No, but that would have been the last episode, the one before this.  I'm sort of thinking this is not a redo, but an awards ceremony.

Isn't that Khloe Kardashian in the photo Penny is holding? Maybe it really is a game. Penny is trying to teach Sheldon the ways of the Kardashian Klan :D

Penny has a lot of Kardashian knowledge(but she doesn't like them)  and Sheldon is holding up an element(Helium I think ?) . Looks like a game to me.

I think the situation depends on what the plot is exactly. If Sheldon tells Amy that he'd rather go to the movie and Amy doesn't let him. The blame is more on Amy. But if Sheldon just hires Stuart to go on a date on date night without even telling Amy beforehand, like Stuart just shows up at the door and Amy's like "What are you doing here?" (which is more likely the case, because well, the writers find this kind of Sheldon funny)...I don't know what to say...

But we see Amy with Beverly beforehand where we see Stuart with the flowers (and she's not dressed up) so datenight wouldn't make sense to me 

Why would Amy need Sheldon to hang out with if she's with the girls? 

I can't shake this feeling that we're missing something...

I'm guessing it could be that Amy's hanging with the girls until it's time for date night. When she opens the door, it's Stuart and he tells her Sheldon paid him to go on a date with Amy.

I hope I'm wrong.

We are missing lots of pieces to the puzzle on this episode.   We have a lot of photos and it is hard to make heads or tails out of them because we don't even know the sequence of them and if they are in correct order, etc. and even if we did...it still is impossible to tell what is going on.   I think we can safely say right now without more information...it is all very confusing.

I agree that I really hope Stuart is taking Sheldon's place in line while Sheldon has date night w/ Amy.

Does anyone feel like tonight's finale will be a "re-do" of the Lenny wedding?

If that is the case, I would be furious if I were Amy.   How cheeky of Sheldon to do that if that is the case.   I am surprised she didn't break up with him again after such a maneuver.  Says to me that he didn't learn a thing from the breakup earlier this season if that is the case.

I also don't understand why suddenly Penny is struggling to connect with Beverly.  Beverly and Penny have always gotten along before now suddenly she is struggling?   Really odd.

Agree in that case.  I thought he was hiring Stuart to stand in line for him not spend the day with Amy for him.   So yes...agree with you on that and it tells me that Sheldon learned NOTHING from the breakup.   So this whole first half of the season was for nothing.

This is all so confusing. I will wait for the episode to air, but Sheldon hires Stuart to spend time with Amy? I don't get it . What is wrong with TBBT? Sheldon rather not spend time with Amy, Penny supports Sheldon more than Leonard, and they don't live together in their own place, by themselves. Are we in an alternate reality?

 

Amy should've just waited in line with Sheldon if she wants quality time.

When is she going to grow out of her modern patriarchal relationship fantasy stereotypes? This isn't what Amy was like when they first met, somewhere down the line the writers got lazy and made part of her personality a nag (because girls aren't allowed to be quirky all the time I guess?). It didn't get as extreme as Bernadette thanks to Mayim's acting ability, but it's obviously getting just as repetitive as all the other show's dynamics. The characters learn a lesson and then regress ad nauseum.

This is fascinating...a bunch of pictures appear and suddenly....Sheldon is  jerk and Amy is a doormat...it's the end of the world as we know it.  Because pictures and a press release tell the whole story?  Nope....but don't mind me, continue with the wild speculation....it is what we do best....lol.

Here we go. In this forum we speculate wildly from minuscule tidbits of information. It is what we do best. And there you go. Getting defensive when someone criticizes Sheldon. It is what you do best.

A healthy relationship does not require them to be around each other all the time. If Amy is so disastrously bored by Sheldon's hobbies, she can go off and do her own thing like an independent female.

The more freedom they give each other, the less miserable they'll turn out.

Of course I'd be surprised. Beverly would never pair Sheldon with someone who never excelled or earned degrees. Beverly holds Sheldon in some esteem.

Delsino helped us understand 9.23  The Line Substitution Solution (the penultimate) episode because they showed that at the taping tonight.   

Production Journal associated with this episode summary.

 

Starts out that Lenny and Sheldon are in the apartment and Sheldon and Penny are playing a flash card game so that Penny can learn more science and he can learn more about celebrities.   Leonard asks Penny to go with him to the airport to pick up Beverly.  Penny agrees to join him.  Leonard teases, while you are there you can pick her up and I can stay home. Penny agrees to go alone because she wants time to bond with Beverly.

While Penny is picking up Beverly, the boys head to their favorite haunt...Stuart's comic bookstore.  They discuss the Avengers screening and decide to go to it together.   Sheldon realizes he can't go because he was supposed to go shopping with Amy (no specifics given what they are shopping for).  The boys offer to hold him a space in line while he goes shopping with Amy.   Sheldon doesn't want them to hold his spot be that breaks line etiquette.  Howard mentions that it is common for people to jump lines and that you can hire someone to sit in line for you.  Stuart stuart what like "wow that job is worse than mine."  Raj says they make $20hr and do more than hold line spots they run errands too, now Stuart is listening and interested.  Next scene... Stuart gets in the car with Amy.   Amy says "you're not Sheldon.  Stuart says he knows, Sheldon has payed him to go shopping.

Penny gathers Beverly at the airport and Beverly begins asking Penny about she and Leonard's sex life which makes Penny uncomfortable.  Beverly senses it and asks if it is too inimate.  Penny says she and that she wants to bond but that starting with favorite books and then goes direct to her husband's sex organs?   Beverly then asks her about what books she has read recently to which Penny responds "The Pottery Barn Catalog."  LOL  Penny then suggests they start by getting drinks and dinner and invites the girls over to help make it less uncomfortable.

Here it turns into a Boys with boys and girls with girls episode....

The girls try to help Penny by bringing it back to about her and her success at her new job.  

The boys are in line and Stuart shows up and yells at Sheldon.  Sheldon is confused, he thought Stuart was okay with shopping with Amy.   Amy paid Stuart to "be her" and yell at Sheldon.  LOL!

Back at Penny's apartment, there is a knock, knock, knock at the door and it is Stuart holding flowers.   Stuart is now Sheldon and says "he's sorry."   Amy pays Bernadette to slam the door in Stuart's face.   

Stuart is now back at the theatre in line with the boys and tells Sheldon that his apology was not accepted.  Sheldon then decides he needs to apologize himself in person and hires Stuart to stand in line for him.

Sheldon then shows up at the apartment where the girls are and explains that a good apology has three features.  1) Recognizing that he is at fault, 2) to say he is sorry, and 3) to promise to not to repeat his mistake again.  Sheldon does all three.   Amy accepts his apology and Sheldon quickly leaves to catch his uber back to the theater.

Beverly is impressed with their relationship.  Amy then talks about the progress they have made.   Beverly loves the Shamy relationship and wants  to interview them together for study on high achieving relationships.  Bernie asks if she wants to interview she and Howard explaining that she is a microbiologist and he is an astronaut.   She continues to tell Beverly that Howard loves doing interviews and even gives himself interviews when he goes to the bathroom.  LOL!   The girls then ask Beverly about Penny and Leonard, and if she would want to interview them.  Beverly declines and that upsets Penny who flips out. 

Beverly gushes over Shamy and Howardette's relationship which unnerves Penny who yells at Beverly.  Penny, explains she wants to bond with her and have a friendship with her, and tells Beverly that all she has done is insult her.  Beverly disagrees and says she has not insulted her, to which Penny replies back "Do you even know what an insult is?"  Beverly says "Yes I know what an insult is, kind of like how you insulted me by not inviting me to my own son's wedding."   Penny realizes what Beverly is upset about and then sits down and says "Oh, would you have even come?"  She then finds out that she could have watched online if they had told her and gets even more upset.  Penny then offers for them to do a redo while Beverly is still in town.

The tag scene was Howardette  in the bathroom where he is giving himself an interview.

Now on to 9.24 The Convergence Convergence (Finale) from Delsino (a lot of playback scenes and quick short scenes):

Summary:  Leonard and Penny have a redo wedding that was off-camera, but then followed by a reception at a restaurant.  At the restaurant Mary and Leonard's father begin to flirt with each other, which annoys Beverly to no end, and Mary and Leonard's father up going to a hotel room together.   In the meantime the Government learns of Howards inventions and begins to track him down.   Howard, Bernie and Raj never make it to the reception because Howard gets pulled over. The tag is Leonard and Sheldon trying to figure out what their parents are doing. Penny is laughing at their ignorance. But then they figure it out and freak out and it ends.

Opens with Lenny in Leonard's bedroom.   Penny is sitting on the bed and Leonard joins her and asks how it was picking up Beverly at the airport.    Penny is very flirty with Leonard and says it went well and is excited that she even got a hug from Beverly.   Penny is flirting with him to get him to agree to a wedding redo while Beverly is in town.  He is like "What?, it was only one hug.  Why are you promising this?"   But Penny is excited about a redo and suggests that this time they will be able to invite family and friends.  Penny mentions that her brother is out of prison and it would be a good time for family to be there. Leonard agrees.

Next scene, Penny tells the girls about the redo and explains that it won't be legal or anything, but just for show.  Amy begins to hint at being maid of honor.   LOL!   Penny then asks Bernie to officiate at the wedding.   Sheldon comes in and ays he has invited Mary who says she is coming.  Penny questions him asking why he invited his mother to she and Leonard's wedding.   Sheldon reveals he also asked Stephen Hawking and Erno Rubik (the Rubik's cube guy).  

In the next scene, Beverly yells at Leonard for inviting his father, Alfred.   

Shamy head out to go pick up Mary at the airport.   Mary is not at all excited to see Beverly again.   She pulls out her cross necklace and puts it on.   Sheldon says she is a atheist not a vampire, Mary wants to get garlic at the store anyway!

Raj and Howard are at the Engineering lab.   Howard completes the project and discovers it works!  They are very excited with their success until about a second later when Howard gets a letter from the Air force about the project.  The boys freak out and Howard feels he is being watched because the email came at him so quickly.

Leonard has Alfred and is taking him upstairs.   Alfred asks about the elevator and when it will be fixed, to which Leonard lies and says "any dy now."   Alfred teases Leonard saying that if he dies before they get up the stairs, at least he won't have to see Beverly.  LOL!

When they get to the apartment they do introductions and Alfred says hi to Bev by calling her an old shrew.   She says "Hi, you wrinkled bastard."

Back at the lab the boys are really freaking out.   There are two scenes with Howard wondering if he should open the email and if he is being watched.   Howard is worried that if they don't open it, they will be killed.  LOL!  

At the apartment tensions rise when Beverly and Alfred exchange barbs and get snarky with each other.   Leonard and Penny yell at them and tell them that they are going to dinner for them and that they are the reason that they are doing the dinner was for them.   They tell Beverly and Alfred that they need to behave.

At Howardette's house, the boys are still freaking out and Bernadette yells at them and reminds them that they have to go to Lenny's dinner.  They head out to dinner (Raj, Howard and Bernadette) and are on their way driving there when they begin to notice a  car is following them close.  Is it a government car? No, it is Beverly with Penny and Leonard!  Leonard sees it is Howard and Bernie's car and speeds up to catch up to them.  LOL!    Howard, Raj and Bernie begin to freak out because the car is not tailgating them.  So they do a quick turn to "throw of the government car."    Leonard thinks Howard knows a way to avoid some traffic and get there quicker so follows.  Raj then screams that they are still being followed, the car turned and followed them.   Penny then suggests to Leonard to flash his lights to get their attention.   But the flashing lights only make Howard, Bernie and Raj even more freaked out.   Bernie then tells Howard to floor as she is not going to raise the baby alone.  She wants them to loose the car following them.   LOL!  

Mary and Alfred are in the backseat of Amy's car (with Sheldon in front with her).   They are getting along great.   Alfred tells Mary that he is an agnostic but often prayed that Beverly be turned into a pillar of salt.  LOL!  Mary tells Alfred that God turned Beverly into a block of ice.   LOL!   Sheldon is oblivious to any flirting going on between Mary and Alfred, but Amy notices and suggest to Sheldon to just keep playing games on his phone.  

Penny calls Bernadette after they get to the restaurant and wonders where they are at and why they have not arrived at the restaurant.   Bernie tells her that they have been pulled over.   Bernie tells them to eat without them as Howard is being given a sobriety test.  

At the restaurant, Mary and Alfred are arguing with Beverly.  Alfred decides to leave the restaurant, calling it an early night.  Mary also says she is going to call it an early night.   They find out they are staying at the same hotel and decide to share a cab.   Sheldon says they both had to leave early because they filled up on bread.  LOL!  Clueless!

Sheldon tries calling his mother and Leonard tries texting Alfred but neither respond.  Penny laughs saying they turned their phones off.   Sheldon and Leonard are quite disturbed at what is being suggested.

Also to add/follow up on the summary, I don't know if there was an "off camera redo wedding" or just dinner celebrating the wedding, they talked about a ceremony in the beginning but if you follow the timeline in the rest of the episode, it seems like they went right to the dinner reservations from the apartment. 

Also the government/Air Force is just inquiring about the project, and raj thinks it's to give them money, but Howard is paranoid they want to take over the project and they will "get him" if he doesn't allow them

More clarifications....

The dinner was not a welcome for the parents it was definitely for Penny and Leonard. (In other words it was not a "welcome parents" dinner, but was a celebration for Leonard and Penny.)  They did toasts and all. I don't remember much, just Penny saying she was glad she finally said yes after all of Leonard's proposals and then Bevs toast was what made Alfred get mad and leave early

Howard was basing his paranoia off of movies he watched like ET and Jurrasic World. Bernie said you know they are not documentaries but Howard said that's all he knows. Raj starts laughing and Howard says do you think it's funny, raj replies no but Jurrassic World was so terrible it was funny. 

Raj later looks up the department that sent the email which was the Dept of Acquisitions and said they probably just want to give you money and then Howard thinks maybe it's another country pretending to be the USA.

I got the sense that it was "let's do a redo while you are here in town" but then it wasn't shown, just implied. Unless Bev turned down the offer for a redo or it was in the episode that filmed tonight??

Does it feel a little like a "filler" finale to anyone? Just me?

Aside from Mary and Old Man Hofstader, there isn't much main character development. I thought maybe Raj was going to run to India based on a comment on Insta from Aayer - but that must have referred to an inside joke or something.
