914 'The Meemaw Materialization' (February 4)

I know all Texans don't walk around with cowboy hats and spurs that jingle jangle but I did expect Meemaw to display a little bit of Texas.  She sounded more like a woman from Iowa than Texas.  I wish she at least had a touch of a Texas twang.  I know we all had our own versions of who MeeMaw should be but I was expecting Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies (a reference that some of you will be too young to know - I wonder if MeeMaw knows how to make possum stew?)

I don t understand the problem with this episode!meemaw was mean with amy apparently but she is a grandmother and she want That her grandson will be happy!about the ring I read the TR and what we see in the screen is the same!

I watched this a 2nd time and got even madder.  The producers & writers watch a full run-thru of the episode EVERY DAY from the script reading thru the taping, so this disjoined, unpleasant mess was what they wanted.  I just looked at the ratings, and apparently a lot of casual viewers turned in to see Mee Maw-so they got to disappoint about 15.17 million viewers!

and the vibe was is telling her they had a vibe.

all she wanted was to pick his brain.

did meemaw not look to happy?, when amy said 

she could have the ring. lets hope amy lets sheldon

Looks like I'm in the vast minority here. I laughed more during this episode than I have for a while. Mrs Itwas commented it was the funniest for a long time but then she doesn't get the angst I describe on this forum - she is what we describe here as the casual viewer without the shipping baggage.

I think I just watched it without the baggage last night and laughed at what I thought were funny lines without worrying about Raj being a dick or douche, Lenny being Sheldons support act, Meemaw not being fair to poor Amy, Sheldon needing Mama Penny to show a backbone, Amy not being perfect in her description of the relationship ........

I feel sometimes the humor of this show is sometimes killed off by hardcore analysis and preconceived expectation. That's OK of course - I'm not judging - but it's just funny how my family's viewing experience of this episode is so far removed from nearly every comment I've read here. When I rewatch it, I probably won't enjoy it as much because I'll have all the negatives of this thread ringing in my ear clouding my view of a joke I laughed at last night. And I'm not a show apologist - I've commented on several flat episodes the last 2 years. But this one to me wasn't one of them. Story might have had flaws but we laughed a lot. Oh well, difference make the world interesting to live in.

And I thought I was the only one who laughed about the episode and enjoyed it a lot. Thanks that I`m not alone with that feeling.

I was so happy when Sheldon´s meemaw greeted him at the airport by saying "Moonpie!" I always wanted so see that she sais that to him in person and now she did and I`m so happy! It was really cute!

And I loved the opening scene *LOL*

Howard and Raj were fun too at the comic book store.

Funny this is the first ep all season I have not loled that much. Other then Penny and Rajs line in the end. Different strokes and all. But thought it was a filler episode.

5.   I'm tired of seeing Lenny in the background.  I want to see more positive and funny Lenny, rather than Sheldon-support Lenny.

6.   I did enjoy seeing Sheldon's genuine disappointment about the ring being revealed to Amy and the virginity line at the end, mainly his staring into Amy's eyes recognizing she was hinting at wanting the engagement ring.

7.  I was happy to see Meemaw smiling at the end, which seemed she was at ease with Amy and Sheldon being together.

8.  I'm glad to hear Mary's is in support of Sheldon proposing to Amy and looking forward to welcoming Amy as a daughter-in-law.

Reading through here, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who didn't love this episode. I felt like a "bad fan" for not really liking it. I laughed maybe a few times at best, and it's the first ep in a looooong time that I haven't watched for a second time after it aired.

Agree with pretty much every one of these points.

Imo the biggest decline in this show. Is the continuied destruction of ThE heart of the series. And the central couple.Leonard and Penny. So while background they are cute. Its like the show has become Rules of Engagement. A show about Three Couple's and a Douche . GUess who. I miss the group just hanging out watching tv. That's all I want at this point. But show ain't four eggheads and their hottie neighbour anymore. Its more a show about young student professional's. I wish show would go full measure with the change.

Funny ep but not my favourite of the season so far.

Penny was the funniest part of this episode for me, Loved the return of Gossip_Penny wanting to stay and watch the dwama but turning tail as soon as she could potentially be dragged into it! And “I PARK FINE!”

 

She’s loving it lol!

 

Giddy waiting for his Meemaw at the airport Sheldon was cute. “You got even smaller, I love it!”   Then she corrects Sheldon’s behaviour like she’s gonna be a sweet old lady type character  

Claire wasn’t as I thought she was gonna be at all, she seemed really funny and sweet, I could totally root for her and a Raj - You know if Raj wasn’t a huge douche who was now dead to me now!

 

I’m not a big fan of the 'family systems theory’ (whereby people tend to regress to the established roles they had within the family unit as children) I HATE it when my other half suddenly becomes a shy retiring dafty incapable of standing up to anyone in the family! and I’m not a fan of seeing it in effect with Sheldon in this episode. 

Yes standing up to Gorgon_Meema^TM (with some prompting) ticks off another item on ‘Sheldon L Cooper’s route to actual adulthood’ check list and there were some funny moments out of it but I am still not a fan. 

I don’t care how much you dislike your potential granddaughter in law if you love your Grandson you do not ruin his proposal plans. That was a dick move Grandma!

Random assorted thoughts I had during this episode:

• WTF is going on with the mailboxes?
• Simon Helberg is a comedy genius who should be given more screen time on this show/in movies/projected onto the side of a mountain, whatever.
• Sassy 'stands up for herself to everyone regardless’ Amy is my sexuality now.
• Did I mention that I can’t stand Raj now?!
• Love the new Wolowitz kitchen, really stylish!
• “Not you, I own your ass!”  
• Jim looked paler than usual, hope he wasn’t sick  
• The Baby in Claire’s arms at the end is the worst fake-baby doll I have seen in my life!

Meemaw isn't from Texas though so I did not expect a Texas accent.

The episode hadn't aired when I made that comment and I hadn't seen anything about it in the previews.  I was kind of disappointed in that for some reason.

I liked the episode and I liked Meemaw. I can't see your problems with her, to me she acted normal and honestly.

 

Of course she's worried for her little moonpie whom she treats like a defenseless child - but he's totally OK with the last part, isn't he?

So no, Meemaw wasn't mean to Amy for free, she clearly said at the very beginning that she came to size her up and that's exactly what she did during the whole episode.

 

If there was something I didn't like it rather was Amy almost begging for the engagement ring at the end.

No I disagree she was unfair and mean. And didn't let Amy show her side of the break up. Its like she alreAdy made her mind up before she meet her. Didn't like her at all. And please audience are gonna feel sorry for Sheldon lol. Yeah right.

But the two aren't mutually exclusive. She described Her Husband as stubborn. What Sheldon was is beyond stubborn. He was childish and lacked the capacity to make appropriate choices with Amy. Shamy ain't married either. So im sorry I dont buy that. Why does she get to use her husband hard to deal with as some kinda justification. Yet she wouldn't give Amy.the benefit of the doubt. Sorry just thought it was unfair. She wasent on the show since s4 she doesn't know specifically what Sheldon was like.

Since we are arguing about words, I should probably watch it again, but I'm pretty sure she didn't describe her husband as only stubborn, but also egotist ( and I wonder if there's not an adverb like " extremely egotist " ). The grandfather's description makes me think that Sheldon inherited his particular character from him.

As for the marriage thing, I don't see your point. Whether Shamy are married or not doesn't make the comparison invalid. They're both long term couples.
