. Prob thought im.so pretty im the best Leonard's gonna get, how could he possibly have options. He won't ever leave me lol.

Exactly this, she has even more or less said it More than once. What allways bugs me is ahe forgets to easily, she dumps Leonard he hooks up with priya she wants him m back he breaks up with priya she does nothing. They get back together she takes him for Granted again untill alex enters the picture, Alex is gone she takes him for granted again and to some extent she still does wi h her snark and he really tries or it was fine sex comments. She still thinks to some extent that he is lucky to have her and hitting thirty and realizing that looks fade she is rebeling by refusing to acknowledge that her life will never again be what it was when she was 20 and before she got together with leonard

Well yeah but taking that excerpt you kinda took what I Said out of context lol. Yeah she's like that. But I think.it comes from.a place of low self esteem. Maybe if she had a better relationship with her parents. I duno. She knows deep down I think shes luckey to have Leonard. I just think she also misses the attentionĀ of other men. Now she has a ring on her finger. Not that she wants to date anyone else. She's happily married now. But it all encompasses a more simple life. She's now 30 and life has suddenly gotten very complicated very fast. So shes looking for an outlet. So I hope that shrink returns. It well be healthy for her and Leonard. Your right shes never gonna return to her life in her 20s. I guess the show well never too. I do.think s10 could be last.

They are wrapping up all.these major milestones. Maybe for a big finish. I guess it depends on a ton of variables. Whether they go beyond s10. I think why she didn't get with Leonard after priya was done. As the show knew they couldn't use her anymore. So they needed a way to keep Lenny apart. So making it long distance was awkward enough. To give a reason for Penny not to date Leonard again. Hence why it took 13 eps in s5 for the reconciliation. Lately though I dont think shes made comments about Leonard's short comings etc. I just think Penny 1. Needss Career fulfillment and 2. Needs to accept her reality.

The only way anyone wouldĀ get dislikes from me is if they'd insult real people. Otherwise, no. I see your POV, I just really think the writers can make Leonard and Penny funny (naughty carrot, anyone?). The comedy lies in Leonard and Penny knowing each other so well and knowing how to push each other's buttons, not in the fact that they're pining for one another.Ā

I was looking forward to the naughty carrot scene from the TR but it was just gross when I saw it :bad:Ā

Leonard gets the short end of the stick a lot of the timeĀ he is the 'straight man' of the piece.Ā Penny gets to be funny all the time but normally he is in the sane 'voice of the viewer' role.

People are mentioning Everyone Loves Raymond as an example of a funny/non-boringĀ married couple, I've recently started watching that show and I'm nearly 100% certain that if Penny out and out called Leonard an "Idiot" asĀ Deborah did in the ep I watched yesterday, or they had the same sort of marital spats as theĀ Barone's do (nearly) every episode then people would kick off!Ā :icon_neutral:

Actually I found that hilarious lol. When Debra called Ray idiot. It was really her catchphrase. Its just married banter. In.the end they are family. Not sure why.you.thought it was gross NC scene. But I think that was the point the awkwardness of it. Are you.saying Johnny.doesent look.good. in a nightie? Lol. I think the overall point is their banter was funny. Not just the dancing scene. Which I.think.the show should consider submitting Johnny for an Emmy.

I think that's a large part of the problem what the hell is "career fulfilment angst" doing in a sitcom? The show needs to stop all the deep philosophical bs and go back to trying to be a comedy again all this angst/personal evaluation/misc drama just ain't funny. the best TBBT was simple TBBT when they were trying to make us laugh not prove what good writers they are, "see we can write drama, angst etc. See how talented we are!!!" It is supposed to be funny first and foremost, they have lost that, they need to stop polishing their resumes and do their damn job.... IMO

It would be a start, I honestly think the only reason we got any star wars references in the great Shamy bang bang ep is because they knew they had to or people would complain they didn't make a SW episode they worked SW INTO an episode there is a big difference

[ --SNIP --]

I thought the Naughty Dancing Carrot was hilarious! Between Season Hate and now Season Not So Fine, that is the only time I screamed, laughing out loud. Still do when I watch it.Ā

Additional big laughs for me: when Leonard and Sheldon stopped signing the Roommate Agreement and looked around the room to see if their future selves were dropping in because one of them invented time travel and; when Leonard flew across the length of the sofa trying to stop Penny from finding the hidden coin during the scavenger hunt.Ā

Same. Johnny just owned thatĀ episode. If they don't talk about that scene at the Paley Fest panel, I'm gonna feel robbed.

I think, like life, character development afterĀ so many years can get messy. But, it is also what hooks us as fans. I probably would have quit the show if the characters were still just 2 dimensional joke machines. For me, the romances, the friendships, the fights, the miscommunication, the back stories, and yes, some of the drama and angst along with so much really funny stuff have made TBBT my favorite comedy ever. It's why we are so invested.Ā It's what makes us Ā shippersĀ passionate, happy, angry, miserable, competitive,Ā combative, cranky and ecstatic and nostalgic.

So, I guess it is a real struggle for the writers to find that happy balance and sometimes they tip too far to the edge of what is funny and what is too much drama.Ā Ā But they get it right a lot too or we wouldn't be having conversations about year 10!

So here's to more fun for everyone in however much time we have left to watch!

Ā

Well, maybe this explanation will help: he grew up with a mother who constantly belittled him, withheld love from him and basically treated him like a worthlessĀ experiment. When, in those formative years, would he have learned to develop any sort of confidence or strength as a person? It's a miracle he's as warm and loving as he is and notĀ slowlyĀ rocking back and forth in a corner. Out of all the characters, Leonard gets the most respect from me. Yes, he messes up occasionally, but he's the most wonderful person and I don't understand how people don't just wanna hug him.Ā

Would I love it if he just told his mother - and Sheldon sometimes for that matter - to fuck off? Oh boy, would I. Hopefully - after a few sessions with Dr. Gallo - he'll get there.

Ā

Not only that but when verbal abuse is all that you know, one does tend to equate that with love sad to say.Ā  So while Leonard doesn't like it, he sees it as that is the only form of how someone expresses love and caring to him.Ā  I mean look at some of the things that they've all said to him.Ā  He takes it.Ā  Maybe because he sees it as 'well at least they're talking to me' type of situation.

To truly take a stand in his mind could risk what he has.Ā  I mean his mother may be mean but she still talks to him.Ā

I don't understand why anyone would think it is totally Leonard's place to walk away if people are treating him badly.Ā  Are they not also equally responsible to treat their best friend, friend, husband, son properly?

Just a thought...

The PopTart is a PeopelPleaser. Dr. Gallo probably diagnosed him in a minute. Common in children of overcritical parents who withhold love or dole it out conditionally. He very much wants to be loved and needed. Ā I think he hasĀ improved over the years, but he sure still struggles with it.Ā

This exchange from The Expedition Approximation gave what I though was great insight in to the make of Leonard's character.

Penny: Well, if I do well in sales, I could end up making a lot more money than you.

Leonard: Not a problem. I grew up with a mother who emasculated my father financially and in every other aspect of his life, so really, it’s what I think love looks like.

Then again the show forgot they wrote that line and have him have a problem with it laterĀ :icon_rolleyes:

Penny has called Leonard a jerk, an ass and a looser. I have seen a lot ofĀ Everyone Loves Raymond episodes and overall Deborah was a lot better in her treatment of Raymond than Penny has been to Leonard. Penny has been a lot nicer this season but when things are going smoothly Lenny is in the background.Ā

Yikes. Leonard classes being outearned by his lover as some sort of symbolic castration? Interesting. Can we add that to the list of 'can we please explore this fascinating issue inside Leonard's increasingly twisted little noggin?'

I'm not sure which people you mean?

They have done a lot of Star Wars since ep7 was first announced. I can't remember SW fans complaining about the way it was worked into the episode. On here almost all the talk was about Shamy. I enjoyed the star wars references. Actually I thought it was really well done.

We can expect more coming up withĀ another sw related movie this coming December.

I just don't see how Leonard is being abused, emotionally, whenever somebody tells him something sarcastic or something that he doesn't like (or what viewers think that he doesn't like). Is that what some of you are saying? How is he being emotionally abused (other than by his mother, mind you)? What is the pattern, the instances?

Ā
Ā
Not to mention, Leonard has been able to stand up for himself when he wanted from very early in the show (remember Kurt during the Halloween party, Leonard calling Penny out on dating that scientist that she considered more attractive than him, dating Priya despite Raj's protests, etc.) And he has shown that he can be sarcastic back just as good. Every one of the four guys had problems in their childhood one way or another, and almost all had less then perfect relationships with their mothers (but again, not se severe as Leonard's). Not saying that everyone is great towards him and that he sometimes doesn't stand up for himself, but I don't see how is he getting abused in the first place, or how should he stand up to "that", or how we is apparently too weak (generally speaking) or something.
Ā
Ā
And if he feels that he is being mistreated, yes, most of the blame comes to people responsible for that, but shouldn't he at least express his disdain of that, therefore baring some responsibility for his own life, as a grown man? (And yes, the same applies to Sheldon, Howard, Raj, Penny, etc.) In case the conditions (Leonard's)Ā are as unfair as some people see them to be, which is still baffling to me.

I usually love the relationships, but have to admit this is becoming more of a tella novella than a science related show. Ā I mean, there are 5 working scientists Ā and a pharmasutical rep. and a doctor--you'd think there would be more than break-ups and make-ups.
