Information For Attending A Big Bang Theory Taping

Recommended Posts

I actually don't think this is an action to prevent spoilers at all. I simply think this is an action by either AU and certain writers/producers to answer the request of many who contact them asking why they can never get tickets. They want it to be available to everyone which in theory is nice BUT if those complaining aren't even trying then whose fault is that. And AU are the ones that know about the name switching. It probably has been increasing a lot in the last year so they are putting the brakes on it. The spoilers dont always come from fans. Half come from publications, articles and such. The latest big spoiler was brought to us by tvline, not a fan. But you are so correct this change actually hurts people from helping others live a dream which was occuring every week. And those people have graciously given up their guaranteed and taken standby to help a taping virgin. I only hope this actually may make tickets easier but who knows. Like end of season tickets if they do hold firm on the two episodes per season rule because its not just members of our community that go multiple times a season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I dunno much about getting tickets and I don't have any hope of ever going to a taping but I'm thinking that tptb are just perhaps trying to have a more diverse audience. If the same people go every time then they're familiar with everything and know when to expect a joke. If they had different people then it'll be a refreshing experience to them. Sorry I am not expressing myself very well but just a thought...

I get wanting to give people the opportunity to go, but, really, like I said before, it's not like the people that go often are very numerous.  I could understand if it were ten, twenty people, but it's just a couple of people. Hardly enough to say it's preventing the audience from being more diverse. I also kind of get the feeling that Bill doesn't really understand how ticket bookings work, because he seems to be under the impression that those who go multiple times are greedy fans taking other people's seats when it's obviously not the case. They stand in line for a whole day just in case someone doesn't show up.  I understand putting a cap on the number of guaranteed tickets per season per person (which, as far as I'm aware, already exist?), but who are these fans harming if they're just waiting to see if they can get an otherwise empty seat? Their bank account maybe! LOL! That's why I don't understand why he's so hung up over a couple of people attending multiple tapings.

If it has to do with spoilers, it's also a lost cause, since every time we didn't have someone attending from the forum we always managed to find someone else to provide us with at the very least the plot of the episode if not an entire report. You can't realistically have a live audience and avoid spoilers getting out, unless you're making everyone sign a non-disclosure agreement. And even if you did, the internet is anonymous. There's no way you could ever trace the person who spills the beans, if they don't want to be caught.

I know I can come out as  overly skeptical, I'm sometimes I admit, but I just can't wrap my head around that idea, it feels so shortsighted. Like koops said number of people going multiple times is negligible. Also this claim that amount of people wanting to go the taping did increased so much, I don't understand. Last year ratings decreased. Shouldn't there be at least some correlation between amount of viewers and amount of people on tapings? Isn't it a little illogical that while amount of people watching the show shrunk of few millions, number of people eager to see the show taped is suddenly so much higher? Or did Bill just build his assumption on a few people complains? After last year where Bill had to multiple time say to sometimes rude fans they shouldn't listen to spoilers (not saying those were folks from here), just the more understandable solution that comes to my mind is, that maybe, with new season Bill came to thought it's good time to prevent the "loudest fans," , maybe thinking that it could be those, who are going so often who are "carriers" of that info frequently. Again, as shortsighted as that idea might be. But it's just a thought of mine and I too think it would hardly solve anything. spoilers will always find it's way out. Maybe Bill has really just genuine concern for everyone to have their turn, but in that case, I think Bill is looking for problem in wrong place. At least from what I see here, if someone wants tickets, if he/she shows up early enough, they get them. At least one, and at least Standby.Even I was booking tickets for last year finale - I guess one of most wanted eps, and yes they were sold out fast but if you're checking the site right away, it's not so impossible as some people claim. If one is able to go whenever he wants and other is not able to get in even once, there has to be some other problem going on. Maybe better awareness of how to get ticket from Bill would be needed. Maybe those frequent attenders could "expiate" by doing Bills hot line for the matter? :icon_biggrin:

As was rightly said, if  Bill wants to put a limit on guaranteed it's okey, that makes sense, but really telling people, who are just waiting to fill gap to not go at all, no, sorry, I don't see that as useful at all.

I'm pretty sure they just added that rule, because I have an email from AU on Aug 11th about changing the name on some tickets and they said they changed them no problem and just to have the guest bring their ID. I think they only just added the rule in the past couple of days because of BIll's disappointing stance and tweets on the whole thing. It really makes very little sense. There may be 5-10 people out of thousands who go to more than one taping a year.  I just don't get why he feels he needs to take a stand against that. It's annoying for sure.

Bill is high key shutting us down!

Does anyone have a ticket they'd be willing to test transfer to see if AU actually plan on enforcing this rule?

The other thing that occurred to me is that this new rule actually has the opposite effect, because it means that now if someone isn't able to go, they won't be able to give their ticket away to someone else. So, technically, that means less free seats because people book, don't go, and can't transfer.

Sad to say Koops, but I think only thing there's behind this is poor attempt to prevent spoilers. People who goes to so many tapings are BIG fans, big fans tend to talk about show much, being part of many fandoms and sharing their excitation, with spoilers out there. Simple as that. I guess Prady think without those fans, amount of spoilers getting on the public will lesser. That notion that those fans are taking seat of someone is silly IMO. Everybody has the same chance to get tickets. If the who goes first time would want, they would do just the same thing frequent visitors did, and get there like anybody else. There's no way anybody would take someones place. And Standby's? Well, it's like you said. I'm not so happy with Bill's attitude in this situation either, and I feel bad for those who now feel unwelcome to see their favorite show, the more when those are people who are helping others all the time, not just to get tickets, but giving advices on every little thing that goes with the process. I hope they will not take his tweet too seriously. It's their favorite show, and until there will be strict rule "carved in the stone" I would just go and enjoy. I would say there's just two years, if you have opportunity, don't waste it just because one silly tweet.

I actually agree with you, my first thought about Bill's rant is that he thinks these "repeat offenders" are the ones giving out all the spoilers, and he kind of has a point. I'm not sure how related his tirade is to the AU site change. It is confusing because as of Tuesday, we had people transferring tickets. It's possible they just added it, or that the communication between AU site developer and Steve isn't that strong that Steve even knows about the policy change they made weeks ago.

The thing about tickets is this; let's say they enforce the non-transfer rule for BBT. Their hope for people who can't attend is that they email to "cancel" their ticket and if they have enough "cancelations," they can randomly put up a new batch of guaranteed tickets (which they have done in the past; e.g. Intimacy Acceleration). I don't agree with this at all because 1) most people don't have the forethought or courtesy to cancel in advance (or may not know until the day of that they can't make it) and 2) wouldn't it be better to give some guaranteed to some of your standby ticketholders? Send out an email that first x number of people to reply get bumped up to the priority list? Not that I'm one to tell them how to do their jobs, but this no-transfer thing sounds ridiculous to me, for all the reasons @koops said. We transfer tickets to make sure that people are sitting in those guaranteed seats, and if someone plans to go and then can't get a flight or the time off from work, we want to be able to help someone who wasn't able to get them. Not sure I'm seeing the problem here.

I think that part of the problem of people not being able to get tickets is that they just don't know how.  I've seen lots of posts on IG where people ask how someone got tickets to the show, or that they're never able to get them.

IMO, if Joe Smith can't get a ticket, it's not necessarily because of anyone going more than once.  To score even a standby ticket, you have to know when the tickets are released and you have to be johnny-on-the-spot.

It's just like the episode where the guys are trying to get ComicCon tickets.  The tickets are released and there's a bunch of people all trying to get a ticket all at the same time.  So, did Joe Smith not get a ticket because he wasn't awake at that hour or because he didn't know the process or what?  And if the tickets sold out, how does anyone know whether the people getting tickets were newbies or veterans?

No one can say if ticket-holder number 173 has ever gone before, and people who get standby tickets have no way of knowing how many VIPs will be there--so should the cast and crew stop inviting their friends and family so that Joe Smith can get a ticket?

At my taping there were several empty seats, at least one whole row of VIPs and lots of standby ticket holders.  As a matter of fact, I spoke briefly with 2 girls at the WB Tour place who apparently had standby tickets but had some kind of kerfuffle and assumed they'd never get in, so they didn't even try.  So, there's no accounting for how many people who don't get in had some kind of similar story, or assumed the tickets would sell out and didn't try or whatever.

IMO, Bill isn't really helping anyone.  Unless he stands on the street corner and passes out tickets, he's not going to help anyone get in who doesn't already know how or have someone to help them.

Oh, and a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY! to Michey and a big THANK YOU! for helping me to attend last season.

Just catching up with these current changes in ticketing policy.  I agree it is very shortsighted.  Everyone has the same chance for getting a guaranteed ticket and there are not that many willing to wait in the standby line all day multiple times.  If you decide to go a week or two before of course you are going to miss out the same if you look for tickets 2 hours after they go online.  The fact that they have had empty seats at some shows means there is not really a problem but people that don't know he process.

I guess it means me getting up at 3.30am next year when I plan to go :icon_neutral:

Doesn't it mean more standbys get in? There were a lot with me when I went.

But wasn't that limit to guaranteed / priority tickets or is this enforced on standby as well?

Hi Guys,

I know I do not talk a lot in here, mainly just read (and that A LOT)

My thoughts: In the last two years a lot of people where able to get a certain expertise in scoring tickets. That was not the way 2 or 3 years ago. Maybe AU and the producers are afraid that scored tickets might be sold secretly. We all know this not the case, but probably THEY can not be sure. I can imagine that people who plan a trip to LA or desperatly want to attend a taping are willing to pay a not so small amount for a Guaranteed or even Stand By ticket. By changing the rules about the transferability of the tickets AU can prevent this.

It is the same with Football tickets of Bayern Munich. They are not transferable to avoid black market deals.

This new rule is very disapointing imo and I think it bumms a lot of people out. Especially those who are really into getting tickets and spreading the love for those who where not so lucky.

:-(

Did anyone get tickets this morning for the Sept 15h taping?

Yes indeed, I helped a fellow forum member to score tickets for this member's friends.

Didn't feel like doing it, still bummed, 11 tickets went to waste in the progress but if AU and Bill Prady are ok with that, I am, too!

They won't be wasted. They will always fill the audience with standby. No matter what happens.
