I've never called Penny a slut.

No you didn't.  You did say that a women who has been in an exclusive relationship (I know, I know.  He kissed someone.  She has been exclusive--I know, I know, as far as has been revealed to date---talk about politically correct---) since she was aged 25 o 26 has slept in 30+ men in an attempt to lash out at someone who said something derogatory about Sheldon and Amy.  No you didn't call her a slut.  You just said that a young woman slept with 30+ men.  Throwing that sort of statistic around really touches a nerve with me....

You know what? In the good old times, that we all regret, TPTB were very subtle with their titles...Who would ever had imagined all the love and the magic hidden in, I don't know, "The 43 Peculiarity" or "The Flaming Spittoon Acquisition"? with these last two episodes we are all going crazy to understand to which couple the title fits better...Oh, good old times, how much I miss you!!!

Yes! I've noticed that too, the titles have become so much more obvious recently. Kinda takes the fun out of guessing, I must admit.

Penny sleeps with 6 guys (thats all you can substantiate)shes a slut lol. But the last comment was unnecessary.

Wait, did I miss something? At what point did Mislav suggest that Penny was a slut? The most I've read is a statement to the effect that Penny may have slept with 30+ guys (based on Sheldon's calculations in Amy and Sheldon's first 'date', with poor, much-enduring Penny as chaperone). So what if she has? Good for her if she stayed safe, sane, consensual and pleasurable, as I presume she did.

(Mislav doesn't need me to chip in, of course, but I'm sincerely confused.)

Also, to all participants in the great 'Sheldon And Amy: Virgo Intacta or No?' controversy of 2015: is it really your idea of a large afternoon to dissect the ins (hur) and outs (hur) of what constitutes sex, and whether masturbation counts? No judgement here, just curious.

I was pointing to Chrismo's hypocricy. He was trying to say that Shamy's first time wouldn't be as special because of something that wasn't even sex and yet ignored the fact that based on that any relationship on the show (especially the second main one) would be futile or diminished in some way. It looks like by Chrismo's logic Penny would be considered a slut since he said that mere masturbation diminishes the purity of a future relationship.

I don't know why it would touch a nerve with you since that number was heavily implied on the show as well as number of Amy's orgasms and nobody has tried to prove that that diminishes anything. Nobody but Chrismo.

Mislav,

There are other ways to point out Chrismo's hypocrisy instead of in essence saying "oh yeah?  Well Penny slept with 30+ guys" (I know that is not what you said, but that is how I took it).  The fact that Amy had however number of orgasms induced clinically during an experiment is of no consequence and does not matter at all in connection with or in regards to any relationship she has.  It just does not matter and should not come into play.  The fact that I have a problem with the constant dredging up of Penny's past sexual history (and in my opinion, the gross exaggeration of the number of partners) is an issue that I have and it does touch a nerve every time Sheldon needs to bring to light the fact of what he feels is her promiscuity (with no push back from Leonard!!!).  That she has proven that she is loyal and true to the person with whom she is both in a relationship with and engaged to should put all those comments to rest.

Sorry for the rant, but when you have a daughter of a similar age of and many friends/acquaintances in this fandom who identify with the character it does touch a nerve.

While I agree with that second part,it's quite easy to show that Sheldon's assumptions, and thus the number he arrives at for the number of Penny's sexual partners, are quite wrong.

Not the first time Sheldon's made a math error.

Not that it matters, but I still think Sheldon's wasn't far off the correct number.

Here's what he said:

In the three years that I’ve known you, you were single for two. During that time, I saw 17 different suitors. If we work backwards, correcting for observation bias and postulate an initial dating age of 14*. Now, assuming the left side of a bell curve peaking around the present, that would bring the total up to 193 men. Plus or minus eight men.

*Penny corrected Sheldon's guest at starting dating to be 15.

Now, let's look at these statements.   I'll start with his bell curve statement.   A bell curve is a smoothly increasing Gaussian function, that peaks, then falls off the same way it increased.    However, we know that the four years prior to meeting the guys, she was with Kurt, then according to Sheldon, she had 17 different suitors over two years, then 2 (Zack and Leonard) over the next year and a half.  That is not a smooth curve, it is a step function.

Also note that he said "peaking around the present", which would have the highest point of the curve around that date with Amy.  However, from what we know, her dating partners were not at the highest level at that point.  Over the seven years this comes out to 1,1,1,1,8,9,2 which is a total of 23.  She would have had to date 170 guys from 14 to 17.  This is not a bell curve,( a bell curve distribution would have be closer to 1,3,5,6,5,3,1) that is the obvious error on Sheldon's part.

He also uses a factor of .18 to multiply the 172 (21 men dated before loss of virginity) men, based on his observation to get to the 31 men.   But he got that number from the two years she was single and dated 17 men.   That .18 times 17 comes out to be THREE men.  If you add  Kurt, Zack and Leonard, that means she had sex with six men in the previous seven years.   She would have had to have sex with 25 men, in the two years from 15 to 16.  Again, nothing close to a bell curve.

Meeka, don't let yourself get any further entangled in the pedant web.  I had to stop reading this thread for a while because I couldn't stand the round and round over something that doesn't make any difference to the overall point of the episode, not the post that set it off. :)

As for those lamenting the off-screen wedding, what makes anyone think that that's the end of the Lenny wedding story?  IMO, it's hardly different than if they had turned around and come back without marrying.  They would have found another time or way to get married.  Since no one in the gang was completely satisfied with how it went, and the audience didn't get to see it, I'm betting that there's going to be another ceremony coming up.

That way, the writers have more to work with and can have a reconciliation and a more romantic wedding.  I don't know if they'll do it right away, or drag out the issue to keep Leonard and Sheldon in 4A a little longer, but I think they'll eventually do that.

yeah...just like you were sure leonard and penny were not going to get married in vegas.....just like you were sure there will be whole gang present during the wedding.....lol

You guys, I seriously doubt the writers really keep track of this kind of thing...

They've seldom been keen on continuity and like to make one-off jokes. I mean just look at the Faisal joke. The writers have confirmed that they're not gonna explore that.

As a mathematician, I'm impressed...as a fan, am I wrong or 6 is also Leonard's number of sexual partners known in the show? The girl who defeated to North Corea, Leslie, Penny, Sheldon's physicist friend, Prya and the old lady, did I forget anybody? Never thought that Leonard had so much success with women...

Heheheheh, I'm not a mathematician, but I've done self-study on General Relativity and Quantum Field Theory, and anything north of Linear Algebra (including advanced statistics) is self taught, so I pick up a thing or two, but do admit to probably misunderstanding some things (in addition to knowing I don't understand some things).

Yeah, the French PhD student.  However, since he met Penny, it's been Leslie, Penny, Dr Slutbunny, Priya, and Mrs Latham, so five. Although, since Penny met Leonard we can discount Kurt, so she's been with five guys, so they are even there.

And Stephanie, the doctor that was played by Sara Rue

Edit: Does this mean Leonard might have gotten more action than Penny? LOL
