own personal interpretation of the finale. She also probably doesn't want to give anything away that would resolve the cliffhanger because then less people would tune in for Season 9.

I personally think it was an engagement ring that Sheldon was holding, with the intention of eventually giving it to Amy. The only other plausible explanation would be something like a promise/commitment ring (which to be honest, I'd still be okay with). If it was a silly explanation like you said, then why on earth would they have Sheldon pondering what to do with the ring right after Amy decides to take a break?! If this is the case, then it will be quite possibly some of the laziest writing I've ever seen, as a way of drawing in viewers for the next season.

All the signs point to an engagement ring (or promise/commitment ring at the very least). My bet is that this is just Mayim's opinion, and not necessarily what the writers have in store for the next season.

I really hope you are right, not only for the engagement itself, but, as you said, I would be really annoyed to be drawn in by the writers with this trick (even if I don't really need a special reason to watch next season...). As if it was a promise ring, I don't know if I would be ok with it, but I guess is just a "cultural" thing, promise rings are not very common in my Country, so for me they sound kind of weird...

I don't put any stock in what Mayim says either.  I can't remember where I read it but she was against Sheldon and Amy becoming boyfriend/girlfriend in season 5 (saying it was too soon or something) and Jim had to talk to her to get her to understand it.  Not that the writers would have given a shit what her opinion was on the matter but remember, she's the one that wants them to go slower than even Sheldon does sometimes and Jim wants them to speed it up.  So as far as Mayim's opinion....it doesn't matter.  She's not a writer.

And as far as what the ring actually is....I say it's an engagement ring.  What else could it possibly be and still make sense?

A promise ring is for teenagers.  Sheldon and Amy are in their early to mid thirties.  And it's so 50-60ish.  I would be pissed if it was anything BUT an engagement ring.

Interesting.  Now we are all worried about what Mayim said (remember that is her interpretation--even her interpretation of what transpired is different from Jim Parsons who saw it as a break up and she sees it as a break).  I think we all have too much time on our hands!

That's a good point that Mayim generally wants their relationship to slow down. I forgot about that and for me that really just reinforces the fact that this is her own opinion. We all have our theories about how Season 9 will unfold, Mayim is simply sharing hers.

I wouldn't necessarily complain if it turned out to be a promise ring, and even though it is generally something that teenagers do (and a little old-fashioned at that), Shamy do have a quirky relationship so let's be honest, would it really be that out of the ordinary?!

That being said, I would much rather it be an engagement ring (who wouldn't?!)!!! I literally don't see how it could be anything else.

But to have it be a promise ring rather than an engagement ring would be soooo stupid (IMO)!!!  They've dragged their feet long enough with this damn relationship to the point I'm starting to get sick of watching it.  I'm still on the ship but I'm standing at the edge of the boat looking out to sea and contemplating throwing my life boat in and sailing off in it while I yell, "Call me when there's some REAL action!"

I now understand Amy's frustration.  And I'm sorry but Sheldon can't possibly be that stupid and clueless with a 187 IQ.  He seemed more socially aware in the earlier seasons than he is now!

Really? I had no idea...This puts her words in a very different light; maybe it's just a wishful (from her POV) thinking :-))) Let's see what happens...

Yeah, sometimes us Shamy's have face palmed ourselves at some of the things she has said in interviews about Shamy and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's wanted to contact Jim somehow and say, "Hey, um, Mayim needs talking to again."

So again, I don't pay too much attention to what she has to say about Shamy.  I'd rather listen to Jim's opinion on it.  I know she ships them but sometimes it seems Jim ships them way more than she does.

Not gonna lie, but I know the feeling. Even now, I'm starting to grow a little bit tired of it all. I think it's just because the show is on a hiatus, and we haven't had any new episodes for such a long time, there isn't really anything new to get excited about (aside from getting swept up in the various rumours about Season 9). This happened to me during last year's hiatus as well, so I know that my fangirling/general Shamy shipping will be back to normal come August 11...

I completely understand Amy's frustration, so her wanting to take a break is something I saw coming from a mile away. As for Sheldon's social awareness, or lack thereof, I was actually watching a Season 1 episode on TV today and I also found that he is so much more socially aware than he is now. He may have matured a bit but my family and I all noticed that he was written to be particularly inept in some instances during Seasons 7 and 8 (not all of it, just a couple of moments here and there).

I really don't want a promise ring but I'd be ok if that's the way the writers decide to go. I want it to be an engagement ring so badly!!!

I think, if you go back and look at season 1 you'll find that episode1-7 Sheldon is much more socially aware then the later episodes(after a he writers strike).  There were a few tweaks  in characterization after the strike, part of that was Sheldon being more incapable, socially.

I expect Mayim gets taken by surprise at times by stuff in the show she did not expect but I think she generally gives good interviews. I also think she is smart and insightful. Quotes in print are not as reliable as video interviews though.

I don't know what interview that was but the stuff she is saying here seems reasonable. The interviewer does not seem to know anything though.

It was not this interview....It was an interview for some journal, Los Angeles Times, or something like that....I'll try to find it later...i agree this one was strange, the journalist seems very excited to talk with her but he doesn't know much about the show. And all the Friends references are irritating to me!

This was very interesting. Amazing for people like us who are extremely invested in this television show to hear one of its actors refer to her role as a job. I need to see if there is a fan page for 50 something yr old paralegals! But seriously, thanks for posting these!!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I had one of those moments when Kaley was talking about her almost losing her leg. She said something about having to call work... And I was like...work?  It's the show.

It's not jarring anymore to hear actors say that, as I've gotten used to hearing my daughter talk about work, on the various shows she's done.

Well technically, it IS work to them, isn't it?  They have a job to do and they get paid for it.  Same as us.  Only difference is millions of people see them do their job at times.  And I'm sure they have to do things that they HAVE to do or lose it.  Just like us.  We either do the job we're paid to do or get fired eventually.

Do you really think Jim, a gay man who's been in a decade plus relationship, WANTS to kiss one of his female co-workers.  Of course he doesn't.  I'm sure he doesn't mind doing it but I also don't think he'd mind if he never had to do it again.  But it's part of his job since the character he plays is in a romantic relationship now.

I remember seeing some panel of all the characters (most of them anyway....there was 14 in all, half of them being from TBBT) from Chuck Lorre's shows and the interviewer asked if they ever strayed from the script or something.  All 14 of them, all at once, said "No!"  as if they wouldn't dare even think of doing such a thing.  What I thought was amusing and interesting was they ALL reacted the exact same way.  I got the feeling you either do it the way Chuck wants it done or else.

I don't have a problem with actors describing what they do as work because to them it is.  We all have to make a living some how in this world and theirs is acting.

I totally agree, Kathr2611. It definitely is a job for them. That doesn't mean they don't enjoy it, as I'm sure they enjoy the fruits of their labor which has afforded them very comfortable lives. That being said they put in the long hours and have to memorize a whole bunch of stuff not to mention really make us (and the millions who watch every week) believe that they really are their characters and not themselves, so...

Still though, it's an interesting perspective to hear the actors refer to the show as simply a job, considering how invested in it we all are here on this forum!

It just so happens to be an extremely well-paying job that entertains millions of people around the world. Kudos to all of them for the tremendous effort they put in each week!

Nice interview. Everything she is saying makes perfect sense from my point of view. Although she does not actually watch TBBT she actually knows and interacts with the writers so she is going to have insights that we the fans may never have. Also  her time in academia gives her some perspective that the other actors won't have. Of the cast I find her interviews the most interesting.

Steve says the premiere will start a few hours after the finale. http://tvline.com/2015/07/10/big-bang-theory-chuck-lorre-scorpion-spinoff-joke/

I think he made it sound like they would start with Leonard and Penny too, I don't know if thats just me tho.

Also the writers have been back for 4 weeks. [ S C R E A M ]
