LMAO. I'm ashamed to admit I'm a lightweight. A box lasts me weeks! I *may* have been a little tipsy in chat last week and that was just 1.5 glasses!

Some of the much earlier shows were filming year round...36 or more episodes a season.  There was no mid-season finale, no winter premiere, no DVD, no summer programming.  If TBBT ends after season 10, they will have logged 231 episodes.  IMHO, quite impressive in the modern era.

Yup. Leave it to Beaver, for example, ran for 6 seasons. At 234 episodes that's 39 episodes per season. Times have certainly changed!

The CBS schedule is showing the name of the 200th episode to be "The Celebration Experimentation".

Experimentation is interesting. Maybe Sheldon has that nightmare. And pushes Lenny to move out. And Amy.moves in.as an.experiment? Or im off base haha.

This post would probably get me many dislikes if there was a 'dislike' button, but i will say it.

Honestly, what did you guys expect ? Lenny's thing (unlike Howardette's , or Shamy's) from the beginning was the story of this insecure guy trying to get an unattainable girl. That was their 'thing'. That was the main source of comedy in the early days, along with Sheldon's quirks. Then later, the comedy was in all those failed proposals, etc. Now, once that happened, once they're married, i don't find it surprising the writers are struggling to find funny stories for them.
( and it's a sitcom, they're not just gonna create a story to please the shippers, if it can't be funny).

From the beginning Leonard was the most 'normal' of them all, so aside from his shyness/awkwardness with Penny, how can they still make him super funny without completely altering his personality?

My point is i don't think they're deliberately hating on Lenny. I just don't think now once they're married they can be as funny anymore, that's why less stories revolve around them.

The only way anyone would get dislikes from me is if they'd insult real people. Otherwise, no. I see your POV, I just really think the writers can make Leonard and Penny funny (naughty carrot, anyone?). The comedy lies in Leonard and Penny knowing each other so well and knowing how to push each other's buttons, not in the fact that they're pining for one another.

Quote

And i don't favor Leonard because i don't understand how can he let people (mainly Sheldon and his mother, but in later seasons also Penny) treat him the way they do.
In regards to Penny and Beverly, he never says anything.
In regards to Sheldon, he keeps taking his bs, then one day he gets fed up and makes a sarcastic comment or does some passive aggressive thing.
I don't like it when people don't stand up for themselves openly. Sarcasm and occasional hidden 'revenge' (like in S2 when Leonard, instead of firmly standing his ground and telling Sheldon 'i won't be driving you', lets him believe he's still working nights, so Sheldon decides to live at Caltech) is not standing up for yourself.

(bolding mine)

Well, maybe this explanation will help: he grew up with a mother who constantly belittled him, withheld love from him and basically treated him like a worthless experiment. When, in those formative years, would he have learned to develop any sort of confidence or strength as a person? It's a miracle he's as warm and loving as he is and not slowly rocking back and forth in a corner. Out of all the characters, Leonard gets the most respect from me. Yes, he messes up occasionally, but he's the most wonderful person and I don't understand how people don't just wanna hug him.

Would I love it if he just told his mother - and Sheldon sometimes for that matter - to fuck off? Oh boy, would I. Hopefully - after a few sessions with Dr. Gallo - he'll get there.

I wonder if there will be some kind of pivot in 200, like they pivoted at 100. No idea what. But it's nice they are having a party with bunting, inside the show. Party out the back and out front :) . Good for them. 200. Wow. I still recall the actors being  all agog at being picked up after the writer's strike in 2007. Now they are veterans, many times over for some. It's really a remarkable achievement. Getting something creative up and then keeping it running is pretty amazing. Think of all the shows that were then but aren't now. I hope they get silly for the event. All the team. Especially the costumes. In their plaid cocktail dresses and suits. :)

Starting a TV Show is always a risk and a bit scary. There no guarantee going into it that the show will be around a year from that point.  You could last 12 years or last only a episode. The show could be a massive failure and bomb your career and you'll never recover or it could be a smash hit (or start off slowly like TBBT  but eventually becomes a smash hit) and you become  famous over night. But in that case you could run the risk of being typecast when the show ends.

No one in 2007 thought this should would last much more then several episodes or even a season. it  was never at risk of cancellation and reached new heights in ratings every season up to season 7.

I never said the reasons i love Sheldon for includes him insulting Leonard . It's actually one of the few things i don't quite  like about Sheldon (when he's doing it on purpose).

No , i don't think that's messed up reasoning at all. If we were talking serious abuse, like domestic violence or bullying, obviously i'd be on the victim's side.
But what Sheldon does is not really abuse in my opinion. He says mean stuff to people a lot and occasionally does mean stuff (shoving a pie in Leonard's face) - his friends can:
1. stop being friends with him
2. explain to him why what's he doing is wrong and set up clear boundaries about what he shouldn't do and what they absolutely won't tolerate.
3. Do the same to him (Howard was fighting back in the Parking Spot Escalation episode... Why couldn't Leonard shove a pie in Sheldon's face?

I've said that many times but I've always thought Penny has been pretty much the only one who could always set up her boundaries and tell Sheldon to F off when needed, and stand up for herself ( i don't know why the writers changed that in S9, and how they went from 9x4 "we can think of him like he's our dog" to Penny tolerating toilet paper fines from Sheldon in 9x12)

Howardette baby will probably be born in the first episodes of S10, and a few episodes will be heavily about that - them managing to navigate their daily life now that they have a baby. I think that would last till maybe episode 7-8, which would be middle of november, and 9x16 is middle of Febraury, so to me  it's almost a year.

Ofc married couples can be funny. But in my opinion (which is just an opinion... ) Leonard from the beginning was made too "normal" to be super hilarious now that his super-nervous-over-Penny days are over. I was just rewatching S1 the other day and i remember the scene when Leonard was asking Penny out and when he was sweating through his shirt so badly, i laughed out loud, and throughout their whole date (i think it was 1x3), he was so funny/cute. I don't remember laughing as much in Leonard's moments in later seasons.

And me personally i could do fine without Shamy's wedding ; ) However i stand by my opinion - the wedding is usually the culmination of the story, at least it's usually seen like that for casual viewers. As a Shamy, i'd watch them until season 16 doing the smallest things - but i do believe once they're married, they inevitably would become less interesting for the general public... I think that's just how the tv and entertainment industry works. If it wasn't for that, FRIENDS writers wouldn't stall Ross and Rachel so much, not only get together in the finale of the series.

Referring to friends, I don't think Chandler and Monica got any less funny because they were married!

Agree here. And Mad About You was centered (in season 1 they were anyway) around a just Newlywed Married Couple and while it wasn't the best show Paul and Jamie certainly had some pretty funny moments together.

Nah, he already would have tweeted a pic of himself in Sheldon's spot, like the pics of HIM throwing a football for Super Bowl, or HIM looking at the moon on the anniversary of the moon landing.  :icon_razz:

Maybe there are just some scenes which involve the party, and they are shooting all of them today, out of order with respect to the actual episode...or maybe really is full of press out there and they are doing a run through for them. If this is the case, we'll have a lot of interviews and articles coming in our way!!

I thought Mondays they do full run through in dress and makeup/hair anyway?

Yes, but I was wondering whether they did the run through in front of the press, like they probably did for The Opening Night Excitation. That would be cool, we could also get different angles for some scenes (as for the second couch kiss in 9.11...), BTS, some interviews to the cast...

Yeah like When Leonard dated Priya. he was unatTainable. Then had him s6. Took granted again. Then Alex. Took.hrr a while to embrace her reality. And get rid of her idealistic views. Sheldons like in.the Dennis Kim ep. "Relationships and human contact well continue to confuse me, and baffle me". Then he conformed :icon_cheesygrin:

Yeah unfortunately Penny has needed the be reminded every so often in the past that Leonard has options other than her

To be fair. I dont think she ever expected to meet and fall for the nerd across the hall. I mean she prob dated A certain type since high school. I mean.Wyatt shed an.insight. Shes basically Bridgett all grown up. So I think meeting the guys threw her world view upside down. I think she liked shes the hot girl. And this guy adores her like shes Princess Kate haha. She kept him.at arms length. But always made sure women he dated knew who she was.

So she dated dumb gym types. Like in s1 she was like I.always go for a cute guy on a rebound. Then those guys ended up mistreating her. Call her shallow, superficial,  promiscuous etc. I remember how much grief she got for dumping Leonard in The Wheaton Reoccurance. But shes the only female in that scene. She lacked female role models. Hence why Amy and Bernadette have made such a huge influence on her life. And her relationship with Leonard.

But I think Penny was a character at.the beginning of her life. Who made bad choices. The guys were already established. So if you look at that way. Not so bad. Leonard she knew was different. But diddnt want to commit. Being neighbours and all etc. She was kinda idealistic too. Prob thought im.so pretty im the best Leonard's gonna get, how could he possibly have options. He won't ever leave me lol. So of course her self actualization has been deconstructed over the years. And has now embraced her reality with Leonard.
