You´re totally right in this @wowbagger.

I also think the writers are stuck how they write Lenny, and when they tries to write a Lenny story it´s mostly crap and/or unrealistic.

I've been thinking about @wowbagger's post (and it was a good one) and have come to believe that they may very well be waiting to tell the "final" story of Penny & Leonard.  For years and years, we thought that the end or "end game" was: married with smart and beautiful babies.  The baby(ies) part may still be in the near/end of series future, but since having them marry well before that end, I think there will be some important things coming our way.

I'm thinking that it will have to do with whatever career choice(s) are in the offing for Mrs. Hofstadter.  There may be a conflict with what is going on with both L & S's paper/experiment and with H, L & S's work.  Or, I could be totally off base.  I'm thinking that there will be a considerable curve ahead on the way to the happily ever after that is in store for my favorites.....Thoughts???

I do think that there are stories left to be told about Lenny not just about babies. But the writers seems to have difficulties getting it done.

Call me paranoid, but why do I have this feeling that Penny's career might involve Sheldon somehow, considering they want to give her a job she's interested in and didn't she once claim that her passion in life are Leonard and Sheldon? I doubt the writers are that kind to have Lenny work together, so maybe Penny's new job is Sheldon's assistant lol.

I don't think the writers could pull off a shift in career for Penny involving Science, it just sounds totally implausible to me anyway. But I would put my money on it being something nobody expects and causes some surprise.

But she already knew Pi and helium, with the help of Sheldon, isn't that qualified enough to have a job in science? :icon_cheesygrin:

She actually said Leonard and her friends.  Leonard was the one specifically singled out.

if she knows for sure they aren't touching at all after 9.11 she wouldn't have made the joke, it would have been cruel. About her reasons for making the joke, they not necessarily reflect Sheldon's ideas on the subject.

When it comes to making jokes it can have as much to do with the rhythm of the scene as anything. The writers will even drop continuity to get a joke in the right place and it can certainly be OOC.

She can definitely do that. :icon_cheesygrin:

She could get the job because the show's team is searching for a scientific consultant and somehow end up with Leonard. He's taking her to a taping and the writers struggle to make the concepts easily understandable and Penny's in the background and asking all the right questions which gets the producers attention and they want her on the show some sort of cute assistant type helping the kids to understand.

It would make use of her working experience in that she'd be acting, but also "selling" science to kids (though naturally without the annoying icky flirting factor that she doesn't like about her current job) and she can be super excited about all that science stuff, but it's on a level that isn't unrealistic for her cause by now she can grasp enough of that if she puts her mind to it (just like when she's studying for her sales pitches).

There you go, writers - a cute Lenny plot! If anyone wants to snatch that away for a fanfic, feel free to do so!

Just look at the marriages of all the TBBT parents. This series does not subscribe to "happy ever after". In this series the relationships are shipwrecked and our band are just picking up the the shattered shards and making do.

Leonard has Charlie Brown syndrome:

This may also explain why Lenny does not move out. Penny has it too. They are afraid to be happy because it only means something real bad is about to happen. If Lenny don't have it then it is just the writers who do.

Ha!  I was thinking along similar lines:  Penny and Leonard drive Sheldon to a casting call for a Professor Proton re-boot.  He is his obnoxious self. They see Penny in the background and say "Hey, can you slip on these eye-glasses and say something scientific?" She takes the eyeglasses and gives a knowing look at Leonard and she says "just as long as it isn't 'molecules'!"

I read somewhere on the forum, basically someone said that Shamy shippers are girls in majority(atleast more in number than guys) and that more men ship Lenny than girls . I get a similar feeling. Is this true ? If so, anyone know what could be the reason ? I'm just curious. I may be totally wrong.

I already had her doing that in a fanfiction I wrote.  She got the part because she could actually pronounce the scientific terms at the casting and knew what a lot of them were because the guys always talked about them.

Leonard could help her rehearse her lines and explain things to her.

Penny could wear a lab coat and glasses in the part, driving Leonard insane with lust for his wife.

She could have the guys as guests on the show.

Everyone can bitch that she makes more money acting like knows science then the gang does actually practicing it (sound familiar).  Finally the show can be a hit, so a university gives her an honorary PHd, so now everyone has one exept of course Howard.

LOL there you go - nothing new under the sun! Of course someone already thought of that, haha.

Now, if we can somehow get the writers to do that Inception-style by making them think it's their brilliant idea then maybe we're good to go for S10!? ;D

Generally, in a broad sense, that is the case.  There are exceptions.  There have been several reasons put forward, I would say there are as many reasons for who someone likes as there are people.

I can't give you a personal reason for who likes Shamy, it's all been things friends or other people have said.    Some have said they like Jim's physical appearance.  Some say Amy appeals to them.  A lesser number see themselves (not necessarily gender, but in a Aspergers way or socially outcast way).  I know a couple of woman who like Shamy as they have male children who are on the spectrum.   I know a couple of women who identify with Amy.

On the other side, some see Penny as an unattainable goal in their own lives.  Some see Leonard or Penny in themselves (The early years of my wife and I's relationship was eerily similar to Leonard and Penny.  Including break-ups, staying friends, having the same friends, not getting over either of us, similar previous dating patterns, and similar personalities.  Possibly some of my disgruntlement with the couple is how things have changed from our (my wife and I) story.  There are a few who are physically attracted to Johnny, not Jim.  A couple of the woman that I know who like Lenny started with them in the early years and were cheering them on.  By the time Shamy came along, neither Sheldon or Amy caught their fancy and they stayed with Lenny.   There are a couple of women here who are Lennys, and my give you more insight into why.

Note, this list is not comprehensive, nor is it intended to give you "the real reason", as I've mentioned, there may be many different reasons why someone likes a particular ship. Just some things other people have mentioned in conversation.

Yeah, the idea is easy, getting writers on board is the hard part.

Thanks. Ofcourse everyone has their reasons for prefering a particular ship, but I was more interested why there is a bit of gender divide. Why is it that larger majority of Shamy shippers are women/girls. You did raise some interesting points, which I suspected as well.

No, Sheldon is not obliged to do anything, but it is very sad that a character demonstrates having sexual urges and that the other one shows no interest at all. Also you know full well that I did not say what you're proposing I said. Furthermore it is not a matter that if he isn't interested then, then he has no interest at all in such things, it is the fact that he has shown NO interest at all (in Amy sexually) for an extended period of time. Btw, that'd be fine too, if Amy felt exactly the same, but she clearly doesn't.

I totally get where you're coming from and somewhat agree with you. The part where I start disagreeing is when you start to mention all the things that might (or might not) have gone on off-screen. No, I mean absolutely not. We are NOT supposed to fill in the blanks. What goes on off screen is NOT canon. They might have kissed since December or they might not (I know it's likely they did). But assuming certain things happened off screen is a slippery slope. If they want to communicate something TPTB don't have to show it but can refer to it , even if it is in passing, or even if it is very briefly, but at the very least they have to suggest it, don't they?

It pains me for Amy's sake how indifferent he has been to her after the coitus episode. Why is it that in Sheldon's case we are supposed to start imagining a lot of things that might or might not have happened off screen, but in Amy's case we can actually see her desires in full display of the viewing audience? (Making it canon, btw)

 Agree with everything.

I think there is a limit of what we should expect to be happening off screen. For example, their kisses. Although we've only seen two on-screen Shamy date night kisses, but we know they kiss on every date night (at least before the break up). Because the writers told us kissing is in their RA. That's a reasonable speculation.

But while we've shown at least twice since 9x11 that Amy suggests to have sex again but Sheldon couldn't take the hint, it's illogical to speculate that they have sex all along off-screen. Also the writers made it clear their original "deal" was once a year. If their intention was for people to believe Shamy have sex more frequently than that, they wouldn't have had added that line in the first place.

As for other forms of physical intimacy, since we don't know the status of RA, I can't say anything about kissing. But even if they still kiss once a month under the terms of RA, there's no progress in terms of physical intimacy after coitus. Coitus didn't bring them closer whatsoever.

And yes, if the writers want, they can totally refer to things like that using one sentence. But they didn't, which made their attitude towards Sheldon's sexuality pretty obvious, which is also why I don't believe they'll address the coitus issue in season 10 either. They had plenty of chances in season 9 and they chose not to, so what makes season 10 so different?

Also there's no way they'll let Shamy have a conversation about their sex life. Because it's like opening the Pandora's Box. If they do that, they'll have to explain to us exactly things like: what Sheldon's deal is; if he has desires, why he waited for so long; if he doesn't, why did he sleep with Amy; is Amy Ok with whatever Sheldon's sexuality is; if she is, why all the complaining about their lack of physical intimacy; if she's not, why didn't she just break up with him. IMO the writers will keep everything ambiguous, so that they don't have to answer these questions.

Because Jim Parsons is hot according to a lot of female viewers?

I think to host a science show, she has to understand what she's saying though? Penny seems to find science tedious. She can remember the scientific terms but she doesn't understand the meanings behind them.

Although I love the idea of Leonard helping her get a job. One more time of "we are dreamers" or something like that I'm seriously gonna puke.

I don't think it's Just that Jim Parson's is "hot". I think many women related more to Amy than Penny and I probably should just leave it at that.
