then why are they still here?

Because it is happening now? Or because people are willing to give things another chance to see if it gets better? That doesn't mean it doesn't bore and wear people's patience out with time. There's no universally objective concept of "interesting" or "boring". Different people find different stuff interesting or boring. To some, this kind of drama is exciting and interesting. To others it is cheap and trite and boring. To say that X happens because otherwise it will be boring is a guess as good as any.

Exactly!   If part of the journey is making you ill to watch, then it doesn't matter about the end-game.  Also visuals are a lot harder to get out of your mind once they are put there.   So watching Shenny having a hot kiss even if we know it isn't canon and it is all Leonard's dream and not something dreamed by Sheldon or Penny does not matter.  What matters is the image is in your head and it takes away from the sweet image that was Shamy that was in my head earlier. Sorry...but that is sick and the writers did not need to go there.  It was totally unnecessary other than they wanted to get their jollies in watching Jim and Kaley kiss.   Pure and simple. There was no reason to include that and open with that.   The rest of the episode is probably fine...but I don't want to tune in and see Shenny kiss under any circumstance.

I imagine it will be used in promotion.

Something that some seem to struggle to comprehend is that some of us could not care less if everything works out in the end. Is that too hard to understand that one might want to enjoy the present?! Some of us just aren't willing to sit through something we don't enjoy only to get a prize at the end.

I agree. You watch the show now, not after it wraps. It's a product that can be consumed as it is produced. But they have a short attention span in Burbank. It might get better soon, or be resolved in interesting way. That might be a comfort. It's up to the viewer to decide what they can put up with.

Y'all people crack me up with all this "I'm done with this show!" stuff.

You KNOW it's all going to work out in the end.  Just a little while ago everyone was screaming about Leonard and Penny and how the show had sabotaged them and destroyed their relationship, and so on.  But of course, the intention was to make a point for them.  Even the Shenny kiss was apparently simply a way to underscore what would never happen.

It wasn't about either Sheldon or Penny fantasizing about each other or about other relationships.  If Leonard is the one dreaming it, then it has some meaning for him (nightmare?), but not for Sheldon or Penny.

And if Sheldon is still lashing out, you know there's going to be a reconciliation.  You build up the tension and suspense in order to achieve a bigger payoff.

Thank goodness!

I wonder if for Amy the only way to get away from Sheldon is by taking a looooooonnnng overseas work trip where she is uncontactable

Maybe she takes time of of work and visits her family. Maybe that's when we learn a bit more bout Amy's background.

No matter how they try to prove that Shenny is only at the fan's imagination, it'll cause the opposite effect. Reverse psychollogy here: tell someone that something never gonna happen, and then this person will want it more than ever. Sad, but true. :icon_frown:

Came in sort of late to taping night discussion...What was the context of Leonard's Shenny nightmare?  Was this to show he is scared of losing Penny?  Leonard ingested hallucinogenic mushrooms before bed?  The writers have ingested hallucinogenic mushrooms before writing this script?

I'm just trying to understand how this was fitting into the storyline

Good thing I watch HGTV a lot...it doesn't show promos for CBS.  LOL!   I won't want to see it even in a promo...

I don't wanna see the promo, I don't wanna see the beggining of the episode, I don't wanna see the promotional pictures...I don't wanna see nothing that reminds me that this shit happened.

Add me to the list of those who couldn't care less about the endgame if the road there is rather shitty.  I am not going to watch the show for the next 2 years and not enjoy it because I might get some sweet scenes at the very end.

I know the Friends reference is used often, but they pushed and pulled Ross and Rachel so much I really didn't care too much that she got off the freakin plane.  I don't want it to be like that with Shamy, where by the time I get there I just shrug my shoulders and go on my way.

I see TBBT as being written by nerds for nerds. How could Sheldon not have relationship trouble?

Sheldon Cooper: While Mr. Kim, by virtue of his youth and naiveté, has fallen prey to the inexplicable need for human contact, let me step in and assure you that my research will go on uninterrupted, and that social relationships will continue to baffle and repulse me.

Sheldon is no longer repulsed but it appears much still baffles him. Okay, me too.

He understands more but he has more to learn.

And you crack me up with your holier than thou attitude. How about you give your opinion, whatever it is, stop being an apologist for the writers, and let other people have their opinions whatever they are positive or not. And if some people decide to be done with the show, then so be it. It's their right , isn't it?

So, how about you stop mocking people for how they feel? Hmmmm,  how about that? Think you can manage it? Hope so. Cool. Thanks.

I'm not trying to mock anyone.  If you think I'm being "holier than thou" just because I noticed a trend in how people swing up and down over these things, I'm sorry.

But reading through so many posts where people are SURE everything's going down the toilet, in terms of where the relationships are ultimately headed, and then seeing how it all works out is funny to me.  It seems like some people can't see the big picture and only want roses and fairies in the telling of these stories.

To me it's like reading a good book with ups and downs, twists and surprises.  If this chapter is a little bit of a nail-biter, we have the advantage of knowing that both these relationships are endgame.  I was surprised that someone seemed to be surprised that Lenny is endgame.  How could anyone question that?

Shamy is also endgame, even if they have to weather the occasional storm to get there.  How is this part if the story boring or horrible (as some have said)?  I think it's incredibly interesting and fun to see how Sheldon and Amy ride it out, even if they're angry, even if it takes more than one episode.

Weren't people upset that last season resolved the train trip issue in essentially one episode?  So now they're taking their time to have Sheldon and Amy hash this out, but now everyone wants them to just say, "I'm sorry!" and then start making out.

If that happened, I would find it to be a rip-off.  Let them fight, let them be hurt, and let them figure it out.  We know they're going to work it out and end up together again, so why not see it through?

Sheldon has had issues navigating this relationship for five years and I enjoyed it.  I am not enjoying this.  I can deal with the break, but I just don't like the direction they are going with this.  A miscommunication shouldn't turn into this much angst.  They may still steer it in a way that I will enjoy, but if it continues this way, I will not.
