Well, it's their fault technically; for 8 Seasons Sheldon was supposed to be a Taurus (so to be born in late April/May) and suddenly he became a Pisces last season. Did they know last year that the 200th was going to be aired in late february? Is it all a conspiracy? LOL!!!

No, Penny said "Typical Taurus" in response to something Sheldon said. They never said that she actually knew that he was for a fact or if she was meerly guessing so I'm gonna give the show a pass on this one even though it is constantly re-writing history

And i definitely don't think Beverly flew in for Sheldon's birthday.

She might favor Sheldon over Leonard (which i said many times how much i hate this, i think her attitude towards Leonard is outrageous, even if i too favor Sheldon over Leonard big time, i think such attitude from her as a mother  is unacceptable), but she doesn't have respect for birthdays in general, doesn't make sense for her to fly in for Sheldon's birthday suddenly.

Why would one favor Sheldon over Leonard. Im just wondering. As Leonard seems to have more redeeming qualities. Sheldon doesent have.

I guess :)

I forgot that we also know the comic book store set was being put up. Stuart has Adam West at the store for a signing and they somehow convince him to come to a party at 4a?

My theory was that Amy asked Stuart for ideas/help and saw that he was having Adam West come to his comic bookstore or something because Stuart does get people coming there from time to time that are comic book heroes/stars, etc.   So the idea gets born out of that is my guess.  But I do think they are going to likely limit the sets to just the Comic bookstore and the apartment for this one because shuffling that many people all in one episode is going to be difficult enough.   So keeping set and camera movement, etc. simple is going to be important.

We know it is a birthday party and most likely Sheldon's, thus the reason for the celebration.  We know that there are some very strange guest configurations (Leslie, Beverly, etc.) but all do know Sheldon and so their being there is not really that odd.   Leslie could very well be there at the suggestion of Kripke (heck he might have even brought her as his date or set her up with Stuart).   But I am sure Wil/Leslie/Kripke are going to be up to no good and will try to stir up trouble.   Raj likely decorated and incorporated the help of Lenny and Howardette.    Beverly may have come out for other reasons (possibly to actually visit her son, gasp!) and thus was invited because she and Sheldon are good friends.   All have a reason they could be there.

The question is how fragmented of a story this may end up.   Will they even explain how all these came to be there or will they just not even care enough to explain it and just focus on what they want to accomplish at the party?   The writers are not always good at filling in blanks or explanations.   So it will be interesting to see how this episode is going to come across.  I suspect it will be very funny no matter what.

Well it doesn't look like she flew in to see lenny and according to the majority on this thread all the guests are here to see Sheldon the star of the show now, so why not Beverly as well.

Nah they love her being mean and I have no doubt they would write her flying across the country to visit Sheldon!

Of course it's makes sense for bev to fly in for allegedly Sheldon birthday and not to see her son to congratulate him on his recent marriage. And of course all of a sudden Leslie and Sheldon are now best buds. We are talking about tptb here. Get with the flow. ☺

I don't think she would go to his birthday. If this is a dream it does not need to make sense. Perhaps Sheldon is having a nightmare..

Yeah my money's on its all a dream sequence. Maybe its the cold open. Sheldons nightmare. He hates bday parties. Maybe Leslie shows up with Barry. Adam West doesent like Sheldon. Starts hooking up with Amy lol. Okay a bit exaggerated haha. But you catch my drift. Maybe it pushes him to want Amy to move in. So Lenny can move out? Or it reallly is Sheldons bday party.

I honestly don't think the writers' goal was to make it a Sheldon-centric episode.

They probably just wanted to gather as many guest stars as possible , even Leslie who we haven't seen for 5,5 years, since she was an important part of the earlier seasons, and looked for an excuse to do that, to do a tribute to the show...

also they probably wanted to give small plots to each of the 7 main characters (not like in some of S9 episodes where Amy or Raj got like 1 line). Obviously the easiest or probably the only way to do that was to have some big event to gather everyone under the same roof.

It's not their fault the date of the 200th episode is close to sheldon's birthday!

End of Febraury is not close to any big holiday, any SW event, and for all we know every other character's bday is on different month? (I'm not sure about Howard and Betnadette though?)

Sure it is they after all are the ones who chose not long ago to place his birthday at the time the 200th would air

But they have only dedicated s9 to Sheldon. Have you Been watching? Its been Sheldon Coopers Adventures and his Friends. So why would 200th be any different.

This post would probably get me many dislikes if there was a 'dislike' button, but i will say it.

Honestly, what did you guys expect ? Lenny's thing (unlike Howardette's , or Shamy's) from the beginning was the story of this insecure guy trying to get an unattainable girl. That was their 'thing'. That was the main source of comedy in the early days, along with Sheldon's quirks. Then later, the comedy was in all those failed proposals, etc. Now, once that happened, once they're married, i don't find it surprising the writers are struggling to find funny stories for them.
( and it's a sitcom, they're not just gonna create a story to please the shippers, if it can't be funny).

From the beginning Leonard was the most 'normal' of them all, so aside from his shyness/awkwardness with Penny, how can they still make him super funny without completely altering his personality?

My point is i don't think they're deliberately hating on Lenny. I just don't think now once they're married they can be as funny anymore, that's why less stories revolve around them.

And i also think that's why many stories are Sheldon-centric these days - they've let other characters grow, and they are inevitably a little less funny now, so Sheldon's their main laughs source now.

They've let go of Raj's selective mutism and Howard's creepiness, so they have to find other ways to keep their stories funny  - maybe that's the reason why they got Raj a girlfriend who loves to hang out at cemeteries, and why they keep repeating jokes about how Howard makes so much less than Bernadette and how she's baby-ing him sometimes.

And yes, i have been watching and they've also gave stories to Raj and Howardette this year (basically, with the baby Howardette r gonna have a year long arc now, just like when Howard went to space).

If it's not a dream then she should have a scene with either lenny or leonard or penny and it should be made clear she is visiting to see her son and his wife even if it's for 5 seconds then I might believe she is there for them and it happen to coincide with whatever the party is about.

Nah that's crap theirs still many stories they can conjure up many stories as a married couple. As Much as they did bk then. Its not about funny its just being lazy. Do Shamy get a ton of centric stories because they are funny? Not really. Theirs comedy in a young married couple settling into life. They showed potential their in Platonic Permutation. But they wont develop on it at all. And the story was only guy desiring unattainable girl in first season. I never saw Penny as unattainable to Leonard. As she was into Leonard just as much. They kissed in middle earth pretty much then. It was more nerd falls for girl. And girl falls for nerd just as much. I just dont buy they are not using them as THEY are not funny. Their are tons of plots they could do as a married couple. Itss easy to say that when the shows all about one couple and character. That one likes. Well most are sick and tired of them. And all the relationship crap storylines. Like Sheldons grandma, who gives a damn..im.sorry but start focusing on your already developed characters. Tptb cant seem to write stories that dont revolve around Sheldon. Yes Howardette are pregnant. But that's just the exception not the rule.

Sheldon hates surprise parties, perhaps he gets wind of it and scarpers, and only 'Batman' can save the day. It could be an episode rather like the Christmas 'It's A Wonderful Life' episode where he is notable by his abscence. Also, the gang got dressed up for their 'prom' and their 'dinner parties', so why wouldn't they dress like grown-ups for this.

Oh, and I know the conversation has moved on, but my husband and I tell our daughters how 'pretty' they are on a regular basis. Pretty, or beautiful. So, yes, 'hot' means something very different to 'pretty'.

Also, thinking about how the 'coitus' was handled by the writers, they've actually performed a minor miracle. A lot of shows jump the shark once the thing a large majority of the audience have been waiting for finally happens, particularly with romantic pairings. Yet somehow TBBT has managed to avoid the anticlimax and, if anything, they've upped the ante. I mean, look at the clutching at straws over a flippant remark about sex occurring in the heat of the moment and Amy 'looking knowing'. It was a herculean task set too:- Write a sex scene for the show's leading character who has displayed as asexual since it's onset. This scene must be funny, touching and wholly in character. While you're at it, avoid the pitfalls that accompany the culmination of a storyline that has been building over 5 seasons, and ensure that absolutely no tension is lost, even when the deed is done. In fact, start building the anticipation for the next sex scene before the sheets cool down on this one. Okay, got that? Now go write! .....and they did! And they delivered! ....and then some!

I favor Sheldon because i have a lot in common with him. Literally the only thing i have in common with Leonard is his care for environment, him being responsible etc, nothing else comes to mind. I don't hate him, i just can't relate to him.

And i don't favor Leonard because i don't understand how can he let people (mainly Sheldon and his mother, but in later seasons also Penny) treat him the way they do.
In regards to Penny and Beverly, he never says anything.
In regards to Sheldon, he keeps taking his bs, then one day he gets fed up and makes a sarcastic comment or does some passive aggressive thing.
I don't like it when people don't stand up for themselves openly. Sarcasm and occasional hidden 'revenge' (like in S2 when Leonard, instead of firmly standing his ground and telling Sheldon 'i won't be driving you', lets him believe he's still working nights, so Sheldon decides to live at Caltech) is not standing up for yourself.

A dream sequence seems legit too, if it's just one party scene it would explain why A: it's pre-taped and B: why they are giving so much away :)

I think the same.  The clapboard would seem to indicated that the party is the cold open.  Sheldon dreams it and then throughout the course of the episode he encounters all of the people in his dream.  Adam West and Wil at the comic book store, Kripike and Leslie at the university, Beverly at 4A.

Probably not...I've said before...I am a terrible guesser.  LOL.

I partially agree with you i think Lenny could be funny if the writers let them move out (like for that brief moment in 9x4)

But we all know they're reluctant on changing the living arrangements.

What does D mean?

There's the Cold Open at the very start and the Tag at the very end.  Every scene in between is noted as Scene A, B, C, D, E and so on (as many letters as they need, depending on the length of the script).

And even the Howardette pregnancy involved Sheldon, as they conceived on his bed. Cuz the writers had to work Sheldon in there somehow, right?
