[Spoilers] Discussion Topic: Season 9

I'm happy with the spoilers from episodes 23 & 24. They sounds really funny episodes. I really don't mind that nothing big happens like Sheldon proposing or leaving arrangements because I really have missed the comedy. I was smiling when I was reading the car scene :icon_razz: and I'm hopping to laugh when I finally watch it.

Thank you so much for the tapping reports.

The last two episodes sound like they could be very funny, and I am alright with ending the season on a funny note.  I think you could also say that Leonard's father and Mary could be sort of a cliffhanger for season 10.  Also depending how this last episode is presented, we still might a redo in 10.

The possibility of Leonard and Sheldon being brothers, in the future, I think is not something to take lightly right now, because all it would take is a letter or phone call from their parents saying they got married in Las Vegas to set things off.

And that would affect Leonard and Sheldon how exactly? Wow, they're stepbrothers on paper, how exciting.

Think about Leonard and Sheldon would be tied to the hip forever and now Sheldon is Penny's bother-in-law.  Not only would Sheldon be ecstatic now to keep Leonard forever, after Leonard got over the shock, I think he would warm up to Mary being his step mom, think of all the hugs he would get.  Actually for the show, there are more positives then negatives, and it would probably allow the writers to delay living arrangements again, plus Leonard and Penny would not be able to dismiss a relative as quickly as a nutty friend.

All of them?  The bachelor party episode, the spockumentary, and shamys first night; rank among the best episodes IMO.

Maybe. But 8 and 9 have been the worst IMO overall. Probably not a good trend. I will say since they kicked living arrangements, an engagement, And Raj down the road season 10 does have the possibility of being a lot better season.

I don't think it will happen but it could provide some interesting comedic story-lines for sure.

Whatever happens whether they live together for a while longer or Sheldon/Lenny initiate a change to the living arrangements soon next season they just aren't going to sever some of the links with each other. I think some secretly hope that (I'm not saying you think or have said that SRAM) but at the end of the day they are always going to be close.

I'm sorry, but since when does having a stepbrother mean that you're "tied to the hip forever"? That doesn't make any sense at all. Everything would stay exactly the same, except that they would be stepbrothers, which, again, means nothing.

I think if these last 2 eps prove one thing, it's that TPTB honestly don't give half as much thought to their writing as we do on here. So many people thought that Penny's behavior was a set up for marriage trouble and yet, here she is, happier than ever and desperate to celebrate her marriage all over again. That's why I've developed a wait-and-see mentality when it comes to this show. Otherwise I'd pull my eyes out. Not that I ever thought that Penny didn't love her husband (no disrespect to anyone that did).

Overall, I thought this season was pretty weak. It was very unbalanced and I hope that things pick up in S10.

I don't think their marriage was in trouble really as well and I certainly didn't agree with this notion that she was going to dump Leonard for Sheldon, I mean really...

They are going to have more rows and more arguments but that's just life. The only major problem going on right now is Penny centric and that is her career and being forced to stay in a job she doesn't want to be in because she has a debt to pay off. It's perfectly possible that it could rear it's head again and cause issues in their relationship but i am confident they will work it out.

I'm just trying to accept the change in the show and deal with it.  I see the writers trying to keep the Sheldon, Penny and Leonard bond, because Sheldon is now primary in the show, he plays the best off of Leonard and Penny, so the writers don't want to lose that.  So I just thought of this as another way for them to delay moving Leonard and Penny out of 4A.

Well, we could also be ridiculously optimistic here and maybe them becoming step-brothers would be a way to strengthen their bond but also make it easier to have them move out cause instead of drifting apart like in Sheldon's 9x04 fears they would have plenty of whacky family meetings to look forward to!! Or something like that... Cue obligatory snide remark from Leonard like "If I wanted to have family dinners like that I'd visit my crazy uncle Bob* more often!"

(*before anyone asks about "when did we find out about Bob??" I'm just making that up lol)

I'm just glad I don't have to spend another summer worrying about whether or not they'll be ok.

Sure I would of liked to  see some of the things mentioned addressed, but I'm deciding to look at it as something to look forward to!

All I asked for was a drama-free, funny ending to the season that doesn't leave me a crying heap on the floor (like the last one)

And that's what I got :icon_cheesygrin:

I don't think the season was weak persay.  I will say it was off balance in the respect of the first half being very heavy (although more deeper plots then they've ever done before) and the 2nd half being more lighthearted comedy.  Still think the season had a lot of heart and really stuck with some common themes & arcs like never before (I don't remember us ever having a season where some episodes where "to be continued" style to the next).  And a lot of info/events occurred this season.

Now for the "funny" episodes, this wasn't the funniest season, I agree on that.  To me E23, karoke and bachelor party are the funniest episodes.  But there were more drama/angst episodes than funny (and not just for Shamy, even for the other couples).

Its certainly not my favorite season even with some epic moments, but its not the worst to me.  And I find BBT goes in roller coasters.  I found S5 the best personally, then followed by S8, where I found S2 and S6 not so great.  This is a middle season to me.

and no, the writers will NEVER overthink things like we do, and nor should they.  We tend to deeply read into things, and that's part of being part of a fandom (and we are a small portion of the millions of viewer here)

Raj and Howard are at the Engineering lab.   Howard completes the project and discovers it works!  They are very excited with their success until about a second later when Howard gets a letter from the Air force about the project.  The boys freak out and Howard feels he is being watched because the email came at him so quickly.

Also the government/Air Force is just inquiring about the project, and raj thinks it's to give them money, but Howard is paranoid they want to take over the project and they will "get him" if he doesn't allow them

Good Grief!  As a government employee Howard should know that is not how the Air Force works.  They would never call you up to give you money, and they would never follow you in a car.  If you would like to read up on all of the steps involved, I have added a link.  As you can see, you would never get money directly.  Others would have a chance to bid as well.  These are our tax dollars, after all.  Our government has rules to protect them.

But, since this is a sit-com, we will give them some artistic license.

I lurked a little bit last night in chat and after reading tidbits of two tapings I went to bed.  When I woke, to quote Ebenezer Scrooge after a totally different morning after, I could say that  "I am as light as a feather, I am as happy as an angel, I am as merry as a schoolboy."  I hope that what we found out will finally put to rest some of the Leonard/Penny fear and the Penny bashing that has been occurring of late.  Things to take away were Penny's standing up to Beverly and her defense of the relationship she has with our good experimental physicist.  Also of beautiful note was her wearing the heart locket in two consecutive episodes (also that it was there in episode 200 was noteworthy!).  Since it did not appear (to my recollection) at all in Season 8, I am wondering if it was a costume choice/request of Ms. Cuoco, that most important Lenny shipper of all?  All of these things point to her continued unquestionable (to me anyway) love of her new husband.

I think there is a good chance for a re-do in Episode 10.01.  Johnny G. spoke of Judd Hirsch appearing in a season ending "cliffhanger".  We are left hanging as to what happened with the elder Dr. Hofstadter and the widow Mrs. Cooper.  Also, we know that Bernadette was to officiate at some sort of "re-do" ceremony and that there was talk about Penny's brother being available and a possible (hopeful) arrival of him and his parents (hello Wyatt and Mrs!).

Looking forward to Leonard's interaction with his father.  Does he address him as "dad" or "father" (he does call Bev "mother").

Thanks to all who provided all important information both here and in chat last night.  A hiatus without stress!!!

My interpretation of the taping report was the redo was off camera but it was done and everyone can move on. They are not going to bore the average viewer with a big wedding do over. I'm looking forward to these episodes.

It seems that Mary and Beverly will have more reason than ever to dislike each other. I'm kind of hoping we see more of Judd Hirsch next season. After 9.24 airs I will have seen Bob N and Judd H in the same season. I love it! Whats next?

Update - I spoke to an engineer who works on government projects, and he gave a possible reason for government agents to be following Howard.  And, this is something that the science advisers may not know.  Precision Guidance technology is considered to be export controlled by our government.  The technology itself is controlled, and it doesn't depend on who develops it or who is paying for it.  If the government thinks there might be a violation of export controls, they would do an investigation, and therefore might be following the car.

In this case, we definitely have a violation of export controls.  The definition of "export" includes showing the device to a foreign national.  Therefore, the presence of Raj in the lab is enough to constitute export of protected technology, and our boys are in trouble.  Just sayin'....
