[Spoilers] Discussion Topic: Season 9

I was super disappointed about reading how Leonard/Penny wedding came about.  I thought this was the main couple of the show for 8 seasons, they should get a beautiful wedding, with their friends, and family watching.  Leonards family meeting Penny' family would have been comedy gold.  Vegas wedding, no friends, Skyped, with Shamy drama in the background.  Was terrible to hear this.

Now they are making Leonard into quite the little bad guy hey?  Again, 8 seasons if character development destroyed.  He wouldn't kiss another girl, AND keep it from Penny AND work with her for years?  Terrible.  Just terrible.

I'm a total Shamy fan, so I was sad to see this break up.  I wish they could have worked things out in their own unique weird way.  This drama doesn't feel Shamy, it feels like every other sitcom.  I really hope they don't hook them up with other people just to get them back together later.  I liked how they were learning everything together.  It'll be hard to watch Amy dating someone else.  Or Sheldon for that matter.  Where did the comedy go?  I think they'll end up ok, but boy do I wish this season started differently.

Just wondering, will someone be writing a taping report on the official TR thread?

Luna, there is one there. But, to warn you, it is simply any of the reports posted to, the discussion thread. There may be links, if we are notified of another one at another site, along with any BTS notes we get from those who attended a taping( I have to copy some of that BTS stuff, but won't get to it until tonight.). Just remember, the thread is an archive, so comments aren't allowed there.

The writers should be fired, I'm sorry.

Writing such things isn't just unfunny or OOC, it is just rude.

Who are you apologizing to? Who is going to fire them? The producers are some of the writers. I expect the option would be to cancel and I don't see that happening with the current contracts. People with vote with their viewing habits.

Time will tell if the show just jumped the shark or not. I expect it to still be a money maker but the days of increasing viewership might be over.  I also expect some resolution to the current situation before too long. Mayim has a contract.

How they will resolve Lenny I don't know. Perhaps boat girl will come on and say it was all in Leonard's head. Someone slipped him some hallucinogen.

I'm beginning to believe that the writers do not give a shit about lenny. Leonard cheating, crab wedding and arguing on their wedding night and not spending it together. 8 years just thrown to the scrap yard. This is not good. Sent from my SM-N910F using Tapatalk

if they didn't think they were robust, they wouldn't beat them up like this. Because they beat them up like this they will be fine. We just will only ever see the beatings. But they will have some moments of joy... In those moments when the beatings stop.  There has to be some contrast. And if the creatives get it wrong.... well there are always the residuals. :)

Yes I understand that. Thank you Tensor.

Hey I'm curious, since you're not a shipper (based on reading past posts you've made), how do you feel about the way the show currently is?

I rated 8.24 as excellent (along with a lot of other people). I also enjoyed most of season 8 although a few episodes were a bit flat for me and sometimes it's the very episodes that many on here give a higher rank to. I react to science references and si-fi references more than many. By the way I did not watch Friends, HIMYM or TAHM. I did watch Everyone Loves Raymond and there was plenty of conflict and drama in that..

Ah I see. It's great that you're enjoying the new seasons and I understand that the fluffier, ship-related episodes might not do much for you as it does for others. I haven't really watched any of the sitcoms you've named. In fact TBBT is the first American primetime sitcom that I got really into.

Anyway, it feels really nice to talk to non-shippers (there's much less drama there) :icon_wink:

We all are. Tptb are up to something. Sent from my SM-N910F using Tapatalk

Agree with everything you say here. I hope they're not running on some stupid 'market research' that is telling them to do some sort of breakup, irrespective of how illogical it might appear to us. WTF are TPTB up to? And will they damage what we know and love to achieve it? Serenity indeed!

What is the name of the episode?

"The writers' defecation" . Well, if it isn't it should be. They did take a giant shit on lots of the characters we know and love.

If the writers are good (just sayin).., this shamy break up should make for some good tv. Amy needs to be schooled in relationships and how they are not like romance novels or fan fiction and Sheldon need to be schooled on social convention and women101. just my opinion

Hhhhhm no. The writers were good. Now they've run out of ideas, and are pulling situations out of their asses. I would agree with what you say expect that as someone pointed out if what happened was inevitable, it should have happened some time ago and not after so much growth which took place during S8. It rings artificial, manufactured and not organic

Great more drama. I must be watching a different show because the last time I checked bbt was a comedy show.

Who says a comedic sitcom should always be devoid of drama?

Even then, if we're ever going to get to the bottom of what happened on the boat and the last 2 years, then her character is a necessary evil.

Given with what we know, I'm guessing Penny had a better honeymoon with Zach.

"We don't know that for sure, at least not to an absolute certainty." :p

-Sheldon

In all seriousness remember they did their's as a joke thinking it wasn't real.  So who's to say there was one?

That's why it's a comedy and they have an audience. If I wanted drama I will watch soaps. Sent from my SM-N910F using Tapatalk

Anyone know how early they'll release the teaser trailer for this episode? I know during the season it's within the week prior to the episode airing, but for premieres do they release it early?

They probably won't release it all that early.  When they start to do promos for the general season, perhaps, but probably just a week or two beforehand.

They may do a little earlier push because they want to be sure that people know the show will be on Mondays for the first few weeks, but they won't want to tease too far ahead and have people forget or whatever.

I'm sure they'll have a big dramatic moment to push with Sheldon and Amy breaking up, with Leonard and Penny getting married, which will hopefully get people fired up to see what's going to happen.

they have to have situations. They are creating novel situations. Who else in TV has stuffed up his wedding before AND after. That's our Lenny. Breaking new ground in comedy. And maybe he did cheat, serially. What is value of monogamy anyway. Maybe what we are seeing is a subversive deconstruction of cultural norms, aimed at making society question its fundamentals. It's a giant experiment.

Not everybody feels that way, some dont mind a little drama in their comedy and vice versa.  Many sitcoms have had their share of drama in them.  From mash, the Simpsons, futurama, community, scrubs, boy meets world, fresh prince of bel air, cheers, the wonder years, roseanne, how I met your mother, the office, modern family, everybody loves Raymond, and mom, just name a few.  All these were met with some form of praise for their dramatic moments.  Why can't bbt do that as well?

I don't mind a little drama in sitcoms. As long as it doesn't start to  affect the show in serious way. Every sitcoms has it dramatic moments, some sitcoms (like All in The family and Roseann) are meant to have dramatic movements because  of the type of shows they are and you expect it.  However Big Bang Theory is not a sitcom that meant to be all about drama and have much drama. It only something that happening in last few seasons. If anything it becoming more Soap Operish then dramatic.

But as long as their is a good balance to the comedy and drama and don't let Drama take over completely it fine.

However I have seen more complaints about it becoming way too Relationship centric but I guess that part of the drama.

Reading all posts fromm season 3-5 it interesting how many  of the old members  stop watching the show after those seasons because it  was changing courses and becoming more relationship-type-show.

I will always like season 1-3 but I also lke 4-7 and the new direction it took after season 3.

So I'm supposed to laugh at the drama that is lenny. I don't think so. Yes I get drama in small doses in comic sitcoms but when it uncalled for and comes out of thin air and no justification for it, then no I don't get it and isn't bbt suppose to be different from all those other shows.
