Wow, what a bible, lol. Thanks for clarify :icon_biggrin:

Well you asked.

I found it informative even though I was not asking. Even the low end is kind of mind boggling to me. It is a different world to the one I live in.

Because of the way contracts in the business  work.  Just remember, the following is based on reports and are in the ballpark, though probably not completely accurate.  The amounts are per episode.

At the beginning of the show, Johnny and Kaley were known quantities from their previous history on TV.  Jim, while more of an unknown quantity was part of the original unaired pilot and was given billing over Kaley on the new show, although all three were getting around $60k).  Simon and Kunal, were, like Jim, more of an unknown quantity on TV and reports had them getting $25k.   TV actors generally sign a contract that ties them to the show for seven years (if it continues that long) when they sign to a show.  There are generally clauses in the contracts that allow the actors to renegotiate their salary after three years, if the show is successful.   All of the original five did this after the third year.

Kaley, Jim, and Johnny originally planned to negotiate together, but Jim broke away and wanted more money, Warner Brothers basically told him no.  They got an escalating salary (from $200k in year four to $325-350K, depending on sources) in year seven.  Simon got raises to $100k in year five, Kunal was reported to be getting $75k.   Jim, Johnny and Kaley also got part of the back end (syndication rights) worth a quarter of a point.

In year four,  Melissa and Mayim joined the main cast.  That would have taken them to year 10.   After season six, they were able to renegotiate, which they both did.  Reports have them getting raises from $20-30k for their original contracts, to starting at $60k in their fourth year (year 7 of the show) increasing to $100k by the end of their contracts.  I heard that they also added a year to their contract, which would take them through year 11 of the show.  I would think (just on general principles) that Mayim and Melissa would get rather healthy raises in that last year.

Of course, last year, Johnny, Jim, and Kaley got reported raises to $1 million, with an increase in the backend to 1.25 points.  Kunal and Simon also got raises to 600-800k, increasing to $1 million by season 10 (that's right, the original five will all be getting a million and episode in season 10).  I haven't heard anything about back end for these two, although that should have been part of their negotiation.   It was also reported that all five have and option year (the studio's option) for year 11, which would make sense and bring them in line, at least the ending of their contracts, with Melissa and Mayim's length out to year 11.

The reason for the disparity basically goes back to what they were originally getting, along with where they were at on renegotiating their contracts.  As Melissa and Mayim joined the show later, started as recurring, they started at a lower salary, are mostly bound by their original contracts.  Remember, while they were eligible to renegotiate, they studio still had control, as they were still signed through season 10, even if they didn't renegotiate.

That's very interesting, thanks for the information! So, it seems that an 11th season is way more likely than a 12th, since the "money" part is already settled...Of course, it still depends on the ratings (I guess the studio will not cancel a show with so high ratings) and on the will of the actors to continue with the project. Let's see how it works out;  at the moment, I will be very happy of some more seasons, but let's enjoy (hopefully) the two more to come, and see what happens!

Agreed, let's just enjoy Seasons 9 and 10 for now.

Umm...changing the subject, I just read that the show was the FIRST approved by the new media rules in China. Even the other seven seasons keep under censorship, the season 8 will start at July 22 (next wednesday) at that country.
There's the link (in portuguese, if someone wanna try to read, perhaps there's an english link around the web and I couldn't find, my connection is poorer than usual today).

Just imagining the chinese dubbing. Omg, it would be so funny!

I agree, I'm looking forward to the new season. Besides learning what's going to happen to the couples, I'm really interested to know if Leonard and Sheldon's paper receives any more notoriety or if Barry's paper does. I'm hoping to see the guys at the comic book store again.

Looks like Howard's father could be coming to town in the tune of Judd Hirsch

I thought they'd do this eventually, but not so early in the season.

Wonder if they'll tell us what was in that letter from Howard's father.

He looks a good choice, I can see him as Howard's father...But I also think that if it happens in the first episodes it's too early! I mean, they have to settle too many things to allow other characters to appear!! Anyway, I hope that the episode does not run as the one about Howard's brother; I've always liked the episodes featuring family members (the ones with Leonard's mum being my favourite), because the plot basically was about them, there were other stuff going on, but the focus was on them. With Howard's brother, it was not the case and, franckly, I found rather unuseless his presence in that particular episode. I hope that whenever they choose to introduce Howard's father (again, I hope not too early in the season) they don't follow that pattern!!

Oh man the moaning about the hate for season 8 is making me stop reading certain threads, all I know is that I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to whatever tptb throw at us

Then don't read them. You make it sound as if people who said that S8 was crap (I was one of them) were not justified. To me the writing was pathetic and while in Seasons 1-6 I loved most of the episodes, the one s I loved in S8 were few and far between. Of course you know I'm a Lenny, but I didn't hate S8 because of how pathetically the writers treated Lenny, though that adds to it. I honestly didn't find it funny for the most part. So many things that made no sense. They are literally too many to mention, so many cringe inducing moments... I liked the Shamy progress though even if it felt forced at times. The ring and the separation , though (in the finale) was some of the crappiest writing I've ever seen.  IF you liked season 8, more power to you, but the opinion of people who didn't is just as valid as yours.

Me too. Comedically, it certainly wasn't as strong as earlier seasons but I actually quite liked Season 8. I much prefer it to Season 7, tbh.

Well, then I don't understand you. If you say that comedically it wasn't certainly as strong as earlier seasons, what are we talking about? TBBT is a comedy, right? Whatever our opinions are the first job TBBT has is supposed to be to make us laugh, right?

well I happen to think the majority of s8 was very funny, mixed with some sad moments, it all knitted together rather well

I'm not asking you to agree with me, just stating my own personal opinion

Yes, TBBT is a comedy, but I didn't find Season 8 as funny as earlier seasons. It was funnier than Season 7 (my least favourite season), but not as funny as 1-6. I loved the Shamy side of Season 8 but I didn't find myself laughing as much as I have in earlier seasons of the show, hence my comment that "comedically it wasn't as strong as earlier seasons". Hopefully that clarifies things?

It does. I misunderstood you. Thanks for the clarification. Sometimes it's difficult to get 100 % of what the other person means , just from text. I think mostly as you do, except for the fact that since I'm not a Shamy, I didn't enjoy those moments as much, and that's why I like S8 the least. I did like some of the Shamy moments, but for example, while I like the fort episode it didn't resonate as much with me as some Shamies said it did  with them.

Think we'll get any other spoilers before the first taping?  I know we got a little bit at Comic-con, but I'm hoping for a teeny bit more to tease us.

I doubt it...

At best we might get a "back to work"-type post on instagram...

Although Bill might give us a shot of the script again! :)

I found seasons 1-5 funny and really did not care for Seasons 6 and 7.  But Season 8 was delightful.  While it was not always "laugh out loud funny" it was entertaining and fun.   It also had some great poignant moments as well.   Overall I think it was a good season and in a few episodes did remind me of earlier seasons.   Seasons 6 and 7 were the worst seasons so far for me.  I hope Season 9 is as good if not even better than season 8 and does not go down the Season 6/7 rabbit hole.   Season 6 had a lot of mean tone by many of the characters and it was too much drama.  Season 7 was better than 6, but only marginally and it too seemed to not have much humor.

Season 8 was much better and moving toward a goal and you could see they were heading somewhere finally.  But also, it seemed like the characters were more kind to each other than in Seasons 6/7 and also more content.

As far as spoilers, I think the only thing we will get before the taping report is a rehash of what has been out there since Comic-Con.  Beyond that, I think it will remain tight lipped until taping night.   Mayim might slip something and we likely will see a script cover from Bill, but otherwise it likely will be rather quiet about content.

Besides the main cast, according to imdB, the additional folks that are going to be in the first episode include:

Kevin Sussman (Stuart)
Laura Spencer (Emily) and
LaVelle LaRue (Security)
