After reading the last few pages of the forum I am now absolutely convinced that a lot of forum posters have better ideas than the writers do. There are better jokes and better comedy plots on these threads than we have gotten on the actual show. Some have even thought this out much further ahead. I don't think the actual writing team has thought this deeply about the psychology of the characters or what their scenes mean. I am convinced they are just thinking "This will get some ratings heck yeah!"

For whoever mentioned the bra, it's my understanding that Sheldon was trying to imply that he was involved with OTHER women, not Penny, so he threw a bra in there so he could pretend he had "accidentally" included it.  Of course, Penny's bra would have been the only thing he would have had access to, since he doesn't go around raiding women's underwear.  But Amy saw throught his ruse right away because she recognized the bra as being Penny's, not belonging to some random woman as he was trying to imply.

As for the makeout session, remember that this is Leonard's dream, so he is imagining what it would be like for Penny to have make out with someone else, and in this case (for shock/humor's sake) he imagines it to be Sheldon.  And the gross out factor is supposed to be part of it, I imagine, because what would gross Leonard out more than Sheldon making out with Penny?  Maybe Wolowitz?

And I don't think it has anything to do with "getting the audience ready for a sexualized Sheldon"--why would the audience need to be "prepared" for that?  I think that what we've seen so far--the "kissy face" (which I thought was a pretty bold statement from Sheldon to begin with), the ILY, and all that--is plenty of preparation.  The only ones who might not be prepared to view him in a sexual light would be those still stuck in the "robot Sheldon" idea from S1-3, and I don't think that seeing Sheldon and Penny making out in a dream sequence would do anything to convince them that Sheldon can be physical/sexual/intimate.  Everybody else is pretty much ready (or resigned to the fact.)

I'm curious about the "stages of grief" thing--was this something actually mentioned or implied in the episode, or is this simply someone's supposition?  I'm not saying that the writers aren't using that as their guide, but I don't think that it's necessarily a strict guide to go by, especially in trying to figure out how many episodes it will take.

Sheldon's going a little haywire over this and it may take him a while to stop--either through someone hitting him up side the head or from Amy telling him to cool it or something.  Whatever the case, I don't think any of this is "destroying the ship" or whatever.  I'm very interested in seeing how all of this sturm und drang affects the group dynamic--will it end up as a little boys vs girls at some point, or will L/P tell Sheldon to cool it, or what?

At any rate, I don't think any irreversible damage is being done.  They will sort it out in the end, IMO, because I don't think TPTB have in mind plans to "ruin" anything.

Just because I have an opinion on whether or not people have cause to pull their hair out and weep doesn't mean I'm telling anyone they're "watching the show wrong"--dang, Tensor, that's boring.  Why don't you change the record already? (and young folks, back in the olden days, you had to turn the record over to get more songs)

I'm just saying that TPTB have wider intentions than what we sometimes myopically focus on.  But if that's how you choose to watch the show--one syllable at a time--then my opinion won't matter to you.  I'm just saying what I see.

see and I was so happy about two minutes ago thinking between some recent tweets and the general tone of the boards this morning that harmony was upon us...

 

When I say sexualize Sheldon, I mean that it does prepare and make it more believable for viewers to see him finally get down & dirty.  And general public has always been eased into these things with this character to keep him as just that, "in character".  If he just suddenly jumped into the sack it might be a stretch seeing as we had a sutto-make-out on a couch...

 

Same with the fanfic scene in the tag.  Him shirtless with more of a smoldering look I don't think was 100% just for laughs (which of course was #1) but again, dropping little hints that Sheldon can be sexy.

 

While the writers do say they don't plan ahead I do think there are certain story arcs (imagine them on a white board) they keep in mind.  One being obviously Shamy sex, etc.

two.  I think they'll go with take two.  Take one is when he hikes her up, take two had just her thigh around him.  But overall general tone the same.  Then they did the promo photos so I do expect this in some format in the tag and yes, based off the premiere where you think both couples are doomed to open to this...go CBS monkeys & writers. You'll get your viewers hands down when this promo airs.

 

and then wait till Australia does their promos...

The tag is Leonard & Penny are on the couch in 4A and Sheldon gives them a wedding gift because he "watches tv and knows he should".  Its tickets & hotel to San Fran to go see the cable cars, go to Alcatraz.  Lenny looks less than happy as its kinda not their speed and Sheldon says "we'll have so much fun" implying he is coming too.

Amy is knocking at the door, Sheldon answers and she is fuming.  She says because he was comparing her gentials to some country (I am drawing a blank here).  He says "oh you got that did you".  It was a direct sexual innuendo, he meant it, she got it...anyway, she firmly says "take the video down NOW" and storms off, he closes the door and says "but she watched it" all excited.  You hear from the other side of the door Amy say "only because you sent me the link title "watch this, it will make you mad".  He then says "she still wants me" and skips off down the apartment towards the bedrooms.

 

Now...again its not confirmed but a few of us though based off timing & Lenny's obvious reaction to the gift, and almost how sad at first Sheldon looked when they opened it, that it was intended as a gift for Amy.  Maybe that was where he was going to take her and propose (especially since this is a 48 hour window we are talking about here).  This isn't the writers BUT I wasn't the only one who thought this.  He did kinda look sad when they opened it.  And those activities have Shamy written all over it.

 

But anyway.  That's the tag.

Really?  Just about anyone can play Monday morning quarterback, when they don't have to serve anyone.  The writers on the show have to satisfy many people besides just fans, they satisfy censors, the bosses up above, the actors, where they go with the charactors, write to an actor/characters strength, staying within budget, etc.  ALOT more goes into writing these shows then simply writing jokes on a page.

Thank you, Kerry! Very intriguing about the San Fran tickets. Idk if that's where they're going - to reveal he intended them to be for him and Amy - but it is odd. Him giving them tickets has to have some purpose, and Lenny's reaction that they're not really their thing adds to the theory.

hmm, mid-episode I guess.  First its the icky make-out nightmare, then its Sheldon skyping Amy annoying her but she says again "this is hard for me too", then I want to say it was the comic book scene with Leonard/Raj/Howard where we find out Howard knew about Mandy (but Sheldon & Raj didn't).  Raj was hysterical because he acted like the jaded wife with the fact that Howard kept this info from him.  Then came the apartment scene with the box of stuff.  It was actually very sweep even with the bra stuff.  You really felt for him through that because even as he is trying to give this illusion that he is getting around he so obviously isn't and she isn't buying any of it.  It was a funny/cute scene they shot twice, with the 2nd being shorter and sweeter.

i will tell you why i hate the scene ... because even with the shenny kiss , i really hate that leonard don't trust in penny , the dream is a fact, the same leonard said the sheldon and penny have a relationship (brother-sister) and even that he is not trusting in sheldon ...
then the shenny kiss , for me a shamy shipper is really hard to assimilate ... i would really prefer that sheldon in the past have kissed amy in that way.
finally i dont like the simple idea of jim kissing kaley, i always saw then like sheldon and penny.with that relationship, and now the writers  have taken it away.

Dreams don't always have internal logic, just because he dreams that doesn't automatically mean Leonard doesn't trust her.

Really?  Just about anyone can play Monday morning quarterback, when they don't have to serve anyone.  The writers on the show have to satisfy many people besides just fans, they satisfy censors, the bosses up above, the actors, where they go with the charactors, write to an actor/characters strength, etc.  ALOT more goes into writing these shows then simply writing jokes on a page.

 

I agree with you. I also have to add that the same thing that happens here on this forum also happens on another forum I'm on. You have to realize that  we here on this forum are just a small fraction of the viewers of TBBT and that some of the opinions on here really don't mean much when comes to the show and how it's written. I've seen this line posted a lot on one of my other forums. Get over yourself. I know this post won't make me popular with some, but it's true.

 I had no problem with this post.  You don't specify a member or don't quote them, then tell them what was wrong with the way they looked at it.  I wouldn't have said a thing here as you stated your opinion without being condescending or implying there was something wrong with the way anyone reacted.

I don't think Penny was so made about the kiss. I think she was more perturbed by the timing of Leonard telling her about it. In the car scene she infers that she thinks that Leonard it trying to sabotage the wedding.

Leonard proposes to her, they were all good and then in that episode she and Leonard went on that double date with Shamy, she was being sort of bitchy towards Leonard and was suddenly unsure of their relationship again. WHAT??

Why is penny saying yes to Leonard's proposal supposed to make any lingering doubts she might have, magically disappear?

You really think a couple's insecurites go away JUST BECAUSE they've been together for a long time?   I've had my parents fight countless times during my childhood, some of it was due to one insecurity or another.  Still having insecurities after knowing each other for a long time is HIGHLY believable, ask any marriage counselor.
