I was talking about gifts:)

I dont recall Amy mentioning that was his gift, just looked like something sweet she did for him. Adam West definitely was...but as for the hug being a gift, I guess one could interpret it as such--but all Penny told Sheldon before giving him the hug was "I hope you didnt think you wpuld get through the night without a hug" or something to that effect.

Anyhow, I didnt really see the hug as the highlight of the evening for myself, its fine of course if others saw it that way. I rather liked Amy's toast (and Wheaton's too) as well as the Adam West banter in the car ride :)

The highlight part, I totally understand.

I assume that was Amy's gift because Leonard, Howard and Raj all talked about getting Sheldon gifts. So I think it's safe to say Amy gave him a gift too and it's most likely to be Stephen Hawking's call. As for the hug, either that was a gift or Penny didn't prepare a gift. Both IC for her and both don't contradict my original point.

Since it seems the thread has established that women mostly ship Shamy vs. men mostly ship Lenny, I wont chime in with my own Shamy shipping explanation lol. Don't wanna risk sounding like a grade A wus!

No, that will not be the case, most certainly ! If anything, you may have a different and unique take on Shamy. I was just more interested in why the majority is women. And as many have pointed out, it could be to due to finding  Jim Parsons attractive or relating more to a girl like Amy.

My question was simply was it because Penny thought they were going to make out hard because of the desire Sheldon for Amy, or because, Penny thought, Sheldon was excited due to his drawing up contracts.

I think it is likely that Sheldon is excited due to drawing up the contracts, and that Penny thinks that Amy is going to benefit.

I agree. I think she meant drawing up contracts turns him on, and Amy was going to benefit from his arousal.

Not forgetting that, Leonard once found a stash of contracts under Sheldon's bed.

I don't think the writers could pull off a shift in career for Penny involving Science, it just sounds totally implausible to me anyway.

Agreed.

Penny couldn't even grasp the gravity equation, in The Gorilla Experiment.

@camelliayao Can you explain the "we are dreamers" part?

I don't know if it's related but, from The Occupation Recalibration:-

Sheldon: The best way to achieve a goal is to devote 100% of your time and energy to it. When I decided I was going to be a physicist, I didn’t take some other job in case it didn’t work out. Which wasn’t easy because there was a lot of pressure from Ms. Pearson for me to be chalk monitor that year.

Penny: Thank you. I needed to hear that. Why can’t Leonard understand it?

Sheldon: Because he’s not like us, Penny. We’re dreamers.

So maybe Penny could have a show where an actor plays a scientist, but actually is clueless what he/she is actually saying....hmmm.....where have I heard that before?

Thank you. This is the one I was talking about.

I think this conversation is not fair to Leonard. Leonard understands that. He's just more realistic, less delusional. He think about consequences before taking actions. He's the one who has to bail others out because people around him don't think about consequences. The fact that Sheldon compares his childhood experience (the chalk monitor vs focusing on physics) to Penny's real life, adult career problem shows that he's the one who doesn't understand the situation.

Penny heard what she wanted to hear. But eventually she never got what she wanted. Because she's not like Sheldon. And technically Sheldon's not a dreamer either IMO. All he wanted to do was science and he's extremely good at it. So to me he's a realist.

Exactly. Rember (S7/Ep17):

Penny: I'm sorry, is the fact that my life's falling apart interfering with your board game? Sheldon: It is.

Looks like Jim(Sheldon) and Kaley (Penny) won the favorite lead actor and actress in comedy,  respectively, in this popular TV poll for 2016. Mayim(Amy) has won the favorite supporting actress and the show has also won.

Shamy has won the favorite couple/ship in a comedy. Just wanted to share.

Sure. Actually I think I've mentioned it before. Let me just post my old post.

I hope if Penny goes into science, it's because of Leonard not Sheldon. The last time Penny went to Sheldon for career advice, he told her to chase her dreams, which is quite lol to me because unlike Sheldon, Penny doesn't have what it takes to realize her dream.

The advice led to her losing her waitress job, her car and later failing in acting. If it wasn't for Bernie, she'd still be unemployed now. But it doesn't matter. Because eveyone has the impression it was Sheldon who helped Penny with her career while actually it was Leonard who bought her a car, gave her practical advice and supported her for years.

Then in season 8 they pratically made Penny dumb just so she could go to Sheldon again for career advice. Everyone in their right mind would choose to at least wait for the result of the audition then quit the current job. But no, Penny doesn't know. She has to wait for Sheldon to tell her.

It's like I'm Ok with them bonding, but at least make it less stupid.

It was illogical to me. How about this, from now on, everything I said has a "This is just my opinion" attached automatically?

^^^^

Well said on all. You don't have to attach my opinion to all your posts when it completely obvious you are stating it is, if ppls don't get its yours then their problem not yours. When you are quoting what obviously happened on the show that different because that is the debate.

That to me showed me Sheldon and Penny are so very different. Because Sheldon likes to think he is a dreamer, he is not really. He is a man of science. And Penny wanting to hear what she wanted from Sheldon, diddn't help her in the long run. It was Leonard's realistic understanding of Penny's situation. And pratically helping her, like buying her a car. That really helped her in the long run. The example of Sheldon inferring his game night is more important then Penny's life, is more of an apt example, then the dreamers scene. IT shows after all these years of Sheldon and Penny being compatible, or like each other. More and more as the show goes on, it is prooving they couldent be anymore different.

(not sure how the quote got there, sorry about that)

I always thought Penny should have gotten a recurring role on a genre show, something like Smallville, Charmed, Stargate or Supernatural. It would have been a lot of fun to see her handling nerd culture from a different angle, suddenly being an integral part of it, and since these shows often have the budget of three snickers and some change, having a few scenes from the set/the episode-in-episode a season couldn't have driven production costs up very high for TBBT. Plus, we could have had plots about the guys meeting her potentially nerd-famous co-stars (guest star potential) and navigating a comic-con with her or something, as well as Leonard dealing with his girlfriend suddenly being a nerd sex symbol and so on.

That is what should of happened after Season 6. I mean should see more of Penny going to acting auditions. But alas its Season Ten soon, oppurtunity missed. No wonder alot of people say Penny's character makes no sense anymore.

I have seen on location shooting for both Smallville and Stargate SG1 (when they were in production) and it seemed to me the production must have been expensive with big crews looking after a lot of stuff..

That's possible, I just picked a few shows to illustrate the general direction I meant. However, a lot of genre shows, especially the smaller ones, seem to be working on a shoestring budget just because they are expected to appeal to niche audiences anyway. I think it also has a lot to do with writing in your means (Supernatural manages to look amazingly cheap sometimes considering that they are a pretty well-produced show, but they do occasionally forget what the limits of their CGI team are).

I just meant to prevent that argument that one of the showrunners brought that the acting career was not feasible because they'd have to show Penny on set - not quite sure if costs or logistics were the problem, but they said something like that. I really think that's a bit of a cop-out; aping the high production values and effects budget of Charmed (sarcasm alert), which, hey, Kaley was actually on, was never going to put a hole in anyone's wallet, and it would have been possible to write around doing on-set scenes in the studio.

I don't think the decision of making Penny quit her acting career had anything to do with budget; they might have said that, but I don't think it's true at all. There were thousands of workarounds: she could have been an actress, even working in major productions, and none of it needed to be shown on screen. A group of people acclaiming her at a premiere (with their usual set used as a movie theater),  a 30 seconds pre-taped scene from time to time, an article about her on a newspaper, little hints in the dialogues, that would have been enough; even less than that, if she wasn't going to be that famous. I mean, the guys are supposed to work with very expensive equipments every day,  it's not like we see them on screen all the time. I think the decision was an artistic choice, the writers have many times underlined she was not a good actress, so maybe at some point they became interested in seeing how she could manage the disappointment of her crushed dreams and how she could engage in a new and more lucrative job. Clearly it didn't went that well, otherwise they wouldn't have been thinking about a new change in her career. I hope they find something she likes this time, and above all something it's plausible that she likes. I mean, even in S. 8, when she was "happy" of being a rep, that was not very believable, given how the character was up to that moment...

Yeah I think the main comedy component has always been Lenny and Sheldon. So for that reason alone, I think Leonard well be living at 4B till the end unfortunately. I guess in other sitcoms, possible this one? Haha no. In Friends Rachel and Monica lived together what six seasons. But I guess that was not the entire premise, as much as Leonard and Sheldon is. They are the biggest ship on this show. But I would like to see a change in career for Penny, like a major storyline for her. I like the idea of her getting a sub genre nerdy type show, and getting come cult success out of it. See them go to comic con with her. And maybe Leonard dealing with his wife now being a cult sex symbol haha. But in the long term I do like the idea of PEnny becoming a social worker. I mean she is such a people person.

Gotta disagree with the part in bold. She did get a speaking part on an episode of NCIS( I think), even if it was taken out in editing. And the whole gang praised her performance in A Streetcar Named Desire.

Sheldon: She’s remarkable.

Leonard: She really is.

Amy: Our Penny’s a star.

At that time I thought that were the turning point in her acting career. She could have become a respectable stage actress, what could have been a solid basis for other things regarding her acting ambitions. Too bad, TPTB didn't follow that path.

TBBT ain't known for story progression or continuity :cheese:. They should of followed through on that. Instead they place Penny in these menial jobs. For the sake of autonomy. Without actually finding her true passion. Which I thought potentially could have been Theatre.
